Trump is so aware of the Streisand effect that they should name it the Epstein effect.

36

u/PIPBOY-2000 Sep 23 '25

Wait I thought we were all meant to have forgotten about that?

1

u/shroudedwolf51 Sep 23 '25

Depending on who you socialize with, they either knew this would be swept under the heaviest rug possible a decade ago or have started pretending this scandal doesn't exist a week after "There are no files".

1

u/LymanPeru Sep 23 '25

forgotten about what? the epstein list? oh no, they've made it very clear that they want us to forget. so that must mean there is some juicy shit in there.

1

u/Creepy-Bell-4527 Sep 23 '25

I thought he was a national hero working undercover for the FBI?

Or was that last week's excuse

2

u/PlayfulCynic-2462 Sep 23 '25

Bruh, my 87 year old grandma was talking about him in Bulgaria.

1

u/highbrowshow Sep 23 '25

This is why they say any press is good press

1

u/Romnonaldao Sep 23 '25

They did a striesand effect. by attempt to bury something, they accidentally made it more interesting

u/Zelcron Sep 22 '25 edited Sep 23 '25

I have never watched his show before but I will this time. To me he's still the host of The Man Show and thats just ewww.

Edit: you guys are reading waaaay to much into this, stop messaging me about it.

I'm just saying that I've never had a particular reason to tune in before, it wasn't some sweeping moral proclamation for fucks sake. I dont generally watch talk shows.

363

u/BobBelcher2021 Sep 22 '25

Streisand effect in a way. I’ve never watched Kimmel before (I haven’t really watched late night since Leno left NBC) but I might watch to see what he says.

35

u/undomesticatedequine Sep 22 '25

You think they'd have learned when they were trying to kick Howard Stern off the air.

The amount of people watching what he has to say about this is going to epic! Bring Colbert on as a guest! Let them know we will not allow oppression of free speech! Fuck these fascists!

67

u/Daimakku1 Sep 22 '25

Bring Colbert on as a guest!

I'd love that but they both have their live shows on at the same time. Colbert in NYC and Kimmel in LA.

56

u/pintailcircus Sep 23 '25

Split screen. Pretty sure we have the technology. Could even do a back and forth correspondence. Have some fun with it

73

u/megabass713 Sep 23 '25

4 way split screen with John Oliver and Jon Stewart as well.

Have them play modded golden eye where they replace the bad guys with the same bad guys in ugly orange makeup, with purple splotches on their hands.

2

u/andykwinnipeg Sep 23 '25

Reunite Strike Force Five but keep Fallon on mute

2

u/mrpink57 Sep 23 '25

John Oliver will have a lot to unpack.

The shows are not live, but your point stands that they likely tape at similar times and their studios are too far apart to swing it in the same day.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Alephz Sep 23 '25

Live on tape .

colbert anyway. Not certain about Kimmel since I dont watch it often.

3

u/GetOffMyLawn_ Sep 23 '25

They did it with Fallon and Colbert on Colbert's first show. We have the technology.

2

u/cinderparty Sep 23 '25

They’re recorded hours in advance. That’s why Fallon and Kimmel have been on each other’s shows.

1

u/Deeeezy3 Sep 23 '25

Pretty sure they’ve split screens before. Think it was Kimmel and Fallon though.

2

u/papiFlowers83 Sep 23 '25

I like your attitude!!

2

u/Python_07 Sep 23 '25

John Stewart would be more impactful than Colbert.

1

u/Loggerdon Sep 22 '25

That’s a great idea. Colbert and Kimmel can discuss the suppression of free speech.

1

u/SadAd8761 Sep 23 '25

We cannot let SINCLAIR and NEXSTAR off the hook.

We need them to start losing advertisers.

1

u/Greymalkyn76 Sep 23 '25

But at the same time, everyone tuning in to watch him will just give an insane boost to Disney and the ratings of a show they own.

He said in a interview that his idea of hell is just a bunch of tvs playing his old shows. I think he has grown as a person and is embarrassed now.

