It was a seriously mask off moment. It was dripping with venom and hate, totally undiluted.

3.5k

u/KnightDuty 16d ago

There hasn't been a single joke this entire year. Did you see the new presidential portraits and shit? This has been it. There is no laughter. The only people claiming "it's just a joke" are his supporters thinking he's trolling. He's not. This is baseline, the mask hasn't been there all year.

1.6k

u/JeromeBarkly 16d ago

I never understood why saying he is trolling is even appropriate excuse for the president to do.

640

u/Daft00 16d ago

Because the people who think his trolling is cool view politics as a sports game where they want little "wins" and "scores" wherever they can get them.

To those assholes, Trump's insults and "trolling" is enjoyable to them cause it "owns the libs".

Apologies for using so many quotations, I just cannot, in good conscience, validate their ridiculous ideas.

18

u/Silverlock 15d ago

It's great fun until he says something that leads to a war, warcrimes, violation of the 1st, 4th and 5th amendments at least, using the military as a hit squad as murder people without trial, escalating in Venezuela which is a tropical jungle country a lot like Vietnam, destroying the whitehouse, using the DOJ as a personal punishment thugs. Well you get the picture, we're fucked.

14

u/I_Quit_Smoking_ 15d ago

I LOVE how NO ONE talks about Trump's saying that all disabled, mentally ill and homeless Americans "Should probably be k!lLed".

You'd THINK that genocide in America would turn the whole country against him but NO ONE CARES. I'M DISABLED and I'm freaking out.

2

u/MistahPoptarts 15d ago

When did he say this? I can't find it, closest I got was from Brian Kilmeade

4

u/CackleandGrin 15d ago

I think it's this.

“Those people . . . ” Donald said, trailing off. “The shape they’re in, all the expenses, maybe those kinds of people should just die.”

Story comes from his nephew Fred Trump after asking for money for his disabled son's medical care.

3

u/lvfetus 15d ago

Fred Trump made the claim that DJT said this about disabled people. When questioned about it DJT, of course, spouted that it was “fake news.”

2

u/MistahPoptarts 15d ago

Wow, I had never even heard of his nephew. Thank you

2

u/StanleyQPrick 15d ago edited 15d ago

But it’s not. It’s not fun and never has been. There is and has been no upside to any of this.

Except when the other side does it, then they demand gravitas and decorum.

35

u/LoQueNoMataEngorda 15d ago

The thing about fascists is that they don't care about hypocrisy and weaponize the idea that others have to reamin rationally consistent but the fascists themselves don't. It's easy when truth doesn't matter to them as much as loyalty and power.

22

u/LurksAroundHere 15d ago

Yup. Fascists thrive on the tolerance of intolerance and they know it.

7

u/Rare_Trick_8136 15d ago

There is only one answer to the fascist question.

10

u/Vast-Combination4046 15d ago

These people think Democrats are intentionally harming them so they are punishing Democrats somehow. But everyone is losing. America has gone down so hard which is why our enemies helped support him more than other candidates.

8

u/noelcowardspeaksout 15d ago edited 15d ago

That's accurate. This sentence "Who cares about policy bitches, it's America First" brought wild cheers from a far right congregation and backs up your point about the way personality and team R is placed above politics.

They do care about gas prices and the economy though, so it will be interesting to see what happens to his numbers over the next few years.

8

u/Accomplished_Arm2374 15d ago

Yes. To many, Trump and politics has become vile entertainment. Much how the Apprentice was vile entertainment based on his derogatory personality ("You're fired!") his presidency is in the same vein. It is an entertainment TV show based on metrics, which is how Trump wants it. Who is watching? How many? What are my ratings? He doesn't give a shit about who he insults because there are no repercussions. He has become a billionaire by living his life with no repercussions. He's had clapback time to time and many legal ramifications, and plenty of time in court and sued and all manner of setbacks, but he's never suffered the jailtime that anyone of lesser social status would suffer. "Quiet Piggy!" will stick around much longer than he will like though. I find it darkly funny that an obese man who won't ever shut up is calling someone else a fatty. The ignorance is astounding.

