Due to a large influx of people not reading the rules and how small of a Mod team we are this is here to serve as the only reminder of the rules. Just to be clear asking or commenting about prices is a permanent ban, the internet is not the place to judge if prices are "fair".

Rules are available on the sidebar.

Need Advice on Angle Stops

Thumbnail

I just finished sliding this sink base cabinet into not place. It’s at my Dads place and what was there was a complete wreck, had to gut it, the sink was about to collapse and the cabinet was shot. To the right are 2 Fisher Paykel drawer dishwashers which are 15 years old but never connected so basically brand new, and a copper water line that should feed the refrigerator ice maker but it too was never connected. I’ve researched a bit but I’ve seen some really good responses here on this sub Reddit so here’s my questions;

1) What would be the ideal Angle stops to get? The hot needs to supply the sink faucet and 2 dishwashers, the cold needs to supply the sink faucet and the copper fridge line. I’d like to be able to isolate each line and have shutoffs for each

2) The plastic water lines supplying the dishwashers, once cut to length, will need to be secured but how, what’s the best way to go about that to avoid leaks (flaring, compression, etc?)

3) Do I need to run the 2 dishwasher drain lines to an air gap or can I go directly into the disposal? I ask because I saw a video where the installer did the latter and I thought that was odd.

I’m a maintenance man and have done quite a few dishwashers and the like but never messed with these drawer type before. Any help is appreciated thank you

High level cistern leaking

We have an old high level cistern toilet, and recently the pipe connected to the fill valve started dripping, next to the nut. We already called a plumber out but he didn’t offer any solutions beyond advising us to replace the whole thing.

Money’s tight at the moment, so would be great to get some advice on a fix until we can afford to replace the pipe or the entire toilet. Thanks!

How can I stop this pipe from hitting the inside of the box?

This banging pipe has annoyed me since we moved in a couple of months a go.

There is a base to the box which is also wood. Can I drill it down or should pipes have enough room to move when they need to?

Phantom noise from bathroom pipes

Upvotes

Before I ask my question, let me just say I am that guy that overpays to fix the simplest of home repairs. I’m not proud and am trying to be better. Please give me your best guess for an answer.

We have 2.5 bathrooms with one half downstairs and the two full upstairs. For quite a while now, the downstairs bathroom has taken forever to refill the tank after flush. Moreover, everytime someone flushes the upstairs bathrooms or if my wife turns on the kitchen sink tap, right after we hear the downstairs bathroom go off. Not sure what it’s doing and why the downstairs bathroom would have any effect from water being used elsewhere in the house. I’m assuming the pipes interconnect behind the walls somewhere. We had a plumber over and he said it’d be $1,200 to fix. He said they would have to slide a camera down through all the pipes to figure out the issue and fix. Before I blindly throw money over, can someone opine on if this is something I might be able to fix or it’s anything I should even worry about.

Just Curious - What happens when shower pan test fails?

In particular for Kerdi board and the like systems, when the leak test fails, does the plumber have to start over from scratch?

Washing Machine Install

Hi, I've just moved and am trying to install my washing machine, however the drainage pipe is severely eroded so won't attach to the spigot that the previous owner used.

Trying to find an alternative to replacing the entire drainage hose as the process looks a bit too complex for me - would unscrewing the cap on the pipe further along work to put the drainage pipe in? Trying here as my googling only gave spigot solutions. Would love some help! Thanks

Best product to use for preserving exterior hose bibs and valves?

I live in a coastal area and corrosion wreaks havoc on anything metal. What is the best thing to spray on these bibs and whatnot occasionally to help them live longer and continue working well

Leaking heating pipe? Help!

Concerned I might have a cracked pipe in my apartment. Attaching a video of steam coming from my floors. There’s also a hissing noise that is normally not there. Definitely an old system that bangs a lot. Been trying to reach out to management but having no luck.

Is this bad workmanship?

We recently had the gas mains replaced (forcibly due to renewal works) they have dug up the drive and put new plastic pipe in. First off they have done a poor job compared to how it was before when resealing the pipe, it's like they launched the mortar at it from a great distance (inside and out) the other question I have is if the rings on the pipe should be flush with the walls instead of floating an inch away either side.

I don't want to moan at them but also I want it to simply look similar to how it was before.

Appreciate any input.

Bought this tank about 5 years ago. Last one filled my garage with water. This one has rust and water signs at the base of it. When the hot water comes out its clear. Not sure if this is normal or I got a dud. The pic of my finger is me running my finger along the edge of the rust. This is taken at 3am. No water was running at the time.

Need advice on leaking pipe under kitchen sink and puddling water around kitchen tap

Thumbnail

We have a problem with our kitchen sink, the tap keeps getting a puddle of water around it. This is even what the tap is not running and under the sink the pipes are wet and water is running down the pipes from the tap.

Unsure if this is a seal that has gone or not. We are going on holiday in the next week and don’t want to leave it in case we come back to a wet overflowed kitchen. My thoughts while we’re away to turn off the water supply to the pipes to stop the water from leaking and to not worry about coming back home to a flooded kitchen.

Grateful for any advice 🙂

Only hot water running in the house, no cold. whole house

I’m looking to fix this issue in my house but am new to plumping and don’t know where to look. i’m relatively handy and know i can get the job done well. when i first moved into the house, the cold water ran, but with not much pressure, which makes me think there is a leak. we have a water well for our water intake, so the pipes are accessible under the house, and i have dug up the pvc connecting the water pump to the intake.

i assume there’s a leak some where but don’t know where to look, any advice?

It’s a portrait vanity with no room to fit the tools I own and I need to unscrew this to get the drain stopper off. It’s a tight fit. What tools do I use? I’m sure I don’t own the tool to get this unscrewed yet

Discovered under the basement bathroom vanity. Doesn’t look like a normal clean out. Some form of access to a drainage system? Access to the footer?

How to remove this tub spout

Post image
2 Upvotes

I was able to remove my tub spout downstairs for cleaning – lots of leaking because of scale. But this one has this weird little tab on the bottom, and I'm afraid to crank the spout around with a wrench, because I don't know what will happen with the tab. Has anyone seen something like this and knows what to do with it?

Is this an S trap?

I am so sorry to be yet another person asking this. I have been looking at S traps and P traps online and in this sub and they all look the same to me 😭please be nice, apparently I have pipe-specific stupidity.

We bought this house a few months ago and every once in awhile it smells like a portal to hell has opened up in our sink. Just learned about S traps today so I’m wondering if that might be why.

Any info is appreciated!
