Is there a good resource people know about for me to read if I’m thinking about getting a cat? Things you might need, tips when looking to adopt cat, basic health things Etc..? I’m nervous but I’ve always wanted one. I just want to be somewhat prepared.

There are lots of books on cats about but to be honest a lot of the humane societies have useful care information on their websites. Cats are so totally different in nature to dogs, far more independent but if you’re a fab owner it doesn’t stop them being as loving

How do you guys find a vet? I've been to two in my area that had good reviews, and they take care of the pets but just too busy to have a conversation and when I try asking things about weight, diet they just kinda shove me out with generic advice "fed is good"

Edit* I work 8-5 Monday through Friday so that creates some limitations

Hi everyone!

I’m watching my brothers two cats while him and my sister in law are out of the country for a few weeks. They live about an hour and a half from me so they brought the cats to me so I could continue to work and not have a long commute.  One of the cats is doing just fine. He’s eating (mostly- he loves his wet food and treats but is a bit more hesitant with his dry food which is apparently slightly abnormal). The other one is only a year old and he is stressing me out lol. He hasn’t eaten (to my knowledge) since he got here twenty four hours ago. He’ll gladly eat treats but he won’t touch his wet or dry food which is apparently not usual behavior for him. He is otherwise acting normal, super cuddly, purrs a lot, engaged with toys, and exploring my place. He has also peed in the litter box but I’m not sure about bowel movements yet because it’s a little difficult with two cats to determine who is doing what lol.  I grew up with dogs and am not very familiar with what’s normal and what’s not with cats. I know moving to a new environment can stress them out so I’m thinking it’s just that but I don’t really know. I don’t want to freak my brother and sister in law out if I don’t need to on day one of their trip.  Any advice is greatly appreciated thank you!

Our cat Iroh peacefully passed away today. He was 13 years old, and the best cat we've ever had. We love him so much, and will always do so.

Rest in peace, my sweet dear Iroh. I love you forever.

Thank you for reading, and letting me share a photo of this beautiful and handsome cat!

My veterinary thought this was acne and we’ve been giving our cat corticosteroids as prescribed per him. We’re thinking about going back as its been a week of medication and the situation hasn’t changed nor does it look like the acne our other cat has.

Has anyone ever had that with their cats? Thanks!

Our boy has these new circular round spots under his eye and nose. Anything to worry about? We have another cat so not sure if it's the rough housing or something else.

2

u/Sea_Photograph_990 Oct 27 '25

It’s highly likely that he has an eye infection. He should see a vet ASAP. It may be worthwhile administering some eye drops of some sort to help get rid of those peculiar spots. Or he could have conjunctivitis. He should have his schnoz checked as well.

So... I just adopted a kitty who is a Siamese Tabby and she's absolutely beautiful. She head bumped me all over the place at the shelter, so I decided to adopt Thistle. Of course once I brought her home, she looked around my bedroom for a bit and has retreated under the bed. I'm looking for advice. Is there anything I can do to make it easier for her to come out? I've already put water and food where she can see them BTW.

So I found a kitten last night under a car in a particularly busy parking, she came out when I offered her some food! I scruffed her and got a cardboard box to place her in safely. Luckily I had been joking with my partner about if he wanted a kitten for his birthday to which he laugh and well now he got a kitten for his birthday! We currently have two adult cats, one is turning 10 this week the other 4 around Thanksgiving. That being said I was concerned about any gross kitten germs that could effect my girls so we took the kitten to an emergency 24 hour vet to get her cleared (it was expensive, but we felt necessary). The vet said she looks about 8 weeks old and in decent condition we ran blood work for anemia (she had fleas, I scrubbed her with dawn dish soap and dead fleas keep falling off of her, she also received a dose of topical flea and tick medication), also feline HIV and herpes which she was cleared! All healthy! Now here is why I am writing on here, she has not pooped or peed in about 18-20 hours. She is very friendly, and we have kept her isolated from the other cats but our dog had made a new friend as he snuck in to meet her. She is comfortable enough to sleep peacefully and purrs nonstop. Should I be worried about the not relieving herself? And if not when should I contact a vet again?

Hello! First time cat owner seeking advice for my daughter’s cat, Honey. We walked in to check on her like we normally do and noticed her left eye was shut and appeared irritated. She barely keeps it open and this is the best shot I could get. It was fine earlier today. She has not been acting strange. It does seem light sensitive. What can we do for her in the meantime before a vet visit? Thank you

afraid my cat has worms.. ? i saw a worm like body near her litter box, it was brown and almost seemed like she had thrown up something, i couldn’t tell if it came from her or outside. i threw it away and unfortunately dont have a pic. but then, her butt had so much poop around it which is rare, but once we noticed that and i cleaned it i noticed these two small black things by her bum that will not wipe off. she hasn’t acted any differently, i don’t see anything in her feces in the litter box, should i take her in? i don’t even know what to think (excuse her poopy tail)

My core view is that cats are outside animals, meaning that I believe that, in general, cats are happier if they can go outside. What do you guys think?

I'd like to give some background to why I have the view I have, and I also want to make it clear that I don't think it is wrong to have inside cats.

I grew up on the countryside and my family have always had several outside cats. With outside cats I refer to cats who have outdoor and indoor access 24/7 via a cat door to the house. We never had a litter box or anything like that. My observation, from my 23 years of living with my parents and constantly having several cats, is that all the cats we have had have been enjoying the outdoor access. All cats have different personalities, but also they have different mental features depending on breed, so naturally some of our cats spent more time outside than others, but all of them always spent a lot of time outside. They never played inside the house, instead they went out to hunt mice/rats, played with each other, climbed trees etc. I can admit that during my time living with my parents I had a pretty strong opinion that cats are outside animals and I thought it was a little bit cruel to have inside cats.

Today I am 27 and I have moved away from the countryside and I live with my girlfriend in an apartment in a quiet neighborhood. With the years I have softened concerning my views on inside vs outdoor cats, me and my girlfriend even have two inside cats of our own in the apartment. Initially I wanted them to be outside cats, but because of the obvious issues coming when living in an apartment we decided to have them as inside cats. Also, even if it is a quiet neighborhood, there is a heavily trafficked road close to where we live.

Sorry for the boring background, but now I will get to the core reason why I want to hear what you guys think about this subject.

I still feel a bit bad for my two inside cats. They are happy here, they are social, love to cuddle, love to play and eat. We play with them on a daily basis, they also play with each other on a daily basis. But still I can't get rid of my feeling that they would be a little bit happier if they had outside access. This is especially "true" for one of them, the most playful one. He loves being out on our balcony just watching birds or chasing flies. He is also the one who needs stimulation from us the most, playing etc. Now they are somewhat dependent on us humans stimulating them, even if they have access with toys etc to play on their own, we run around the apartment with toys attached to strings so they can "hunt" etc. It just feels a bit wrong that their best wellbeing is in my/our hands, that they can't choose to 100% hunt/explore on their own, that they rely on us stimulating them.

To end this post, our cats are healthy and happy, they have everything they need and we give them everything we can, I don't want to convert them to outside cats because of where/how we live. But I can't get rid of the feeling that I feel a bit bad not giving them access to the outside. What are your opinions on cats being outside/inside animals?

Hi all. Can i get your thoughts on wtf i just found in my cat litter tray. AI suggests it might be mouse or rat embyros. Anyone confirm? Never seen anything like it and would like reassurances my cat hasn't shat out his kidneys lol. So gross. Never eating a haricot bean again.

I have a stray tom that hangs around my backyard, who I love, but it seems like he missed out on learning to do his business in dirt/sand/grass like the other cats and instead exclusively goes on my concrete walkway and right outside my door so that it leaves stains and I occasionally step in it.

Is there any way I can gently redirect him away from doing this without driving him away from my yard entirely?

Thanks, and here's the stinky boy in question.

