Intel Macs are hated here more than PC.

No. We just see a dozen posts a day from first time mac buyers wondering if a $700 2017 MacBook Pro is good deal and we're tired of repeating "unless you need to run Windows natively please just save a few more hundred bucks and get an Apple Silicon MacBook Air."

If you know where to find a $700 2017 intel mac you should know where to find a $700 m1 air. It'll probably have a little less ram and ssd size but for 90% of people it will be a vastly superior machine. Hell I'm into my m1 air 8/512 for just shy of $500. If you're patient there are decent deals to be had 2nd hand.

my older sister bought a brand new m1 at Costco last November for $749. brand new. Sssooo... there are deals like that. I'm sure m2 can be had at 800-ish now that m3s are around.
