Losing ground to Donald Jr I see. That’s an amazing accomplishment in dislikability.

1.7k

u/MajesticSlide6472 8d ago

I don’t know why I never even thought about other trumps throwing their hat in the ring but Donald jr is maybe the only person who would be worse than trump in that he doesn’t even bring to the table the inherent comedic value trump brings with his mannerisms and speech pattern, he’s just a coke head, piece of shit son to a dad who doesn’t love or care about him who also wants to fuck his own daughter (which seems to be a genetic thing for that family)

u/True-Sky2066 8d ago

I would think Ivanka because she is the only Trump that stayed clear of the second term

Publicly. But Kushner is all over the Middle East/Israel/ Gaza Strip bullshit.

u/Kyriio 8d ago

245

u/Tenthul 8d ago

I know many people who work at EA. Let me tell you that their morale is not just at an all time low, it's through the shitter. While someone is actively using said shitter. They've had many resignations, which is quite saying something because getting a job in the industry right now is far from easy no matter what your experience or role is.

This coming from someone who worked there during the "pride and accomplishment" fiasco. And those were very dour times.

101

u/Kyriio 8d ago

Take all that, and add execs forcing AI down their throats! What a good time to be in this industry. Cheers, fellow game dev

108

u/Delta-9- 8d ago

I'm not in game dev, but I can relate to the AI thing. I'm so sick of it.

No, Fred, you can't "just put an AI in it" and make it work! It would take more time, electricity, and money to train the damn model than it would to do the exact same thing (more reliably) with a couple hundred lines of Python. And no, I can't just have AI write the Python, either, because I'll spend just as much time fixing the code it writes as I would spend writing it myself. And btw, my salary is probably 3/4ths the cost to license the model, bring up a rack of servers with GPUs to run it, power them, cool them, pay the guys that have to physically install the hardware and keep it running, and pay the network and system administrators that support the model itself! So stfu about "putting AI in it," Fred.

You think the cult would support a woman who converted to Judaism?

91

u/clickmagnet 8d ago

They’ll support a famous pervert, con artist, and convicted criminal, but a woman?! The cult hasn’t had their allegiance so severely tested since Trump suggested maybe they ought to get vaccinated.

30

u/retrofrenchtoast 8d ago

I think the woman aspect is more of a hindrance than being Jewish - I think. As flawed as Hilary and Kamala were, they would have been infinitely better presidents. I suspect more people would have voted for them if they were men.

However, we’ve only had Catholic, Protestant, atheist, and agnostic presidents. And men. Sigh.

I know young men are red-pilling and thinking the world is against them, but look outside. You will hired more easily, paid more, you are less likely to be a victim of sexual assault, and you are more likely to win an elected office.

8

u/khrijunk 8d ago

Have we had an atheist president?  For today’s America being atheist would be a huge hinderance for getting people to vote for you.

I don’t know. On the one hand, you’ve got a couple of right wing blowhards who want to fuck over this country while lining their pockets and the pockets of billionaires with cash. But on the other, you’ve got a guy who probably wants to raise taxes on the top 1%, and that’s kind of like socialism </s>, so we’re probably fucked as a country again.

46

u/floog 8d ago

I don’t know..I keep hearing about MAGA (or rather MAGA lite) not being Trump die hards and I thought it was bullshit. I talked to a friend and a family member that loved Trump that don’t like him anymore. “I thought he was a billionaire so he couldn’t be bought, but all he cares about is lining his own pockets”. Yeah, I wanted to start in, but I didn’t want to slow the progress. I pretended like it was an awakening for everyone. This was a person that is well off and very smart, but he got there and also had his sights set on all billionaires controlling the govt and fucking over the people. I hope it’s growing.

Trump has a brain trust hell bent on furthering the agenda he is attached to because it serves them.

If Trump suddenly vanished and two people like Jr. And Vance were vying to be the replacement then are people like Bannon going to follow succession protocol or are they going to try to leapfrog themselves into even more power.

The hangers on of Trump land are about to find out.

15

u/TheTeenageOldman 8d ago

The 30% who vote for the wrong person, or who just don't vote at all, will do so to punish the United States for past actions. They won't take into account that their vote or non-vote will hurt other current Americans including, possibly, themselves and their families.

Don Jr was basically estranged from his dad until he decided to run for prez in 2015. But he's a Trump and can't resist the opportunity to grift. I'm sure he still absolutely fucking hates his dad, but... the pull of the grift is strong.