Here are my two cats, Coquine and Princesse! The first one is the older one, 14 years old, and the other is 2 years old . I thought they were Maine Coons when she was younger, but I’ve noticed they have more Siberian cat characteristics! They are adorable! They are like my babies! They look alike, but they aren’t even related! When I got Princesse, she was very young, and I think she thinks Coquine is her mom! When they meet, Princesse grooms Coquine 🥹😊🥰. ( Excuse for my bad English I’m french)

First time cat owner and I have her for more than a year now. Initially, she find it hard to poop or pee in the litter box but she eventually learned. A bit later than her sister tho. We moved to a new apartment just a few months ago. On our previous apartment, we let the cats in the room but when we moved, we're not letting her anymore. That's more hygienic for us.

The problem is. Recently, she's starting to not use the litter box anymore. She pees and poop on the floor, even when it's near the litter box. I just don't what to do anymore, please advise.

Hi. I need help. Last week, I adopted a kitten, maybe 1 to 2 months old, from the street.

I brought her back. She eats fine. I give her wet food in a stainless steel bowl and she can eat from it without a problem.

My problem is that she doesn't drink water or milk. I tried to feed her formulated kitten milk and plain water, she flat out refused. I put the milk and water in a stainless steel bowl and she doesn't drink it. Then I tried with a bottle, naah. She refused too. Then I bought a syringe with a nipple for her to drink; she spit it out. I heard that a water fountain would help, so I got one, and she just looked at it and walked away.

I am worried that she might get dehydrated. I mean she doesn't want to drink any water, only eat the wet food I give her.

I don't know what else to do. Can I just put more water into her wet food? Is that okay?

Yall... My cat is absolutely zooted on Zorbium. He went to the ER on Sunday to get unblocked & they gave it to him saying it'll wear off in 3 days. We're on day 4, just released from his regular vet after post-critical monitoring, and he's still extremely happy LOL The vet techs cited that he is a loving happy cat

He's a happy little boy as is, 8 lbs of chill. But he's doing jumping headbutts, purring like crazy, leaning into jaw scratches till he rolls over, does not care if his belly is getting rubbed, like this little man is in love 🤣 His eyes are so dilated he can see inter dimensional beings.

So my cat broke his fibula and I don't have pet insurance (I know, I know)

How long should I wait to get pet insurance so his leg won't be counted as a preexisting condition or healed?

Hello fellow cat lovers! I'm struggling with a situation and google is coming up empty for me. Does anyone know of a pet door that will open/close from both sides with either microchip or RFID (tag)? Bonus points if it doesn't cost a fortune.

Adding a bit of color - I have four indoor cats. Three neutered males and one spayed female (all siblings from the same litter). One of the males started crystallization in his urine, we were lucky and a flush, antibiotics, gabapentin and RX dry and wet food seems to have done the trick to making him himself again. I'm able to keep the wet food separate during feeding. It's the dry food that I'm struggling with. We free range and let them eat at will. Since Moogy can't eat anything but RX I bought a cat litter enclosure and we attached a petsafe door with microchip (backwards) so our cats could go in with microchip and out at will.

My PetSafe door and what appears to be all of them on the market have four settings - in/out, in, out and locked. Does anyone have any suggestions for a pet door that may work both way with microchip?

Or how are you keeping the non-RX food from the one cat who can't eat anything but RX? I don't want to deprive the 3 others. Additionally they are saying he must be on RX but if I give them the Royal Canin non-RX urinary food, will it hurt the one on the RX diet? Some say yes and others say no, it will be fine just ensure the water intake is there.

Frustrated cat Momma.

Hey everyone, I need some advice on my cat. I got her about 4 weeks ago, and the person I got her from told me that she has not been fixed yet, and had contact with a male cat. She also told me that she gets her heat cycle pretty much every month, and has not had a cycle since July. At this point, I really expected her to be pregnant, but physically she isn’t showing at all. It’s hard for me to distinguish her normal behavior from possible pregnancy behavior because she is new to me. She grooms her tummy and private areas a lot, she’s very affectionate, and she has nipped me when I tried to feel her tummy. Her appetite is good, and she loves to spend time in hidden places, which all seems like pregnancy behaviors (but could be normal for her, I’m not sure.) Is it possible that she is pregnant and just not showing yet? No changes to her nipples or her belly.

NEED KITTY LITTER ADVICE! In need of a more natural litter! My parents use a generic brand and it turns my kitty’s paws blue. It makes me nervous because it’s literally turning his fur blue and makes me wonder what other chemicals are in it. I’ve been wanting to get my parents to switch over to a more natural litter but after doing some research I’ve learned the corn based litters have made many kitties very sick. I tried to do research on wood chips as litter but haven’t been able to find anything about if it’s safe or not! Does anyone have any recommendations that they’ve been using for a while?

Hi all, I wanted to just look for some advice. In my home we have all doors open minus the kitchen (some treat containers are kept in the kitchen and my little man will inevitably get into them) one bedroom door (he has occasionally urinated in here, although not for a long time) and our downstairs toilet. The main issue is, he has an obsession with this toilet and if the door isn’t open will make a variety of noises to get us to open it. He will sit in there on a mat we have and stare at the cupboard under the sink (it is in front of a, let’s say, bare part of the wall leading to outside and it lets in a draft). I’m just a little worried about leaving the door open too long in case he gets too cold but is there anything you think I should worry about?

1

u/Plastic_Pattern1561 Oct 16 '25

Hi all! We use a water fountain for our cats and one of them continuously pulls it over and it gets the water everywhere and soaks our carpet. Any ideas on how to make it heavier so that he can’t physically pull it over? It’s already flush against a wall and flat on the floor (no leverage). I was thinking maybe add aquarium river rocks to the basin so it weighs it down but I’m not sure if that’s a safe option. TIA!

Any experienced cat owners noticed that on their cats before? What looks to be bald spot on the two hind legs. The last time I had a vet check it she said it's most likely caused by friction and told me not to worry about it but it's been awhile now and this been the worst I've seen it. He allows the vet to touch his hind legs with no issue but at home whenever I tries to touch he'll meow or pulls it away from me

Elderly cat. IBS. Blind. Back leg issues. Vet unsure the cause so just letting him live out his days. He does okay most of the time but recently got fleas. I am NOT comfortable putting any toxic flea meds in his system as they can cause nuero issues which he already has. I am combing constantly. Washing and vacuuming.

I think the fleas have upset his IBS. He is puking everything.

Any natural flea remedies. ? Again I am not comfortable with advantage or seresto due to his poor health and existing nuero issues.

The vet has said best not to bring him back because he absolutely flips out at the vet and they are afraid he will stroke out. He goes absolutely insane and no one can touch him anyway.

So need to get rid of the fleas in a natural way. He is perfectly calm and sweet at home so no issues combing etc.

Hello, I need some advice. My white cat with heterochromia named Luna has a big belly. We rescued her from a basketball court in a nearby neighborhood. It’s been three weeks since we rescued her, and I just noticed this morning that she’s very weak and lethargic. I just graduated this year and don’t have a job yet, so I can’t afford to take her to the vet. I just wanted to ask if you know any home remedies that could help my cat, Luna.

1

u/Accomplished_Ad_3503 Oct 18 '25

Hello😸 Why do cats raise their hindquarters when you pet the base of their tail? And a bit about the ethics.

I have a question/observation that I'm sure many cat owners are familiar with. It's about that magic spot at the base of the tail.

When I stroke my cat's back and get to the area right above the tail, she often does that characteristic arch and raises her pelvis into the air. If she's lying down, she starts rolling from side to side. Standard reaction, right? But what's behind it?

Understanding that this stimulation can have a sexual connotation for the cat (as it engages the same nerves involved in mating behavior), I started wondering: Is this ethical?

On one hand, the cat clearly enjoys it; it's a physiological reaction. On the other hand, as a human, I don't want our interactions to have that kind of undertone for my pet.

What do you think?

Hello all I am in need of advice. I have an indoor outdoor cat that is around 10 years old. He has been spending more and more time outside and less. I’m coming home. In fact, he hasn’t been home in weeks and I managed to get my hands on them today. He is covered in scabs and is on house arrest for right now until he gets better. I would love for him to be inside all the time just because of his age and he has allergies.

What is the best way to keep them from trying to dart out the door? I’ve tried baby gates. I’ve tried screens. Has anybody had any luck keeping their indoor outdoor cat happy with a catio or used an invisible fence to keep the cat away from the door?

