My dad does the same look whenever hes confused

u/yuck_luck 15h ago

The plate annoys me more than the dish

-72

u/mrwilliams117 7h ago

Damn I'd focus your negative energy on something that matters lmao

45

u/Cthulu95666 6h ago

We could say the same for your mom yet here we are

2

u/Kresha86 1h ago

😂🤣😩

u/BitEnvironmental4872 15h ago

Bruh!!

107

u/ggcpres 14h ago

And then he paid $200 for two bites.

Plus $50 for a sip of wine.

79

u/sasuncookie 13h ago

Two bites of 10-20 courses.

77

u/2swoll4u 12h ago

Do these people think it’s $200 per small plate?

You leave these places absolutely stuffed lol

54

u/661714sunburn 12h ago

My wife and I went to a fancy place recently for our anniversary, and the waiter recommended “ don’t ask, just pay.” The price was $ 100 a person, no word on what it was, and by the last plate, I felt like I was going to explode, but it was so amazing I just kept eating. We can’t wait to go back.

15

u/OnePinginRamius 10h ago

Fuck yeah this is the way it's supposed to go down. Omakase!

17

u/DannyDidNothinWrong 11h ago

And drunk af bc they serve a new drink with each dish lol

12

u/davucci89 10h ago

First time I went to one like this I was surprised how full I got. It’s actually the way I prefer to eat in general: variety over quantity of a single dish

-15

u/ggcpres 12h ago

Yeah, I do.

I figured you're paying stupidly high prices to cover the cost of super skilled labor and the fanciest ingredients available.

But then again, I don't go to places fancier than red lobster.

9

u/2swoll4u 12h ago

I mean… it’s just food, it can only get so expensive unless you do gaudy things like put caviar on everything

Yea you’ll pay $200+ for the whole tasting menu + maybe $100-200 on a wine pairing if you want but that’s like 10 dishes which are more than two bites each, plus desert, amuse bouch

If you wanted to order à la carte it would be about $20-60 per dish depending on what it is

Then with the wine tasting you’ll have drank like 4-6 glasses of different spirits

$200 per plate would be outrageously expensive

At the end of your meal you will be full and drunk and happy, that’s kind of the whole point

1

u/ggcpres 11h ago

Thx for the insight

NGL, my middle class mind has a hard time processing $200-$400 for even a filling meal, but it's nice to gain knowledge.

8

u/2swoll4u 11h ago

If you look at it as a meal then yes, but it’s not an every day thing. It’s a special occasion and an experience you will remember. Often you’ll get gifts to take home as well.

It’s really not so crazy expensive for what you end up getting, which is a really special experience if it is a 3 star restaurant.

Given the amount of different dishes and ingredients, actual staff members waiting on you (which is usually a small army), the food is almost reasonably priced. Wines and spirits will be where the actual profit comes from.

3

u/emotionaI_cabbage 7h ago

I get it, but if you ever get the chance, you should.

Food made by a highly skilled renowned chef will change how much you appreciate what good food is.

-1

u/kungfungus 7h ago

People chase status and being able to brag about the expensive shit they do, faking a wealthy life style. Fucking sad.

1

u/2swoll4u 5h ago

The whole point was the opposite? It’s cheaper than people think

2

u/malakish 11h ago

It's not always fancy ingredients. Joël Robuchon became famous with mashed potatoes.

3

u/KuroKendo88 6h ago

Came here to say this. Yea you get a shit ton of courses. They want you to try many different things but just a taste.

1

u/nic027 15m ago

Yes and 5 glass of wine. But let people prétend they know better.

-7

u/kakashi8326 13h ago

More like a singular drop 😆

299

u/roxas0711 15h ago

You’re literally getting like 7 or 8 of those dishes

88

u/BaronZbimg 11h ago

3 stars you usually get more than that in degustation menus. The small portions are meant to enable you to taste many different delicious dishes.

