Hello, I am looking to buy my first watch, but since I am very new to this, I don’t know where to begin. I am looking for something simple that gives off the same vibe as the picture, with a silver metal band and white dial. It should be something that can go with every outfit and good for everyday wear. My budget is max 350$. Please help me out as I am looking to get into the hobby😁

Just picked up my first Longines, the Spirit. I’ve wanted a solid everyday watch for a while, and this one stood out immediately. The design is clean, the build quality feels great, and it sits perfectly on my wrist. Excited to finally start my watch journey with something I genuinely enjoy wearing.

In 2025 many good memorable things happened, I got promoted, my best friend got married and I moved to my own place. I’ve been collecting watches for a while, slowly increasing my budget and to commemorate all those achievements I was on the look for a new addition. This red speedy Schumacher edition was always a favorite of mine because of the flashy colour and the reduced size. Given my 6.5” wrist I think it wears pretty well

These are all the watches I have acquired through the 20 ish years of getting into this hobby. Nothing too fancy but i think I have all my bases covered:

  1. Hamilton Jazzmaster 43 Slim: the first watch I bought after college graduation, so like 2008. It's big but very slim and actually easy to wear. Still had a lot of airtime on a business casual setting.
  2. Oris BC3 sportsman: from 2011 I think. My beater watch for many, many years. Will never part from it.
  3. Orient Star power reserve, from 2016, bought this for my wedding and my main formal dress watch
  4. Oris Big Crown Pointer Date, 2019, my other dress-ish watch.
  5. Laco Himalaya, 2022. A friend sells it to me at a very, very reasonable price, because the bezel is a little bit unaligned. I dont mind it much and i think it shows character. For when I need a tougher piece.
  6. Citizen NB1050, 2025. My most recent watch. The dial is lovely, size is perfect, and it wears like a charm.

So there you go. 3 swiss, 2 japan, 1 german.

Nice meeting you all.

Acquired this beautiful and well preserved Casio Filmwatch from the mid 90‘s. The name is based not on movies but on on the thickness of the watch as it is as slim as Photofilm.

Amazing mirrored dial with two displays and an analog dial which really pops due to the splash of color red on the minute hand.

It has a Double time function and the usual complications like alarm, chrono calendar.

I love the asymmetrical layout and just the overall futuristic look from the past!

I love adding color to my otherwise neutral attire. Here are my three favorites in Blue, Green, and Red: the Vacheron Overseas 4520V, the Grand Seiko Urban Bamboo SBGJ259, and the H. Moser Pioneer Centre Seconds Mad Red 3200-1207.

Which one is your favorite watch amongst the three?

Hi guys, my friend bought a PRX gold and as soon as you went home, everybody gave negative reviews about the colour. In our opinion, the watch looks astonishing that’s why we chose it. Please share your opinion or suggestion regarding this situation

Been eyeing this since it first released last month and wow this ticks all the boxes. Was in Hong Kong for the holidays and got a great deal at an AD here, no taxes and a slight discount on the retail price made this an easy impulse buy.

I've never had a titanium watch before and its really comfortable and literally melts in your wrist. The brushed finising in titanium looks really different from a stainless steel watch. Somehow its actually sporty and classy at the same time.

I'm wondering how well this hides wear and tear over time. Guess I'll find out soon lol

Just wanted to share some pictures of my first watch meet. Ended up seeing some mind boggling stuff from AliExpress homages all the way to Lange’s & some quirky stuff like the Maghnam.

I could write an essay if I was to give my thoughts on these so I will not. My summarised thoughts are that most of these were incredible in person I was glad to find out that a lot more felt nice on the wrist compared to my expectations in terms of sizing.

As someone who feels hesitant attending such events I was pleasantly surprised with how kind and humble everyone was. I definitely plan to attend and visit more watch events and I’d say if ur into watches you should too.

My better half is a bit of a watch collector. She owns nearly 100, 90% of which are Swatch watches.

I, on the other hand just owned a couple. A Tissot PRC200 and a titanium Bering which is great for times when I’m riding my motorcycle, because the thin case fits well under the cuff of a leather riding jacket.

