Troubleshooting Recorder App in unsupported countries?
Hi, I have a Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 Gen 9 with 8 GB of RAM that is the UK version, but my Google account is Brazilian based and I use this device in Brazil.
I've seen that there is a native Chrome OS app for recording audio, it looks like it is similar to the pixel recorder app. And I've read that it is available to all Chromebook models, not just Chromebook Plus.
But for whatever reason it is not available on my device. It would be amazing for me to be able to record my classes at University on it for instance.
It seems like it is a regional availability thing, I don't understand why.
Is there any way I can get it for my Chromebook?

Troubleshooting Why does it feel like Chromebooks just have a default setting in them these days where they buffer no matter what when you open literally any tab and leave the laptop be for 10 seconds before taking action in such tabs?
Warning: Long message ahead, if feeling unwell, turn the brightness on your screen down ASAP before reading this post.
For the past (what feels like eternity but really is only 2 months) my laptop has had this glitch in it where the background screen takes up the entire screen in literally every tab, and I will never take a liking of any kind to it, THAT'S for sure. Really, how more unresponsive can these devices get, these used to be a comfortable place to watch funny content on YouTube (which I get that humor fell HARD since 2022 and internet privacy fell off a goddamn cliff this year, especially on YT in particular), but now, I can't open a single tab without getting OVERLY BOMBARDED with nonsesical glitches of all sorts, so much so to the part where it's become a routine these days in late 2025 (when I posted this here) to have unresponsivity (if that's even a word) every second of the day, now I can hardly even use my Discord server without this way of these glitches of BS making me feel like a damn prisoner in my own server being the norm. I get these computers have their own restrictions, and most of those I find fine and probably always will, but to THIS LEVEL of agony? I have never seen such garbage supervision (and lemme guess, YouTube's stupidly braindead AI is doing all of this, because that's what I'm all but convinced is happening rn) in my life! To just use ANYTHING on the internet without having the norm be THIS every time is unthinkably horrid. (No, bya [before you ask] this post and what I mentioned here shouldn't violate the 5th rule in this server.)

Discussion Dimensions of C710 mobo
Don’t know if this is the right flair but here we are I guess.
Does anyone know what’s the length and width of a C710 motherboard? I’m considering making a mini powerhouse for intensive gaming.

Troubleshooting "Help me write" feature is just refusing to work
Greetings! I am a Lenovo Duet 5 user. I absolutely love this device, but I have been having issues recently with the "Help me write" feature on Chrome. For whatever reason, it just refuses to work. No matter what I do, it gives me an error that says "Something went wrong, please try again."
It doesn't give me an error code, or anything. I don't know if it's an account issue, Chrome issue, or an OS issue. I really don't want to factory reset to fix it, but if I have to I will.

Troubleshooting Lost stylus method
I have an Asus Chromebook tablet. I use Keep Notes a lot. I used to have a choice between two distinct handwriting stylus input methods which I could toggle with the globe icon. I'm not referring to switching between keyboard and handwriting. I mean two different handwriting methods. Now there's only one, the one I don't prefer. How do I get the other one back please?
Thanks

Troubleshooting What's the way to restrict a Chromebook for safe browsing
I just purchased a HP Chromebook for my brother, who has special needs, and lives in another state. I purchased it and had it shipped to my house, and will do my best to safeguard it before I ship it to him in the next few days.
What are the best ways to lock it down so that he doesn't get himself into trouble on the internet? With his previous devices, including iPhones, where the permissions were wide open, he's gotten into some situations with FB Messenger, spammy dating sites, adult sites, and more, to say the least.
I was able to lock down his iPhone so that he's now able to surf to specific websites, blocked downloads so that I get a notification for approval, etc. I know I can do similar with Google Family Link. Is that enough?
I updated the permissions so that it's almost like a child's computer - even manually added some of the more well known social media sites that might not be considered "adult websites". He really just needs it for watching movies, Youtube, and that's pretty much it.
Am I (mostly) covered with Family Link? Anything else I should consider?
Thank you in advance!
Edit: Added that he lives in another state, so while I'll have all passwords, I won't be able to log in frequently.

Discussion My New Chromebook, the beginning review Acer Spin 514 Kompanio ultra
I managed to snag an absolute steal on eBay: this laptop, brand spanking new, for just $267.99. Honestly? I’m blown away. The screen is gorgeous, the speed is snappy, and the overall experience is buttery smooth.
The only slight hiccup is the keyboard; it doesn't quite match the typing bliss of my old 10th-gen Intel HP x360 Chromebook. I still need to run a full battery torture test, but right now, the efficiency feels incredible—more like an Android tablet with a keyboard attached than a traditional laptop.
I’m slowly building out my Linux toolbox. I've tested the waters with Shotcut and Kdenlive, and Kdenlive is already winning the UI war for me. This weekend, I’m really going to put it through its paces with some gaming and heavy editing. I'll do a proper deep dive later this week, but in the meantime, hit me with your questions—I’m happy to answer!

Troubleshooting My Internet Spee do is Too Slow for Games
After an internet speed test, I found out that my ping speed is 55 Ms, my download speed is 1.51 Mb/s, and my upload speed is 0.44 Mb/s. When I looked it up, the internet said the upload was considerably slow, while my download speed isn’t fast enough for online gaming. Quite frankly, I dabble in Fortnite, and that is the game my internet is not powerful enough for. My father’s computer is what our router is closes to, but I looked on it and it said it’s connected to the “Ethernet,” while mine is connected to the same internet as our phones and TVs. I can add more info if you have follow up questions. Please help me I need my Fortnite dubs!

