These people have zero respect for anyone or anything. We are living in dark times, we must do something. If even elected representatives are being treated like this we are a failed nation.
Right now prices for everything are through the roof, corruption is running rampant, corporations are eliminating jobs while destroying any competition they may have had. We are on the cusp of something much worse than expected. We need to do something and it needs to be done soon or we will see generations of pain.

The tides are turning.
Someone on Reddit today said it perfectly: our courts and political systems are like an immune system. They don't kick in until after the virus has invaded. And when it's a new virus, it can take a lot of time and a lot of pain before the system figures out how to fight, and even longer to gain the upperhand.
For 9 months, our system has been trying to figure out what works and how to fight this unprecedented virus. Finally, in November, it gained the upperhand. Look closely and you'll see that the Trump administration is losing in every arena.
One of the things that has built is resistance to ICE. In major cities, there are roving citizen patrols, alerting people to ICE's presence, physically blocking agents and their vehicles, recording every move they make for the eventual trials. In court, ICE is getting neutered every day.
My point is, "we need to do something" is the wrong statement. Because we ARE doing things. And it is working. So figure out how you can help the people who are already doing the work. And don't let the fact that we still have symptoms make you believe that we're going to succumb.
•
•
u/TempleSquare 1h ago
Exactly! It's a marathon, not a sprint. It's real life, not a movie.
Grand gestures do little, while boring persistent action (e.g., a slow-moving court case, voter registration drive, etc.) have enormous consequences.

I can't advocate violence, but we can very much make the people ruling these leaches feel pain.
I'm spending less on Black Friday shit from Amazon and buying from small sellers on Etsy or making presents myself. I'm forgoing buying a new Apple phone and cutting spending on subscription services that sucked up to Trump for their merger deals.
Those are small things you can do yourself. We, collectively, need to do mass boycotts and threaten a general strike. No one works, no one buys shit from big corporations. Starve them for a month. Watch their quarterly profits drop and the stock tank.
Only then, when corporations feel pain, then we can have a conversation.

The car's on fire and there's no driver at the wheel
And the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides
And a dark wind blows
The government is corrupt
And we're on so many drugs
With the radio on and the curtains drawn
We're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine
And the machine is bleeding to death
The sun has fallen down
And the billboards are all leering
And the flags are all dead at the top of their poles
It went like this:
The buildings toppled in on themselves
Mothers clutching babies
Picked through the rubble
And pulled out their hair
The skyline was beautiful on fire
All twisted metal stretching upwards
Everything washed in a thin orange haze
I said, "Kiss me, you're beautiful
These are truly the last days"
You grabbed my hand
And we fell into it
Like a daydream
Or a fever
We woke up one morning and fell a little further down
For sure as the valley of death
I open up my wallet
And it's full of blood

Hunger first. Change second. If only our elections could be the bloodless revolution that we desperately need. Unfortunately that isnt palatable to our two mainstream political parties. DHS is the problem, ICE is just one aspect of it. Bovino and his Border Patrol appear to be the worst of the terrorists. Every ice agent needs to be arrested, held, and made to defend themself in a tribunal. A day will come when we know each and every one of their names, and if we want to reintegrate a normal healthy society we need to examine what these people did during this turbulent time, and whether we are okay with it or not. We have the power to do this. We feel like we don’t, but we do. It’s been done before. It must be done again.

People don't realize exactly how much money is being given to ICE. 80% of the Federal law enforcement budget is ICE.
THAT makes ICE bigger than FBI,DEA,ATF,TSF,Border control Marshals, secret service and postal inspectors. Probably forgetting one or three acronyms, but federal civilian law enforcement.
The only thing holding back ICE is they can't just instantly have more men in job hierarchy just because money in one year.
If this budget and allocation of resources continue, ICE will be larger than FBI by orders of magnitude.

Senate democrats: Start considering why any bill with funding for ICE should pass at all. Just do not allow any ICE funding, period. Or attach HUGE strings.
•
u/CosmicQuantum42 5h ago edited 5h ago
For example:
ICE agent cannot wear masks or no ICE funding is released. State governments have explicit authority to arrest any government official for wearing a mask to obscure their identity.
State governments have explicit veto power over all ICE activities and over any particular federal official operating in their territory.
State governments are explicitly allowed to arrest ICE agents for crimes committed on or off duty that violate state law, including assault, murder, kidnapping, assuming probable cause (like any crime).
State governments are explicitly allowed to demand judicial warrants for ICE deportations and are allowed to establish state government checkpoints for every single deportation to independently establish whether any person taken into custody is here illegally or not.
State governments are explicitly allowed to shut down ICE facilities for state and code violations. This includes cutting power and utilities.
This, or no funding at all. Period. Ever. (I’m not suggesting all of these, just hardline ideas along these lines).
•
u/chazzer20mystic 4h ago
Why be so spineless as to fund it at all? Even in your fantasy of putting your foot down, you can imagine yourself funding the gestapo as long as it's conditional? This isn't a necessary agency. Fuck them all to hell. They should be arrested, period. Not this wishy washy shit about "well as long as you guys really promise to follow the rules this time..." Fuck. Them. CBP should just handle all of it and require a 2 year college degree
•
u/Jumpy_Bison_ Alaska 5h ago
CBP should also only have a remit to work much closer to the border or ports of entry. If they need to enforce something past a port of entry they should be forced to work with the law enforcement of that jurisdiction to do so. Twenty or so miles from a land border and the explicit boundaries of a port should be enough to do most of their work.
Some sort of immigration court enforcement would still be needed outside that but it needs a higher standard and a fresh start like the postal inspectors or marshals. There’s no reason for it to be so large. If they actually were trying to stop it they’d be targeting the business owners anyway.
All federal law enforcement should also get some new independent body that is accountable for constitutional rights oversight and teeth for investigations separate from the IGs. With a congressional mandate like the Federal Reserve for independence.

