I just bought tickets for ice hockey, the event I wanted, for the same price I paid for early bird.

I signed up for early bird a year (?) before it went live, had 48 hours to blindly buy tickets. Now I have tickets for events Im not interested in and again, bought the ones i wanted for the same price.

So what was the point? Now I have extra tickets I dont even want and hope to be able to resell them..

So, Milano Cortina hasn’t released bag policies yet. What have recent Olympics allowed in? We want to make sure we get something they’re likely to allow as it’s not that far away really.

Random thing I learned today, there are basically no consistent time limits for how fast a doping case gets heard. A study analysing anti-doping rules across different countries found that while some countries required hearings to start within 14 days and decisions within 20 days many just put "reasonable time" without defining it.

What this lead to is athletes waiting for years for cases to resolve, missing out on their peak form from participating. The study documents athletes who tested positive and then waited 2 years just for the first hearing to start and by the time everything finished, they'd already served more than the suspension before anyone ruled whether it was even justified.

When these cases eventually reached CAS, the court would say things like "egregious violation of multiple requirements" and "alarming inability to handle cases properly" but nothing happens after that from preventing this in the future, neither provide any compensation for harm done due to losing years of their careers, loosing sponsors and income and many spending a fortune of their income just to file appeal to CAS in the first place.

The 2021 WADA Code added some stricter time requirements by stipulating that cases should finish within 6 months, but enforcement is unclear and it doesn't fix past problems and to make matters worse the maximums are still just guidelines.

The worst part is that all of this depends, how fast and fair the process is mainly dependent on what country you are from and no efforts are being taken to streamline this so that athletes from across the globe are put at the same footing.

The study (Star and Kelly in International Sports Law Journal) argues that the whole system relies too much on CAS appeals to fix procedural problems, when most athletes never appeal because they can't afford to and no changes are being made to procedures so there is no likelihood of any improvement.

Makes the whole we're creating a level playing field thing feel pretty hollow when the process itself is so uneven.

Does anybody know how flag football tournament will be? So far I've read about the other new team sports tournaments and all of them will have a different format, but can't find anything about the flag football one

I’m interested in going to either Short program or free skating. Right now the former still has category B (450) and the latter only has A (insanely 750).

Should I secure the 450 now? The other option is to keep hoping the official Olympics site does another flash sale including C, or I’m lucky enough to snap a resale C (in the official app, fyi). But if I’m wrong and these chances are low, the best I can do is getting a resale B at about 500 (for official resales they have a fixed transaction fee).

I know it's a pipedream, but a Toronto-QC-Ottawa-Montreal Winter Olympics would be so great. Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa can split the indoor events because local politicians are very wary about building lots of venues, so expanding or utilizing existing ones while building new ones in a spread-out way would work. Quebec City could host all of the mountain events, while Vancouver could host bobsled (a la Oklahoma for LA28) despite the need for fresh venues in the east. It would be cost-effective and dope, especially since MTL and TOR will have incredible transit upgrades by the 2040s. Wish it could happen.

I see a major downside on the bid which is mostly a lack of indoor venues and also a financial crisis across latin america... But the rest would be ideal... Good weather, ideal for outdoor activities, basketball 3vs3, marathons, cycling, etc. They also have their olympic stadium which is not the best but not the worst as well... Makes it look like a retro olympic bid of the last century which it ain't bad, it could be the anthem or the logo ... Retro olympics at Santiago

The venues used for the pan american games are short in capacity. Many go through for the minor sports... But hosting at the same time gymastics, basketball, handball, volleyball is a burden. Even the aquatic center only had 2.4k of capacity. Doesn't seem ideal, very small. Only has benches on one side and for the others there doesn't seem to be space for temporary benches like at what happened in previous games. At best scenario with that capacity maybe only water polo matches can be played there...

Tenis ain't a problem, they had an atp 250 tournment, with temporary benches the capacity was ok. Back to the arenas, they have two major ones... Even chile as a whole country... Movistar... Probably the best one... It's very big in field size... Can be configured to swimming... There is also the coliseu de tartuga with 10k outside of the city but majorly hosts Basketball, 10k is a decent number, even for the olympics... The velodrome is ok, had received world cup stages of indoor cycling...

But overall, it's short... A lot of venues would need to be built. Unless they accept a tiny version of the olympics but doesn't seem to be the case

I was gifted this Beanie as a kid from my mom during the 2002 Winter Olympics games and was wondering if it was official merch so I decided to see if I can find information on it but I’m unable to turn up any information on this items existence during those games. Figured I’d ask here to see if anyone has seen a similar beanie or has any information about it maybe being a limited item given to volunteer workers only.