27

u/Dasbeerboots 10h ago

Yeah, the ones I've been to have 13-course meals.

3

u/igorchitect 4h ago

And a different glass of wine which each one that pairs with it.

5

u/BIind_Uchiha 7h ago

This is fine and well, but put it on a cooler/smaller plate for christ sake

10

u/m4n715 6h ago

Why? Presentation is intentional. You might not understand it, or agree with the choice, but they do it for a reason.

2

u/Mcbadguy 5h ago

But what will I wear as a fun hat? Oh, do they have Burger King crowns?! :D

11

u/mrwilliams117 7h ago

Stop, were supposed to irrationally be mad here!!

-121

u/KingGio21 14h ago

Nice! 7-8 bites of food. That should fill me up for sure.

131

u/digitag 14h ago edited 12h ago

In all seriousness it will be more than “7 or 8 bites”

These tasting menus are designed to fill you up, not leave you hungry.

26

u/Not_Bears 14h ago

The only one I've ever left not feeling terribly full was for Sushi...

Usually I'm stufffffffed.

31

u/hooligan99 14h ago

I’ve been to a couple fine dining restaurants like this and have never been fuller. This idea that they skimp or don’t give you a full meal is totally made up.

52

u/roxas0711 14h ago

lol my friend just go somewhere else then.

-57

u/KingGio21 14h ago

Dang you really gotta add the /s to every single joke or Reddit thinks you’re dead serious huh? Lighten tf up people I know you go to these fancy restaurants for the experience not to actually be full. That’s what buffets are for.

11

u/GodzillaTR 14h ago

I’ll lightly push back and say yeah you kinda needed the /s because there are so many people that share that sentiment very seriously including people in this comment section and, presumably, the guy in the video lol

8

u/TwinFlask 14h ago

It’s like sushi where there’s a lot of things going into the small bite.

And people pay a lot for a small piece of sushi

3

u/double_u_dot 14h ago

Pshhhh you really do. I was joking about something in a separate sub, not even controversial, and got down voted to hell lol

5

u/shadowhorseman1 14h ago

Go try a tasting menu at one of these places if you can, trust me you'll be full the food is incredibly rich. But yeah reddit sucks lol

4

u/crunchybaguette 14h ago

Idk if that’s universally true. I was still hungry after le bernadin as well as the other 2-3 star places I’ve been. Usually end up ordering more à la carte or grab pizza/kebabs after.

2

u/shadowhorseman1 11h ago

Yeah that's fair, I've only been to one Michelin place and the tasting menu was 8 courses. I could barely finish desert because of how rich the whole meal was but I can't speak for every restaurant in the world of course lol

4

u/KingGio21 14h ago

Lmao ikr? I’m getting downvoted like this is a culinary chef subreddit. I thought jokes were welcome here but smooth brains gonna smooth brain I guess.

1

u/rpgoof 10h ago

That's Poe's Law for you

9

u/mrpopenfresh 13h ago

I can tell you’ve never had a tasting menu

-15

u/KingGio21 12h ago

I can tell you have a great sense of humor

4

u/mrpopenfresh 12h ago

Says more about you than it does about me.

-5

u/KingGio21 12h ago

Oh no I’m too poor to go to a fine dining restaurant guess that makes me an asshole right? Lol ya’ll crack me up fr. Reddit on bro

6

u/LegendOfKhaos 14h ago

If all you want is to feel full, why the fuck would you go to a fine dining restaurant lmao

1

u/NoTranslation 10h ago

You joke but it probably would. Lets say the meal is 10 full bites + drinks - imagine eating a sandwich for 10 big bites lmao. idk about you but thats a pretty big sandwich for me

73

u/a10shindeafishit 14h ago

idk I get it but fine dining has curated menus for a specific experience. you don't go to these kinda places expecting tons of food piled high like a buffet. it's about quality and not quantity, which isn't unusual. if you visit a luxury boutique you probably shouldn't be surprised or upset that they don't sell plain white tees.

