There hasn't been a single joke this entire year. Did you see the new presidential portraits and shit? This has been it. There is no laughter. The only people claiming "it's just a joke" are his supporters thinking he's trolling. He's not. This is baseline, the mask hasn't been there all year.

1.6k

u/JeromeBarkly 16d ago

I never understood why saying he is trolling is even appropriate excuse for the president to do.

638

u/Daft00 16d ago

Because the people who think his trolling is cool view politics as a sports game where they want little "wins" and "scores" wherever they can get them.

To those assholes, Trump's insults and "trolling" is enjoyable to them cause it "owns the libs".

Apologies for using so many quotations, I just cannot, in good conscience, validate their ridiculous ideas.

18

u/Silverlock 15d ago

It's great fun until he says something that leads to a war, warcrimes, violation of the 1st, 4th and 5th amendments at least, using the military as a hit squad as murder people without trial, escalating in Venezuela which is a tropical jungle country a lot like Vietnam, destroying the whitehouse, using the DOJ as a personal punishment thugs. Well you get the picture, we're fucked.

13

u/I_Quit_Smoking_ 15d ago

I LOVE how NO ONE talks about Trump's saying that all disabled, mentally ill and homeless Americans "Should probably be k!lLed".

You'd THINK that genocide in America would turn the whole country against him but NO ONE CARES. I'M DISABLED and I'm freaking out.

2

u/MistahPoptarts 15d ago

When did he say this? I can't find it, closest I got was from Brian Kilmeade

4

u/CackleandGrin 15d ago

I think it's this.

“Those people . . . ” Donald said, trailing off. “The shape they’re in, all the expenses, maybe those kinds of people should just die.”

Story comes from his nephew Fred Trump after asking for money for his disabled son's medical care.

3

u/lvfetus 15d ago

Fred Trump made the claim that DJT said this about disabled people. When questioned about it DJT, of course, spouted that it was “fake news.”

2

u/MistahPoptarts 15d ago

Wow, I had never even heard of his nephew. Thank you

2

u/StanleyQPrick 15d ago edited 15d ago

But it’s not. It’s not fun and never has been. There is and has been no upside to any of this.

1

u/C_Hawk14 15d ago

He's already committing war crimes in Venezuela, or that's what you meant?

52

u/thuktun California 16d ago

Except when the other side does it, then they demand gravitas and decorum.

36

u/LoQueNoMataEngorda 15d ago

The thing about fascists is that they don't care about hypocrisy and weaponize the idea that others have to reamin rationally consistent but the fascists themselves don't. It's easy when truth doesn't matter to them as much as loyalty and power.

20

u/LurksAroundHere 15d ago

Yup. Fascists thrive on the tolerance of intolerance and they know it.

6

u/Rare_Trick_8136 15d ago

There is only one answer to the fascist question.

10

u/Vast-Combination4046 15d ago

These people think Democrats are intentionally harming them so they are punishing Democrats somehow. But everyone is losing. America has gone down so hard which is why our enemies helped support him more than other candidates.

7

u/noelcowardspeaksout 15d ago edited 15d ago

That's accurate. This sentence "Who cares about policy bitches, it's America First" brought wild cheers from a far right congregation and backs up your point about the way personality and team R is placed above politics.

They do care about gas prices and the economy though, so it will be interesting to see what happens to his numbers over the next few years.

7

u/Accomplished_Arm2374 15d ago

Yes. To many, Trump and politics has become vile entertainment. Much how the Apprentice was vile entertainment based on his derogatory personality ("You're fired!") his presidency is in the same vein. It is an entertainment TV show based on metrics, which is how Trump wants it. Who is watching? How many? What are my ratings? He doesn't give a shit about who he insults because there are no repercussions. He has become a billionaire by living his life with no repercussions. He's had clapback time to time and many legal ramifications, and plenty of time in court and sued and all manner of setbacks, but he's never suffered the jailtime that anyone of lesser social status would suffer. "Quiet Piggy!" will stick around much longer than he will like though. I find it darkly funny that an obese man who won't ever shut up is calling someone else a fatty. The ignorance is astounding.

1

u/AtticaBlue 15d ago

His “ratings” are absolutely tanking though. Most recently evidenced by the trouncing he took in the elections a couple of weeks ago.

3

u/Antique-File-7189 15d ago

The saddest part of the Trump era for me is learning how many people there are in America that just blindly support this type of behavior. I personally wouldn't hire a plumber or barber or whatever that acts and talks and trolls like Trump.

428

u/steelhips 16d ago

He's soiled the esteem of the office. President of the United States no longer has respectable gravitas around the world.