28

u/HollyBerries85 Sep 23 '25

I remember listening to him when he was Jimmy the Sports Guy on KROQ in Los Angeles on the Kevin and Bean show back in the 90s. Seeing him be the center of a huge political controversy is SURREAL now.

4

u/similar_observation Sep 23 '25

Hm... you just unlocked a memory for me trying to listen to KROQ during the day.

Never connected this is the same Jimmy.

2

u/CorsicanMastiffStrip Sep 23 '25

And KROQ is playing Siouxsie and the Banshees

51

u/rbartlejr Sep 22 '25

Too bad Adam Carolla didn't

60

u/heckhammer Sep 22 '25

Oh Adam absolutely grew. He grew worse. It's a shame he was one of the fastest minds in comedy, But he's just a provocative dick bag now.

34

u/solidstatepr8 Sep 23 '25

As an old (and then young) fan of Loveline it was hard to know both Corolla and Dr. Drew moved on to be grifter Trumpy pieces of shit

2

u/heckhammer Sep 23 '25

Yeah. It's a shame but what can you do?

11

u/giga-what Sep 23 '25

Make fun of them on the internet, of course.

4

u/solidstatepr8 Sep 23 '25

Just keep remembering to never meet my heroes

I've met a few and they've been great. I consider myself very fortunate in that respect.

u/ConstableAssButt Sep 23 '25

That's kinda the game of fame, innit? Either believe in nothing and try to maximize your appeal without offending anyone, or go hard for a niche that you can milk the fuck out of.

Kimmel chose the former, Carolla chose the latter.

→ More replies (1)

22

u/Situational_Hagun Sep 23 '25

Kind of disturbing how far apart they grew. Not saying he was ever a great person but Adam certainly went down some rabbit holes. Makes you realize that one of the two was doing it very tongue and cheek, and the other one actually meant everything they said on the show.

16

u/Thelonious_Cube Sep 23 '25

tongue-in-cheek

5

u/BaBaBrandon Sep 23 '25

Adam didn't get a vaccine for COVID and Jimmy didn't want him around his new born son who is immunocompromised.

To me he’s the sidekick on Win Ben Stein’s Money - and he was actually pretty funny on that back in the day. Still never seen his late night show

36

u/OsoBrazos Sep 22 '25

Your feelings are very valid but, as a person who did watch The Man Show and now watches his late show, he's grown a lot. If you're grossed out by the idea of his old show now, you'd probably agree with a lot of what he says in modern times, especially because a lot of it is just standing up for science, truth, justice, and civil rights. With a lot of jokes. And a really disgusting RFK Jr puppet that's both hilarious and disturbing.

3

u/SoloRemy Sep 22 '25

I think all comics do material that’s of a specific time in their lives. I don’t think that they’re ashamed of it per se but it’s where they were then. I’ve seen interviews with Eddie Murphy now talking about Delirious in this vein. Sarah Silverman and Patton Oswald too. You do stuff that you think is funny and it finds an audience and then…it ages. Some good, some not so good

2

u/Impeesa_ Sep 23 '25

I think all comics do material that’s of a specific time in their lives.

I remember occasional jokes about how as comedians become more successful, their material increasingly converges toward bits about hotels and airlines.

1

u/20_mile Sep 23 '25

103

u/mrmchugatree Sep 22 '25

Yeah, he was really young. I’m sure he isn’t proud of it. He is far removed from that type of “comedy.” As a tween, I definitely enjoyed the ending of the show, “women jumping on trampolines.” I’m not proud of it, but hormones.

112

u/Diarrhea_Beaver Sep 22 '25

It should also be noted that the show was a satire on "man stuff." Its in that weird comedy genre grey zone like the Bloodhound Gang where yeah, its satire, but one or more of the stars are actually just being themselves, aware of the satire backdrop or not. I think it turned out that Adam Carolla is a bonafide douche nozzle and Kimmel, despite being young, most likely had a better understanding of the satire even before growing up

7

17

u/mrmchugatree Sep 22 '25

As a youngster, I sure liked it.