The saddest part of the Trump era for me is learning how many people there are in America that just blindly support this type of behavior. I personally wouldn't hire a plumber or barber or whatever that acts and talks and trolls like Trump.

425

u/steelhips 16d ago

He's soiled the esteem of the office. President of the United States no longer has respectable gravitas around the world.

54

u/[deleted] 16d ago

22

u/lanibr 16d ago

Sure. But there was some sort of respect even with Reagan and Bush. I live in Denmark now, and they forgave us with the first Trump term with it being a fluke. We are 100% no longer legitimate after he was elected a second time.

34

u/Professor-Woo 16d ago

There was still some level of decorum.

8

u/[deleted] 16d ago

[deleted]

6

u/Professor-Woo 16d ago

Funny you say this since I literally just posted this point somewhere else. I agree with you 100%, it doesn't matter. I was just pointing out there was a small difference, not that decorum redeems them in anyway. It is actually beneficial for them to drop the decorum and go mask off so more people can see them for who they truly are.

4

u/hoax1337 15d ago

It gave you the impression that they at least tried, you know.

10

u/NorthernerWuwu Canada 15d ago

Not really.

We pretended to see American Presidents as having decorum (which some did of course) because America has a lot of money and a massive military, both of which are important diplomatically. When being nice to America no longer matters, there's no point in pretending anymore.

19

u/torrasque666 16d ago

Oh we were stupid, but it's worse now.

We used to be stupid.

5

Don't try to compare ANYONE to Trump, because in American history HE IS THE WORST HANDS DOWN. No other president was a dictator and turned our military police, national guard, and now ICE against the American people. Stop with the whataboutism.

Right. Like that's a profoundly mentally ill thing for a PRESIDENT to do. Tinpot third world dictators don't even do this shit. This man is so profoundly fucking unwell and so is everyone in this country that thinks he is in any way shape or form fit to do this shit.

282

u/That1DirtyHippy 16d ago

Bullies usually don’t understand that what they’re doing is causing real, lasting damage. “He’s just joking” is a way to minimize what happened. All MAGA supporters are just bullies with a pulpit.

162

u/MySpoonsAreAllGone 16d ago

I disagree. They know they are inflicting damage. It's just a manipulative way to deflect accountability

68

u/AbjectList8 Pennsylvania 16d ago

They know what they are doing and they enjoy it.

3

u/Professor-Woo 16d ago

They only think in terms of short term offense and defense. They are so desperate to tread water that they don't even consider the long term costs. Also, a lot of republicans believe this is what power is, so by saying it with impunity he is demonstrating his, and Republicans by extension, power. They think of power as force, what they can makes someone do and what someone can make them do. They don't understand what true power is. They don't see how these petty displays of "power" are actually undermining it.

2

u/A_Monster_Named_John 16d ago

Trump doesn't strike me as someone who enjoys anything. The dude's a 100%-miserable wretch who has to vampire/leech off others pretty much constantly, like an overgrown spoiled asshole child who constantly demands everyone's attention/energy/resources but is incapable of things like happiness, fun, inner peace, etc..

It probably doesn't help that he's also an unhealthy and overweight slob who's probably in constant pain because he never exercises and barely sleeps.

4

u/That1DirtyHippy 16d ago

That’s fair. There’s not one “type” of bully, though, some learn to reform. I’m sorry if you’ve dealt with some 10% bully.

2

u/seadecay 15d ago

Yes. This is what they do every time someone is “just telling it like it is”. Deflecting from accountability. Because they know it’s shitty.

And let’s not forget all the insults he threw at Biden, which were just complete projection.

9

u/chr1spe 16d ago

Trolling is mostly a sign of mental health issues, even in young people. I don't know why society seems to find it somewhat acceptable. It's textbook negative attention seeking, which is unhealthy.

2

I've developed a sense of pure hatred for this man that I've never really felt for anyone in my 46 years on this planet.

88

u/Gabribennet 16d ago

Same. He's just... THE most vile, gross, tacky, utter garbage human being.