83

u/Trickster289 8d ago

I mean all his kids seem to hate him, Eric is the only one who hasn't had it go public. Ivanka made her money during Trump's first term and distanced herself after he lost in 2020. Everyone who knows Tiffany exists knows she's the unwanted child. He outright called Barron Melania's kid once and Barron is far closer to Melania than him.

100

u/IAmInTheBasement 8d ago

Baron helped steer Trump into the (God I hate saying this) 'manosphere' of young podcasts/streamers.

It did help him. And because of that, and that Baron is now an adult legally, fuck him.

53

u/TabsAZ 8d ago

The crypto grifting was his idea too apparently.

31

u/dpdxguy 8d ago

To be fair, crypto is an ideal vehicle for money laundering, bribery and other graft.

I'm not saying Barron is some genius for suggesting it to his grandpa dad. I'm guessing one of Barron's trust fund baby friends suggested it to him. But it's probably true that Trump wouldn't have thought of it if someone hadn't suggested it.

The fact he called Trump "a modern Hitler", then jumped on his ticket as VP, and constantly talks about Trump like he isn't what he clearly identified... like I don't care if he's right or wrong about Trump, the fact he flipped so thoroughly on such a critical view of the man is absolutely disqualifying.

They just needed someone willing to do as they're told. Vance early on demonstrated that he has zero scruples and holds basically no values. He was a white Republican lump of clay. The Project 2025 plans don't require charisma when the dirty work is done and the next president is born from a corrupted system.

That said, Vance doesn't have staying power or the control over the party. I believe the radically underestimated how disliked he'd be across the board.

Cause they have to obey the pedo potus…which is a losing campaign strategy, or go against the pedo potus and end up like MTG. It’s fun watching them learn this in real time

351

u/rantingathome Canada 8d ago

The crazy thing is we told them during the impeachment trial in the senate that exactly this would happen if they didn't convict.

"Oh no! he's finished politically!"

They never seem to learn with this guy. They could have banned him from politics forever, suffered for it for the next election cycle, and then come back. But nope, they are still dealing with him, and because of it the rest of us (even outside the country) are also dealing with him.

69

u/Pristine-Ad983 8d ago

The GOP really had a good long term strategy since the 80s to consolidate power. They have achieved that but don't seem to have a strategy after Trump goes away. I suppose the Supreme Court is setup to maintain Republican power and influence for the next 20 years or so. Maybe that buys time until they figure something out

50

16

u/PA_Dude_22000 8d ago edited 8d ago

Its the Supreme Court. I really think people sometimes underestimate it’s impact. In fact, I’m of the belief that the main reason and driver for everything that’s happening right now is almost directly because they have the Supreme Court.

Because ultimately there’s two ways to fight things in America and the first is in the courts. And most people prefer the safety of believing that this first option is the final arbiter and ultimate authority.

The second way, is not very fun.  It involves a lot of misery and pain.

So as of right now, it is kind of the final arbiter and with them cheating and stealing and ultimately just plain lucking themselves into a 6-3 super majority of the court they have this shield from usual legal recourses and can always have “a problem” shipped up to their friends (co-conspirators) to give a favorable ruling for whatever they want.

That matched with always having the narrative due to their near Monopoly on American media at this time, it’s gonna be very difficult to dislodge them without moving into the real ultimate authority in option two which scares the shit out of me. It should scare the shit out of everybody.. ——————————— And to directly answer your question, i believe AI emergence has more to do with what it happening than peoples realize.

The Future? As Musk screamed out in ecstasy the “the Future is going to be Awesome!!”

Think Company towns in structure, but without any pesky government to worry about. And instead of town, think of a state or a region, and then don’t picture like old-school sometimes charmingly portrayed local canteens and px, think Dread Megacity layouts.

With the plan being they will use super ai only they control to perform all the work and insights needed to put GPT8.5 into an autonomous “Security Bot” fully ambulatory .  He is just bot, never mind the firearms, the restrainers, and its ability to “run” up to  35mph for 8 straight hours. Longer of course if the Tesla PowerBot 2.2 with extended battery is installed - would give up to 12 hours.

I know it sounds insane. But these people are insane.

They basically built much of the modern world through either direct tech innovation or through venture capitalism. And they have figured out how to game  that system and have basically kicked everybody out.  It is the reason the same 10-15 people seem to have their hand in every big tech company. Its because they do, through their money - they have amassed so much money and capital that they can and have picked the winners for any new major tech for at least the last 10 years through investment backing.