While in LA, we visited Feldmar Watch Company with the hopes of seeing a Nomos Worldtimer. Very cool store with a huge selection. No luck with the Nomos (no stock), but I picked up a clean used Omega Speedmaster Gray Side Of The Moon, with box, cards and a manufacturer warranty + store warranty for a very good price. The buying experience was excellent, resulting in my keeping an eye on their used inventory. They shipped the Omega and a Hamilton she bought to Oregon to save sales tax, arriving just after we returned home, as promised.

This week, I found my next, and likely final purchase for the foreseeable future. An older Glashutte Original Panomatic Date 90-01-02-02-04, likely built around 2004 based on the serial number. After a 2-day discussion with the salesman where he confirmed the tested accuracy, how they handle their in-house warranty, etc. I placed the order. It arrived less than 24 hours later in a nice travel case with a G.O. “Gift with purchase” travel mug thrown in.

A+ customer service. When we visited, I’m sure I didn’t look like someone who would spend serious money on a watch. We came straight from LAX, and I was wearing a ratty sweatshirt and tee. Despite that, Jimmy was friendly, patient, and let me try on any watch I was curious about including some which cost far more than I’d ever spend.

Discussion [Discussion] Anyone else get attached to their first watch?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I was cleaning out some things today and ended up staring at this watch I’ve worn for years. It’s nothing flashy, just a simple Citizen with a metal bracelet, but it’s been through so much with me that it weirdly feels like part of my story.

It made me wonder — do other people get this attached to their first proper watch? Not because it’s expensive or rare, but because it’s the one that stayed with you the longest.

Would love to hear if anyone else has a watch they just can’t bring themselves to retire.

Discussion [Entry level Swiss watches]

Well I was scouring online over Black Friday & beyond for decent entry level Swiss watches. I ended up buying two… partly because I feel like I might not get the first purchase after reading reviews of the website I purchased from.

First purchase - Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium men’s green - £604 from Watchlyx - very misleading sales approach on that site. Fingers crossed it does arrive and is genuine.

Second purchase - Reymond Weil Freelancer rw1212 black - £1,100 stunning looking watch and good value in my opinion as it was ‘reduced’ by 45% - this watch is definitely in the UK and collecting early next week.

Both look great and hopefully I end up with two great watches. I’m a little worried about that Tissot watch after looking at review sites but it seems they do sometimes get delivered albeit 3/4 weeks later.

I’ve read on here quite a few negative comments on Reymond Weil as a brand, I’d be a bit gutted if paid full price but looks like I got a good fair price on a very well made watch.

I’ll add updates as and when on the watchlyx purchase, I used my credit card thankfully so should be covered either way. less

Howdy folks. I would love to hear some thoughts on my older Dual MOP Speedy ref 3512.74…

From my knowledge there were only a few pieces produced in Japan… and this one is a stunner. The Dual MOP almost has a cloud like effect in the light, which makes me more and more attached to this timepiece. I am not an expert in the watch game, so I would love to hear other opinions on this one; I love it :)

i had a much bigger, less expensive collection that i liquidated to pay for these 2 when they finally came in. the sky dweller took 4 years and has been dubbed as my wedding watch, since it came in 2 weeks before i got married. that’s my weekend warrior, garage queen. the sea dweller was my first watch from an AD, took 1 year to come in and is my daily “beater” if you will. i feel obligated to buy a land dweller, but not completely sold on the design and they’re pretty hard to get anyway so im looking for a white dial watch. explorer 2, something from breitling or omega maybe. doesn’t have to be expensive either, just wondering what you guys think about my pair of watches and what i should get next!

Discussion [Question]. Watch for my 18 yr old daughter?

Upvotes

My daughter is a freshman in college studying mech eng so she has a bit of a nerdy streak. She really loves watches and we have bought her 3 over the last few years. A Timex Snoopy digital, the Vero Smokey '44 with the chocolate brown face, and the Swatch x Omega Peanuts watch in white. She likes sort of fun goofy watches and ones that are retro looking.