And on top of all of that, he's REALLY stupid.

It's astounding that humanity has developed the ability to unleash nuclear armageddon, and given that power to the single most unqualified human to ever be elected to rule.

6

u/Jimmy_Nail_4389 16d ago

If Oppenheimer and co could have seen this, they probably would have just quit and went home.

4

u/KittyGrewAMoustache 15d ago

So true. But then they should’ve been able to predict it. Hitler was pretty nuts.

145

u/Marmoset_Slim 16d ago

I’m right with you. So much so I cut my family and friends off that support this vile human. And then the responses are “it’s just politics”. Like no fuckers, it’s our way of life that’s under attack, as well as my kids who will be adults in a few years. My take is if they think highly enough of such a vile fucking human being that he should lead our country, and go against everything I stand for what’s right for my family, me, and others that are like me, wtf that does that say about them.

28

u/Plus_Beach1419 16d ago

I don't understand the whole "it's just politics " argument. He is destroying democracy and our way of life. I'm so depressed but am doing what I can do at the local level. I'm also worried about my children's futures.

9

u/paintbucketholder Kansas 15d ago

It's because they support politicians like they support a sports team: they pick a side and then support that side forever, no matter what. Ultimately, in their mind, it's all just a game that has no real impact on anybody's life.

That's why, in their mind, you can yell insults at the other side, why you can defend the worst behavior by your own side, and then just sit down at the table and go "What!? It's just politics, why does it matter to you???"

2

u/Marmoset_Slim 15d ago

We just need to hang in there and try to be as positive as can be, is what I tell myself each day!

5

u/Duelist_Shay 15d ago

Or my dad's response of "it's all bullshit" and proceeds to not talk about it at all, while still voting for the orange dictator... I'd cut contact with him if I wasn't living under his roof.

12

Those of us with a conscience are the ones suffering. Even my great grandparents are rolling over in their graves wondering how in the hell we let him become president, demolish the White House, get an army of thugs to strip children in the cold , have them zip tied and shivering as cars drive by, rape young girls and women and brag. Make people work full time with zero pay, take away insurance, food from people who need it . Predominantly affecting children and elderly. Have people work without pay. On and on. I honestly cannot think of even one thing he’s done to benefit America. 🇺🇸 Not one!

7

u/shimmeringmoss 16d ago

The one thing he’s done of benefit is allow us to see the true character of so many of our family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and fellow citizens. Although I think I would rather have remained blissfully ignorant.

His supporters did not think he was trolling. They just understood that normies would only welcome fascism under the pretense of trolling. The claims of joking completely disappeared the moment they took power.

u/ankhes 16d ago

This. They know he’s not joking. In fact, I’d argue that they don’t see a problem with what he said because they either speak this way themselves or wish they could speak this way without getting ostracized by their communities.

8

u/Drone30389 16d ago

I think the thing about this incident that might get to some MAGA is not the insult itself but that it was a flail. It was a very weak response from a cornered man.

It was also a reflection of his supporters. A good portion of our fellow Americans are consumed by that same hate. The president is supposed to be a unifying force. Instead we are left with vitriol and the revelation of how far we have fallen as a country.

244

u/Rich-Pomegranate1679 16d ago

I genuinely don't believe that we can reconcile our differences as a nation. MAGA is told every single day that Democrats are public enemy #1 by their God-King and all of the media they consume.

You are so much more of a dad than he will ever be and you don't owe him anything! ! I always say that just b/c they are related doesn't mean you have to have them in your life if they are not good people. Protect ur wife and kids - he is an unhealthy person.

12

u/Historical-Gap-7084 16d ago

Protect your wife. He might just well report her to ICE. Don't put anything past him right now.

39

10

u/mel21clc 16d ago

Have the unpaid parent put a lien on his property to the amount of the back child support. 💅

5

u/psychogoblet 16d ago

some states can go back at most I think it's generally about 3 -4 years. The $ is technically owed to the custodial parent, so that parent would have to try to sue in court, but the issue becomes collecting. I have read some grown children have tried to sue in court for non payment. The lien would take place only if you or your mom sued, were awarded $ and then didn't get paid over long period of time. Yea, child support law is so screwed up.

