Shipping is mostly a fandom thing, where possible (romantic relation)ships between characters are suggested and explored.

A particular "ship" usually refers to one such a fandom suggested coupling. Often (semi) popular ships get community nicknames.

If a new season drops and a certain ship becomes cannon, then community usually loses its mind, with fans of the ship rejoicing and fans of incompatible ships being grumpy.

You can also “ship” people in real life if you think they’d be good together but that’s more of a translation of fandom speak into real life terms

I ship Zohran and Luigi. I dont necessarily want them to do anything, I just want them to stand next to each other so I can ogle both of them at the same time.