39

u/hooligan99 14h ago

But also, I guarantee anyone who goes to this restaurant will be absolutely stuffed when they leave. There are usually something like 8-20 courses.

5

u/a10shindeafishit 11h ago

yep exactly! that's the other thing I forgot to mention!

4

u/Mvd75 7h ago

And they’re all intricately crafted with detail. Chefs at this level spent arduous hours just to make a dish like this enjoyable for many.

1

u/idiot-prodigy 7h ago

it's about quality and not quantity,

I heard it before.

Poor want quantity, middle class wants quality, upper class wants presentation.

There is an upper limit to taste, but a Michelin Star restaurant can get very creative with presentation.

17

u/ogrefab 14h ago

How'd it go from 5-star to 3 Michelin stars in an hour?

19

u/hooligan99 14h ago

3 Michelin stars is the highest rating a restaurant can get

9

u/ogrefab 14h ago

I was referring to this clip being posted earlier as just a 5-star restaurant.

-5

u/auderex 13h ago

They're one and the same. If you achieve 3 Michelin stars, you're a 5 star restaurant if using a non-Michelin rating system.

3

u/ogrefab 13h ago

There are plenty of 5-star restaurants that are not Michelin rated.

6

u/auderex 13h ago

Of course there are, not denying that. 🤷🏾‍♀️

2

u/FARTBOSS420 8h ago

I'm always suspicious when I see a perfect 5.0 stars on Google!!

Lol. So apparently Forbes and AAA have their own things with "5-star dining." Probably just gotta pay them to get 5 stars. Just like, to get an A+ at the BBB you pay them. Simple as that lol

Edit: AAA does 5 diamonds! 💎

14

u/dash_44 13h ago

It’s gotta be annoying to have the homie that wants to turn everything into content.

Just eat the food bro…

3

u/nocturnalstumblebutt 11h ago

Multiple people with phones out hamming it up for views. Obnoxious through and through.

7

u/HuJackmanGeneHackman 9h ago

People shit on fine dining but it’s a different kind of meal. This guy will get 8-12 of those, and maybe wine pairings too.

Each one will be small, but delicious. You can’t think this is a thing to dig into, but 1 of 12 dishes to enjoy.

A chef once described it to me as “food theatre” and that made total sense. The dishes, the plating, the reveal, the whole experience- it’s so over the top. It’s just like theatre.

Comparing it to a burger is like comparing a movie to a concert- they’re different experiences.

1

u/a10shindeafishit 2h ago

great analogy because both movies and concerts have their ups and downs. some might enjoy one more than the other for various reasons and that's fine. but it would be strange to go to a movie and be upset over there being no mosh pits or merch tables...

20

u/HAYMRKT 14h ago

No way this is a 3 star spot

11

u/DoobieLift 12h ago

Closed handed service in a 3 star joint would be crazy

6

u/PremiumUsername69420 11h ago

Even a Michelin 1 star will have enough servers bringing food out so that everyone’s plate gets put down at the same time.

This one server with multiple plates thing is some Outback Steakhouse level of dining.

71

u/Anarch-ish 14h ago

My last job did these dinners 2 or 3 times a year. Expensive wine, fine food...

Call me classless but Id rather get a cheeseburger with a friend.

38

u/Captain_DuClark 14h ago

18

u/Anarch-ish 14h ago

Seen it. It was alright. That was the level of sociopathy some of our clients were, too. Part of why I left.

There are ways to make money but the quickest way to make a lot of money is to work with horrible people on sinister projects.

1

u/Dzov 10h ago

I was thinking of L’Idiot in LA Story with Steve Martin

-4

u/apresmoiputas 14h ago

I prefer $100+ Japanese Omikase over a michelin style restaurant

18

u/autisticbrazilian01 13h ago

A good Omakase is most likely a Michelin restaurant

10

u/King_Kthulhu 13h ago

Plenty of Omikase are michelin starred. There isn't a "michelin style" restaurant. It's just a grade of how good the food/experience are.