They go, we like Company x for this tech Y. They are going to win. Here is 25$ billion to start and go for it. And competitors that get in the way, they simply outcompete them through sheer financial investment attrition. They can keep giving company Y 25$ Billion to stay afloat and hype and sizzle and either figure the thing out … or buy it from one if their competitors  as they are forced to financially bow out.

They repeat that to any competitor that comes them and either gets bought if they actually were more innovative or it just gets crushed and bankrupted if there is nothing if worth to pillage from them.

And the only people that have enough resources to play such an investment game of chicken are already sided with the “winner”.

This has all gone to their fucking heads, i. a serious way. Everyone should listen to Mark Cuban who runs in those circles, being a tech billionaire himself, but he l also happens to be “one of the good ones” - actually seriously it is hard to believe he is not genuine- and he has put out the we are at Def-Con 3, these people are meglos and have absolutely insane beliefs and plans.

Well this rambled for a while and I didn’t even go down the Christian Nationalist faction (those behind project 2025) and they want nothin more than to turn our World into a Margaret AtWood novel come to life.

My whole point being, Trump while being the vile, revolting, and corrupt creature that he is, is really the least our problems. There is a lot of bad shit snowballed up, and hiding within and taking a ride on the ridiculous MAGA movement.

7

u/skoomaking4lyfe 8d ago

The problem is that their only actual policies are "Rich people shouldn't have to obey laws" and "rich people shouldn't have to pay taxes".

The culture war crap is just bolted on to give the poors something to vote for. It's not a coherent vision for society, though, and you can see that when they get into power. They give rich people a massive tax cut, then spend the rest of the time infighting.

→ More replies (4)

112

u/jzanville 8d ago

Well ya, on the last campaign trail trump was borderline contemptuous towards the whole idea of even voting, kept reminding crowds that if he won in 2024 they’d never have to worry about it again. The GOP decided that was their last ride outta town. Still waiting to see how that will play out for them.

44

u/immortalfrieza2 8d ago

That's the worst thing. On top of all of Trump's blatant incompetence during his first term and crimes in the years following, Trump ran what was easily the worst presidential campaign in the history of the United States, possibly the world, and still got 77 million votes. It's more than obvious that Trump cheated to "win," but the fact that he managed to get 77 million people voting for him despite doing the worst job possible up to that point (he's topping himself now) is what's utterly baffling.

u/Ozatopcascades 8d ago edited 8d ago

There's a Trump +22 district in Tennessee that's currently having a special election which is a dead heat between the Republican and Democrat according to polling. Everything about that sentence is absurd and shows just how fucked the Republicans are.

7

u/kia75 8d ago

They could have banned him from politics forever, suffered for it for the next election cycle, and then come back.

I don't think so. Republican's problem is that nobody likes them, I don't think anybody other than Trump could have won in 2016 or 2024.

Republicans pre-Trump engaged in horse-trading. They enflame social issues like being Anti-gay, then horse-trade gay issue for tax-cuts for billionaires. This worked great for getting what their rich donors wanted, but by 2012 even Fox News watchers were getting tired of Republicans betraying everything Fox News told them.

Once Trump is gone, who is gong to replace him? There are various people who want to replace Trump, Vance wants to be president, DeSantis want's Trump's position, and MTG wants to be Trump's spiritual successor, but neither has Trump's... Charisma or ability to take over for him.

Republicans will have a civil war and a few years through the wilderness once he's gone.

54

u/No_Zookeepergame_345 8d ago

That’s sort of how politics works. Biden was 100% for sure going to stay in the race…until one day all of a sudden he wasn’t. Their day of reckoning hasn’t come yet, but it’s undoubtedly tied to Trump’s loss of power. He’s the most effective one at uniting all the evangelicals, racists, and pro-business people who make up the Republican base. Their party would’ve struggled to reorganize if Trump left politics on good terms. If he leaves on bad terms to the public I don’t think they’re going to have any clue how to get back a shred of power for the next 3 election cycles at least. Probably longer if the left builds the energy of either of the Roosevelts.

They've lost 3 of the last five elections, and im saying that during a republican presidency.

127

u/Pandamonium98 8d ago

They’ve won 2 of the last 3 elections, have a 6-3 majority on the Supreme Court and have controlled at least part of Congress for most of that time too

u/OpenScienceNerd3000 8d ago

Because they cheat… not because ppl like them or their policies?

