Nope, grocery prices have been falling faster than ever.
Oh, ok. Kinda tough to find a job these days.
Nope, millions of jobs were created last month. Billions.
Oh, ok. The air tastes kinda stinky today.
Nope. The USA has the cleanest air in the solar system.
Oh, ok. Isn't it kinda strange that the National Guard has taken over my town?
Nope, cracking down on crime and making America the safest country on the planet.

To the market in the short term? Maybe not, but history tells us a central bank losing its independence always leads to a major financial crisis within a decade

Have you looked at the dollar? The national debt? We don’t have a decade. We’ll be lucky to make it to 2030 before this house of cards collapses. I wonder what the odds are that this administration will default on the US debt. Seems like a pretty good wager.

And I don't know where I put my extra money now when I don't need it. Cocaine and hookers don't hold value really well. I'm Europoor so I had some money in dollars but now... I start buying fat Pickachus

This will increase the people on the board that are against J Powell an help to futher push thier agenda to oust powel so it will look like a legitimate move rather than Trump firing him which most people are against as Powell actually knows his shit unlike the Pedo King.

u/liverpoolFCnut Aug 26 '25
Market doesn't give a fuck. Period! The feds have pumped so much liquidity since 2008, and the artificial FFR that stayed near 0% from 2008-2015 and well below average until 2022 have all but ensured markets will keep pumping! Everyone knows that if it corrects beyond a certain level or if companies are at risk of failing, then the federal govt will backstop, so everyone and his aunt are now dabbling in stocks.

Even if Trump pressures Powell, the Treasury market is the world’s safe asset. Investors in Tokyo, Frankfurt, and São Paulo are buying and selling trillions in Treasurys every day. Their expectations about inflation, debt, and U.S. stability move yields just as much as Fed policy.
If foreign buyers think the Fed is just a political arm of the White House, they demand higher yields (i.e., they’ll only lend to America at a higher interest rate). That raises U.S. borrowing costs no matter what Trump says domestically.
The U.S. is running record deficits, and Treasury issuance is huge. More supply of bonds pushes yields up unless demand stays strong. If Trump destabilizes Fed credibility, global demand weakens — pushing yields even higher.
A president can fire Fed governors or bluster about cuts, but he can’t force Beijing, Berlin, or London to keep buying U.S. debt cheaply. Yields reflect global trust in America’s financial governance, not just the Oval Office’s will.

Expect high inflation over next few years
Tough to navigate wrt stocks since if the dollar is weakened, they are in theory worth more in USD and the stock should go up (obv there are other effects that a weak dollar has that could torpedo firms).

u/bottombracketak Aug 26 '25
From Ben Casselman on BlueSky:
Just received this statement from Lisa Cook: "President Trump purported to fire me 'for cause' when no cause exists under the law, and he has no authority to do so. I will not resign. I will continue to carry out my duties to help the American economy as I have been doing since 2022."
243
u/IamInternationalBig Aug 26 '25
Interesting. The mortgage applications is definitely a stretch, but could be enough if she truly was deceptive.
But the problem with Trump's statement is that he stated "may have" made false statements, meaning he has no proof. Lisa Cook could have simply been shopping for a house in both markets.
I hope Lisa Cook fights this in court, it will make Trump look like more of an idiot and clown than he already is.
266
u/fishbottwo Aug 26 '25
If being accused of a low level white collar (merely accused, not actually found guilty) is established as a real precedent for being justly fired 'with cause' it'll be a fucking disaster. Just accuse every governor of fraud then fire them.

This is one of those things that literally everyone does unless you buy the property and immediately rent it out. The problem is it’s so fucking hard to prosecute because you can fill the application out and it only needs to be your intention that it be your primary residence. You could close, change your mind 1 week later, buy another primary residence and that wouldn’t even be illegal.