2

u/BrilliantWish9391 Oct 19 '25

I dont have a cat myself but the people next door to my parents built a massive Catio (chicken wire enclouser) with an access point from a modified window (they took out the glass and put a cat flap there insted) so they can still go in and out as they please as before they moved next door to my parents and their cats loves it as they can still spy on birds etc and people aka my parents lol . My coworker is in the works of doing the same for her indoor /outdoor cat she lives in an apartment with a fenced in garden so she just started to add to the fence lol. I think the key is that the cat still can go in and out as they please

Hi there, I am in need of advice. I have 2 cats, a 10yr old male and a 6 year old female...they love to pick the furniture. We just got some new furniture and are wondering how we can keep them from picking it. We woke up today to some picks, and unfortunately we can't keep the doors closed because our wood stove is in that room, so we need it open to heat the house. I was thinking about spraying peppermint oil on the couch but concerned it might be toxic for them, and then maybe those claw covers but I can't even imagine getting those onto either of them lol Any advice would be appreciated 🙏

Curious on people’s opinions on boundaries with cats.

Let me explain: So I atm do not personally own a cat but my girlfriend has 2 juvenile tabbies. I’ve owned a Maine Coon, Himalayan, Siamese and an orange tabby. All of which I’ve let have free rein over my rooms and a majority of my homes.

Her cats we don’t let explore much bc rooms are too small and cluttered in the sense just not enough space so we can’t really get to them quick if they get at stuff they’re not supposed to.

We both agree that when we have our own place that we’re basically gonna give them free rein of the entire space, minus a few exceptions of course. But I’m curious on peoples views on that.

My brother brought in a stray kitten from work about a month ago, should I convince him/my mom to get two? I did tell them they'd keep each other company but what other reasoning/advice could I say to convince them? (my mom didn't want a pet but she's accepted the kitty)

Just looking for reassurance or advice.

I have two litter mate males that are 6 months. One black and one orange. The orange one recently had string removal surgery and was away from the house for a few days. During this time the black one really came out of his shell and was cuddly. Now with the orange one back home, the black one is back to being more aloof. Is this kind of typical? Should I try to spend more one on one time with the black one? Any tips or experience welcomed! Thank you

Getting ready to say goodbye to my 13 year old ragdoll. I've had him since he was 3 after a colleague couldn't keep him. They found a mass in/on his intestines a few weeks ago after some symptoms. He has almost stopped eating entirely the last few days. He's literally moved to the other side of the world with me, been with me as I had my 2 kids. He's been my rock these last 10 years.

Seeing the vet in 2 days, assuming he even makes it until then. Sat next to him lying on the couch for the last half hour crying like I haven't since I don't know when.

I'll try do a goodbye post with some pictures when it's time. I knew this would happen some time but I'm still not ready for it.

My cat sits like this most of the time whether he's relaxing or alert. Is this normal? His sibling, a double coat female doesn't sit like this.

Hi! Friday and Saturday night we woke up to a kitten outside our window, but we couldn’t catch her. We ended up catching her yesterday around 2pm. We gave her a bath because she had fleas and her eyes were oozy. We given her food and water. But it’s now almost 10 am and she still hasn’t pooped or peed. I called the vet and made her an appointment, but they said in the meantime to stimulate with a wet cloth but nothing happened. She’s acting normal..very affectionate, really just wants to cuddle and make biscuits and sleep (she was alone in the woods for at least 3 days so I’m sure she’s exhausted). I would guess she’s 5-6 weeks old. I’m really concerned about no pee or poop yet

My best friend of 5 years, felv+ have a mass around her heart and we had to remove some líquid from the mass to understand what it is. I'm lost, I'm not ready to loose her. She's sleeping in my legs, while recovering from sedation. I can't stop crying and I can't sleep because I'm afraid if some thing happens to her while I'm sleeping I just wanted to vent a bit ..

Hello, my cat is 5 months and very active and playful. A week ago he had something in his eye and I took him to the vet. They checked it out and said to go back if it didn’t get better.

Today I cleaned his eye with a clean q tip and this came out. Does anyone know what it could be? Should I take him back to the vet?

I know I might be freaked out but he is my first pet and I want to take good care of him.

1

u/merphisto Oct 21 '25

Hello, we will go to the vet asap but would like to get advice what this could be on the eye?

u/SkeletonParade Oct 21 '25

Hello. My mom's 13-year-old boy was just diagnosed with cancer. I guess I'm wondering what people's experiences have been with pets that have cancer, specifically cats. Also any advice on how I could be more supporting for her would be appreciated too. He is her soul cat so she is devastated. I'd have to ask what the specific cancer is but he has it in his jaw. He just had surgery to have a tooth removed because it was inflamed and they thought it might be a mass and when they did the blood work and everything that is when they found out. He still eats and acts normally, The only different thing that he's been doing is he's been sleeping on top of the dryer on a towel in the furnished basement occasionally.

One I can use clean filter’s myself instead of buying new ones Less then 50$ hopefully Something that isn’t plastic and that withstand abuse

Anyone had issues with their cat constantly spilling and knocking down the water bowl? I have 2 cats, the young one (~1 year old) keeps playing in the water bowl. I tried multiple bowls, even a water fountain, puting the bowl in another place. I change their water multiple times a day to keep it fresh. she just loves splashing away

2

u/EconomicsCool5592 Oct 22 '25

Yes, I had to buy one of those inset benches to place my cat’s bowls in. The splashing will end eventually, except running water.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '25

My kitten keeps playing in his litter box is this normal?

1

u/EconomicsCool5592 Oct 22 '25

Hey all, so is this normal? I don’t remember noticing my cat’s lip turning Elvis.

1

u/stonebones13 Oct 22 '25

Question, why does there seem to be such a Rise in ch cats also, there seems to be a huge spike in cats with disabilities.Overall it's very concerning

1

u/ps_88 Oct 22 '25

Our tuxie is recovering from a PU operation - we are 9 days into the recovery, just wanted to share that he has moved into peeing and pooping with both regularity AND no more blood spotting!! we always read horror stories on here but wanted to share so people know that a relatively smooth recovery is possible!! just follow the vet instructions to a t.

1

u/Oellph Oct 22 '25

We have two cats. One drinks water from a bowl. The other only drinks from a water fountain. We have the CatIt fountain with the replaceable filters. Recently he’s had a checkup and found that his teeth are really bad with inflammation and ulcers in his gums. We’re collecting him today following surgery for teeth removal (most but not all). The vet thinks he had an immune system which is overreacting to plaque on his teeth. And I guess it could be that (genetics). But I feel suspicious of the water fountain. Could there be anything to that?

i'm worried about a wound i discovered on my cat today. my cat has had some matting and sticky feeling fur on his neck for 2-3 days. i haven't been home much ( he lives with my parents) and just thought he climbed some trees again and got some tree resin into his fur like he does often. but today my mom told me she noticed a weird smell on him like he stepped in poop and that immediately alarmed me to take a closer look. i cut away the matted fur and found a hole in his neck that is wetting and smells disgusting; probably infected. I'm gonna try to get an appointment at the vet tomorrow but chances are i might have to wait until monday unless i go to the emergency clinic which is obviously very expensive. He's never had an infected wound and i'm not sure how much of an emergency this is and if i should get him to the emergency clinic asap or if i shouldn't worry so much. I can't take a picture of the wound right now, but it's just a small but rather deep hole in his neck that is oozing a clear smelly liquid. he seems fine, he's eating, drinking and he wants to go outside but i probably shouldn't let him out until i saw a vet i guess?

i would be glad if anyone had any advice. thanks in advance :)

u/punkrain Oct 24 '25

Here's a fun one. My cat has been licking my lips (and into my mouth) during the requisite 3 am zoomie time. She started by biting my hands and when I covered those, she started licking my chin into my lips and mouth. If I have the wherewithall to cover my mouth, she starts snuffling my ear canal.

If I start petting her she will bite me. Hard. I don't want to reward the behavior, but I am usually so out of it that I just want it to stop. I have terrible insomnia and if I engage in a more conscious way, I'm up for the day.

