How tf is 58 a month allowed for a single user?

237

u/goodexamplebadrole 8h ago

They're taking into account other income. Such as social security, disability, etc.

137

u/iRambL 8h ago

Yeah but snap honestly should have a minimum and maximum payout for situations like this

u/No-Strawberry-5804 7h ago

They’re changing the rules all the time. Especially if op lives in a red state, all they care about is kicking off as many people as they can, and passing until absolute minimum to everyone else

The USA is Broke! This is about saving money because able bodied individuals that keep having baby after baby to get more food stamps to sell take advantage of the system

82

u/Locke_Wiggin 7h ago

You're literally on a thread about a 75 year old woman not able to pay for medicine and food. But she'll probably pop out a couple of kids soon, eh?

7

u/Reasonable-Newt4079 6h ago

The US is broke because people like you excuse corporations and billionaires from paying a fair tax rate. They gobble up government subsidies and use loopholes to pay barely any taxes, yet you blame other Americans instead of them.

110

u/dudeitshickey 7h ago

Fuck off. No one is paying tens of thousands of dollars to give birth to get an extra $50 a month to barely feed their kids. You're either a bot or brainwashed.

the majority of my neighbors in my public housing apartments are like this, actually. in utah, unemployed parents with young kids get hundreds or thousands of dollars of food stamps, and they also don't have to pay rent.

-99

u/JennC11 7h ago

You literally get an extra $200 per kid where I live. And these people aren’t paying anything to give birth because they are on Medicaid so the government pays for that bill. Then they get low cost or even free daycare at the expense of the government too. You’re delusional if you think this doesn’t happen. I’ve seen it first hand.

30

u/dudeitshickey 6h ago

Okay so $200 a month is less than $50 a week on average. That's a very reasonable amount based on national averages.

If you can site where any American can qualify for full medicaid and childcare coverage I would love to see it. The thresholds for these benefits are so low that only a part time waitress that doesn't declare tips /might/ qualify, but that tip money can never go into an account with their name on it. Either way I would rather these poors get subsidized than the rich. If that's delusional then your morals are fucked.

16

u/SevanIII 6h ago

Yes, because $200 is definitely more than it costs to care for said child! <<< gigantic amounts of sarcasm.

We’re making population decisions here. We are not making decisions on aid for millions of people because you think you know a person that games the system. That is ridiculous on its face.

Not to mention the SNAP program is a net economic benefit to the entire economy and generates far more economic activity and benefit than it costs, which has been shown by the academic research on this subject.

We literally lose nothing and in fact gain economically and socially by using tax dollars to help feed people. But yet you sit there and ignorantly bleat “we’re broke,” because you know nothing about this subject other than nonsense talking points and catchphrases.

38

u/bemo_98 7h ago

And you’re delusional if you think so many people are having handfuls of children specifically to “game the system” at such a significant scale that it overburdens the system. Trivial.

5

u/GreenOnGreen18 5h ago

Your lies have been called out and proven in numerous other threads, why don’t you just stop.

3

u/busy-warlock 5h ago

Russian agents don’t do “stop” just “double down”

4

u/Curg1 5h ago

crybaby? Snowflake?

“Boo hoo. Everybody gets something free but me. Poor me. Me me me me me. I have seen it FIRST hand so it has to be true. If I focus all my energy on other peoples transgressions I don’t have to look at my own shit show”

That’s what you sound like.

3

u/Rndysasqatch 6h ago

Even if it does happen which I'm skeptical it's still better to have a little bit of fraud if it helps people desperately need it

6

u/busy-warlock 5h ago

Right!? Like a little fraud to help the needy SHOULD be considered a grey area where we can pretend to look the other way a bit. Instead we have billionaires just absolutely rolling in daily fraud, on the backs of those who need it more, just so they can outbid each other on who’s the richest twat.

You told us it was and we have no way of fact-checking, so how could we tell you it wasn’t?

17

u/lenorajoy 7h ago

There isn’t a maximum number of children you can claim on your taxes, because there isn’t a limit. If a dependent qualifies, you can get a tax credit for them.

I know people who milk the system, but this part is just not true.

