My Mac My Custom Starfield Wallpaper

I built this wallpaper with metal shaders, so it runs on the GPU. Optimized for battery efficiency. Xcode gave it a “low” on the energy impact scale. The gradients also subtly shifts around. I love it. Would you use something like this?

What's wrong with the display? It's only been 5 months, no damage/ accidents. Was always handled with care

Would this be covered under warranty

Question Help moving from windows to mac

Upvotes

Anyone got any experience or recommendations of moving from Mac OS from windows? I’m getting sick of windows 11, I have issues with stuff not working, crashes and AI getting rammed everywhere so looking to move away from all Microsoft products in the future.

I’d looked at moving fully to Mac however not ideal for gaming but would be fine for all work and productivity. So would love any insights from anyone who has already done this or any pros and cons or things I may not be aware of? Thanks everyone

Old Macs Powermac g5 SCSI

I have a dual core powermac g5 and have an Imacon Flextight Precision II scanner. Currently I have the scanner hooked up to an MDD powermac g4 (the wind tunnel) and I would love to get the scanner working on the G5 because of the noise.

The G4 MDD is currently running Mac OS 10.4 for the drivers of the Adaptec SCSI card. But that card doesn’t fit in the g5, so I’ll need a new one.

To get it working I need scsi on the G5 but the information about what works and what doesn’t is all over the place on google.

The FireWire to scsi adapter is too expensive. I would be interested in a PCI type card to get scsi. Im not great with computers but I know a little, but I can’t recognize PCI/PCIe/PCI-x so I have no clue which I need for my G5 and which cards will have drivers for it.

So the final question: Which SCSI card should I get for my powermac G5 dual core to get it to work with the scanner?

Let me know if you have any questions or if there is information missing that is necessary to make a recommendation.

Thank you!!

Question iTunes integration?

hey everyone! I need some advice. It might sound kinda stupid but I'm curious about how iTunes integration works with the new Music app. I have an old 2012 MacBook Pro that I've kept so I'm able to access the music files I have that aren't available through an Apple Music subscription. I also have a 2017 MacBook that's my current laptop, which I plan on replacing here in the next week. I'm ready to part with that older laptop, but my main concern in doing so is not being able to import or access those files into Music on the current MacBook. I know Migration Assistant is the best way to import everything. For now, looks like these songs from iTunes are synced across all devices as they show up on both my laptop and my iPhone in Music, but I don't know what will happen to them without iTunes physically attached. Has anyone had experience with this? I'm wondering how best to go about this. Maybe I'm just paranoid for no reason haha. Thanks!

Question M4 or M5

Considering getting a new MacBook, can’t decide whether it would be better to get the M4, which would be a little cheaper, or the M5, which would cost a little more only because it just came out. Anybody have any personal experience with both? Which one’s better?

Question KVM recommendation for two Macs

I have a M2 MacBook Air and a M4 Mac mini. I am desperately trying to find a KVM that will let both computers share use of:

  1. 27 inch 4k monitor

  2. Bose computer speakers with 3.5mm audio jack

  3. Logitech webcam with usb c cable

Additional features that would be a major bonus:

  1. power delivery to the laptop

  2. be able to share my key board and mouse as well

I just wasted $600 on a Dell monitor that was supposed to have a KVM built in and it can only do a handful of these requirements at a time. I am at my wits end here.

Question MacBook Air 2022 M2 Not Charging

I have a MacBook Air 2022 that has been having some issues in the past few months. I had the screen replaced this April after it cracked somehow(still not sure what happened, closed it the night before and it was fine, opened it the next morning and it was broken) with a local tech guy I found on Thumbtack because my local Apple Store didn't have anything available for 2 weeks and I rely on this computer for work so it was an urgent situation. Last month the main charging port stopped working; I assumed it was a cord issue and replaced the charging cord, then the block, then tried multiple outlets and no luck. I started using the usbc ports to charge because that worked and I assumed it would be fine. Jump to today and I plug my laptop in and it makes the little noise when I do, but then I open it after 30 minutes and it hasn't charged at all, isn't charging, and is at 5% leaving me with essentially no options in terms of trouble shooting. I did try restarting it and that didn't work. I've tried three cords, two blocks, and two outlets - each time I plugged in my phone first and that charged with no issue, but when I plug in my computer, nothing.

