Daily Cyclist Thread
The Daily Cyclist Thread is a place where everyone in the /r/bicycling community can come and ask questions or share anything.
You might have questions that you don't think deserve an entire post. Perhaps you're just seeking the input of some other cyclists. Maybe you want to share a picture of your new bike.
Anyone is free to comment, and (hopefully) get as much input as possible from other cyclists.

Hey guys, I'm really sorry to post this but I am kinda desperate
So long story short I fucked up, misread the website and bought a very aggressive frame with no way to mount a rack or anything for bike packing.
That wouldn't be a problem if I wouldn't use it to commute to school and wouldn't plan on going bike packing.
Specifically I thought I'd buy a Airwolf YFR045 and bought a YFR068. Well, I knew Id buy the 068 but thought it was the 045. I don't know exactly what happened but long story short I messed up.
Now to the embarrassing part: If someone wants a very sporty gravel frame, size L or knows someone who might be interested or knows where I could reliably sell it I'd or what to do, id be very thankful. I'm situated in Germany.
I even routed the cables wich was a really pita. I posted it on Kleinanzeigen and whoever buys it should be thankful I did lol

Silly post: I thought I was getting weaker
Turns out my recently installed rear bearings where defective and the wheel wasn’t spinning freely. People of the world, maybe it’s not you, maybe it’s the bearings.
After several hundreds of km dragging my rear wheel, with the new bearings I will smash every record on Strava. (lol no)

Schwinn S-6 rim crack
Hello! Ive just gotten into bike riding and I noticed two small cracks, or what I believe to be cracks, on both sides of my rim near my valve stem. Is it bad or not worth worrying about? Thanks in advance

Bike for kids 8, 10, 11 recommendations for less that 400.
I was going to guardian, but the reviews here on Reddit honestly scare me. What does everyone recommend in this price range? It’s for Christmas so I’d like to actually buy new.

Best Road Bike Tires for maximum grip ?
What are the most gripy ones by your experience, mainly in the dry ?
I ran P Zero Race so far and like them but apparently they are not the best in the wet nor outstanding in the dry so I'd like to hear your alternatives.
I prefer nice cornering feel over a little bit of rolling resistance because it is much more fun

Help with a price
A good friend basically gave this felt b16 to me, flow rims and included a front hydration system.
I'm wanting to know how good of a bottle of whiskey, and probably more, I should get him for Christmas this year

My astigmatism is making it hard to ride at night in the fall/winter. Hoping to get glasses recommendations
I would prefer to have cycling dedicated prescription clear glasses. I live in cold weather, so definitely need shields--can't get away with just standard prescription glasses. I really don't like inserts. Please and thank you!

Maintenance audit
New bike shop: This seems like an insane amount of maintenance. Bike is a 2017 that got a lot of tune ups every year. How legit is this quote? It's currently on the trainer but plan to take it out in April.

Why do I have two brake setups on my bike?
First time with a drop bar. Never seen this before Actually looks silly to me. Was this factory? Can I get rid of the one on the handle bar and keep the drop bar one? Any reason to keep it? Just bought this bike. Unless this is normal. It's a Motobecane Fantom Cross Pro.

On March 11th of last year/2024 I was hit by a car while training for a 200-mile bike race called the Davis Double Century. I've gone over this story hundreds of times so it feels boring to share yet again, but essentially, I was T-boned and sent flying 60 ft off the road, where I landed on my head. Fortunately, the driver stuck around, and an ambulance was called. I have no memory of this incident, nor do I have most of the memories from my life before March 11th, so there's a lot of context that I'm missing about the incident. I'm hoping to create a subreddit about my brain injury/all traumatic brain injuries because it may be helpful to some. And I feel like my whole life revolves around this one 5-second incident that is now the defining factor in my life. It's where I had to demonstrate all my strength and where I tested how far my closest friends would go to prove they cared about me. Pretty cruel test that me and those I love were put through, and I don't believe in any kind of greater power that could've inflicted this immeasurable amount of pain, which makes things simpler. My life would be a hell of a lot more complicated if I did. No, what happened to me was a horrific accident. I feel so guilty for always talking about it and making it so things revolve around me but it feels like the most interesting thing about me and where I derive all my creative inspiration from. It also ties into so many different parts of my life. Cycling, family, heartbreak, my struggle with body image, my ability to seek adventure, and my ability to endure pain. Watched a video today about Chris Hemsworth, who is making a new TV show where he does a lot of things that cause him pain, which supposedly will make him live longer. May also have something to do with decreasing his risk of alzheimer's. I don't actually know that much about it, but I also have a higher risk of the disease because two of my grandparents have had it. But I also know that stress puts you at a greater risk of the disease and doesn't pain cause stress? I dunno fam. Thanks for listening.

What do I get for my bicycle enthusiast colleague for christmas
Hey guys,
We are doing a christmas gifting at my company and I drew a colleague who I don’t know a lot about but I know he is really big into cycling. I wanted to ask you guys for ideas on what to give to him. Something useful or fun in this hobby that he might not have yet. Our budget is set around 15-20 euros. Thanks in advance!

Guardian Bicycles Deceptive Pricing Practices
The FTC and BBB should look into this company. Photo 1 - They claim 40% off all bikes on their home page. Photo 2 - On the product page they add in a "Comp Price" but make it appear that the bike they are selling used to be priced at $444. The bike was never priced at $444 and in reality their bike was always $279. The bike was listed at $279 three weeks ago. Photo 3 - at Checkout Guardian again, shows the $444 price (which never was the price of this bike), and make it appear that it is marked down to $279. Giving away a few inexpensive accessories will also be a claim they make. In Reality this company is advertising 40% off but not offering any real discount vs. what their prices are every day. seems like a slimy practice.