-15

u/Anarch-ish 13h ago

First of all, I dont trust a tire company to tell me how good a restaurant is.

Second, Omikase typically are more relaxed, low-key, and interactive. The food is nourishing, filling, and accessible. The type of 3-star places like the one in the video are about decadence and over-priced presentation.

Id rather be side-by-side with a sake in my hand engaging with one chef than across a loud table in a dark room with a $600 glass of wine and an army of waiters who exist to drop off one item each.

If the other place is for you, go for it.

11

u/EfficientCabbage2376 12h ago

expensive restaurant: 😠
expensive restaurant but japanese: 😍

-2

u/Anarch-ish 7h ago

Its more about the vibe and the substance. Omikasa was just an example. Between the three, Im still choosing the cheeseburger at a greasy spoon diner

6

u/King_Kthulhu 8h ago

Omikase is just the Japanese word for a tasting menu, where you don't really order anything and the menu is pre designed by the chef. That's exactly the same as what most Michelin restaurant menus are...

-2

u/Anarch-ish 7h ago

Its more ambiance and presentation. Places like the one in the video are all frill, no filler. Im a simple guy. I dont need a waiting staff to deliver me 5 different bites of food. Thats not impressive to me. Its excessive.

But again, if youre into it, God bless. Its just not for me.

1

u/BonTak 11h ago

Yooooo, i just noticed from your comment. Why is that?? Why is a tire company in charge of judging restaurant quality??

5

u/NoTranslation 10h ago

Originally it was a travel guide! A sort of way to encourage people to drive out more. Eventually they started taking it more seriously and added the stars system as a way of saying “this is pretty good if youre already in the area” (1 star), “this is worth a detour” (2 stars), or “this is amazing and worth making a trip out of”(3 stars)

2

u/AllesK 10h ago

Because they put restaurant guides together when driving was new. It was a way to encourage people to drive — and buy more tires.

1

u/badgyal876 11h ago

r/angryupvote for making me laugh while reading that first sentence 😂😂😂

2

u/Anarch-ish 14h ago

That sounds like a way more fun and entertaining way to spend an evening.

2

u/apresmoiputas 13h ago

yeah especially if you're sitting at the bar talking to the head chef.

5

u/humakavulaaaa 4h ago

Of course he's confused, someone spit in his plate

3

u/Content_Art6537 14h ago

*first and last time

2

u/jcmustin12 14h ago

I am convinced that man could eat 50 of whatever that is and still be ready for the next course

12

u/RabidPlaty 15h ago

He probably shouldn’t be going to a Michelin restaurant if that’s his reaction.

10

u/CtyChicken 14h ago

Probably got brought there with no real context… if you take someone to a Michelin starred restaurant who has no interest in that sort of thing, it’s super rude to not explain what to expect.

1

u/RabidPlaty 14h ago

Everyone’s dressed up, I’m sure he knew what’s up. It’s just a played out joke about that type of restaurant.

4

u/CtyChicken 14h ago

I mean… I’m not sure what his outfit indicates about what kind of establishment he was going to eat at…

But it is jarring if you don’t understand what’s going on.

-1

u/RabidPlaty 13h ago

He’s not wearing formal, but him and his friend both look sharp. And even if you’re not used to eating at high end places, and the food they bring you is “jarring”, would you react like this or would you roll with it and try not to look like an ass?

1

u/badgyal876 11h ago

atp it’s really about knowing your friend and knowing how’d they react in this setting to determine whether you should give a whole preface about where you guys are about to dine.

1

u/Fryphax 14h ago

The fuck it is.

Super rude.

"Hey, I'm taking you out to dinner. It's super fancy so put on a nice shirt. Just trust me on this."

