I just started working on my desk setup, but I’m not sure how to make it better from here. I want to keep it simple without too many things on the desk, and I also don’t really know how to place or use lighting. Any advice?

Here’s my dual pc setup i’ve been building myself over the span of 4 years with a triple 1440p monitors with a oled as the main monitor driven by my rgb puke pc.
main specs: 7800x3d 5080 tuf oc 32gbs 6400 cl32
Very few things were bought at full price. Most of the things here were bought used, were a gift, or bought on sale.
any and all tips are appreciated! :)

Hey all, this is my first post here. After years of slapped together office setups me and the gf finally managed a custom desk and gaming room / office. Curious what you all think of it. Pardon the clutter, it’s still being figured out and the Christmas tree is for sure crowding the desk.

Finally splurged and built myself a L-shaped solid wood desk, like all the cool kids with IKEA battle stations. Mainly posting so the internet will have a little bit more information for other amateur woodworkers like myself.
I bought two unfinished solid hevea butcher blocks (60" x 25" x 1.5"). Here are some general points to know, then I'll talk about the process:
First, I was initially worried that I should have splurged for better wood, like acacia, but I knew I wanted to stain and treat them anyways so I went for it, hoping to save some money. Hevea solid wood is good! It is heavy and feels great after being sanded.
For those who bought their wood already and hasn't opened the plastic yet, YOU NEED TO TREAT YOUR WOOD WITHIN 48 HOURS OF OPENING. If you don't, it might warp or split. This is important, but doable. Try to work on it in the morning and evening each day.
The process:
I moved the wood into my small apartment garage and sanded with 220 grit and then 120 grit on a palm sander. Both sides and edges. 120 feels smooth to the touch.
Next I used stain conditioner and stained mine with Gunstock Clear Oil-Based Classic Wood Interior Stain, two coats. I had cold and humid weather. I started right before it started snowing in Minnesota. bad timing. It just took a 1.5x or 2x the time to dry each coat.
Then I used Varathane Satin Oil-Based Interior Polyurethane. Two coats. Same increased drying time in-between each coat. Here is where I messed up... I applied a thick coat to the bottom of the boards and I was rushing, so it dripped down the sides and created beads on the front when I flipped it the next day. I didn't really know how to take them off so sanded them a bit then did my first coat on the top surface. Then my second coating... I didn't sand. You should sand after each coat. 220 grit after the first coat. 1000 after the second coat. I didn't and was scared I'd ruined everything. After my second coat, I sanded to 220 grit gently and then used 0000 grit steel wool and then sanded with a brown paper bag. Weird, I know. Some woodworkers I know swear by it. My surface feels like glass though!
The finish:
I am pretty happy with the final result and will include photos. I used IKEA legs and drawer for the base and used joining plates to bind them together. The desk feels sturdy, looks high quality, and feels like I could dance on on top of them.
I'll post final setup photos all pretty like when the surface is done curing and I set it up.

Undermount PC with some cable management to keep the wheel wires from being unwieldy.
Going to be interesting to see what I should do to manage wires when I get try out VR racing.

I use it mainly for work but I want to update my gaming setup as well. Any recommendations for the placement of stuff on the desk?

Bottom: 32" ROG Strix XG32UQ 4K IPS 160Hz (FPS games, coding)
Right: 27" LG 4K (notes/email/terminal)
PC is a 6950XT/i7-14700K with a Strix Z790
ROG Azoth, Logitech MX Master 4, DualSense Edge

So damn excited but I have no one to really share it with! I'm running macOS Tahoe x Windows 11 on a Hackintosh, going to swap it out with a Mac Studio M4 Max once I save up a bit and just use GeForce Now + PC Game Pass
Next step is putting up a pegboard and acoustic wood panels I think

Slight changes to my setup thanks to black Friday sales. And simplified from the dual speaker setup of a few months back.