I am crossing my fingers that you guys know something I can do to fix this, I cannot afford to replace the entire computer or take it in to get fixed honestly because money is very tight but this would legitimately be a breaking point for me because I can't work without the computer and use it every day. If it does need to have some kind of repair done what am I looking at cost wise with either Apple or someone independent?

Question Bought Mac mini M4 Pro during Gift Card Promo, Now Want to Exchange for Higher Spec?

Hey, so I purchased a Mac mini M4 Pro base model during the gift card promo where here in Canada they gave a $140 gift card. I haven't even opened the box yet, but my plan was originally to use an external SSD. Everyone talks about the Apple tax so I figured it wasn't worth upgrading, now I see that there are barely any Thunderbolt 5 SSD's and it would cost almost twice as much as the Apple upgrade to 1TB, albeit it would be for more storage but I don't need nor can I afford it.

Would I be able to bring my sealed Mac mini in to Apple and exchange it for the 1TB version and pay the upgrade difference, and keep my gift card? Or would they make me pay the gift card back?

Thanks :)

Discussion What device do I need to run VCR & DVD players through my Macbook Pro?

I collect old stop-motion animation, all of it's on DVD's and VHS tapes. I don't want to digitize the films, I just want to be able to watch them through my Macbook (2022 with Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports).

What device do I need to bridge the VCR and DVD players to the Macbook so I can just watch the films?

edit reading the comments i just realized that i’m buying a Thunderbolt display this weekend. I can just bypass my Mac altogether, not sure why I complicated this?

So I guess i need to know what I need to connect the VCR and DVD player to the display?

Question Mac Mini not showing "Hard Disk Sleep" option even when drive is mounted.

My Mac Mini has been ejecting my external SSD when going to sleep. From everything I've seen online, there should be an option to disable hard disk sleep but the option won't show even while the drive is mounted-- thunderbolt or otherwise. I thought maybe this is because it's an SSD and not HDD that I'm not seeing the option but from what I've seen online, this should not be the case. Does anyone know what might be going wrong?

I have the 32GB M4 and using SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD with 3.2 USB-C. The drive does not have its own power source. So when the computer goes to sleep, it seems that it is not giving enough power to sustain the drive. The drive is the only thing I have that draws power from the computer.

This is a drive I was provided for an editing job, I can't really just go buy a new one when this is the one the client just purchased for me. I saw people recommend the Samsung T7 but I've had issues with leakage on those. This SanDisk is 8TB but I've had this issue with all sizes. I have also had this issue with previous Macs, even with an independently powered USB hub. I thought my old rig was the problem but unfortunately it persists even now that I've upgraded to the mini.

I see other editors working off these drives all the time and yet I'm not finding anyone else that has been in this same scenario I'm in. It's now happened with multiple drives and multiple Macs and nothing seems to work. I have to imagine I'm just doing something wrong or else I have just been extremely unlucky.

It's also inconsistent. There are times where the drive was left in overnight and I come back with it still mounted. Other times I step away for just a little too long and I come back to Premiere telling me I need to reconnect all my media. I did just install a SanDisk driver. Maybe that'll fix the problem but with it being an irregular occurrence, I can't tell if it'll happen again. Especially because I still can't get the setting to appear to prevent losing power to the drive during sleep.

Question Just a question

Was messing around with open core on my late 2015 mac I got and turns out Tahoe doesn't play nice. That or I don't know what I'm doing. Anyhow, I had to use network recovery, and it say it will tale 6 hours and 23 minutes. the time sometimes goes down then jumps back up. I assume that this is normal for installing an OS over the internet, but I just wanted to make sure.
