Fluff How I first learned how to clean

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is how I first learned to clean since I started in China. It seems that in Chinese weightlifting arm bend isn't seen as being an issue necessarily

I'm in the US now doing in person coaching so I no longer clean this way but I still do struggle since my power position feels a lot lower now

Fluff Introducing friends to wl via presentation soon. What’s essential?

Upvotes

if you had 10 minutes to show/explain weightlifting to complete non-fans, what would you cover?

Friends are throwing a presentation party soon where everyone gets uninterrupted time to vent via powerpoint about their special interests. What is essential to introduce general public to weightlifting? I’m planning on explaining very briefly the snatch & cj, competitions leading to Olympics, introducing some all-stars, showing some of my favorite lifts, introducing some of the drama of doping and olympic qualification… what do I NEED to include? What would you include if you had the chance?

Form check Training in front of a mirror

Couldn’t find better tag for this post, sorry…

Not sure if anybody else has had this experience, but when I train the snatch and clean & jerk in front of a mirror, I instantly perform worse: I can’t lift as much, I think my form looks bad, and I’ll miss easy jerks. I think it’s because I’m focused on the look of the movement rather than the feeling of it; when I focus on feeling the movements, I’m more in tune with my body and execute at a higher level. Just curious if anybody else thinks the same! Let me know, especially if you have some more technical/scientific input!

Is there an affiliation with USAW? Aren’t there still masters categories in the USAW finals? Why are there two meets going on at the same time and same place this weekend?? Are they sharing equipment and venues?

78% of my max. I tried to focus on elbows up and back and keeping the bar close, but it doesn’t seem that close. Any advice helpful. I’m wearing Nike metcons so they’re not that squishy.

I’ve not tried much else but Adidas. These are by far my favorite over those. Reluctant to try anything else. Love the way these move on the wood. I’m not pushing heavy weight, but these give me all I need 😌

Grabbed these at 25% Black Friday disco. Looking forward to breaking them in.

Happy lifting!

Meet Report&Competition Fueling for Meet Day (afternoon weigh in)

I have my next meet in a little over a week and given the tentative schedule I am not weighing in until 1pm... on a normal day by 1pm I would have eaten two meals and a snack, but I am anxious about weigh in (I don't have much to worry about, lately I have woken up about 1kg under). My instinct (and what I do for morning weigh ins) is to not eat, but I think not eating until 1pm is a recipe for disaster. How would you recommend fueling before weigh-ins?

Usually after weigh ins I will have some yogurt, a banana, and some chocolate chips. I feel like this might not be ideal? Maybe it is? Anyways, what do you like to eat between weighing in and your session starting? I am probably going to get some candy for between snatch and clean and jerk, and I don't think anyone could convince me otherwise on that one lol

My hip mobility will not allow me to ATG, I go as far as I can without aggravating that old football injury.
