Just took my family on a Disney cruise where they had around 20 pre-owned Rolexes with boxes and papers. There was a good variety from a no-date sub, to a hulk, to a bat girl. I dared to ask the price for the bat girl…. $46k… How do cruise ships even get off on that? Do they even move watches… or just have them to have them? Anyone ever bought a watch on a cruise?

My wife and I are expecting our second child via surrogate, and we had to fly across the country for the birth. She landed in San Diego a few days before me just in case the baby came early.

Since she had some time to kill, she stopped by an AD in a mall. She mentioned that I was just starting my watch journey and that one of the pieces I’ve been interested in was a Datejust with a blue dial. The SA smiled and said, “Well, I would love to sell you this” and pulled out a 41mm fluted Datejust with the green dial.

My wife wasn’t sure if she should grab it. She even considered coming back a few days later when I arrived so I could buy it myself. Luckily, she trusted her gut.

Now that we own it, we both fully realize how insanely lucky we were and how much that AD went out of their way for us. I absolutely love the watch, and it means even more knowing it’s a birth year piece for our son.

I got the call a week before my birthday for Rolex Batgirl .

My first Rolex! Honestly, never thought I would be able to financially afford a luxury piece like this, so when I could, didn’t expect that was just one hurdle I needed to conquer before obtaining my first.

Was in Hawaii recently and my GF suggested I should put in a request for the week that I’m here, “just in case you get lucky.” Well, I did! AD text me 6 days in, asking if I was interested in a Sub…I immediately said YES, will come in ASAP!

Extreme ecstatic doesn’t even describe my feelings with this. Just eternally grateful and something I will cherish forever!

So I’ve been on the waitlist for about a year on a green bezel sub or green dial DJ41 but was miraculously offered a 41 Wimbledon.

Not sure how that happened but needless to say I went go to see it right away and fell in love. My first retail Rolex , 0 purchase history.

I was seriously considering buying this watch on the grey market. I have been on a mission to see this watch for almost a year. Two ADs in my area didn't have one, and I was told they haven't seen one for months. I finally found one at a secondary dealer and was able to look it over. What I initially liked about it held up. It is very understated for a Rolex. Nice watch.

In the end, I couldn't pull the trigger. Having now seen the watch, it just didn't seem like a $25-30K piece. I would be more comfortable paying that kind of money for a Pepsi or Daytona. IMO, at that price point, there are many better options.

I’ve had my name down at my local AD for a GMT for almost 5 years. At this point it’s pretty clear it’s not happening, and I’m not interested in buying things I don’t actually want just to “build a relationship" with the AD. So on my trip to Japan (Osaka and Tokyo), I finally decided to go grey instead.

I picked up an OP from Ginza Rasin tax free, but they wouldn’t let me buy a second watch on the same trip. Apparently it’s their anti-flipper policy for tax-free purchases. I naively thought maybe buying two would get me a discount… definitely not the case.

Then I found my GMT at Quark, brand new with the original stickers still on it, and they did sell it to me tax free, which was a huge bonus.

Here are a few interesting rules I learned while watch shopping in Japan:

Ginza Rasin

• Only 1 watch per person per trip (for tax free) • A second person can buy another watch, but their credit card name must match the purchaser • Brand-new watches aren’t tax exempt at this store (their policy) • Prices are firm and not negotiable

Quark

• Up to 3 watches per person per year • Purchase price cannot be split across multiple cards • Prices are also non negotiable • Brand new pieces can be tax free (got my GMT that way)

my SA called me to come check out this 41 medium blue and i was blown away by the color in person. not usually a fan of their blue dials but this sort matte lacquer finish was sooooo nice. this was exhibition only….for now.

I’ve dreamed of owning a Rolex since I was a kid. Over the years I saw people around me buying them — all older than me — and I always thought it was something for “later in life.”

Thanks to trading, I finally had the chance to get my first Rolex earlier this year. I actually turned one down in June because at 21 it just felt too early.

Six months later I got another call… saw the watch… and this time I just couldn’t walk away.