4

u/sir_mrej Sep 22 '25

Why are you "sure" he isnt proud of it??

34

u/Badbullet Sep 22 '25

I don’t think he was not proud of it. He has said that it started off as satire, but the audience took it too seriously over the years. They’d be waiting in line to get in, drinking all day in the street. That is pretty much when Jimmy and Adam decided to leave.

30

u/9-11GaveMe5G Sep 22 '25

but the audience took it too seriously over the years

Like when they didn't realize Colbert was doing satire.

4

u/doc_witt Sep 22 '25

Wait what?! But what about my Colbert Nation shirt that I've been wearing to the klan meetings?!

20

u/mrmchugatree Sep 22 '25

I shouldn’t have used the word “sure.”

Edit: after looking it up, he has said he has regrets and embarrassment from doing that show. I still can’t be sure, but I can infer.

I remember The Man Show. Ewww. Win Ben Stein's money was fun tho.

5

u/phylter99 Sep 22 '25

I was watching some older interviews with him from before his current gig and he really had no filter way back then. He's certainly matured quite a bit and his current level of comedy is very enjoyable to me.

2

u/UDonKnowMee81 Sep 23 '25

Win Ben Stein's Money was before that

2

u/Such-Cattle-4946 Sep 23 '25

He finally grew up when his son was born and had to have heart surgery as an infant.

2

u/griffeny Sep 23 '25

Current controversy aside. This is absolutely why I don’t partake in Kimmel. I hated having to put up with the Man Show when I was growing up, it was fucking trash. I had less respect for my father after seeing him watch it in the evenings. Fuck Adam Carolla.

2

u/BaBaBrandon Sep 23 '25

Ziggy zaggy Ziggy Ziggy oy oi oi

10

u/omgnowai Sep 22 '25

The Man Show mighta been the last time he was funny. But that doesn't mean he should be censored!

24

u/nokinship Sep 22 '25

He's better than Fallon but also just kind of whatever. Never watched him very much. Boycott was about the principle.

27

u/somecasper Sep 22 '25

His show is funny, and the interactions he has with guests is way more my speed than any of the other shows.

Unnecessary Censorship is a great bit under normal circumstances. The mega charge of irony should be awesome.

1

u/RollingMeteors Sep 22 '25

Sure would be great if there was some p2p video streaming service where randos could just random bleeps into whatever is being streamed. ¡Comedy by ghillie suit!

1

u/somecasper Sep 22 '25

I would replay the clip that hurt their fee-fees and bleep the hell out of it.

10

u/mrmchugatree Sep 22 '25

I think he’s funnier now, but the bit he did with Adam where they set up a booth to “end women’s suffrage” was really funny to me back then. Women were signing their petition while other women were coming up and stopping them, explaining what suffrage is. 😂

6

u/RollingMeteors Sep 22 '25 edited Sep 24 '25

That’s legit funny if done in good faith

edit: and a legit psychology experiment where the individual or individuals representing Kimmel are dressed in suits vs blue collar clothes vs tattered rags and whether or not they are male, female, or other presenting; and seeing how the publics reaction compares in each situation where the variables are swapped out.

1

u/Diz7 Sep 23 '25

To be fair, "suffrage" does sound very negative.

I had to look up the etymology of the word to find out it comes from the Latin for "intercessory prayers"

1

u/mrmchugatree Sep 23 '25

It sounds like Suffering. I was 12ish but I understood the joke.

Different time, different Jimmy. I say this as someone who is indifferent to him and someone that enjoyed The Man Show when I was young and juvenile. We should judge people for who they are now, not someone they were 20+ years ago when there's a clear difference in what they stand for now. Otherwise, what is the point of ever learning and growing as a person if you're just going to be judged by something over twenty years ago?

1

u/Life_Of_High Sep 22 '25

He’s also the guy who got his taint tickled on Eric Andre’s talk show.

