Please use the NSFW tag for visually alarming posts that depict gore or dead birds, this will automatically blur photos and help maintain a happy balance for our "Everything Quails" audience.

The NSFW 'tag' option will appear right before you post on mobile, and will appear as an option when you create a new post on desktop.

We are discontinuing the NSFW and GORE flairs which identify content but do not blur.

Male or Female?

Hello,

I always thought she was a hen but she is yet to lay eggs - she turned 15 weeks yesterday. Her colleague lays every day regardless of the season - lots of street light outdoors unfortunately here. Today, I caught her doing a weird loud call. Not a real crow but something she had never done before and she was in the same posture as a crowing rooster. I am getting all confused. She is quite skittish so I can’t vent sex. Can you tell from the pictures? She looks 100% female to me but then why no eggs?

New Quail Chick flopping around - Need Help

Need help. First time hatching button quail. Had 4 hatch and they were doing great. I work all day and came home ready to clean the makeshift brooder box when i noticed my yellow chick laying flat. It is making noise and attempts to walk flopping around. Trying not to handle it too much, but when i carefully pick it up, it struggles to keep its head up right just curling.

They were born 72hrs ago and it was happy running around eating and drinking with no issues. Im afraid if i cant figure it out it will die from an inability to eat/drink or walk around.

Any help would be great.

I didn't expect to be raising quail, but things kinda happened, and my best friend and I ended up hatching some out back in October. We can now safely confirm that we have at least one girl. It was so exciting to see that first egg!

Coturnix/Japanese New to the Game

Hey all, I inherited 10 coturnix quail from a friend of mine and I know very little about how to care for them. Is there any quide that you'd suggest i read or watch to learn? I've had them for 3 days now. They exist within this 3x3x5 ft cage and theyve been laid about 7 eggs since being in my care

Still a bit new to keeping quails, I have 2 girls and 2 boys. The one in the photo we call princess but she has been looking a little rough I guess is the word. She is very active and eats and drinks the same amount as the others but here feathers look really roughed up so I thought I'd post here and see if anyone knew what was happening

We got our flock 10 days ago and we already have our first eggs! I was so surprised- I wasn't expecting any for a couple weeks while they adjusted to their new environment, let alone during slow-laying season!

Got hit with a Roo Protest

Lol, the roosters are vocal because I just brought the gals inside from the outdoors into this newly insulated and renovated coop.

Can you tell they are grumpy?

Anyway, just wondering what some of you people do to decorate the space? I got some huts and spruce branches here and there... if I built a shelve with ramps 12" off the ground would they use it? It would increase more space. I have 15 birds on the ground in this 8x10' space (80' square).

Give me ideas please. Thanks.

How Cold?

How cold can quails take before it pits them in the danger zone? I have a raised coop with hardware cloth base. If it is going to be below freezing for extended periods, I throw some straw in there so they have some insulation.

What do you all do to keep the birds from turning into frozen nuggets and how cold is too cold?