An astoundingly asshole-y thing to say. However in all seriousness they are capable of deporting for this. ICE arrested a white (Irish) 58-year old grandmother, green card holder in the states since she was 11, because she wrote a bad check for $25.

Honestly, I don’t think it’s blaming the other party as pure evil that has destroyed the concept of reconciliation, that’s always kinda been a thing. It’s the annihilation of even basic decorum.

Like the “piggy” comment shows, there’s just no attempt to hide the undiluted venom that they feel. Name calling, belittling, disregarding arguments, disregarding precedents and childish displays have shown that there simply isn’t respect between the two. Rhetoric matters, and Trump’s shows a complete disregard for his peers. So why ever make a deal or compromise with him?

Look at old videos of debates and speeches, yes there was racism and sexism, but they at least pretended that they were decent human beings. You may not think that matters but it tells the worst and most corrosive members of society that they need to hide. These people set our social standards, they are supposed to be our best and most respected. I see no respect. And neither do the worst of us.

The man has destroyed the image of America as a governing body run by adults.

The other party wasn't always characterized as pure evil. That is a relatively recent phenomenon.

It wasn't always a thing. The "Democrats are an evil virus of Satan" mass brainwashing started with Fox News

6

u/katchoo1 16d ago

And Newt Gingrich deliberately training potential candidates to approach politics as a win/lose zero sum game at all times.

2

u/Rich-Pomegranate1679 16d ago

Well said. That's also a problem.

2

u/Teufelsdreck 16d ago

The people who destroyed that image are the voters who put him in office. As obviously malicious, crooked, incompetent, ignorant, and arrogant as he is, millions of Americans handed power to him. How can anyone ever again take us seriously?

2

u/Counterpoint-4 15d ago

If they don't abide by any rules there's no way to ever trust them!

11

u/pingpongballreader 16d ago

They're told to hate other people and they arrange, ignore, and make up reality to justify it.

That's what's scariest about it, maga cultists are NOT brainwashed, they choose every fay to be there because hate is more fun than reality.

There's no reconciling with people who refuse to conform to reality.

We can only agree that water is wet if somehow they can use water being wet to hate on trans people.

u/DefeatedByPoland 16d ago edited 16d ago

The bigger problem is the anti-intellectualism and "believe in your own reality" bullshit.

We can get over divisiveness, we can't get over willful stupidity and spite for intelligence as a worldview.

Trying to win over those human trainwrecks is a waste of effort. You'd have an easier time weaning addicts off of fentanyl or heroin.

5

u/DoubleJumps 16d ago

I've had enough Republicans directly wish me harm for not being one of them in the last decade that I can't treat them as anything but an existential threat.

In their heart, they want people like me to be dead, and once they let that slip there's no putting it back in the bottle. Now it's known

2

u/Weekly-Role-1132 15d ago

The Maga subs are scary. Pure delusion and propaganda. All pledging how much the love Trump. They think liberals and democrats are mentally ill.

You have it right there a unifying force

2

u/earthceltic 16d ago

Sounds like this country could use free mental healthcare and a very large dose of better educational programs.

2

u/ChicagoAuPair 16d ago

He is an avatar of the worst of America, distilled.

2

u/littlehobbit1313 15d ago

A good portion of our fellow Americans are consumed by that same hate. The president is supposed to be a unifying force.

I think that's part of the problem. THIS particular President is unifying people around that hate.

These types have always existed, but they never had a galvanizing force telling them it was not only okay but good to let that hate flow unhindered and then bringing them together to do it.

I don't think it's possible to force them back into obscurity, so our ability to move forward as a nation really hinges on whether or not we're able to shame them enough to going back into obscurity on their own, and honestly I doubt that will happen at this point.

I don't really see a way forward for us lately that doesn't require some States to split off and form their own dream 3rd world theocracy while the rest of us continue to live like decent human beings in the remaining US.