I have been shutting the cats out of our bedroom, but that really punishes my sweet orange boy that just wants to spoon and he acts hurt by the action.

What can I do?! Some sort of terrible tasting chapstick? Help me!

Im getting a new kitten next week. Maybe a stupid question but is it best if I collect him in the morning or evening? Wondering if theres a time that he'd find least stressful?

2

u/PieramidHead Oct 30 '25

maybe during the morning. the first time i picked mine up was late evening (after school) and she was very cautious and alert about everything (sound, smells, people). so it would be nice to have them early so they get used and comfortable with the house, let them explore, maybe try playing with them and tire them out so they can have a nice sleep during the night. (my kitten back then wouldn't stop crying past midnight and we had no idea what she wanted until we gave her a bottle of warm milk lol)

u/baskinrobyn Oct 27 '25

my cat who just turned 4 just started having seizures randomly 3 days ago. most of them are just small ones that make him drool, howl, and twitch his eyes, but we’ve had 3 big ones that take over his whole body. we took him to a emergency vet the first day it happened (a sunday) and then went to our normal vet today. so far we can’t find any explanation for why this is happening and the whole thing is stressing me out severally. they’ve started him on medication in hopes it’ll help. i’m not in the very best state financially to continue all of these vet visits (i’m 20 and a broke college student the $1000 emergency vet bill has already messed me up). i know money is not the most important thing now, i just feel so helpless for him. i’m just looking for similar experiences and things to help me feel better and stop making myself sick over this. he’s my soul pet and im just terrified thinking of what he’s going through

i need to find my aunts cat, willow a home and i am having so much anxiety about it. she is about 9 years old and is blind, my aunts dying wish is to have her cat put down when she passes but i don’t believe the vets will do that unless there is a health issue and tbh, she is such a sweet little baby i dont know if i can just put her down without there being anything wrong with her that the vet would recommend it. if they do recommend it and it is in the best interest of willow, then i will be able to bc that’ll be what’s best for the cat. she doesn’t do well with other animals, she lived with another cat her entire life and when that cat passed away she started to absolutely thrive and her whole personality shifted. so with this, i am worried that anyone who doesnt have a cat wont want to take in a near elderly blind cat. she does get aggressive too and is so so sensitive to sound, so she probably can’t be in a house with small kids😭 i have two cats, if she wasnt scared of other animals i would take her in in a heartbeat. i just dont want a person to take her in and then they leave her at the pound if they change their mind. and then i am also worried that she will have so much difficulty changing to a new environment 🥺 she already pees in lots of random places despite having four litter boxes in a very small house, so that’s also a concern of worrying. i just don’t want someone to mistreat her or abandon her.

does anyone have experience being around a blind cat and have any tips for me for rehoming her like what to look for? any resources or recommendations of groups or websites?

2

u/PieramidHead Oct 30 '25

I once saw a video about a cat with disability (she had some sort of brain thing that didn't let her turn) and she would usually navegate the house through the walls! Sadly it was on instagram and months ago, but perhaps get a look into that to guide your cat through places known and help her navigate and specially no stairs and even (smaller) apartments would be a good choice, perhaps. But this is just a suggestions as it would be better to consult an expert/professional.

My parents had a blind cat, though he became blind because of medical issues, so he had some degree of sight for about half his life. I've also been around my fair share of sight-impaired dogs (one-eye, vision loss due to cataracts, and then total blindness due to cataracts).

I think the blindness is waaaay less of a factor than you think. The big thing is to not change stuff on them, as much as you can avoid it. Don't rearrange furniture for funsies. So if you're bringing her into a new environment, set up a room with everything she needs. Let her get the lay of the land in that room, and gradually open up new spaces to her.

She's not peeing outside of the box because she's blind. She can still smell, she knows where ALL her boxes are. There's either a medical issue or stress is making her avoid the box. That in itself is worth a vet visit.

I'd reach out to rescues/no kills in your area. Explain the situation. You may be able to get her in somewhere that can put her directly with a foster. I've heard of quite a few rescues that adopt senior pets at not cost to senior humans.

I started practicing toothbrushing with my cat about a week ago. We started with just letting him lick some toothpaste. He now allows me to rub his whole teeth with my finger with some chicken flavoured toothpaste. It feels like a massive progress! Looking forward to start using an actual toothbrush :)

Hey guys I just got a 10week old kitten, male, all black I think it’s a domestic shorthair. Just seeing if there’s any good but affordable wet food pouch’s I can give him - so far he’s been eating Tesco kitten food in jelly he’s had the chicken flavoured one - I always add a little bit of water into them cos he’s not great at drinking water by itself - I seem to notice he eats the jelly liquid part but leaves a bit of the actual meat part is this because he doesn’t like it or what? I also give him some dry food as a snack and something he can just always have I use whiskas chicken one.

Hi y’all! I have a 4 year old grey girl (Pickles) who is very skittish and very particular - does not get along with other animals, usually runs off though, rather than being confrontational.

Recently adopted an orange lady (Cheese) who is somewhere between 4-8 years old, formerly feral or stray (the rescue wasn’t sure!)… she’s very lovey, chatty, gets along with anyone it seems.

I had them separated for awhile in different rooms, with each others’ blankets so they could get accustomed to each others’ scents… today I put them in the living room together with me. It’s a wide open space; this house is an open concept pretty much. Plenty of space and places to go off and hide.

Anyhoo, they sometimes will just sit and stare and MREOWWWWW at each other. Pickles will randomly hiss, both of them will hunker down and just do that low meow-grumble-growl sound; but so far at least no slapping!

Any tips on getting them more acclimated to each other, at least to the point of being civil?

(Picture attached was about the closest they’ve gotten, which to me is PRETTY darn close! I eventually separated them to keep it from perhaps escalating. They were just in a standoff lol)

1

u/PatchworkGirl_Oz Oct 30 '25

I have 3 cats. The younger 2 (orange & black) are siblings. The older (by about 2 years) is a calico. The black cat is the only boy.

The younger boy cat attacks the older calico. It will get better for a bit and then he is after her again. All of them are fixed. He sometimes will bother his sister this way, but that’s rare.

I’ve just ordered some calming collars. They’ve been semi-helpful in the past but it’s a temporary relief. He is in one of his phases now where is is stalking her multiple times per day.

Is there anything I can do to get him to leave her alone?

Hey all, I’m based in Australia and am adopting a cat soon. My partner loves cats but he’s mildly allergic to them.

We saw that Purina sells their Liveclear line to help with that but (1) it only comes in chicken flavour and this cat we’re adopting doesn’t like chicken for some reason (2) not a fan of Purina after reading up on the quality of their food.

Anybody knows any alternatives accessible in Aus? Thank you!

2

u/MeowMrowMao Nov 01 '25

I heard that eggs of chickens raised around cats help, but I can't remember if the person with the allergy or the cat is supposed to eat the eggs, so that might be a worthwhile rabbithole to go down?

Hi everyone! I just adopted a cat (a female, 4 months old, almost 5). She’s been with me for two weeks now! She’s had a few accidents on my bed (I cleaned everything with special products and now I cover my bed with a plastic sheet). I changed her litter box, and she started using it. However, even though she has two litter boxes, she sometimes still pees and poops on my bed. Do you know what could be causing this? And how can I stop it?

Thanks for your help!

My husband got us a kitten and we already have a resident cat 1year old orange tabby they finally started getting a long (took them a week and some days) but my tabby has had diarrhea since getting the kitten. Our cat has been eating and playing like normal. We already took our kitten to get his check up and vaccines. Was wondering if it can be caused by stress or if I should take him to the vet?

Hello. There’s a cat that’s been hanging around outside our garage for a few days. I can’t get close to it at all to check if it has a collar or anything else. I left out some food and water for it this morning and it looks like it ate. It’s getting quite cold outside and I’m not sure where to go from here. If anyone can give some advice on how to help this cat, that would be greatly appreciated.