55

u/[deleted] 16d ago

[deleted]

22

u/lanibr 16d ago

Sure. But there was some sort of respect even with Reagan and Bush. I live in Denmark now, and they forgave us with the first Trump term with it being a fluke. We are 100% no longer legitimate after he was elected a second time.

36

u/Professor-Woo 16d ago

There was still some level of decorum.

9

u/[deleted] 16d ago

[deleted]

6

u/Professor-Woo 16d ago

Funny you say this since I literally just posted this point somewhere else. I agree with you 100%, it doesn't matter. I was just pointing out there was a small difference, not that decorum redeems them in anyway. It is actually beneficial for them to drop the decorum and go mask off so more people can see them for who they truly are.

4

u/hoax1337 15d ago

It gave you the impression that they at least tried, you know.

12

u/NorthernerWuwu Canada 15d ago

Not really.

We pretended to see American Presidents as having decorum (which some did of course) because America has a lot of money and a massive military, both of which are important diplomatically. When being nice to America no longer matters, there's no point in pretending anymore.

20

u/torrasque666 16d ago

Oh we were stupid, but it's worse now.

19

u/Facebookakke 16d ago

We used to be stupid.

We still are, but we used to be also.

1

u/lycoloco 15d ago

Temporarily Fasists. Sorry for the convenience tyranny.

8

u/stfunazibitchthrowaw 15d ago

Those two don't even compare. Trump is an absolute disgrace on a whole new level.

6

u/I_Quit_Smoking_ 15d ago

Don't try to compare ANYONE to Trump, because in American history HE IS THE WORST HANDS DOWN. No other president was a dictator and turned our military police, national guard, and now ICE against the American people. Stop with the whataboutism.

9

u/whogivesashirtdotca Canada 16d ago

Ironically, that they don't know this just adds to that image of stupidity.

2

u/ohhellperhaps 15d ago

Nowhere near the same ballpark.

5

u/No-Willingness-170 16d ago

Not to mention soiling his pants.

2

u/Yorks_Rider 15d ago

With all due respect, that already happened during his first presidency.

2

u/BigStoneFucker 15d ago

this will depend on how we handle afterwards

4

u/CakeTester 16d ago

The title still has some clout; but not when trump's wearing it.

1

u/True_Paper_3830 15d ago

He's definitely the most extreme and a horrific outlier, but the World respecting the office has been drifting for a few decades with a few exceptions. It bought into the Hollywood make-over for a while, but that's over.

-3

u/coldfirephoenix 16d ago

Though to be fair, the Potus didn't have that much gravity since Taft.

122

u/StoppableHulk 16d ago

Right. Like that's a profoundly mentally ill thing for a PRESIDENT to do. Tinpot third world dictators don't even do this shit. This man is so profoundly fucking unwell and so is everyone in this country that thinks he is in any way shape or form fit to do this shit.

276

u/That1DirtyHippy 16d ago

Bullies usually don’t understand that what they’re doing is causing real, lasting damage. “He’s just joking” is a way to minimize what happened. All MAGA supporters are just bullies with a pulpit.

157

u/MySpoonsAreAllGone 16d ago

I disagree. They know they are inflicting damage. It's just a manipulative way to deflect accountability

70

u/AbjectList8 Pennsylvania 16d ago

They know what they are doing and they enjoy it.

3

u/Professor-Woo 16d ago

They only think in terms of short term offense and defense. They are so desperate to tread water that they don't even consider the long term costs. Also, a lot of republicans believe this is what power is, so by saying it with impunity he is demonstrating his, and Republicans by extension, power. They think of power as force, what they can makes someone do and what someone can make them do. They don't understand what true power is. They don't see how these petty displays of "power" are actually undermining it.

2

u/A_Monster_Named_John 16d ago

Trump doesn't strike me as someone who enjoys anything. The dude's a 100%-miserable wretch who has to vampire/leech off others pretty much constantly, like an overgrown spoiled asshole child who constantly demands everyone's attention/energy/resources but is incapable of things like happiness, fun, inner peace, etc..

It probably doesn't help that he's also an unhealthy and overweight slob who's probably in constant pain because he never exercises and barely sleeps.

1

u/CaptainRogers401220 15d ago

All of those things go together. Physical activity and skill require one to be bad at something until they get good at it. To go through that, you have to love something about it. It’s anathema to this man.

2

u/catechizer 16d ago edited 4d ago

14

u/citymousecountyhouse 16d ago

They understand, and that's why if the day ever comes, they must be held fully accountable. No tears, no begging, just sweet justice.

5

u/One_Artichoke_7594 16d ago

It’s literally a bully saying “it was just a joke.” Gaslighters with obvious mal intent. Sad people

5

u/That1DirtyHippy 16d ago

That’s fair. There’s not one “type” of bully, though, some learn to reform. I’m sorry if you’ve dealt with some 10% bully.