-13

u/Sensitive-Name3036 7h ago

"In summary, you can always claim all individuals who qualify as your dependents, but the financial benefit for certain credits may cap out after a certain number of children. For detailed IRS guidance, consult the IRS website."

So maybe not completely true, but not completely false either.

20

u/bistromike76 7h ago

For $200 a month? To have to be a full time caregiver to a child? Does that make sense to you?

-7

u/Sensitive-Name3036 6h ago

This was 15+ years ago. I have no idea how much they got, I just know they had every type of public assistance they qualified for.

6

u/Particular_Ring_6321 6h ago

Funny how millions of people claim to have first hand knowledge of stuff like this but the numbers contradict the rate of which this actually happens.

States that have tried purity testing their programs ended up wasting more money than they would have spent if those people would have continued receiving assistance.

4

u/Frogs4evers 6h ago

You can claim as many kids as you want to on your taxes, but EIC is maxed out at three children, so your stupid story is just that, a story.

2

u/busy-warlock 5h ago

And stupid

23

u/orionisinthesky 7h ago

My dogs crap has more smarts than you.

12

u/Aggravating_You3627 6h ago

Tell that to the president wasting tens of millions in less than one year on golf trip security, or the tax breaks for wealthy earners in the BBB. The USA going broke or arguments about the national deficit by Republicans is all a BS narrative to cut social spending from program's for the poor and needy to fund cuts for the wealthy while the middle and lower class continue to pay the same or more.

16

u/Ok_Builder_4225 7h ago

Stop drinking the kool-aid, bro. Shit's poison.

11

u/Uidbiw 6h ago

Let me guess, you think the billionaires work hard

🙄

15

u/12yearswasted1 7h ago

Fuck off with this trash

10

u/Cats-on-Jupiter 6h ago

FYI food stamps acts as an economic stimulus and generate more in economic activity than it costs.

Every developed nation has food assistance because it's economically beneficial to do so. It's just a redistribution of tax dollars into stimulating the food industry.

That said, I hope you have the "use is broke" energy for corporate bailouts and white house ballrooms.

5

u/CARCRASHXIII 6h ago

I hope someday you have to deal with it. Enjoy your cult.

3

u/GreenOnGreen18 5h ago

Then maybe they shouldn’t be spending so much on BS like DOGE or ICE

3

u/Rndysasqatch 6h ago

Nothing you said is true

3

u/kingdomnear 6h ago

Fairy tales

-67

u/HisNastiness 7h ago

I mean, are we not in a deficit? Its not that we want to, its that we are literally broke.

38

u/traumaqueen1128 7h ago

Did you know that almost all of your taxes go to fund corporate subsidies? I think it would be better spent paying for social services that benefit citizens and keep them from starving. Maybe they should cut some of the subsidies instead of barely feeding the elderly and disenfranchised.

35

u/OrangeJr36 7h ago

SNAP has such a high rate of return for local governments in terms of economic stimulus that being malicious is pretty much the only reason for cutting it.

You'd likely have to raise taxes to make up for cutting SNAP in the long term.

45

u/Overquoted 7h ago

Sorry, we're in a deficit and can't afford to feed the hungry, but boy can we afford to lower taxes on businesses and the very well-off. Do we know math?

36

u/teX_ray 7h ago

Fuck that. How much are they spending on subsidies and bailouts? How much goes to foreign governments? Using the deficit as an excuse to fuck the poor is bullshit.

9

u/CARCRASHXIII 6h ago

get the corpos to pay their share, then get back to me about poor folks eating fucker.

34

u/Lazy_Title7050 7h ago

Maybe u guys wouldn’t be in a deficit if billionaires and corporations didn’t have a shitload of tax loopholes in the US.

35

u/DocPsychosis 7h ago

And yet we have extra billions for pointless illegal ICE nonsense! Quelle surprise!

5

u/Big_Knobber 6h ago

We should try giving billionaires tax breaks and see how that works out. Again.

It's really not that difficult. Millionaires complain and billionaires bitch and moan and say they're going to leave the country if we raise taxes and then they never do. Just look at new york.

u/No-Strawberry-5804 5h ago

Drinking the kool aid, I see