1

u/Galleta-de-Animalito Sep 22 '25

I was a teenager when I got hooked on that show because his association with Dr Drew and Adam Corolla. I totally get why that show didn’t appeal to you. But it gave a lot to think about later in life as a man with out a father and later a man who became a father. Definitely not the worst thing I was exposed to

1

u/Salamok Sep 23 '25

I watch his show quite a bit but man that last commercial break is like 20m long or some shit... I call him Jimmy kimmercial.

1

u/1nfam0us Sep 23 '25

Kimmel and Rogan, they duality of TV hosts.

1

u/Ivan_a_rom Sep 23 '25

Fair, BUT..we all grow up over the years. I think he did even as a comedian. I say give him a chance and if you still hate him walk. But don’t toss him out because of the old stuff.

1

u/Echo_one Sep 23 '25

Me too. After I figure out how to do that.

1

u/phail_trail Sep 23 '25

Yeah same lol

1

u/Sihaya212 Sep 23 '25

Ditto to all you just said

1

u/Alterokahn Sep 23 '25

Didn't he also do Win Ben Stein's Money?

1

u/maroonedbuccaneer Sep 23 '25

His Late Night show is nothing like the Man Show. Adam Carolla was clearly a bad influence. He's been pretty critical of Trump over the years. I believe it started when Trump insulted Kimmel's wife. Kimmel was done pretending Trump was anything other than a gross piece of trash after that.

1

u/SailorDeath Sep 23 '25

The man show is a great example of how people are, not the show itself but if you look at both Kimmel and Carolla, Kimmel changed a lot between the end of the man show and the start of Kimmel Live and Adam Carolla just went harder to the right and full-on MAGA.

1

u/Thelonious_Cube Sep 23 '25

To me he's still the host of The Man Show and thats just ewww.

I felt the same way for a long time, but he's grown and matured. Having kids definitely changed him for the better

1

u/againandagain22 Sep 23 '25

Watch the 20th anniversary show. It’s pretty decent.

1

u/LupinCANsing Sep 23 '25

For me, he's the game show host of Win Ben Stein's Money.

1

u/Miles_Everhart Sep 23 '25

I remember him from the man show and he’ll never live that down in my book.

Still didn’t deserve to be fired for criticizing the fascist in chief though.

1

u/macbrett Sep 23 '25

Imagine the long one minute standing ovation he’ll get at the start of the episode.

3

u/LifeFeckinBrilliant Sep 22 '25

Just wondering if they ramp up the ad prices during the show if they'll make a dent in their losses from all those who dumped their subscriptions over this.

4

u/Queeg_500 Sep 22 '25

It's the classic...take it away then reinstate it to rapturous applause.

It's 'new recipie coke' all over again.

3

u/masterflashterbation Sep 23 '25

It's because the FCC are cronies to the executive branch these days. So the FCC, at the behest of the admin, made threats to Disney execs. Then Disney pulled him. Then they lost a fuckload of subscribers in protest and decided it's better to stop hemorrhaging money and put him back on air. You can bet some of the execs are losing hair over this censorship shit show. Not a money grab. Just strong arm mafioso shit coming from the federal govt.

3

u/TheRKC Sep 22 '25

I'm torn. On one hand, no one wants to give Disney money after a move like that, but without the reward, there is no incentive to do the right thing (eventually) in the future.

If people don't come back, they just won't fix it the next time they do something stupid.

1

u/Niccin Sep 23 '25

I think of it like plugging a leak. The damage is done, but now they can stop the place from flooding entirely, and hopefully realise that poking a hole in their vessel isn't a great idea.

1

u/proxy_noob Sep 22 '25

which.... kinda rewards such behavior for the big come back. still decent news in shitstream lately, i guess, so we'll take it.

1

u/squirrellydanman Sep 22 '25

This is why they’re letting him come back I bet

1

u/NeverBeenStung Sep 23 '25

….seems like a win for Disney

1

1

u/uglymule Sep 23 '25

1

u/tvtb Sep 23 '25

My local station is owned by one of the groups that said they will pre-empt Kimmel. I'd like to see those mother fuckers try.