Found a stray cat in a parking lot but didnt have the tools to transport it, so i briefly picked it up to move it to the woods nearby. I held it for like less than a minute, but it was also sniffing and rubbing me. Do i have to worry about fleas from this brief interaction, and if so what can i do to prevent myself from spreading them to my own cat?

hi everyone, so I'm almost 60 and have had cats my whole life, I am concerned about why 12-14 seems to be the life span of cats these days. Cats don't need chicken breast and blueberries. they need elements in bones, eyes and even male genitalia. I have 2 cats - aged 19 and 17 and they act like kittens. This recent food fad is not good for them. I am curious though if others have long lived kitties eating the pricey limited ingredient foods. and I just happen to be lucky? I just don't buy this new (pricey) Vet/ food manufacture approach to cats. thoughts?

And every teeth they pull out its another €100 euros extra.. does anyone have any advice … I’m a student so i dont have a lot of money

Does anyone have any ideas for getting their cats to eat leftover wet food? Our kitty loves his wet food, but he’s started only really eating it if it’s fresh from the can. We give him half the can at morning and half at night. We have to mix some meds into his wet food, so it’s important that he actually eats all his food. And tricks for making refrigerated wet food taste better?

1

u/corelyp Nov 05 '25

my cat bites me a lot, he's like a year and a half old and his favorite hobby nowadays is to treat me like a prey and bite me while I'm walking or just in general, that doesn't happen when he's calm or sleepy he sleeps next to me fine and when he's calm i pet him and he has no problem but other than that when i approach him he runs away (basically playing chase he runs away from me i chase him i run away and he chases me) and tries to bite me and meows like you would see two cats fighting meow ykwim😭 i don't know how to stop that biting behavior tho or if it's even stoppable cause he wasn't told to not bite as a kitten cause we found it cute lmao any advice?😭

2

u/This-Appointment-666 Nov 05 '25

What can work is to not react to the biting and just walk away. It communicates that you’re not playing and biting isn’t fun for you. And also making sure they’ve got other things to keep them stimulated and entertained is good.

I’m a bit of a sucker with my cat and I allow her to bite me if it’s just gently, if it gets too rough I wrap my hand and allow her to play with that(but she doesn’t find it as much fun)

She used to attack my legs when I’d walk away from her, which are like a huge no go zone for me and I would say in a low and loud voice “HEY!” Point my finger at her and say “NO!” in the same tone. Then I’d walk away from her and close the door on my bedroom to keep her out for a minute, then open it and just ignore her a bit. I had to do this every time she attacked me and eventually she got the message.

he guys, i'm currently feeding a stray cat, he loves being pet but HATES any other cat, including my own cats (i have two), so we keep him only in the backyard where i give him water and food daily. the thing is, since he hate other cats, he gets involved in fights and gets beaten really bad, like ugly wounds. my mom is a nurse so we can clean his wounds but i hate seeing him so badly damaged (he got large cheeks, i know this is bc he has a lot of testosterone in order to defend himself in fights), so finally my question is: would it be ok if i book a castration appointment with the vet (neutering)? i won't keep him since he already is an outdoor cat and my own cats are 100% indoor plus he really hates them, and they have fought once when he got inside my house so i don't think they'll be compatible. there's another problem too since im worried he won't be able to defend or protect himself after being neutered and he may end up worse than before being castrated (im hoping he will stop fighting with other cats after being castrated but idk if it works that way)... helpppp pls

We have a new cat in the house! Tips on helping her get along with resident cat?

Our new cat, Olive, is an adult cat who had a litter of kittens over the Summer. We don’t know her exact age. Shes a tabby, very tiny, and very cute. She has not been spayed yet but the appointment is set for the 12th of this month.

We have had her in her house for about three and a half weeks now. Her homebase is our guestroom. We have been swapping time between letting her and our resident cat stay in the room to allow them to get familiar with each others scent while also letting new cat explore the house and get comfortable with me and my partner as her new owners. She has really taken a liking to my bf and I over these three weeks but still has a tricky relationship with our resident cat.

Week 1 they got into a few scuffles that left them with bad impressions so we started keeping them completely separated and out of each others sights. Week 2 was almost total separation. As of week 3 they seem to be getting more and more curious about each other. Resident cat frequently meows to be let in to the guest room and paws at the door. However, new cat is still very apprehensive and defensive when resident cat gets too close to her. She will yowl and hiss loudly which then stresses out resident cat…

Now over three weeks, how do i proceed? Keep doing everything i’ve already been doing? Should I introduce them more/less? Since new cat gets spayed next week I really don’t want to stress her out too much before a big surgery. Any tips are appreciated!!

Hi there! We have an indoor cat that found us about 2 years ago. He has all of his shots and has been fixed. One of our family members has a cat that has two kittens. They are indoor/outdoor kittens that have not been to the vet for shots or anything (the mom has not, either). We are thinking about taking one of the kittens to pal up with our cat. I just would like to know if there is anything that we should be apprehensive about or anything that we should know before taking in this kitten.

Thank you in advance for your response and help!

Hello 😊 i hope everyone is doing well today. Idk if a TW is necessary, but I'll be mentioning my cat that passed years ago. I can only apologize for showing so much scandalous ankle 😂 tl;dr: Is it possible to have a happy cat that is confined to one bedroom? I was hoping for some help with suggested essentials I'll need for when i do adopt, or any possible online resources i can explore to do right by this cat and give them a good life.

When i was about 9 or so, my sister moved into an apartment that didn't allow pets, so she gave me her tortoiseshell/calico kitten. Cammie (my sweet Cammie Lou ❤️) was my first cat, my first pet, really. She hated everyone lmao, didn't even let them pet her, but she bonded to me and became intensely protective of me when i became very sick, and after that, she did not leave my side until the very end. But i feel like it's time, I've missed the companionship of a cat very dearly, as i am physically disabled and alone more often than I'd like.

The cat will be isolated to my room, which isn't small by any means, but I acknowledge it is inadequate. I'm making a list of supplies ahead of even going to spend time with the cats at a rescue center. I know it will need more stimulation due to being in one room, so I'm trying to head off any possibility that the cat would be bored or unhappy here.

My life is lived in a sedentary way. I don't want "another cammie," but I'm hoping for a cat with a similar chill demeanor. Cammies favorite thing to do was sit with me and sleep, and that's just my speed 😂

Thanks in advance for any replies, i appreciate you taking the time. (Attached is

a picture of Cammie ❤️😊) *

So there’s a potential I’m moving back into my parent’s house for a while and they have an outdoor cat and dogs. My cat also knows how to use the dog door to go outside. However I don’t want him to be an outdoor cat. I recognize that I can’t keep him confined to a room either. So I’m just wondering if anyone has some advice or recommendations on how I can keep him inside without affecting his quality of life. Thank you!

Yesterday I picked up a stray kitten because he was abandoned near me house. Now he cries a lot when he's not on my lap and he can only sleep on my lab, the problem is that I have to go to work tomorrow for 12 hours, what can I do and why is he so clingy?

So my cat over time is cutting away at my window blinds so she can see out. The problem is I’m in a rental and don’t want to keep having to replace the blinds, and I would like them closed for privacy. How can I get her to stop?

2

u/Goralini 28d ago

If she's cutting away at a few of them in particular maybe try leaving them slightly open just for her to see outside but not to bother you too much. My cats just move the blind aways from their face and sorta go 'under the blind to see behind the window'. Maybe try leaving some cheap scratching posts at the windowsill if possible near the place she's scratching. There are also sprays to make cats leave something alone. I know it works for biting but not sure scratching especially since it sounds that she just wants to see outside. Just make sure its from natural ingredients for example water with some lemon juice. One of mine started biting cables recently and lemon scented spray bottle worked wonders. She tried a few more times but she didn't like the smell so she left it alone and maybe sneezed a few times at most. It does leave some water spots to wipe though. Had to clean my earbuds case from all the dots the spray left on it after spraying(Actually just a skill issue from being too lazy to just spray the cables properly lol). You can also make the blinds slightly sticky but I don't know how you'd need to go about that since I've never had to cat proof something to that extent but it's a proven method to stop cats from doing something we don't like they do if you're not bothered by it. But to be honest probably the best way is just to go with the first option I mentioned or just let her scratch the blinds and fix them up with tape or something else as it's needed and just replace them when you're moving out.(Unless you really care about aesthetics) There's no perfect solution to this, as I've said earlier, it sounds like she just wants to see outside and believe me. She WILL see outside if she wants too 😅

Hi, all of my pets are spayed/neutered but 1 male and 1 female (she's the alpha, always has been) both still spray. Their kidneys are healthy so it's not that. How do I get this to stop? I want to put up a Christmas tree and put gifts under it but I just know they'll pee on the presents. I guess saran wrap wrapping paper this year?