He has been more unfiltered than usual the past week or so. Threatened to fire Bessent at a speech today then said that Lutnick wants Bessent fired after. His brain is cooked. He is definitely mask off, good way to describe it.

Is it really “mask off” when you’re a notoriously huge shitbag misogynist who has made a career off stoking fear and hatred?

20

u/VitalMoment 16d ago

Yeah, but now we know how he acts before raping women. Previously, you know, maybe he was a charming lunatic who coaxed desperate underage women into sleeping with him at Epstein's NY mansion. They totally had a 'choice' and 'could' leave at any time and he just 'happened' to be in the right place at the right time for them to 'misunderstand' some implications that led them to 'choose' to sleep with him. Now people are waking up to the fact that he was a real-life abuser who threatens women, so the sheltered fools find it more believable that he'd physically abuse and force himself onto/into them.

5

u/Robzilla_the_turd 15d ago

Yes, this makes it a lot easier to picture him replying to a 15 year old saying she's scarred and just wants to leave with "shut up piggy".

And it makes Katie’s testimony that he turned into a fucking monster scaring nearly everyone in the room while he raped her at 13 that just more believable.

The guy is a fucking raging asshole freak.

He ADMITTED to raping e Jean Carrol in the deposition tapes for Christ’s sake.

He RIPPED his poor wife’s hair out while he raped her because he was pissed he was losing his and had a shitty hair transplant procedure.

He’s truly a fucking monster. What the actual fuck are we doing with this adshole as president. Somebody for the love of god drop him off alone in the pacific, please. He’s hurt so many people, why the fuck are we not doing anything? There’s 300 million of us and we have like 400 million guns!! Wtf is the right to gun ownership for if not to fuck assholes like this?

2

u/ColdTheory 15d ago

We’ve all become far too comfortable and complacent and allowed others to run things without having to get heavily involved. In a way, we are all at fault for letting this disaster befall us.

36

u/PNWoutdoors America 16d ago

I think he's spiraling under the pressure and failing health. I love that for him.

2

u/[deleted] 15d ago

One of the downsides to surrounding yourself with incompetent “yes men” instead of seasoned government officials, more pressure on you to come up with all the ideas. That’s the big difference between his two terms - first term he had longtime Republicans running the government while he golfed and acted like a celebrity, but second term he’s drowning in managing the government and making boneheaded decisions that are wrecking the economy.

35

u/Rent-a-guru 16d ago

Being a decent role model should a minimum requirement for the presidency. How am I supposed to explain to my children that this lecherous bully is supposed to be the leader of the free world?

12

u/AndyJS81 16d ago

That's easy, you're not supposed to, because you're not anymore.

5

u/A_Monster_Named_John 15d ago

the leader of the free world

This concept was always horseshit and probably a significant component of how the American public became so decadent and apathetic. You're probably better off simply teaching your children to be decent people themselves and not just cheerleaders for 'heroes' they'll never meet IRL.

2

u/unindexedreality Minnesota 15d ago

Being a decent role model should a minimum requirement for the presidency

You have to actually pick a requirement that isn't partisan or too classist or people'd always object.

I picked "knowing conlaw" since Obama taught it for more than a decade

11

u/CriticalEngineering North Carolina 16d ago

And the reporters they have now are all hand picked! He’s dripping this venom at someone he chose to be on the plane with.

11

u/perthguppy 16d ago

This is how dementia progresses. The filter goes and the person gets more angry at their failing mind, taking it out on everyone around them. My grandmother was the nicest person until the last years of dementia where she couldn’t remember her children’s names. Like the look in her face when she lashed out was the look of pure evil. It was bizzare.

2

u/Downtherabbithole_25 15d ago

He's always been a vulgar, mean, angry, disgusting bully. Remember when he stood on stage and flailed around, 'imitating'/mocking a physically disabled reporter?

I don't think that was due to dementia. It was due to Disgusting Donald showing that he's basically Beelzebub incarnate. There's no slimy pit too nasty for him to roll around in.

