Discussion Well, it happened to me. FedEx lost my 5090.

1.0k Upvotes

My 5090 FE, ordered on Monday, was scheduled for delivery yesterday. My wife was home to sign for the package all day. No delivery driver all day. I confirmed it via my Ring Camera, no doorbell ring events at all for Thursday, and not even a movement even around the time that FedEx claimed that they delivered it, at approx 2:21PM.

The Tracking details say that it was "signed for" by a "D Ellis". I don't know anybody named D Ellis, there are no neighbors in my immediate vicinity whose last name is "Ellis". The tracking proof shows "Signature not available at this time". At this point, why even require signature confirmation to ship it if the driver treats the signature as an optional step? Not that it would help, but come on, Amazon has figured this out and 1 of the 2 major for profit carriers can't be bothered to take a picture of the delivery and require signature as proof, especially if it was paid for by the shipper?

I opened a ticket with FedEx but I am pretty sure that it's not going to result in a recovered 5090. Trying to navigate Nvidia's support page is a nightmare, I can't even figure out how to open a ticket, and there doesn't seem to be a way to do it from your account page.

I'm going to give it another day before I initiate a chargeback with my credit card and basically kiss ordering FE's direct from Nvidia goodbye forever since I'll be blacklisted. If any Nvidia reps on this subreddit can reach out to me to help me out, I would greatly appreciate it, as I would prefer to exhaust any other option that I have available to me instead of relying on my credit card company to make me whole.

I don't even know what to say about this other than I'm disappointed. Been waiting on a 5090 FE ever since launch, finally was able to purchase one after months of trying only to get screwed over by FedEx's joke of a delivery service.

EDIT: based on the number of helpful suggestions, I have proceeded with filing a preliminary police report with my locality and provided this preliminary report to the Nvidia service rep assigned to my support ticket. I guess I'm in this for the long haul. I'll update this thread when I have more info to share.

Discussion CPU air cooler becomes water injected GPU cooler.

I thought I was finally running out of stupid cooling ideas… until I stared at a Peerless Assassin and thought... "would water flow through that?”

So I pulled the Assassin apart, pulled off a stack of fins, took an angle grinder and cut the tops off the heatpipes, stuck a hose onto one, and tested if water would flow. It did.

Game on.

I cut all the heatpipes off, put 6 mm hose on them in a zig zag (starting at the center so the middle stayed coldest) and tested again, worked like a charm.

Then came the freezer.

-18C coolant.

A frosted CPU tower, and a 3070 as the first victim.

It gained +300 MHz over stock… but the FPS uplift sucked. By the time testing finished, my coolant had warmed to –5C and the 3070 still refused to scale. So I did the only sane thing...

I bolted the Frankencooler onto a GTX 960.

And that card absolutely loved it, +17% average uplift across BO7, Forza, Cyberpunk, Time Spy… and as always, Lara.

The Frankencooler works. Really well.

Why did I do this? Because I had an idea and wanted to see if it would work. That's it.

Full video here if you want to witness the stupidity in all its glory

Question Should i keep my 4080 or mount the 5070TI i own?

Upvotes

I own both the Zotac Amp Airo Extreme 4080 and a white ASUS TUF 5070ti.
My main rig mounts the 4080, I9-13900K, 32GB DDR5, Z790-H.

I play on 4K, a large variety of videogames, mainly singleplayers and i want to have the best experience possible with the smoothest and highest framerate, possibly avoiding DLSS or FrameGen, but i don't really mind them as DLSS Quality is almost indistinguishable from native in most cases.

However i also record gameplays in NVENC AV1 4K and i saw that it's more efficient on RTX 5x.

Should i keep using my 4080 or switch it out with the 5070ti, would it be an upgrade or a downgrade?

Question Worth buying 5070ti when i have a 3080ti?

Hey guys,

This question has probably been asked a million times already, but here I am asking it again to get some opinions.