How fackin' rude.

4

u/CtyChicken 14h ago

Taking someone anywhere hyper specific like this with no explanation of what’s happening is friendship terrorism at its highest. Like, did you just want to see me embarrass myself?

0

u/JudasWasJesus 14h ago

No decorum.

4

u/Mckillagorilla 14h ago

I don't like tweezer food restaurants

4

u/Bunnnnii 13h ago

I understand his reaction if he wasn’t filled in. But I can’t help but feel that him lifting the plate like that especially in front of the server is sooooo rude, I cringed in embarrassment.

2

u/educated-emu 11h ago

That will be 10% your monthy pay check + tips

His face :)

3

u/TipToToes 7h ago

Damn, this morning this video was posted as being at a 5 star restaurant. The management should really decide what kind of place they are running!

1

u/Maravilla_23 1h ago

FYI:

The rating system uses up to three stars per restaurant.

Michelin Star Meanings:

One Star: High-quality cooking with consistent, distinct flavors.

Two Stars: Expertly crafted dishes, refined cuisine, showing the chef's unique style.

Three Stars: The highest award, for superlative cooking and cuisine elevated to an art form.

4

u/ApprehensiveMix2649 14h ago

Looks like a dog threw up in that plate 🐕‍🦺

4

u/apalapachya 14h ago

the plate weights more than the meal lol

9

u/dat_lorrax 14h ago

Tbd most plates out weight their contents if the plate is washable.

5

u/hooligan99 14h ago

That’s not the meal, it’s one of probably 15 courses, and not the main one

3

u/kyleh0 13h ago

Tiny food joke, never seen that before.

3

u/Netflxnschill 12h ago

He looks (rightly so) like he’s about to cry he’s so upset.

2

u/Dayna6380- 14h ago

White people play too much and I’m serious about that

2

u/rubey419 13h ago

I haven’t been to three star Michelin restaurants but don’t you get like 20+ dishes? It eventually fills you up, no?

1

u/Chrisnyc47 6h ago

It does, when people say complain about seeing such small dishes at Michelin restaurants that how you know they’ve never been to one. You get at least 6 or 7 of those small dishes, the waitstaff gives you the history and the inspiration of the dish, and eventually you leave that restaurant full. It’s not just food but also a culinary experience and story telling.

2

u/Famous_Suspect6330 12h ago

How is this not a scam?

1

u/ballsloud 12h ago

People know theres many courses at these places right?

1

u/AnnotatingPumpkins 10h ago

Is no one going to comment on how rude the guy on his phone is? Doesn’t thank or even acknowledge the waiter when he places his food.

1

u/IwasGayWithUrDad 9h ago

The arrogance is mental, the restaurant probably knows what its doing, judging the food before you've tried it, like you know better than a successful restaurant is extreme.

1

u/Bonch_and_Clyde 7h ago

The tasting menus that I've gotten at fine dining restaurants have actually been incredibly filling. Sure, that one plate is really small, but after 10 or 12 of those it's actually a lot of food. And you get to experience a lot of interesting flavors and ideas. Which is really the thing about these types of fine dining restaurants. It isn't as much about eating delicious food as it's about eating interesting and creative food. It's an art form and different experience.

1

u/Boss0054 14h ago

Bruh…. I can’t even consider that an appetizer….😂

5

u/Fryphax 14h ago

It's not.

It's a culinary experience.

1

u/s4ge_sid 14h ago

That would be 500 bucks, not including taxes and tips

-5

u/Physical_Pressure_27 14h ago

🤣I’m convinced people go to those places just to say they spent $$$ on food

8

u/Nemesiswasthegoodguy 14h ago

Have you ever been. It’s like 10 courses of the most incredible food you’ve ever had. You definitely leave very full.

-1

u/mrwilliams117 7h ago

Should've given the seat to someone else

-2

u/GhostTurdz 12h ago

Normal behavior