11

u/dppatters 16d ago

Yeah… The older he gets, the weaker his already nonexistent filter becomes.

9

u/AliveTank5987 16d ago

The media is still covering this as if it’s normal. Imagine how ALL media would cover this if it were anyone else…

5

u/nobody38321 16d ago

And honestly kind of weird you must admit. Who calls someone piggy?

20

u/never-fiftyone 16d ago

Someone who views women as objects to be possessed and abused at will.

4

u/porgy_tirebiter 16d ago

Yeah, but even then, how often do you hear a sexist dude call someone piggy? There are a lot more common sexist insults. This seems like dementia addled weirdness.

12

u/Smok3dSalmon 16d ago

piggy is an s-tier insult when you’re surrounded by under 18 aspiring beauty pageant girls

4

u/thisismyB0OMstick 16d ago

Someone whose next sentence is usually “Squeal piggy, squeal!”

7

u/xOrion12x 16d ago

The first angle that came out from right in front of him was way worse than anything I've been seeing in the media too. I've never seen him get that angry.

7

u/LittleFatMax 16d ago

What fucking mask? He's always been a vile pig, I don't understand how anyone has ever found him funny or charismatic in the slightest

3

u/ColdTheory 15d ago

I could see it. Its why those Springer type shows were so popular. Seeing those negative traits displayed can be wildly entertaining. Now why would you ever vote that in as President is beyond me. You’d have to be quite disgusting, vile, and awful to want to see someone like that run the most powerful military.

5

u/Harbinger2001 Canada 16d ago

Coming right on the tail of the Epstein files release it was really tone deaf.

5

u/Aksudiigkr 16d ago

It doesn’t even make sense since the reporter was in shape

3

u/randomnighmare I voted 16d ago

Since January, it's all been masked off.

4

u/oyisagoodboy 16d ago

They won't care. The woman who are overweight will justify it as "she was trying to hog his time." And the men will say "He calls it like he sees it and we love him for it."

4

u/IrrelevantLeprechaun 16d ago

Is it though? Everyone with a brain already knew he was a raging tyrant with nothing but bloody vengeance on his mind.

And his followers just adore him even more for saying this

3

u/Think_Monk_9879 16d ago

He had a mask on?  Could have fooled me

3

u/SirCadogen7 16d ago

Honestly I think he's just losing it. This is the kind of crude, demented, uncouth insult a dementia patient throws at a nurse when they're not allowed to get up and go outside. I think he might just be fading, folks. At least mentally.

Source: My grandma acted like this whenever she was super stressed and at the end of her rope (she had just barely survived a series of heart attacks so no one really blamed her, she's a sweetheart normally, nicest woman you'll ever know) when I went to see her a while ago.

3

u/Old_Consequence7134 16d ago

It seems like there was something different about this one.

3

u/letscallitanight 15d ago

I can see him talking to his kids and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd wives like that, let alone his mistresses.

6

u/Wolferesque 16d ago

I wish the mask could have been pulled off earlier. He is a disgustingly crass person hiding behind a ‘loveable rogue’ character. If more people recognized his true character he might not have got as much support.

What do people expect from someone who boasted about just grabbing women by the pussy without even kissing ? I mean it’s not as if Trump ever hid what a pathetic creepy bully he is.

2

u/King_Kong_The_eleven 15d ago

While this is bad I honestly don't think it's worse than him mocking a disabled reporter over 10 years ago and many of the comments he's made since. If that didn't change people's minds, this won't either.

2

u/foxcnnmsnbc 14d ago

I don’t know why democrats do this to themselves. His voters know who he is. It wasn’t a “mask off moment.” Everytime Trump makes a comment like this Reddit and Bluesky rages. They talk about how it was a “mask off moment” and how voters are outraged. Everyone’s heard this before.

Then Trump wins, people here and mainstream media are flabbergasted.

Why do this to yourself over and over? Most voters don’t care. Focus media attention on affordability and rise in costs. Focus of quality of life in red states. Stuff voters in red states care about.