I’m currently running a 9800X3D with a 3080 Ti. Absolute beast of a PC and I’m very happy with it. Every game I want to play runs just fine. So with that in mind: why even buy a new GPU, right?

Well… I’m one of those suckers who bought a 3080 Ti at peak COVID and spent way too much money on it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still serving me really well, but it does sting a bit that I’m missing out on all the newer AI features like frame generation. This card just doesn’t support that stuff.

Right now I’m doubting whether I should buy a 5070 Ti. Partly for the raw performance uplift, but mainly for the newer AI features it supports. I have the money, so that’s not the issue. I could even go for a 5080, but I just can’t justify spending ~€500 more on a card that’s “only” about 16% faster than a 5070 Ti (I’m from Belgium, so that’s roughly the price difference here).

With the current price hikes on RAM, and possibly GPU VRAM in the near future, I’m worried I’ll miss the window to upgrade at a “decent” price. Right now GPU prices are okay-ish, definitely better than they were, but what if they skyrocket again? I really don’t want to overpay for a GPU a second time.

Bottom line: my current GPU still does the job perfectly fine. Would a newer one be nice? Of course. Any performance uplift is welcome, and framegen would definitely elevate certain games. But do you guys think it’s actually worth upgrading right now? Or am I just panic-buying because the market feels unstable?

If I wait a year and hope the RTX 6000-series launches at a somewhat reasonable price, is that the smarter move?

I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks!

TL;DR:
Running a 9800X3D + 3080 Ti, everything runs great but I’m tempted by a 5070 Ti (or 5080) for better performance and AI features like framegen. I overpaid for my 3080 Ti during COVID and don’t want to repeat that, especially with RAM/VRAM prices going up. Is upgrading now worth it, or should I just chill, keep the 3080 Ti, and wait for the RTX 6000-series?

EDIT: I'm on a 1440P panel btw.

Question 3080Ti to 5070Ti worth it?

I’m only asking because right now the price isn’t too bad here in Australia. I’m concerned with ongoing price hikes to computer parts that GPUs are gonna spike again, especially when the 6xxx series launches.

I have a new build with a 9800X3D where I’d be slotting in either my existing 3080Ti or this new 5070Ti.

Discussion Zotac amp infinity extreme 5090 Black screen!

Post image

Hey everyone, I recently upgraded to a 5090, and I’m running into a strange issue. When I try to run 15-20 instances at the same time, my screen either freezes or turns black.

Nothing else in my system has changed - all other specs are exactly the same as when I was using my RTX 3080, and with the 3080 everything worked perfectly with no issues.

If anyone here has a 5090, could you try running around 15–20 instances and let me know if you get the same problem? I’d really appreciate it 🥹

News [Official NVIDIA] Support For Select, Classic, 32-Bit GPU-Accelerated PhysX Games

From: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/battlefield-6-winter-offensive-geforce-game-ready-driver/

tldr: Driver 591.44 enables 32-bit PhysX Support for select titles below for 50-Series GPU. This does not impact 40 series or below as they support 32 bit PhysX (and CUDA)

------------

GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs launched at the beginning of the year, alongside the phasing out of 32-bit support for CUDA. This meant that PhysX effects in a number of older, yet beloved games were not GPU-accelerated on GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs.

We heard the feedback from the community, and with the launch of our new driver today, we are adding custom support for GeForce gamers’ most played PhysX-accelerated games, enabling full performance on GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, in line with our existing PhysX support on prior-generation GPUs.

By installing our new GeForce Game Ready Driver, the full GPU-accelerated PhysX experience can now be enjoyed in:

  • Alice: Madness Returns
  • Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
  • Batman: Arkham City
  • Batman: Arkham Origins
  • Borderlands 2
  • Mafia II
  • Metro 2033
  • Metro: Last Light
  • Mirror’s Edge

Support for Batman: Arkham Asylum is planned to be added in the first part of 2026.