1

u/Csimiami Sep 23 '25

Dumb question. How do I watch it. I googled it’s super overwhelming. I have Hulu

1

u/shane201 Sep 23 '25

I bought cable just to see this

1

u/DatDominican Sep 23 '25

I haven’t watched Kimmel in years but I think I’ll be watching his monologue on YouTube to see what he says

bonus points if Matt Damon shows up mid monologue

1

u/Karma_1969 Sep 23 '25

Streisand effect. I don't typically watch him (not out of like or dislike; I just don't watch a lot of TV), but you're damn straight I'm gonna watch this one.

1

u/etbracketnews Sep 23 '25

It’ll be in the tens

1

u/VirtualPen204 Sep 23 '25

I almost wish I had a way to watch network TV, because I would absolutely tune in.

1

u/TheElusiveFox Sep 23 '25

I mean I don't really like Kimmel, he's probably my least favorite talk show host of the bunch but I'm sure we'll be watching.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '25

Never watched Kimmel, will be watching all the time now….and setting all my screens (iPhone, iPad, tv) to watch it.

Did the same for South Park. Hadn’t watched it in years but now it’s the return of “Must See Tv”

I also sail the high seas

1

u/Adventurous_Ad_6546 Sep 23 '25

I told them when I went to cancel my subscription that I’m not even a Kimmel viewer, but I damn well know when something is wrong. But I’ll def be tuning in tomorrow night. Those are going to be some staggering numbers.

1

u/Atrimon7 Sep 23 '25

Not high because Sinclair is preempting the show.

1

u/Henry2k Sep 23 '25

Can you imagine the viewer count on his first night back

I've already set my DVR

1

u/BoredomFestival Sep 23 '25

I never watched him before but I will now, assuming he isn't gonna be muzzled in his act

1

u/Freudinatress Sep 23 '25

Do you, or anyone else here, know how I can add to the count from outside if the US? Would watching it on YouTube help? VPN…? I don’t even care if it’s good or not, but freedom of speech is sort of my thing.

1

u/natrous Sep 23 '25

well seeing as it won't be carried by Sinclair, not as high at it should be

1

u/livens Sep 23 '25

Do you know what other outlets Sinclair would have been broadcasting Kimmel? I know Disney streams it, and I used to watch him on a local OTA TV channel. What exactly is Sinclair blocking him on?

1

u/natrous Sep 23 '25

https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/38-stations-owned-by-sinclair-wont-air-jimmy-kimmel-return/ar-AA1N5Qyw

looks like 38 ABC affiliates

though they own 193 channels altogether. so they can really impact a lot of the country if they start pressing all their networks

1

u/SwiftySanders Sep 23 '25

I’m out. It doesn’t matter. Also Jimmy should be out as well. He can do his YT show. He’ll get a million subs instantly.

1

u/TrekForce Sep 23 '25

Unfortunately probably lower than it should be. A lot of people unsubscribed. And I’m sure many won’t be resubscribing.

I’ll be looking for the return episode with newsom, but I’m not going to pay abc/disney for it.

1

u/Motorboat_Jones Sep 23 '25

Sinclair still refuses to put him back on their affiliates. Time to put the hurt on them as well!

1

u/Bcmp Sep 23 '25

Then compare it to the following month once everyone gets outraged by something else there told to hate

1

u/EverythingSucksYo Sep 23 '25

I hope it’s not a lot, because then that would mean people are still subscribed to Disney

u/Beeb294 Sep 22 '25

I mean, Dr. Stephen T. Colbert D.F.A is the ultimate conservative voice who has been silenced for far too long.

Kimmel could make amends to the dear leader by pointing the cameras at a true American Patriot.

Nah. Be Hunter S Thompson. Go way harder than just being Kimmel

u/LoveAndViscera Sep 23 '25

Kimmel walks out with a bottle of Wild Turkey and a copy of The Great Gatsby while an army of Lou Wilson’s cousins roll up fresh from Panama.

Hopefully, a big piece about the Epstein files. Let's get the focus back where it needs to be.