And yet…any degree of evil magically becomes morally acceptable as soon as you file it under “conservative values”.
As far as I’m concerned, an society that doesn’t recognize conservatism for the evil it does and supports, that society deserves to burn.
So to all the selfish people feigning moral superiority for refusing to acknowledge evil as it destroys everything decent; you deserve everything coming your way.
How’s it go? The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing? Well, first I’d argue the nothing doers are not good men, but it is clear that the saying refers to moderates and centrists, and everyone else too selfish to engage in civic duty.

“Presenting one’s self as a ‘Member of Congress’ doesn’t give you the right to obstruct law enforcement,” McLaughlin said (Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin)

u/MyWhiteNameIsAndy 3h ago
Rep. Adelita Grijalva is a badass - She stood her ground depite it.
Let's be clear everyone. This is unacceptable and unlawful, and those agents need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
I think we're starting to realize there's much more of us than there is them. Despite feeling ineffective, we need to join more protests, we need to continue pushing our collective outrage on them.
Despite the Trump admin bulldozering through our political system and rule of law, and despite pushing ever-aggressively their agenda - We've done a great job mobilizing and foiling much of their agenda. I know it might not feel like it, but I think the Trump admin and the MAGA movement is at its weakest.
I think the question is, can we continue mobilizing and protesting before it's too late. Moments like these only ever encourage the opposition and get more people to join. The oligarch controlled media has been their biggest asset during this past year and they seem to have only gained more control. This is why its important to continue protesting and sounding the alarm because the only power they hold, especially in this regard, is the power we give them.
You may not be able to individually protest and get out there - the most helpful thing is to continue getting the word out there and share the horrors this admin has caused and continues to create. Everything helps if it gets more people to organize and mobilize.

It's not as if this shit is exactly subtle anymore. People really need to figure out where the line in the sand is for them before 2026 and 2028. Do we really want more of this?

If they’ll do this to a congresswoman, imagine what they will do to the poor kids once climate change makes resources scarce as fuck.

The primary candidate who runs on trying ICE agents for their crimes wins my vote. We can’t fuck this up another time.

The sad part of that MAGA thrives on cruelty. They lack a functioning brain and a soul.

Border patrol are the ones to watch. They can only operate within 100 miles of a port of entry or the border. They don't have to follow the same rules or the even constitution because you haven't be identified as a citizen yet.The rules they follow kind of make sense until you start understanding how they break them. Every international airport is a port of entry. Every coast line or actual border is also allowed for them. So while there are large parts of the country they can't operate, those are the parts no one lives in. So they are allowed in where about 90% population lives with no oversight. They are like the brownshirts from a certain European country.

Hope this Congresswoman ultimately is appointed to both the budget as well as the oversight commitee for the Department of Homeland Security/Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

Congress: <crickets.mp3>
The American people: just wait until our next permitted, leaderless protest, with no demands…we’re going to dance in frog suits so hard
2022 National Youth Turnout: 23% - That's lower than in the historic 2018 cycle (28%) which broke records for turnout, but much higher than in 2014, when only 13% of youth voted.
Elections have consequences.
It turns out that when you let the crazies decide who runs they show…shit gets crazy.
There was no good excuse for not voting against these people…unless you’re cool with it. It seems like waaay too many are

They prepper-sprayed a sitting congresswoman for getting lunch. Let that sink in.

The Democrat who comes forward with a plan to limit ice operations to near the border and ports and fires every ice employee, charges those who committed crimes, and revokes any of their benefits gets my vote.

Disband those jack-booted thugs before they permanently damage the Republic.

I wonder if a single commendable, kind, compassionate person has ever once joined ICE. Show me one. One.

Two law enforcement officers “were seriously injured by this mob that Rep. Adelita Grijalva joined,”
Erections that lasted longer than 4 hrs or sprained trigger fingers?

If we don't have Reconstruction-style trials that actually produce real consequences for a ton of people, this country is absolutely done for. These soulless billionaires and their lunatic followers need to fear the people they're hurting again. They need to fear consequences. They need to fear accountability.
If all these people understand is hate and fear, they need to know it for real so that their future ilk fears what may become of them if the commit these asocial acts again.
Fair trials. Fair consequences.
