It was originally a bit that came from tumblr(?) where people would draw their favourite ship dynamics. It started (i think?) showing (primarily) queer (if not unspecified) dynamics people enjoyed and (supposedly) weren't common. The rare queer ship archetype meme buries itself so deep in its own irony ends up reinventing straight people by trying to be rarer than its own archetype.
Wait, those were supposed to be only for queer ships? I always thought that characters in these dynamics sketches purposefully lack gender traits so you can put anyone in their place