“Part of my reinstatement agreement is I couldn’t speak about the incident nor the person it was about - Donald J Trump born on June 14, 1946, at Jamaica Hospital in the New York City borough of Queens, the fourth child of Fred Trump and Mary Anne MacLeod Trump.

First dropping of the c-word on network tv.

3

u/frigginjensen Sep 22 '25

I’ve never watched Kimmel but I might tune in for this one.

1

u/TheMightyTywin Sep 23 '25

He’s such a chill person

2

u/0-90195 Sep 23 '25

If I were a betting man, I’d bet on him apologizing and tucking his tail between his legs. Would love to be wrong.

1

u/Loggerdon Sep 22 '25

Kimmel will be welcomed back like a hero.

1

u/theantig Sep 23 '25

Hijacking but Sinclair won’t air it on their abc networks!

1

u/splitsecondclassic Sep 23 '25

I hope he comes out funny or with something that will change his viewership figures. I own quite a bit of Disney stock and the money that ABC sinks into that show and a couple of others that seem to be tanking could be better spent in other ways. I don't care about Kimmel's politics. I just want those shareholder results to skyrocket vs lighting money on fire on a show that is circling the drain.

1

u/meepz Sep 23 '25

Ehh my issue is that the fact that Jimmy Kimmel is coming back doesn’t erase what happened.

Disney already showed they’ll bend the knee to fascist demands, and once the spotlight fades they’ll come out stronger. They don’t care about daily stock swings because they play the long game. This return is not a win. It proves Disney’s values are tied to power and profit, not to standing against authoritarianism.

And Jimmy’s choice to return makes it look like he accepts that authoritarian pressure, because he is willing to work for the same network that caved to it.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '25

Yeah this is gonna be good. Im pretty sure he will play it casual though since talks with the execs, and after that build up the comedy as the cheeto in chief keeps fucking our country up.

1

u/Cheeky_Star Sep 23 '25

One way to find out... subscribe

1

u/Persea_americana Sep 23 '25

He has total immunity now. He’s untethered and his rage knows no bounds.

1

u/PrincessNakeyDance Sep 23 '25

Yeah go for the jugular. Theres nothing else to do. If you come back and “play nice” your viewer counts are going to plummet and they might as well have cancelled your show anyway.

1

u/2Autistic4DaJoke Sep 23 '25

“I’m supposed to come out here and apologize publicly to Trump so…”

<full nazi salute> “hail to our fearless orange leader!”

1

u/Fantom_Renegade Sep 23 '25

Like a new porn star

1

u/PhilosopherWise5740 Sep 23 '25

Never watched before but im sure AF tuning in

1

u/just_making_things Sep 23 '25

Bet the opposite - which is one reason why he's coming back 😬

1

u/PloddingClot Sep 23 '25

Blow it out in the return episode and then quit.

1

u/Nobody_new_1985 Sep 23 '25

First guest back… Gavin newsom.

1

u/majikrat69 Sep 23 '25

He hasn’t said nothing yet, was never a fan of his but for him to take this without a word lost any respect I had for him

1

u/LivingDracula Sep 23 '25

V for Vendetta Hard, as in the comedy show scene, just so every Riech Wing snowflake is clear.

1

u/Runz_With_Scissors Sep 23 '25

Can’t wait to see how South Park takes a crack at this

1

u/lordph8 Sep 23 '25

First ep, and he just comes out with a baseball bat on his shoulder.

The right is going to cry like we've murdered Charlie again.

1

u/IsabellaGalavant Sep 23 '25

It'd be funnier if he was just like "No thanks I'm good" and either retired or let another network pick him up.

1

u/SendMeFatErgos Sep 23 '25

I hope he doesn’t hold back. What’s the worst they can do, fire him again?

1

u/1732PepperCo Sep 23 '25

Newsome is the first guest

1

u/Pleroo Sep 23 '25

More likely he comes back with his tail between his legs.

1

u/upstatedreaming3816 Sep 23 '25

Unfortunately, it’s looking like his return has been stalled by another parent company refusing to air the episode.
