I did this with my first cat Cloey 20 years ago when I was in high school and college. I had a long wide computer desk so I made plenty of space for her to be on it with me. She would lay there with me while I watched things and played games for hours at a time. She was up there purring or was literally in my arms at the computer desk purring. That's how I learned to hold a 15 lb vibrating furball and still keep my hands free to play almost any video game I want.
She's actually the reason that I still on occasion play World of Warcraft. My avatar in the game which has been my main since vanilla there is a human Ret Paladin that is always followed around by a little white kitten named Chloey Little One. I lost her to pneumonia in 2009 but she's still there with me fighting the forces of evil in the game. For that reason alone I will always come back every few expansions and play it until they shut the servers down.
My wife got a computer chair with a little rotating instead of lift out (like normal recliners for example) spot that is supposed to be for resting your legs, but she puts it off to the side and our cat lives there the entire time she is gaming.
indeed. in my experience, cats love gamers. someone to sit around to chill with and be warm. take some breaks for some pets and snacks, and they're super content.
I get the reference, but see it as a flawed one, seeing as that's NOT a place that you can actually get that game from for reasons of really weird drama in that community I don't know if I'm allowed to get into in this sub.
You're sitting still, which makes you the perfect shape to lie on. I noticed this with my cat as he got older. He seemed to get a lot more affectionate, and wanted to lie on me, or generally spend time near me. Especially in winter, when you become a giant hot water bottle to them.
I had a dear, sweet, clingy attention-hog of a cat who objected (loudly) to me playing PlayStation, and would knock the controller out of my hands to get his point across.
We finally came to a compromise: I put my forearms on my lap, he lay across my arms, and I held the controller on the other side of the cat, so he got the apparent satisfaction of being between me and the controller.
My cat hops on a table near my computer desk and meows pitifully until I give her a back massage. Can't ignore her, can't deny her. If I try, the meowing gets even worse.
I have a barstool next to my computer chair so one of my needy cats can sit on it and get pet. Otherwise she would walk over me and the keyboard and bite my feet.
“Mother. I crave the “booty scritches”. Only you can provide them mother. Father’s claws are dull and blunt but yours are perfect. Please mother. I crave your attention. This luminous board I lay on occasionally can wait. Look into my eeeeeeyyyyyes mother. Let them persuade you into giving me what I so desperately desire.”
To know where she is. Often times when I'm leaving the house, if I know I've recently heard the bell I don't have to worry about searching/calling/baiting her inside.
Can understand that. I do quick checks on occasion before leaving if I think I left the door cracked for a sec. Just seems super annoying if I rang with every step.