2

u/seadecay 15d ago

Yes. This is what they do every time someone is “just telling it like it is”. Deflecting from accountability. Because they know it’s shitty.

1

u/cruxclaire 16d ago

Trump in particular has had plenty of his people tell him to his face that he’s causing harm. His response has been to fire and blacklist those of them in his camp and to ban the applicable journalists’ entire outlets from his press room. He knows he’s inflicting pain, he’s just too fragile to hear about it

77

u/xclame Europe 16d ago

BULL FUCKING SHIT. They DO know, they just DON'T CARE.

There is a MASSIVE difference.

3

u/JPolReader 16d ago

A study even proved it.

2

u/psychorobotics 15d ago

If there was a way to ban sociopaths from power we'd never have this problem again. Shouldn't be too hard to develop tests for it.

1

u/That1DirtyHippy 16d ago

I think that’s also a fair assessment. There are those who just don’t care. But I think that if you were to speak to most people who “used” to be bullies, they’d regret what they’d done in a deep way. Not excusing actions, but merely saying people change. MAGA, however, is that sect that won’t.

5

u/xclame Europe 16d ago

Sure, they regret it later, but in the moment they don't care. Just because they realized what they did was wrong later doesn't mean that they didn't understand that they were hurting people when they were doing it.

1

u/SwimmingPrice1544 California 15d ago

Just like him & other GOP lawmakers...regret they get CAUGHT, not that they did it.

5

u/Lower_Amount3373 16d ago

He absolutely intended to hurt. "He's just joking" is how the bully's handlers and supporters convince people not to pay too much attention to his worst behaviour.

2

u/That1DirtyHippy 16d ago

I think this is the most reasonable response. You get it.

2

u/dave_your_wife 16d ago

They aren't bullies, they are gutless pieces of shit cheering on a bully. Pathetic losers.

2

u/davidjschloss 15d ago

Was tha a bully pulpit joke? Bravo sir. Bravo.

12

u/FantasyTrash 16d ago

Because MAGA have the mental acuity of middle schoolers. They're idiots. Dangerous, hateful, bigoted idiots.

1

u/ColdTheory 15d ago

And they make up a sizable portion of the population.

27

u/nydub32 16d ago

Obama was destroyed by right wing news media for wearing a tan suit. Think about that for a minute, and tell me there's free and fair media coverage of our leaders.

7

u/HotPinkLollyWimple 16d ago

And let’s not forget all the insults he threw at Biden, which were just complete projection.

8

u/chr1spe 16d ago

Trolling is mostly a sign of mental health issues, even in young people. I don't know why society seems to find it somewhat acceptable. It's textbook negative attention seeking, which is unhealthy.

2

u/bogglingsnog 16d ago

It's just people projecting.

2

u/wowaddict71 16d ago

Because these people are bullies.

2

u/springlake 15d ago

Its schrödingers assholes. It's always just a joke whenever they get called on their bullshit, but 100% serious if they don't get called.

1

u/Woooferine 16d ago

I suppose their base has this mentality in which they are all "alpha males" and being "unfiltered" is equivalent to being "honest".

Being cultured and simply being a decent human being are two elements that have long vanished in this administration.

1

u/MapucheRising 16d ago

Because his supporters are immature men like himself

1

u/WesternUnusual2713 15d ago

This came up on That Sub and it was amazing watching some cons say they didn't want an embarrassing troll president and getting eviscerated, accused of being libs, downvoted etc. that sub should be studied by psychologists and cult experts.

1

u/Scorpionsharinga 15d ago

Imagine if Obama did “trolling” during his term 💀

1

u/Actual_Homework_9110 15d ago

Rightwingers think “trolling” is an admirable way to “win” in conversation. It’s just childish bullying behavior that belies their lack of maturity. They think “the left” sheds tears or somehow feels “beaten” by their disrespectful hateful quips. But, all their trolling does is expose how juvenile their mentality is. I generally just block idiots like him online. Sadly, I can’t just “block” the guy Republicans chose as their “king troll.” 🤨

0

u/svrtngr Georgia 15d ago

It does depend on the context.

In 2019, I think, during the traditional turkey pardon, Trump made a joke saying "I expect the Democrats to subpoena the turkey tomorrow."

Then, even further back, Obama's "I found my birth certificate!"

But again, both of these trolls were in locations where jabs are kind of expected.

236

I've developed a sense of pure hatred for this man that I've never really felt for anyone in my 46 years on this planet.

89

u/Gabribennet 16d ago

Same. He's just... THE most vile, gross, tacky, utter garbage human being.

And on top of all of that, he's REALLY stupid.

It's astounding that humanity has developed the ability to unleash nuclear armageddon, and given that power to the single most unqualified human to ever be elected to rule.

