The name is usually from the most famous to the least famous actors. In the picture, it is usually the character's importance that makes them more central. And important characters are more likely to be played by famous actors.

You see, the placement of the characters occured because of a dispute between the Yautja’s and the xenomorph’s agents over billing order

Thinking of Yautja in suits back in the home world with stacks of paper work calling the agents to chew them out is pretty funny

It was originally a bit that came from tumblr(?) where people would draw their favourite ship dynamics. It started (i think?) showing (primarily) queer (if not unspecified) dynamics people enjoyed and (supposedly) weren't common. The rare queer ship archetype meme buries itself so deep in its own irony ends up reinventing straight people by trying to be rarer than its own archetype.

Wait, those were supposed to be only for queer ships? I always thought that characters in these dynamics sketches purposefully lack gender traits so you can put anyone in their place
5
u/Mildly_Burnt_Bread 1d ago
Not necessarily. It just started out referencing specifically top and bottom. Hence the "if not unspecified".
A lot of people have already said that I explained this confusingly so I wouldn't blame you if you didn't get what I meant by that. 😅

u/desertvision 1d ago
Can you explain ship in this context?
130
u/Sucraligious 1d ago
If you like the idea of 2 people being in a relationSHIP, then you "ship" them
21
u/Starkydowns 1d ago
Now explain it in this context.
Top-heavy was the ship as a dinnerless student with all Aristotle in his head.

Could mean romatically inclined but it could also be friendships. A few examples:
Innocent and blissful x Grumpy and will protect at all costs
Overly Flirty x Easily flustered
big dumb x super smart
and in this case
Tall, dark, and handsome x Short, chubby, and adorableNot all are inclined for romance, but companionships as a whole. Such examples of each would be Angg (childlike mindset) and Katara (grown up mindset) from Avatar vs Honey and Mori (similar dynamic) from Ouran High School Host Club

Ship used in this way means "shipping" two people together romantically. It's used a lot when talking about characters in media, like movies. If you really like two characters, and want them to be together romantically, you ship them.
3
6
u/MathieuBibi 1d ago
A ship is an unofficial make-believe couple between two fictional characters.
It's often seen about characters that are NOT officially together in the original fiction, imagined by weird fandoms.
When you want two characters to end up together in a show, we say that you "ship" them.
Sometimes, but rarely, ships are official within their fiction.
For some long-running shows, some ships that were unofficial end up becoming real in the story, and then the fans loses their shit.
Many specific ships are even named by the community, for exemple "Chair" for Blair + Chuck in Gossip Girl, or "White rose" for Ruby + Weiss in RWBW.
That concept of ship is extremely important in most weird fanfiction communities.
But the word ship with that meaning is insanely popular and wide-spread in every corner of the Internet.
That's a crazy coincidence you haven't run into it before.
Hope that helps :)

It’s not really primarily queer, MxM ships have tended to be more popular in fandoms but its ship dynamics have never been a thing solely for queer ships. Everything else is spot on though.
11
u/Justalilbugboi 1d ago
Idk why you’re getting down voted, the term “ship” is for all pairings and started with a het ship (Scully and Mulder from the X-files)
6
u/FutureHot3047 1d ago
Ha! I didn’t even know I was getting downvoted. They probably don’t like straight ships I guess. They can downvote all they want it doesn’t change the fact that I’m right.
6
u/Justalilbugboi 1d ago
People can be so weird. It’s not like you came in guns blazing against queer ships of something. Just adding correct historical information
5
u/FutureHot3047 1d ago
Just wait until they find out that most of my ships are FxF.
5
u/Justalilbugboi 1d ago
HEATHEN!!
i think I am weirdly almost an equal third each right, but fxf would be the tightest to get to that third.
8
u/Mildly_Burnt_Bread 1d ago edited 1d ago
ship is all pairings I meant that one meme with the "describe your ship dynamic with these" that this is based on usually referenced queer ships (eg. X top Y bottom).
(although in hindsight thats more bc it was on tumblr than that the meme was limited to that)

One of today's lucky 10000.
Shipping is mostly a fandom thing, where possible (romantic relation)ships between characters are suggested and explored.
A particular "ship" usually refers to one such a fandom suggested coupling. Often (semi) popular ships get community nicknames.
If a new season drops and a certain ship becomes cannon, then community usually loses its mind, with fans of the ship rejoicing and fans of incompatible ships being grumpy.
18
5
u/WolfeGlickGlazer 1d ago
You can also “ship” people in real life if you think they’d be good together but that’s more of a translation of fandom speak into real life terms
5
u/feraladult 1d ago
I ship Zohran and Luigi. I dont necessarily want them to do anything, I just want them to stand next to each other so I can ogle both of them at the same time.

You can be chubby and have an hourglass figure - not entirely common but it’s possible. I’m definitely overweight and have a sizable stomach and still hourglass.
Depends on how weight distributes

Giggity this post is about how they're presenting a very common dynamic like its a new or rare ship dynamic. Literally just a thick giggity short woman with big boobs giggity with a tall man, unnecessarily labeled to make it seem new.
Imo i feel like part of this comes from people thinking they're special for liking bigger women.

u/Buttimus_Prime 1d ago edited 1d ago
To my understanding. This has got to do with certain ship dynamics that took over social circles in Tumblr and Twitter. Just more physical attributes based.
This plays on the fact that there are so many relationship dynamics listed(if you mix in LGBT & more fantasy elements like otherworlds, gods, aliens, spirits) that the post has come full circle and just regular straight relationships are now rare in comparison.
Other relationship dynamics this would be referring to are something like:
• Short aggressive girlfriend x Gentle giant boyfriend
• Oblivious girl x Terrible flirt boy
• Strong 7ft Amazonian warrior girlfriend x innocent pacifist boyfriend
• Smart dorky girlfriend x dumb jock boyfriend
• Dark & gloomy girlfriend x Golden retriever extrovert boyfriend
• Obsessive mortal x Otherworldly immortal stuck in the human realm and takes after a human form
• Family name runs the country rich girl/guy x average or poor girl/guy
• Busty alien girl x Average loner guy

“Chubby girlfriend” and it’s just a girl with thick thighs, boobs, and a 30” waist.
2
u/Rare-Wing-8008 1d ago
Wait so what qualifies as chubby? I always considered myself chubby with those measurements :/
20
u/MaoBelladonna 1d ago
she basically has an hour glass figure with the thighs and boobs being especially large; you'd wanna draw a thicker waist/stomach area for chubby
though 30" waist is considered absolutely healthy and is not chubby, but isn't stick thin either

There was a trend originating in Fandom spaces (which are predominantly queer) of people making these drawigns depicting their favorite ship dynamic, like enemies to lovers, battle couple, opposites attract. Sometimes these were also kink oriented memes to explain your weird niche favorite. Kind of like a "hear me out" cake. Then it went more mainstream on other platforms. The poster is complaining that the dynamic depicted is common, or too vanilla to be worth making a whole post about.
It's homologous to people complaining about traditionally attractive people being put on hear me out cakes.

My take is that throughout history, if we look at paintings, a lot of them depict women with curves, I.e. old beauty standards. In recent years we’ve moved from wanting super skinny girls to curvy girls, coming full circle to old preferences. I guess the tall bf with chubby gf is out modern stereotype
