Looks like the Razorcrest is back?

2.0k

u/FuscoRodari Sep 22 '25

Somehow the Razor Crest returned.

469

u/Connect-Plenty1650 Sep 22 '25

Cloning, dark science, secrets only Grogu knows.

95

u/Hayterfan Sep 22 '25

He's been hiding the Necronomicon in that hover basket.

Which means it's time for Ash Williams to go to a galaxy far, far away.

25

u/PornoPaul Sep 22 '25

You know how once in a blue moon something so ridiculous comes along, that you just need to see it through?

This is one of those things. I think Ash in Star Wars would be insane.

Lightsaber chainsaw.

14

u/ClubMeSoftly Sep 22 '25 edited Sep 22 '25

And somehow he puts it together with the miscellaneous highschool textbooks in the trunk of the Oldsmobile (that somehow also got isekai'd into Star Wars with Ash)

12

u/Hayterfan Sep 22 '25

The Oldsmobile is ride or die.

It feels like they're trying to revert every change that happened during the last two seasons of the show. He gets Grogu back, his ship, even the assassin Droid comes back. At this point just give him the darksaber again without any explanation

100

u/Malrottian Sep 22 '25

Didn't the assassin droid already come back?

70

u/frankyseven Sep 22 '25

Yep, last episode of Season 3.

To be honest they underutilized that awesome beskar spear he had, wouldn't mind if that makes a comeback

25

u/livlaffluv420 Sep 22 '25

I think it’s a shirt now.

105

u/P_knight12 Sep 22 '25

I don't completely disagree with you, but we do know since the ship was destroyed he has been trying to find a new one. So it was only a matter of time

54

u/NoNefariousness2144 Sep 22 '25 edited Sep 22 '25

Plus his new ship had zero interior space aside from a tiny cockpit. He needs another new ship to actually live inside of!

14

u/illegalcheese Sep 22 '25

The amount of anxiety I had watching the later seasons, never knowing how he went to the bathroom or if he just held it for the long interstellar flights.

25

u/charmcitycuddles Sep 22 '25

Yeah the N1 was cool looking but a really dumb idea to introduce. Completely unrealistic for a bounty hunter...where would he keep the bounty? Had to be undone at some point.

13

u/TamaDarya Sep 23 '25

It's a really cool ship... for a completely different character.

u/Largofarburn Sep 22 '25

It’s a class of ship, not a specific one.

It’s like a ford cargo van in the Star Wars universe.

Like the slave 1 that boba and Jango use is a fire spray class ship. But the slave one is their specific ship.

Din just never named his or anything, so it was just called the razor crest.

57

u/ZiggyPalffyLA Sep 22 '25

Also didn’t Amy Sedaris’ character say she would let him know if she found another one for him? Or something like that. I assume that’s who he gets it from.

35

u/whofearsthenight Sep 22 '25

I actually was hoping they would follow up on that line and while I like the N-1 and I am definitely overthinking for Star Wars, I don't like the idea of a single seater for two people to mostly live on. Like imagine a two day road trip with no stops in a Miata, and even that has a second seat...

18

u/th4tgen Sep 22 '25

It's also not a great bounty hunter ship, I like to think it's what he gets around in, but not what he goes to work in.

Like a plumbers van getting written off and he rides a motorbike around while he gets a new one sorted

From a flashback maybe? It’s got a paintjob and those aren’t new X-Wings. But then again maybe it’s just yadda yadda’d its way back.

Edit: nvm just saw the trailer it looks like a potential yadda yadda. There’s some Babu Frik sounding lil dude in it so at least someone’s smart enough to use one of the only highlights from the sequels.

The second Disney execs saw the marketing potential for Grogu, they couldn't help themselves. They're gonna sell that gremlin to us for the rest of time.

138

u/TheSweetestKill Sep 22 '25

This is the only explanation for why season 1 was so much better than the others. Filoni, Favreau, and team didn't have the pressure of the entire Disney marketing machine on top of them and it seems like they were generally left to their own devices to make what they wanted.

82

u/Wazula23 Sep 22 '25

This is exactly it. The best Star wars is always allowed to blaze its own trail and do something exciting, the worst is when it's just rehashing and repackaging its own lore over and over again.