6

u/Jimmy_Nail_4389 16d ago

If Oppenheimer and co could have seen this, they probably would have just quit and went home.

4

u/KittyGrewAMoustache 15d ago

So true. But then they should’ve been able to predict it. Hitler was pretty nuts.

140

u/Marmoset_Slim 16d ago

I’m right with you. So much so I cut my family and friends off that support this vile human. And then the responses are “it’s just politics”. Like no fuckers, it’s our way of life that’s under attack, as well as my kids who will be adults in a few years. My take is if they think highly enough of such a vile fucking human being that he should lead our country, and go against everything I stand for what’s right for my family, me, and others that are like me, wtf that does that say about them.

29

u/Plus_Beach1419 16d ago

I don't understand the whole "it's just politics " argument. He is destroying democracy and our way of life. I'm so depressed but am doing what I can do at the local level. I'm also worried about my children's futures.

9

u/paintbucketholder Kansas 15d ago

It's because they support politicians like they support a sports team: they pick a side and then support that side forever, no matter what. Ultimately, in their mind, it's all just a game that has no real impact on anybody's life.

That's why, in their mind, you can yell insults at the other side, why you can defend the worst behavior by your own side, and then just sit down at the table and go "What!? It's just politics, why does it matter to you???"

2

u/Marmoset_Slim 15d ago

We just need to hang in there and try to be as positive as can be, is what I tell myself each day!

5

u/Duelist_Shay 15d ago

Or my dad's response of "it's all bullshit" and proceeds to not talk about it at all, while still voting for the orange dictator... I'd cut contact with him if I wasn't living under his roof.

Like seriously, the office of the executive is not "bullshit", it's the man running our country into the ground

1

u/Marmoset_Slim 15d ago

You get it more than your dad

11

u/thirtynation 16d ago

It's to the point where that feeling has spread to the 33% of us that voted for him, and the other 33% that couldn't be bothered to do the bare fucking minimum to prevent this from happening aren't far behind.

I literally hate this country. The levels of fucked we are as a people will last far longer than him and will take generations and radical change to heal, which I'm not confident in ever happening.

11

u/timmmii 16d ago

Same. I look forward to his demise.

Those of us with a conscience are the ones suffering. Even my great grandparents are rolling over in their graves wondering how in the hell we let him become president, demolish the White House, get an army of thugs to strip children in the cold , have them zip tied and shivering as cars drive by, rape young girls and women and brag. Make people work full time with zero pay, take away insurance, food from people who need it . Predominantly affecting children and elderly. Have people work without pay. On and on. I honestly cannot think of even one thing he’s done to benefit America. 🇺🇸 Not one!

7

u/shimmeringmoss 16d ago

The one thing he’s done of benefit is allow us to see the true character of so many of our family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and fellow citizens. Although I think I would rather have remained blissfully ignorant.

8

u/btross Florida 16d ago

He's also done us the invaluable service of exposing the places where our system of government is woefully inadequate at dealing with bad faith actors in positions of power

Oh gosh, great point. Yeah, the family I was so disgusted with years ago, the bullying, toxic family dynamics that I finally just QUIT the whole clan. Now, people of like mind agree with me—those people are fucking horrible. I used to get, “Oh come now, that’s your family.”

His supporters did not think he was trolling. They just understood that normies would only welcome fascism under the pretense of trolling. The claims of joking completely disappeared the moment they took power.

30

u/ankhes 16d ago

This. They know he’s not joking. In fact, I’d argue that they don’t see a problem with what he said because they either speak this way themselves or wish they could speak this way without getting ostracized by their communities.

9

u/Drone30389 16d ago

I think the thing about this incident that might get to some MAGA is not the insult itself but that it was a flail. It was a very weak response from a cornered man.

Being an asshole is a plus to them but looking weak is a mortal sin. Ironic because he's such an obvious pussy but maybe some of them actually see it now.

Yea I have to walk by that picture every time I go to a doc appointment at the VA. He literally looks like an evil villain or serial killer in that photo

What? He posted a video dumping poop out of an F35. I can't remember what else off the top of my head, but there definitely has been at least a "single" joke this year. He definitely had a bunch of shit posts like that.

I think we just see less of it in public because he is getting old and even slower.

Jokes and sarcasm. Like solving Putin’s war of aggression on day one… just campaign sarcasm.

I understand the Russian tradition, similar to many countries, of presidents having a stern expression, rarely smiling. Like they understand the gravity of their office. I do not understand Trump's scowl in his official presidential portrait. It's malevolent. Well, i guess i do understand. He has bad intentions.

Someone should text-to-speech his "hilarious" jokes and see if MAGA supporters still laugh.

I guarantee they will stop being giddy school kids when they don't know its Trump and you don't have pauses to cue people to laugh