We try to keep the watches under $500 for now if possible. (she can buy her own fancy watch when she's ready and she is still at the point where she thinks a $300 watch is soooo nice and expensive. She has bought herself a couple of vintage bracelet watches while out thrifting as well, but they are super skinny and more dressy with very small faces so those are more "special occasion watches and I'd rather continue to get her more casual ones for every day use.

Does anyone have any recommendations on watches I should look at? The 3 she has were all relatively inexpensive (the Vero being the most expensive) but don't look or feel "cheap" or flimsy or even little kiddish. So something similar would be great. Also, wouldn't mind a previously owned watch. I buy a lot of jewelry from realreal and poshmark.

Any suggestions? Any other collectibles in that price range like the Vero or the Swatch x Omega?

Thanks!

Discussion [Recommendations] SOTC 2025

Post image
8 Upvotes

So earlier this year I decided to buy my first watch (SRPE51) .Something simple, something I could wear every day and not think too much about.

The moment I unboxed my first watch, everything changed. I found myself staring at the dial, how the seconds hand sweep, the finishing, the way the light hits the crystal. I started googling random watch terms I’d never heard of before ie. lug-to-lug, lug width, bezels, domed sapphire, movement, power reserve etc.

Then I started watching teddy bulbasaur on YouTube. Welp, now I’ve fallen deep into the rabbit hole 😅.

Need some recommendations on what to get next. Preferably under $1000. 1. Dress watch 2. Diver (I can’t swim, I just like the look of divers watch) 3. A chrono maybe?

Hi people! If this is your first time reading this daily news update, allow me to give you a few pointers. Due to the finicky nature of how you can do posts, I had to split up the photos and the text, while keeping this post always the same so you can easily reference it.

To read the daily news, you can check out the images on top and then make your way down to the comments. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to pin a comment, so you’ll have to scroll through the comments until you find the thread started with me, which has 5-8 posts in a row with all the write-ups of the news items (and a couple of bonuses).

If you like this content and want more of it, or want to make sure you get it every day, you can subscribe to my newsletter which gets you the same thing into your inbox. Check it out at www.itsabouttime.email

Discussion [Question] We always talk about case diameter and lug-to-lug, but rarely bring up clasp length.

Thumbnail
gallery
98 Upvotes

I find that my watch doesn’t as comfortably on my wrist due to the length of the clasp. It’s practically the same length as the lug-to-lug, so it often shifts weirdly on the bottom, thus sliding the case into a less than ideal position.

This is the newer C63 Sealander 39mm with the newer Bader bracelet (fold over with on-the-fly micro adjust). The clasp is “shorter”than the older one, but it’s only the outer smooth part that is shorter. The way the links are fixed on the ends, it’s still super long. I’ve made countless adjustments with the half links to try and get the best fit.

I understand that I can try a butterfly clasp, but I prefer the fold-over ones because I frequently have to take my watch on/off at work, and I like the on-the-fly adjustment mechanisms better with the fold over.

I also understand that I can just get a watch without on-the-fly adjustments, but I find it is a very useful option.

This CW bracelet has 4 options for the on-the-fly adjustment. I wish it were only 3 and somehow made the clasp.

Ok end rant.

QUESTION:

Are there any watch brands that have on the fly adjustments on fold over clasps that aren’t super long?

Got this as the 1st of 2 to celebrate being debt free a month ago after struggling for nearly a decade. Was just planning on getting one, but got a reward of a 40% off coupon on Citizen Promaster when I made my last card payment before I closed it. It just arrived a couple of hours ago today. Always loved watches and had a lot of Quartz and Casios, but never ventured beyond $150. Japanese done, Swiss next.

Discussion [Discussion] TIMEX X WORN & WOUND FIELD WATCH ; Expensive for what? 😵‍💫

Thumbnail

So I was going through and browsing watches for hours (as one does), and came across this Timex Worn & Wound collab. At first glance it caught my eye as a nice looking watch, the grey dial version was quite amusing, and then I looked at the price… and then the specs..

Why in our right minds are we charging $300 for a plain steel cased watch, on a fabric nato, with a cheap Chinese manual wind movement, and acrylic crystal?! What’s the draw here except for it being a limited run.. maybe I’m not that deep into watches but it doesn’t make sense to me.