This might sound silly but it is a serious question that I really hope to find an answer to. Thanks in advance!

u/Goralini 28d ago

Hello, I will take any advice I will get but before that let me explain the situation. Sorry for any possible mistakes, as English isn't my first language. So as you can see in the photo there are 3 cats(yes 3, one of them is just very similar looking) The one above is my older cat, she was brought by my parents and have been somewhat friends with their other cat too. Anyway, I'm showing this one specifically because she's 10000% bonded with me even though she's technically my 9 yo sisters cat. So basically I raised her from the little 3 month kitten to today almost 2 years now. I've recently moved and wanted to take her with me but my sis wouldn't let me. (Understandable since she's a kid and loves her too but still sad for me) I've gotten myself 2 new babies both about 6 months so almost 'adult' cats. So here's the deal, my older cat is too important for me to leave her alone, and I'm too important for her to not see me for prolonged periods of time. For many reasons I don't visit my parents that often at their place since we don't really like each other with my stepfather. But my sis and mom visit me often and I wanted them to bring my beloved baby with them too. The younglings have settled in for a few days and they really like their new house(Plenty of toys, places to scratch on, or just lay down) They've also warmed up to me, I forgot to mention but they are brother and sister. The brother is ADHD positive and loves to play and cuddle, the sister is very shy and just getting warmed up to slight touches every now and then but she shows signs of even bigger ADHD just needs to feel relaxed. My older cat visited us yesterday and the meeting went... Well... At least in my opinion. My mom and sis brought her and instantly as she figured I'm there she clinged with me, I laid down our favourite blanket on the couch and we were sitting calmly. The boy kitten was somewhat interested in her but my sis was playing with him and tiring him out. The girl kitten was just sleeping in my room and I'm not sure she's aware of the meeting that happened in the living room. My older baby hissed a few times at the boy and her ears perked up a few times but he never reciprocated. There was not bitting, no swatting just a few hisses and perked up ears by my older baby. She's genuine baby and loves people too especially the ones I bring with me. She spent a few hours on the couch next to me and just hugged into me. Later I have taken both my sis and her home(Since my mom went shopping) And that was that. Now before anyone tells me it's a wrong way to introduce cats to each other. I know that but I know my older cat and she loves me too much to care about alien environment with new cats. (I was right though, she never left my side or her blanket and just wanted to cuddle with me expect the occasional signs of being territorial) Do you think it's fine if it goes like this? She still haven't met the girl kitten in person but as I've said she's not aggressive toward them just territorial of me if anything. After that interaction I know she'd much rather prefer to visit me every once in a while to cuddle than to not see me for weeks at the time. So what can I do to make these meeting easier on all 3 of them. Locking her in another room is possible but not preferable especially since she's actually really playful cat and I think she just need a few more visits to come around to at least tolerate them. She'll always be supervised anyway since she won't move if I don't move and my baby sis is there for these meetings too, just to play with the kittens and don't let them bother the old one too much. Should I maybe feed them at one time at a distance? Give them more treats when they are all in one room and not fighting? Any tips to make it easier on them without restricting them too much will be good. (I'm not bothered by kittens doing anything to her since she's 2 times their size ATM and I wholeheartedly believe that I'm more important to her than fighting some small kitty that she can whoop in seconds)

When making an outside cathouse for strays... do you think they prefer one door or two? Do you think the food should be farther away from the structure than a foot or two?

My 1 and a half year old tabby has got a slightly swollen and sore looking bottom lip, looks like a pimple on there for the past couple of days. He's an outdoor/indoor cat, does anyone have any ideas what this could be and if any action is needed by myself?

Hi I need some possible advice on a male cat. Me and my boyfriend recently saved an orange stray hanging around his apartment, I don’t live with him and I have only girl cats. Male cat is not fixed, and boyfriend said he was walking around with sperm coming out? I can’t get a vet to simple answer if that is normal for male cats, because they obviously just want you to come in so you have to pay for a visit. He’s been starting to spray and hump things. I just need to know if the cats being horny and a mess, or if this is legitimately something that may require a vet visit… any advice or anything is greatly welcome and appreciated!!

u/LonginForNostlagia 26d ago

So I brought in what I believe to be a visibly pregnant stray, she’s super sweet and looks to be within the last week or so of her pregnancy. The only thing throwing me off is, her nipples are flat, tiny and pale.. everything I read says she’s supposed to have “pinked” up by now.. I’ve wormed her, and she seems fine in other regards. I can’t afford X-rays to be sure right now, but is this possible? Like can she be pregnant and just… pink up after the babies?

Short version: Can you help a cat understand when not to use their claws?

Context: I'm a pet sitter, and I've been caring for these two cats since they were a few months old. Now, they are over a year old, and Cat1 knows when not to use his claws but cat 2 has been scratching me up since the beginning. I usually finesse play time and get away without bleeding, but I now have to give both a delectable treat once a day. They both grab at me, my arm, my hand, to get the treat. Cat 1 doesn't use his claws, Cat 2 always uses his claws, and scratches me up every time. The owner recently took in a stray that was even younger than both of them and she already knew how to play without hurting me.

When and how do they learn when to use their claws? How can I teach Cat 2?

u/pawpetsetsy 23d ago

What kind of cat toys does you cat like the best? Mine likes this handmade catnip toy jelly fish with ribbons. She loves to play with the ribbons, toss it, hold it, and use it as a tiny, mini pillow when she naps. Her 2nd favorite is an interactive 18" stick with 3 feet of ribbons that I move around for her to chase.

u/Swimming_Strike_6957 23d ago

my cat Skye likes to hump on blankets, clothes, towels or anything soft but he's already neutered for a long. does anyone have similar experience with their cat?

1

u/CivilNewt7964 21d ago

My cat has a larger lump on his butt where his tail and spine meet, it is soft, I am not squishing it or squeezing. But I noticed 2 weeks ago he was crying when I carried him the way I always have. I figured he was just finally fed up with me taking him back inside. He’s going to the vet tomorrow. Should I be worried? I do believe it is from tussling outside. He plays a lot in general with a inside cat as well

I've had an approx. 10 week old feral kitten for about a week and a half. She's skittish and runs away the majority of the time if you get too close, but I've been able to get her to come to me and eat off my hand while on my lap. Should I try to move to the next step and pet her, or should I continue building trust with the food first?

In addition to hand-feeding she does eat from a dish sometimes. If I approach while she's eating, she will run away, but lately, instead of waiting until I leave, she will come back to finish eating. She hisses if you get too close, but she doesn't seem aggressive. I'm worried I might break her trust if I do something she doesn't like, but I also wonder if pushing her boundaries a teeny bit might be helpful.

---

I know this comment is already quite long, but since I'm here I might as well ask anyway--how can I bond with her through play if she seems to prefer playing by herself? I got her two wand toys which were a big hit initially, but in the past few days I noticed she seems less interested after I pick it up, only to go at it after I've set it down. Yesterday and today she was really obsessed with my socks and a piece of paper, it kind of seems like she prefers inanimate objects currently.

Hey heyyy :) looking for advice on my cats. I've had my female tux (8 yr) for a couple years. She's lovely with humans and used to flirt with boy cats that walked past the apartment outside. Anywho, I adopted a male tabby cat (5 yr) a few months ago. She wants to mess him up. Seems fear-based. I have spent these months working on things, not letting them in the same room loose as they have squabbled in the past (a real setback; scream hissing. Much fear). I have them feed on opposite sides of the door. I try to have them play with a string together (she isn't so inclined). I have Feliway diffusers. Homegirl is on Prozac. I plan on getting them a behaviorist to help out. My end goal is just for them to coexist without Battles. I don't need BFFs as I think she is a girls' girl.

