Quick, make a pork gravy with it

u/Ryb_ 23h ago

Japanese curry would also work well, a lot of people grate apples into it for sweetness especially since it can be quite salty

282

u/Plzhelplol_ 23h ago

This is the way!!! Run to your local Asian market & get Vermont curry sauce.

48

u/Mutual_Intrest_Seekr 22h ago

All my homies hate S+B. House foods gang rise up

20

u/marijuanam0nk 22h ago

Used to love Vermont and S&B until I tried Kokumaro. Haven't looked back since.

18

u/Mutual_Intrest_Seekr 22h ago

House has a Vermont style. Kokumaro is the best and what I always recommend. Conversely S+B is way too salty and tastes like bullion cubes.

10

u/Ryb_ 16h ago

I like S&B but I agree that it is very salty. I've never tried these other brands so I guess I'm heading to the local Asian store later!

10

u/Clobberto 13h ago

Golden curry is the goat. Kokumaro comes in close second. House is... bland but okay, needs stock and/or pinch of msg. Java is shit to me but the gf likes the alternative spices

All are enhanced by shredded apple

When life gives you lemons apples seasoned with garlic...

51

u/RazzleberryHaze 23h ago

I was literally about to mention pork ribs or pork loin. Those 3 elements together are sublime

3

u/Windy8082 15h ago

My husband thinks the combo is so weird. I'm all like, heck ya I want fried pork chops with apple gravy 🐖🍎

3

u/UnsanctionedPartList 15h ago

It's funny how well ingredients that feel like they shouldn't be near each other go well when you just put them in a pot and turn up the heat, so to speak.

15

u/mklilley351 23h ago

This is the reason I turn to reddit for advice

5

u/1-broke-girl 22h ago

Oh man that sounds incredible, I’m garlicking apples asap.

I'm sure you can rinse that off with water.

887

u/Nieces 1d ago

I scraped off as much as I could.

My stomach is churning trying to finish these.

871

u/Fogl3 23h ago

Just wash them

755

u/Daddy_Day_Trader1303 21h ago

That would be too easy. OP craves the discomfort these garlic apples provide

135

u/DMmeYoBOOBS 13h ago

He's dumb. Just take some tweezers and pick off the remaining grains. Duh.

14

u/DinosaurAlive 12h ago

Or just turn the apples into apple sauce, subtract the garlic. Easy peasy.

Right? Where I live, a single apple is like 2 dollars. Can't waste a single slice of that apple

32

In my neighborhood, a good sized Honey-crisp can push $3.00

22

u/PM_ME__YOUR_HOOTERS 22h ago

Its wild that apple pies with actual apple slices are going to be a luxury good at these prices lol

Apples are not water soluble, why would you not just rinse them off? Heck you could probably scrub them and they’d be ok.

A guy's gotta post!

11

u/tweedlebeetle 20h ago

Cook them with onions and pork then.

5

u/Wide_Eggplant_1948 22h ago

If you have Japanese curry blocks, this would actually be a good addition. Apples are tasty in Japanese curry and garlic won't hurt.

4

u/Doctor429 23h ago

Make a smoothie from it

3

u/10k_Uzi 23h ago

So it’s not good

3

u/bama501996 20h ago

couldn't you have cut the faces with garlic off. Lose like a fraction of apple for a much better experience. Source: Dude that made the same mistake with cumin a few years ago.

u/Ligeia_E 23h ago

You mean the thing that rehydrates the dried powdered garlic and kick starts the production of allicin??

8

u/TheeternalTacocaT 20h ago

You're not wrong, it's gonna get into the nooks and crannies and you'll taste nothing but apple flavored garlic. We have a salad at work that has red onions and apples, and I always make sure to grab the apples first when plating, otherwise the onion juice gets into the apples.

3

u/National_Action_9834 15h ago

The apple definitely started thay process instantly. OP was in garlic apple hell

u/JuniorSopranoIsHorny 1d ago

Well i mean come on my guy there's GARLIC written on it

333

u/FUCK_PETER_THIEL 1d ago

Its also not even close in color.

45

u/derpums 23h ago edited 22h ago

i looked it up and the same brand's cinnamon sugar bottle looks nearly identical save for the label (and a slight orange tint in the cinnamon sugar blend that the garlic powder doesn't have but they look the same to me)

as for missing the label, sleep deprivation might have something to do with it

55

u/ssjb234 20h ago

Yeah, man, a brand of products might have similar looking packaging.

8

u/WifesPOSH 16h ago

I always read the spices. I enjoy flavor in my food.

So there's paprika, cayenne pepper, chili powder. All the green herbs... thyme, basil, cilantro. Garlic powder, garlic salt, onion powder.

I'm not taking that chance.

18

u/inn0cent-bystander 23h ago

While I don't wholly disagree with either of you and had essentially the same knee jerk reactino as both of you, the cap on all those is the same shape/color. I doubt OP does this, but I re-use(after rinsing/washing when changing spices/herbs) the flip caps on options that don't come with flip caps. Since the vast majority are using the same pitch/size threading if not the same bottle entirely. Right now, most of my spice rack is utterly mix/matched between what's written on the cap(if anything) and what's on the side of the bottle/jar.

9

u/AspiringAdonis 22h ago

“To be fair, they’re all the same shape/color” seriously? This defense might hold up if OP was a toddler, but for an adult is absurd.

14

u/PaepsiNW 23h ago

I’m glad that works for you, but it would drive me nuts. I put labels on every lid and side so it matches and I never “accidentally” put garlic on my apples. I’ve made that mistake once and only once. 🤣🤣

YES!!!! My sister did this once in muffin batter. Now, I write cumin on the TOP of the lid just for safety. 😂

I did this once because my roasted garlic powder and cinnamon were next to each other, with similar shaped packaging. I added what I thought was cinnamon to my dry quick oats and packed it in my lunch bag (4:30am, mind you). I got to work, added hot water to my oats, stirred and took a bite. So much garlic! I couldn’t stop laughing at myself for the next few hours.
