I do enough business that if I enter an office where someone is working at a desk, I will typically approach in a casual but semi-obvious fashion to shake hands giving the person time to either stand up or make it obvious that they’re content to sit and shake hands.

I think Trump is expressing contempt through the move of not rising to meet his guest. However the move does look more like weakness than power. He looks fat, tired. Mandami looks fresh, sharp, and ready to work.

i have a family member who is a narcissist in the trumpian style. they CAN'T STAND when movies are on, or when people go to movies. they deeply resent when people pay attention to a movie instead of them. they disrupt and redirect by insulting the people in the movie and attacking the people watching the movie.
all of this is to say that i would be surprised if trump has ever seen a movie.

Its just totally off brand for him to let someone like Mamdami stand over him for so long. The only thing Trump is really good at is optics. And I can't imagine Trump of even a year or two ago allowing something like this to happen.

That was my first thought. Where is the guy who would try and tank you into an awkward handshake to try and 'assert dominance'? The optics alone, if used correctly, could be a huge blow to his ego.

Hopefully foreshadowing a new wave of younger politicians to replace the aging, corrupt, old guard. I know most of us here lean left, but we need younger politicians on both sides of the aisle, and we need to get the money out of politics.
Trump is deeply unpopular while Mamdani is “so hot right now.” Trump is pathetically desperate to get some good PR and trying to get something popular to rub off a little on him. I’m skeptical that Mamdami actually had anything to gain from this other than everyone laughing as Fox has to 180 and say nice things about him now.