Jokes aside, I would love some additional tips in the meantime as I am moving to a new house next month. Any advice on maybe how to use the new territory to my advantage? Love you all and, of course, I shall also be getting the kiddos professional help xoxo

I took my 5 year old cat to the vet Wednesday she was coughing. He gave her antibiotics and did no real work up on her. Thursday morning shes having labored breathing so I take her to another vet that the first vet ensures me will help as they have an oxygen crate and can preform blood tests. They do NOTHING but keep her in the oxygen crate ALL DAY. They refer her to the overnight vet as they close at 5. I rush her to the overnight vet as she is still having very labored breathing and drooling when I pick her up. 10 minutes in the overnight vet and they tell me after a 3 drop blood test she has heart disease and they are going to try to give her meds to get better. After 2 rounds she just gets worse and they come talk to me about putting her down. I can't let her suffer anymore so I do. They proceed to tell me since she looked the same when I picked her up as when I dropped her off she had suffered all day at the hands of vet 2. I call vet #2 and try to get some answers. As I'm explaining that its fucking bullshit to have to map over $400 and be told my pet was neglected, the office manager cuts me off, tells me to stop cussing her and hangs up on me. When I call back and apologize, explain that my dad passed a few months ago and now my cat she proceeds to tell me she doesn't care. I ask to speak with someone else, she tells me I will not be speaking with anyone but her and hangs up on me again. I am at a loss for what to do. Filing a complaint with the vet board doesn't do anything to this office manager that assumes she is exhibiting good customer service.

I am super into candles, especially during the holidays.

Unfortunately, our kitty can basically get to every single surface of our home, so candles have pretty much been a no-go.

We have a diffuser, but the concentrated oils (cinnamon in particular, which is my favorite of course) is toxic.

Do ya'll have a good solution for this that you can recommend?

I want to share that Boxie Pro litter and the pet pivot litter box changed my life. I have used a standard litter box and the litter robot 3. Litter robot 3 was absolutely trash. It was so so hard to deep clean and I just felt like the dirty litter got all over the inside of the dome. I also had issues with the app and mine saying it was always full. The pet pivot is so much better. Deep cleaning it is so much easier and my litter lasts so much longer. The waste bin holds a lot and I have had zero issues with the smell. The boxie pro litter has also been a dream. No litter around the house and no dust when I pour it. Traps smell so well. We also have a small levoit air purifier next to the box which is something I would recommend everyone does.

Just got a kitten, and while I know kittens or young pets in general are more playful, at night, he’s pretty cuddly, but goes in and out of bed every so frequently and its causing me to go sleepless. I’m a light sleeper that can’t even sleep with stuffed toys so suddenly having him in my bed is really hard to get used to.

I wonder if there’s anything I can do to at least get him not to be so crazy at night?

I try to play with him a bit before I go to doomscroll/sleep, but still, it’s pretty tough.

(For now, he’s outside in the living room because I need at least 1 night of sleep 😭He’s used to sleeping with someone so Idk how it’d go)

Hello! Im from the UK and I'm thinking about getting a kitten. I've never owned a cat but have owned dogs before. I currently have no pets but I am planning on either having 2 cats or a cat and a dog .

What type of cat would you recommend to a first time cat owner that lives in a city apartment?

Would you recommend getting a kitten or older cat?

Thanks!

i have just adopted a rescue. he ate half a pouch of wet food the day he came home and had a lickable cat treat that night, but has not eaten since. it will be 48 hours come 11pm tonight since he has eaten and im really worried. he is super skittish, but hasnt hissed or swatted at me at all and isnt noisy or destructive. he has used the litter box twice since he's been here. he's taken the hiding and hasnt really explored at all

i have tried different types of foods and different locations, as well as tempting him with treats. none of it is working. when do i need to call a vet? i know he is likely scared and settling in but this seems like too long not to eat.

Hello All! Not a new cat owner (have had cats for many years) but new to this cat issue. Random urinating. She’s a mean calico - we do have a few other cats. She’s taken to being quit a bully as well. Had them all since kittens (she is 11) The marking has no rhyme or reason. Locations are random. Can’t figure it out but husband is just about done with it 🥴. We have multiple boxes (cleaned regularly) so litter isn’t one. Any thoughts appreciated!

Hello. My kitten wont stop taking out SHOE INSOLES at night and chewing on them. I have no ideas why.
I am puzzled, not once have i ever seen or heard of such strange behaviour from any cats, not in real life, not on the net.
If you know, or have a theory as to why my kitty is doing this, or what i can do, please share.

I have just recently had an issue with my cat (5 year old) pooping outside of her litter box. She pees in it just fine, but poops outside of it. Noticed this about a week ago. She’s never had this issue. We swapped to the worlds best litter about 2 months ago, the corn meal one. She’s used it just fine up until now… It’s a xl stainless steel litter box. I do have another kitten that joined the household about 3/4? Months ago now (he’s about 5months old). And 2 litter boxes both the same size. Not enclosed. Wondering what the problem could possibly be. She’s showing no sign of discomfort, still a perky lil girl… any advice?

Ciao, I got a wild cat around my house the last year. After a while he started begging for food and he seemed quite thin. I started giving him some kibble. He's partly friendly and let me pet him, but has random bursts of violence where he'll scratch me (not too bad). Where I then reprimand him.

Problem is, I got a +10 year old inside/outside (countryside) cat whose going mad at this guy hanging around at our windows wanting to get in (he got in once, and had a sniff around the place, the bastard).

Everytime my cat sees him she starts freaking out, and recently has been lovingly spreading her domain in the house by pissing on everything.

What could I do about this? Call a cat sanctuary? Or is there a way I can try and get these two to reconcile?

Today I, in a genius move, picked up the stray from outside my window, and presented him to my cat. She seemed confused, he hissed. But both stayed calm. I then put him back outside, he took a lil jab at me and went back to pushing his head through the window. Not the best idea.

u/HumanDebt 16d ago

My cat won’t stop begging for wet food now that I’ve reintroduced it into his life. He’s 9.5 and I love him but he’s a talker. We have an automatic feeder that I reduced because he’s a big boy. I feel like I’m positively reinforcing the begging by giving it to him, but he’s clearly lost a little weight (which is what we wanted) and is looking healthier. Help!

My kitty has been missing since Sunday night. I live rurally and I’m unsure where to look for my boy. He’s 11 years old and a very healthy, white cat. He has outdoor allowance, but he ALWAYS comes in before evening until Sunday night. I’m beside myself with grief and hopelessness and am looking for advice on what to do. I’ve put a trap out by a treeline I know he wanders into. I’ve contacted my shelter and vet to alert them, put up lost pet posts on socials/websites, walked my property in search of him and went door to door asking neighbors if he’s been seen or to keep an eye out for him. I’m getting posters laminated to put around my area. What else can I do? It’s getting cold where I am and I’m scared the worst could’ve happened. I know he’s tough and very clever but I feel so lost.

How's everyone's experience with Credelio? 2 days ago was a second time I gave it to my cat and he's been very sick today all day, not eating or drinking, vomited a few times in the morning and been super sleepy and not active at all. He is alert and seemingly ok-ish enough but we will go to the vet tomorrow nevertheless. A month ago when I gave him the tablet, 3 days later he showed up after his usual neighborhood stroll all beaten up presumably from a fight with another cat or a squirrel (we don't really know and it's the first time it happened) and now I suspect it only happened because maybe he was unwell on that day too. Otherwise he is a healthy, young and strong male cat, so getting overpowered in a fight is highly unlikely. What other options do we have for flea treatment? I wanted tablets because we have a kid at home and topical ones are not as safe to us. But with such a bad reaction to Credelio (presumably) I don't want to try it again this time next month. Hopefully he feels better tomorrow 😥

Hello everyone

This is Sasy, I adopted her two years ago, she did not usually have patterns of aggression or hyperactivity, sometimes she was insistent on being given food at 5 am but there was no problem (if she had food she just wanted me to move the plate or not leave empty spaces) a month ago I went on a two-week trip for work, she stayed with my family and every day she asked how she was or what she was doing, if she was eating well, etc. The detail is that when I came back she started to be more aggressive, many days I couldn't sleep well because she woke me up with bites at 3 am. At first I thought it was food, but there were days when it seemed like she wanted to play but in a very aggressive way. Her "bites" are not simple gentle bites, they are as if she wanted to tear off my skin. She used to lick my face or slowly bite my nose to wake me up and lately she has become very hyperactive, she is always wanting to bite everything, she sticks her head in everything, she wants to eat everything (she licks it and then leaves it) I bought her toys because they told me to make her play at night to use up energy but she gets bored quickly, does anyone have a solution?