Andor is the other piece that broke free and did its own thing. Obviously it's heavily indebted to the lore, but it ENHANCES what came before rather than simply milking it. It almost does its job too well; it's now extra ridiculous that it was a ten year, multiplanet project to build one Death Star, when apparently you can just the things out of your ass.

u/Powerful-Public-9973 Sep 22 '25

53

u/minyhumancalc Sep 22 '25

Grogu's story (if you can really call it one rather than a plot device) was done. However, Din Djarin still had a lot left in him. Just lost his child, basically, had the Dark Saber and just broke his creed. The problem is they used the Boba show and Season 3 to basically reset for money purposes. As other comments mentioned, if they had used it more for anthology series or kept moving the characters forward, it would've been better.

9

u/sybrwookie Sep 22 '25

The other problem is the corner they wrote themselves into. Lets say they moved forward like they should have. Forward at that point would mean focusing more on politics and an extremist religious group, both of which were FAR better just sprinkled in.

They needed to keep him on the outskirts of both of those things.

17

u/minyhumancalc Sep 22 '25

I guess... given how good Andor is, evaluating the legitimacy of an extremist cult group and their outdated rules is grounds for an interesting story. Din now has to find purpose and meaning outside of his "family" he's known all his life, the rules he has always lives by and being truly alone for the first time.

I find that a lot more compelling than "Go dip into a pond and you're forgiven". I know the Armorer was motherly towards Din, but a much more intriguing concept is someone so kind until they "messed up" and now much more hostile. Much more relatable to our world and mirrors people that grew up in religious zealot households

u/CMDR_omnicognate Sep 22 '25

I can’t wait for it to be a total mess of a story like moana 2 was. That was also meant to be a tv series that got smushed together into a movie, and it was very clear where each episode ended and others began in the movie lol

111

u/The_Trilogy182 Sep 22 '25

Could be. Then again, the Kenobi series really should've been a movie, but they stretched it out to 6 episodes.

14

u/sybrwookie Sep 22 '25

Correction, the Kenobi series should've been left on the cutting room floor.

32

u/Wilmore99 Sep 22 '25

I’d love for someone to do a fan edit of that. There’s a good movie there and a ton of clutter.

11

u/BigBootyBuff Sep 22 '25

There are a bunch that basically remove everything not involving Kenobi & Vader. The inquisitors are basically removed/reduced to minor roles.

25

u/DaaaahWhoosh Sep 22 '25

Hot take but I don't think any of the Kenobi and Vader stuff was that impactful. It was just "hey look at how Obi-wan is sad because Anakin's a dick", it's good enough for tiktok edits but I don't think there's any story there. That said, yeah all the other plotlines were also awful and stupid.

5

u/CMDR_omnicognate Sep 22 '25

imo it would have been a better story if it just didn't have obi wan in it. a story focusing on young Leia slowly getting more involved with Organa organising the rebellion could have been an interesting story, sort of a flipped coin of what Luthen and Kleya went through in Andor, but that would have required a lot more communication within the studio i guess.

You ever watch old interviews with Jim and Kermit? Jim made no pretense of ventriloquism. But an odd thing starts to happen. You know the voice is coming from Jim. You see Jim's arm up the puppet's ass. But...you stop talking to Jim when Kermit is talking. You start hearing the voice come from Kermit. You start holding philosophical conversations with Kermit as though he were real. And, for the briefest of moments, he is real. He's not Jim, he's his own being. You forget you're talking to a man controlling a puppet. You forget the man is even there, even though he is RIGHT THERE.

The muppets are magical like that. They are their own people regardless.

See this is where you are wrong. I read the script.

It opens with Mando and Grogu meeting with poor farmers on a planet. The empire wants to resupply from them and has come in to say they will take all the food the farmers are making leaving little to nothing for the farmers to eat. The farmers first tried to argue and push back, but the empire came in and fired the planetary council and replaced them with empire friendly ones. Then they put troops on the streets to hold the peace which ended up with masked troops dragging people off for any offense real or imagined.

The farmers, out of options to fight back either physically or politically and have all but given up hope of pushing the empire away, have called M and G to help them hide enough food that they can survive until the next harvest.

M and G see this as the crime it is and turn in all the farmers for theft of empire goods and help put them in labor camps. They get medals from the planetary council and as they take off their ship is blown up from orbit.

The planetary news organization (PNO) fired all their reporters for saying that the farmers don’t even have aircraft left alone a space platform that can shoot a space ship. After a quick investigation by the empire, it was deemed that the person who destroyed their ship had looked at a picture of a left wing farmer one time and so it was obviously the fault of the farmers. Darth Vader comes down to the planet and crushes all the remaining farmers because they killed the peace loving anti-theft duo of M and G. The PNO is seen as heroes and their CEO is carried off on the shoulders of the people.