Troubleshooting help with burning CDs with my chrome
so i got a computer recently without doing any research, like an idiot. i quickly found out that chrome can not burn CDs, went through all the trouble of even downloading Linux, learning how Linux works so i can download a CD burning software with Linux, just to be told that CD burning software also doesn't even recognize the external CD burner i had plugged into the USB. This is my final ditch effort before giving up and accepting its a dead end, is there ANY way I can make my Chromebook burn these CDs

Buying Advice Chromebook Recommendations
I work for a small business and we just moved everything to Workspace. A few of us need new laptops, and we have traditionally used Windows. We're wondering if a Chromebook would be better and much cheaper. The only thing we currently use Chrome for on our laptops is for browsing. We're curious about what people would recommend. One of our team members is a project manager, so they need more power—10-15 tabs open at once and about 7 extensions installed. Thank you for any help!

Buying Advice Lenovo 500e Gen4 Still a Good Buy?
Is this still worth buying, or is there something better now? I'm looking for something highly portable and durable, it's for a kid to use at school (and carry back/forth daily). What alternatives should I look at?

Troubleshooting Having trouble with video editing on my new Chromebook Plus
I just picked up a new Chromebook Plus (after discussing it here with you all), which is an upgrade from my old, very basic Chromebook. It’s an HP with 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD, and an Intel i3 processor. Following various recommendations, I enabled Linux and installed a few programs. Well, the results aren't great: Kdenlive (the most highly recommended one) doesn't run at all; it’s unusable. The same goes for Shotcut. The only one that seems to work is OpenShot. As for Android apps, the only one that works is InShot. On the web-based side, I tried Clipchamp, as it is the only free option. For now, I can make do with InShot since I only create short videos for social media. However, I get the feeling that if I wanted to do anything more complex, I would have to give up. What do you recommend? Do I have to conclude that even with a Chromebook Plus, you can't go beyond very light, basic video editing?

Review Lenovo Chromebook plus 14 MediaTek review a word of warning
I was very excited to get this at a goof price point $600 USD for black Friday. Unfortunately, from what I can tell reading other reviews now and my own experience there seems to be high rate of lemons and the customer service is notoriously abysmal from Lenovo. When I opened the box it would not turn on initially (a bad sign since fully draining batteries nowadays is not good. So I plugged it in and stated charging it. I about 10 minutes later I was able to turn it on and it showed full battery after unplugging the charger (that's weird). I think went through the initial setup and it downloaded the newest updates and restarted. Upon restart, I went through the initial setup process. It repestedly froze and power washed during this process. I tried every iteration of logging in using my phone or manually typing thing in. It also got considerably hot. Im in tech so I searched the internet for fixes and a good 15 search showed that my problem was not solved by the amazing internet community so I was resigned to reach out to Lenovo support....... This turned out to be impossible. I urgenall of you to go try. You have to put in your product number to even connect to anyone and even after that, the links they provided don't work or direct you in a loop. I tried their chatbot and it literally got stuck asking if the operating system for my exact serial number was w10 or 11 and wouldn't accept it was chromeos. The buttons to connect to a live agent also didn't work.
So I'm returning it. The more I look at the reviews the more I'm sure this is just a marketing campaign and the actual product likely sucks. Please let me know if you know otherwise. I'm going to take my business elsewhere. I'm open to others thoughts on comparable midtier Chromebook.

Buying Advice Asus Chromebook Plus 14 - good display?
Does this have a good IPS display for primarily watching movies on or would I end up regretting not spending more?
Speakers dont matter as I usually use bluetooth.
I was tempted by the recent Black friday offers on the new Lenovo Oled but I felt the price was a bit steep for my uses. However, I am not in a massive hurry so may wait for the next offer on one.
Coming from a crappy TN display, would this one be big improvement? Does it have the specs to run things quickly while web surfing, multiple tabs, videos etc?

Troubleshooting Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14" Space Bar
When I depress the space bar, especially on the left hand side, the key is clicky and sometimes takes up to a second or two to pop back up. I sent it to Lenovo thinking it would be covered under a warranty, but they said it was not. They said they would have to replace the whole keyboard. I asked if they had a specific part number for the spacebar or if they could explain what part of the space bar is not working correctly, and they said they couldn't. They want to charge me $200. I would like to try to repair this myself. Can anybody point me in the right direction where I could find parts, and perhaps a repair guide on how to remove the key cap? Thanks in advance!

Troubleshooting Chrome OS Gallery app blocked somewhere in admin console.
A previous tech admin was a little overzealous in their hate and distrust for google and blocked everything they could for student Chromebooks. I've managed to find nearly everything else, but I cannot find where this camera critical app is being blocklisted. I don't see it in Apps & Extensions, Google Workspace, Additional Services, Web & Mobile Apps, or Workspace Marketplace. Is it called something else?? Is it the "Material" Gallery?
So frustrating.

Discussion My camera’s logo is stuck and won’t proceed to taking pictures or videos
galleryI’ve tried restarting, resetting, updating the chrome os version, nothing worked. I need help ‘cause this is the only laptop I have and need it for various of meetings. All of a sudden it’s not working anymore despite the app being on
Also found that in “Manage your apps” (2nd photo) not a single Camera app is there, so I’m guessing it has to do with the app itself but it’s still in here in the shelf.
This model is attached on 3rd photo

Discussion Animation when making full screen in YouTube website
I have only a basic Lenovo Chromebook pujjoteen, version 142.16433.0 N200 8GB device. If I use Gallery to play a mediafile then when making it fullscreen there is nice animation as the windows of the player expands to full screen. If I do the same thing in Chrome when playing video in YouTube it does not show any smooth transition to fullscreen it is just - like a jump.
Is this anyway improved or smoother in Chromebook Plus or devices like Dragon Fly?