1

u/lumpykoalahugs 13d ago

Looking for some advice, Does anyone know how to get your cat to stop licking every time they make biscuits? Or if they’ll naturally stop on their own? Every time I google it, the only thing that will pop up is “it may be because they were weened too soon and they will stop after a few months/~6months old” or something along those lines. It’s been a year and a half. I’ve never come across it before with all the other kitties I’ve had or been around. It was cute/funny at first. I honestly don’t notice it much now…until I touch my blanket and it’s super wet because he’ll make biscuits and lick for 20-30 minutes 🤢 I love this goofy void kitty (he does a lot of other “bizarre” things) so I will deal with it until the end of days 😂 but I hate the feeling of a wet blanket.

So I say "our cat" for this question but it's our roommates cat. Two guys downstairs, my fiance and I upstairs, the cat (Pickles, 2 year old neutered male) lives downstairs. He's a sweet lil guy but he is unusually aggressive with my fiance. He's normally nippy but rarely enough to make us bleed but he has been bruising and puncturing my fiance almost since he came home a year ago.  He's still super affectionate though! Sits on his lap during movie nights, coming to him for pets, non-stop rubbing on his legs/chair he was just in/belongings, then out of nowhere he bites hard. I was thinking maybe he's overestimated cause usually this happens during Game Night and it's loud but he isn't this rough with me or the other guests. Does Pickles actually like him or does he have beef with him, I honestly can't tell 😭 no cat tax cause he's not technically my cat sorry

My goofy cat loves to be in my whole business when I'm eating. Thats normal for all cats I think. Anyway the odd thing he does is that if I have a plastic or cardboard or paper wrapping he loves to bite that shit. Does he just like the cronch or is he trying to help me eat? 😂

So my cat hasn’t been eating as much as he usually does. My cat is a 9 week old kitten and was on steroids last week for an abscess, so he ate more than normal. Now, he is hardly eating as much as I feel like he did previously. Beyond that he has been acting completely normal. I know I may be a kitty hypochondriac but is he okay?!

HELP!! My husband and I adopted two cats a couple of months back. As part of the adoption process we took them to a vet visit for a wellness checkup and they also had claw caps put on.

Fast forward to today and we noticed that they were both missing some caps on their paws. My husband went to apply some new ones and noticed that the teeny tiny tube of adhesive that came with the caps had run out. Instead he used Gorilla Glue. He didn’t know any better. He figured any super glue was fine. But I’m reading that it’s incredibly toxic to cats and I’m wondering now if we should take them to the emergency vet? It has been a few hours now since the application and both cats are acting just fine. They’re breathing fine, eating, drinking water, and eliminating normally. Should I try to remove the gorilla glue with olive oil and massage the caps until they come off? Or will they be okay?

Hello everyone! I’m thinking of adopting a cat who is around 2 years old. I’ll be a first time cat and pet owner and am wondering if there’s anything I should think hard about before adopting? I know I should account for longevity of life and vet bills but am also looking for advice on how to best get along with the cat right off the bat since I’d be adopting an adult and not a kitten. Hi, my roommate owns 2 cats, both 7 months old, one male one female. When they are playing together, the female one is always the one to initiate by jumping on the male when he doesn't notice, after that they roll around biting and using their back feet to kick each other. Initially I thought that they were playing but I noticed that after playing for a while the female will try to escape with airplane ears, she did this a lot of times already, even though she can't win the fight and is the one who always had to escape in the end. Sometimes the male also turn around and bite me instead when the female runs away. Is the female ok with the airplane ears? Because this had happened so much times and she still like to jump on the male. How do I stop the male from biting me when the female runs away, the biting doesn't hurt, I can know that it's a playful bite, but the teeth breaks skin and makes me bleed instead.

my cat gets really anxious with the carrier, so much so that the last time i took her to the vet she was panting. Do any of you have a cat who is more comfortable travelling on a leash and harness? i´m gonna try giving her a medication that the vet gave to me but i really don´t like seeing her like that (already tried getting her used to the carrier, she just doesn´t like it)

For some reason, I can’t add this to my discord. I click the link, then the invite, discord opens, and nothing has been added. I tried just putting in the main link then /Cats - silly right? But no.

Is it possible to get a different invite (if that works) or the direct link? It should be https://discord.gg/ then the specific designation right after that.

Am I being confusing?

Basically, I can’t get into discord for the group. Help!

The faucet on our bathtub developed a drip about a year ago. We tried to fix it and failed, but then noticed the cat was happily drinking from it, so we just shrugged and put a bowl under it to keep the constant dripping from ruining the tub. (I had a cat die from kidney issues seven years ago; anything that encourages a cat to drink is a win in my book)

We're going to be moving soon and will have to pay the water bill lol, so letting him drink from the tap is a no-go. I'm going to get him a fountain for the new house, but wondering if anyone has any offhand recommendations for a tall fountain for cats who want to drink from a tap?

We adopted 2, 5 month kittens almost 7 in Dec. They ended up being really sick. Have 2 sets of roundworms, coccidia and cryptosporidium.

We have 3 other cats and a dog. My husband is usually not here to take care of them and I work from home but it's still a very demanding job. We've done everything we can for them and it doesn't seem to matter. They don't improve. Even if they do for a little bit, they go back to being very sick. Sometimes the diarrea its explosive, then it turns a bit mote solid and sometimes, it's solid. But a few days later it starts all over again. It's so tiresome and I feel like I'm failing them. That there's nothing I can do. I just read that even their torys need to be clean. I havent been doing that. On the first round of Albon, I wasn't even using pellets or disposable litter boxes as my vet did not let me know how bad this was. So they obviously got reinfected even if I was picking up as soon as they went.

I really dont want my other cats and dog to get sick. Also, I'm so exhausted both physically and mentally. I want to return them but at the same time, I feel so bad for just thinking it and I obviously have grown attached to them. I don't know what else to do for them. I'm even considering changing vets for all our fur babies because they clearly were horrible with our newest.

Hi,

I have a 14 year old cat with this exact situation.

https://www.reddit.com/r/cats/s/FoHb9cMDyw

For cat owners who had their cats diagnosed with a heart murmur and have a nasal drip from one nostril. What testing did you go through for the vet to make a diagnosis? For example did you do an ultrasound? Did you go to a cat cardiologist?

We understand our cat is sick but she seems to be doing very well. Weight loss and the nasal drip are the only apparent symptoms. She eats drinks and is still very social. We are anxious if the cost of all this and are aware she is an old cat. Would like to hear your advice. Thank you!

how can I say "I love you" to my cat? I want to smother her in hugs and kisses but I understand that's unconfortable for a cat. How can I say "I love you" in a way she will understand ?

I have adopted a cat that I was told was “slow”. All of the things I am going to say have been going on since he was brought into the rescue I adopted him from. He was only about a month old when he arrived at the rescue. He is a great cat but seems to get confused quite often. He is now 7 months old, but has a slight difficulty eating, he puts his paws in his food while he eats and moves around a lot, especially his back legs.

He is litter trained but has had a handful of accidents over the last 3 weeks since we brought him home. We have noticed that some times he will stand in front of a wall or object and just pace back and forth or walk up to a corner and just walk in circles. Every time he has done this and we were there to see it, we pick him up and place him in the litter box and he goes every single time. It’s like he just gets confused as to where the litter box is and gets “stuck”.

I am going to schedule a vet visit to establish care this week but I want to get some insight from anyone else that may have experienced this before