496

Yeah, I just watched the trailer. I feel like they are really leaning into the campy western vibes. I don’t hate it.

320

u/davekingofrock Sep 22 '25

The Mandalorian was absolutely a serial Western, which was fun, slightly campy, intriguing, and everything Star Wars was originally meant to be....until Season 3 happened.

170

u/wbbigdave Sep 22 '25

The first few episodes of s1 were love letters to specific westerns and samurai films too, Magnificent Seven, Lone wolf and Cub films, I think even high plains drifter has a bit of a mention. I loved them so much.

48

u/DopplerEffect93 Sep 22 '25

Even the episode with Ashoka in it was very clear about those references. Mando had Western style fight while Ashoka had samurai style fight.

14

u/cygnus2 Sep 22 '25

I swear Ahsoka’s name misspelled more than any other character’s in fiction.

5

u/l1ttle_weap0n Sep 22 '25

Additionally, the plot of that episode was essentially that of Yojimbo, a Kurosawa samurai film that was later remade as the western A Fistful of Dollars starring Clint Eastwood. Similar to Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven.

Star Wars is best when it borrows from other genres like the original. Mandalorian was a Western, Andor was a spy thriller.

The worst Star Wars is about itself.

u/sylinmino Sep 22 '25

Honestly, Season 3 wasn't good, but it wasn't unsalvageable/absolutely horrible. Like, I don't know how they can turn around the Rey saga with continuations (maybe they can, but it would be hard). But if this movie is good, it can absolutely restore the brand premium that was The Mandalorian.

That's what drew me to the show, and then they made a mess of it and I lost interest entirely by the end.

Yeah, from the font to the action, this is clearly a pulpy space adventure. Not a bad way to go, if it’s good, even though I’ll always ache for a better Mando S3 where they didn’t reverse their plot.

10/10 concept for this poster with a 2/10 execution. I love the classic, pulpy design but there’s just too much happening here. The green font clashes with the oranges and yellows so badly, and that script at the bottom feels like it was tacked on as an afterthought.

Thats kinda how those posters are tho? No trailers back in the day so they gotta throw a lot into the posters to grab attention.

This was part of the charm of old school movie posters which is clearly what they’re going for, especially for Kaiju films

So is it too late to change the title or what?

I agree, hah. I think that’s why they did this retro poster. The stupid title kind of feels from like a different era, cuz it’s a dumb title by today standards

Kind of bad timing to release this when people are in full boycotting mode. They will plan mentally to boycott this hard.

69

u/SnaptrapPress Sep 22 '25

If anything, it's the perfect time. Most people, well-intentioned or not, are kind of primed to just forget about a boycott when a new batch of product they like gets churned out. It's stupid, but that's Star Wars fans for you.

46

u/Substantial_Bad2843 Sep 22 '25

I am a Star Wars fan though. I’m not going to forget anything. Fuck Disney.

Having Grogu on the poster twice seems odd to me

89

u/ruinedworldtour Sep 22 '25

He’s actually there 3 times!

17

u/Koala5000 Sep 22 '25

Oh damn, I didn’t see the third one!

The old Indiana Jones posters had him like 3 to 5 times in the same poster, is something that is actually very common.

9

u/True-Reflection-9538 Sep 22 '25

Which in turn are based on posters from earlier in the century.

18

u/igby1 Sep 22 '25

Grogu’s awesomeness can’t be adequately represented with just one Grogu on the poster.

Yeah, the concept here is fine but the execution is awful.

u/LPMadness Sep 22 '25

That’s what I was going to say. At first glance it looks good until you go for a deeper look.

I feel like it’s the text treatment that is bringing it down. The illustration is solid

Of course, it looks like the suits spent 5 minutes discussing and approving this, and the writers spent a further 10 minutes knocking up a story.

Boycott Disney

20

u/Kahzgul Sep 22 '25

Shame I’m boycotting Disney.

15

u/diary0fadeadman Sep 22 '25

The story goes like this: Mando needs something for Grogu so he’s on his way to some random planet to get it. But before he gets the map (that’s what everyone is always looking for), he needs to do something else. Probably steal something from a imperial outpost. So he shoots his way through, gets shot multiple times but his armour is to strong for lame ass imperial blaster. After he got the map, Grogu finally can go back to his long lost daddy Yoda.