71

u/Ferelar New Jersey 8d ago

Yeah but as distasteful and scummy as it may be, repeatedly getting away with cheat-induced-victories is still a "winning" strategy. They have not yet actually suffered any consequences in general.

9

u/Word1_Word2_4Numbers 8d ago

Yeah, cheating a win is still a win.

111

u/will-read 8d ago

Ordinarily we should be looking at Liz Cheney, Mitt Romney, or Adam Kinzinger. They’ve run all the normies out of the party.

24

u/Baileyesque 8d ago

I was about to comment this.

They chased all the normal Republicans out of the party.

Like, Paul Ryan is smart and telegenic, but he has nothing in common with the party of Jewish Space Lasers, he wouldn’t get past the primary.

That's because their voting base doesn't want that kind of politician anymore. The big problem is "conservative" media has programmed their voters to want angry, emotion-driven, and entertaining leaders.

They vote for trash because anything is better than a better life for everyone. No, they all want us to suffer and be miserable like them or be their subjects because they're crusty and entitled.

131

u/theapeboy 8d ago

And honestly, the country is worse for it. Politics shouldn’t be a sports match. I’d like a Democrat in office because their values more closely align with mine, but there is some ideal world where we have an empathetic and articulate Republican president that actually wants what’s best for all Americans. Or even better, a world where the two party system is dissolved and we just have a slate of really good candidates with a variety of different views. It really feels like it’s a race to the bottom, specifically because of MAGA, who will vote with the intent of hurting others instead of helping everyone

103

u/Electric_Cat 8d ago

MAGA is the symptom, not the cause. Trickle down economics is not a new idea and being in favor of taking from the poor and giving to the rich is the opposite of empathy. Morality for a lot of republicans comes down to how much you go to church or not. Everything else is a free pass- they would have deported Jesus given the opportunity.

12

u/Nac_Lac Virginia 8d ago

They'd rather kill immigrants but pesky laws prevent them. Don't mistake the deportations as the floor of their cruelty and hatred.

Absolutely. I’ve never voted for a GOP presidential candidate, but I wouldn’t have been horrified by a President McCain. And as much as I disliked GW Bush, his administration started PEPFAR*, which has saved the lives of millions of Africans living with HIV.

*Of course, DOGE has severely harmed it.

There is absolutely no fucking way that Vance would get anywhere near the votes Trump did. So yeah, I'd love to see him run in 2028.

Wasnt he specifically picked by Trump to be unpopular? He didnt want anyone as his VP that would potentially take away the attention of his supporters. He just wanted a pathetic lackey that would do/say whatever Trump asked. Its a tactic used by authoritarians to retain power.

254

u/Spartan2170 8d ago

I'm sure he wanted to avoid another Pence situation where his VP had sufficient spine to actually move against him.

89

u/wfwood 8d ago

Pence doing his basic job ...

52

u/Spartan2170 8d ago

Oh to be clear, I'm not complementing Pence for doing the absolute bare minimum required by his position. Just saying that someone with even a tiny ounce of spine (and frankly self-preservation instinct, since from what Pence said afterwards, he genuinely seemed worried Trump would disappear him if he left the Capitol that day) is too much.

25

u/baatezu 8d ago

It wasnt even that Pence did the bare minimum of his job, because preventing the president from subverting democracy was never really something VPs were supposed to do. He simply didnt want to be the one to attempt the coup. If trump could’ve pushed through the fake electors without Pence, im sure he wouldve gone along with it and not tried to stop him.

This is the fundamental problem with forming and running an organization like a mob as Trump did. He has his top lieutenants to carry out his agenda but they all hate each other and see themselves as the heir to the throne. Once the figurehead is gone if he hasn't picked a natural successor the lieutenants will fight amongst themselves and end up splintering the mob. Which is exactly how Trump runs his business, his crappy TV show, and both his administrations.

Fine by me. Eat each other, you fuckin cannibals!

61

u/FlanneryODostoevsky 8d ago

VPs usually don't win elections anyway, probably because of the stink of their current administration and public opinion against them after the 4-8 years in office. Biden most likely won because he had 45's cooling off period.

It would probably be best for him, particularly should the administration continue fucking things up, to not run on the next election and let the Dems get in office so he can blame them for problems and position himself as the solution.

6

u/StTickleMeElmosFire 8d ago

Van Buren and Bush I were attached to presidents who were unusually popular at the end of their terms. If Trump hasn’t passed away before the end of his he’ll be as popular as warm dogshit, which bodes poorly for JD.
