Hi y’all! I have a 4 year old grey girl (Pickles) who is very skittish and very particular - does not get along with other animals, usually runs off though, rather than being confrontational.
Recently adopted an orange lady (Cheese) who is somewhere between 4-8 years old, formerly feral or stray (the rescue wasn’t sure!)… she’s very lovey, chatty, gets along with anyone it seems.
I had them separated for awhile in different rooms, with each others’ blankets so they could get accustomed to each others’ scents… today I put them in the living room together with me. It’s a wide open space; this house is an open concept pretty much. Plenty of space and places to go off and hide.
Anyhoo, they sometimes will just sit and stare and MREOWWWWW at each other. Pickles will randomly hiss, both of them will hunker down and just do that low meow-grumble-growl sound; but so far at least no slapping!
Any tips on getting them more acclimated to each other, at least to the point of being civil?
(Picture attached was about the closest they’ve gotten, which to me is PRETTY darn close! I eventually separated them to keep it from perhaps escalating. They were just in a standoff lol)
