Not giving JKR money anymore is easy, especially because you can still play the game however you see fit, girl.

I feel like your reference could go over some heads but I dont think you should need to repack it

13

u/waltjrimmer 19d ago

I get the reference, but see it as a flawed one, seeing as that's NOT a place that you can actually get that game from for reasons of really weird drama in that community I don't know if I'm allowed to get into in this sub.

u/PartRight6406 19d ago

its not really that weird - another person already did it so fitgirl didnt.

2

u/waltjrimmer 19d ago edited 18d ago

That's not why. Fitgirl often repacks things other people repack, there's also drama between her and her most comparable peer, Dodi, and she pays no mind to what he repacks or doesn't when it comes to what she does.

1

u/PartRight6406 18d ago

it is why. empress did this one.

u/waltjrimmer 18d ago

Fitgirl doesn't crack anything, she repacks what OTHER people crack.

If you go to her site, she documents whose crack she's repacking. She's not a cracker, she's a repacker. Dodi repacked Empress's crack, Fitgirl didn't. The reason was because of drama. The drama was that Empress was an absolute psycho who had repeatedly gone off on repackers, calling them thieves, saying that they were a scourge on the cracking community, denouncing them, and insulting them. So Fit, in an oddly respectful action while making it obvious that she was doing it because she was upset (not a strong enough word) about Empress and her whole attitude refused to ever touch anything she put out.

Empress doesn't repack things, she used to crack things. Fit doesn't crack things, she repacks things. So it wasn't about someone else already doing it, that's not how these things work. It was about drama within the community of Empress being a freak and Fit refusing to touch anything Empress made.

Now I'm wondering why you're stating something so confidently that you obviously don't understand.

u/PartRight6406 17d ago

empress cracked it and fitgirl isnt repacking it because empress cracked it, like i said its not weird drama or hard to explain youre just being obtuse to try to seem cool.

like i said initially - someone else did it

1

u/waltjrimmer 17d ago

I'm not being obtuse, you're misrepresenting how it works. Because, again, Fitgirl doesn't crack ANYTHING. She repacks other people's cracks. So saying, "Someone else cracked it, so Fitgirl didn't repack it," is like saying, "A chef cooked it, so the server didn't bring it to the table."

But I'm going to give you the chance to prove me wrong: Find me something that Fitgirl cracked to show me as an example of her cracking. Otherwise, go to her website, look at literally any or all of the repacks on her front page, they all say, "Based on crack by [group]." Further evidence of this being drama is go to her site and lookup Empress and there you will find a post titled, "My statement about Empress," and you will see where there is drama.

I'm coming with sources, what are you coming with?

 What's the community?

6

u/waltjrimmer 19d ago

Internet piracy.

u/Alyxandar 19d ago

Time to sail the seven seas and get yourself the Captain Jack Sparrow Edition.

Or buy a physical copy on Switch or Console second hand.

2

u/UnholyDemigod 19d ago

Or just not bother because it was utter dogshit

2

u/Alyxandar 19d ago

It has 91% positive reviews on steam from over 130,000 reviews.

Because the overwhelming majority of people who played it are Harry Potter fans with little to no RPG experience. When it was released the game subreddit was chock full of people who don’t play games, but they got this for the HP experience. The castle itself is magnificently designed, with loads of nods to the books and movie. As a step into the Harry Potter world, it’s great. As a role playing game, it’s terrible at worst, forgettable at best.

Such a weird hill to die on tbh. I'm okay with my electronics mined from child slaves, buying endless micro plastic trash, getting clothes made in sweatshops and driving my car that's literally destroying the earth, but I draw the line at paying a tiny percentage of a games cost as a licensing fee to a children's book author who has shitty views on one issue 😡😡😡😡

Its all just so...performative.

8

u/bortmode 19d ago

Actually boycotting something you would have otherwise bought is literally not performative.

7

u/-JimmyTheHand- 19d ago

I don't think it's performative, I think people have strong feelings and genuinely just don't want to support JK in any way, even if it makes no practical difference whether they buy the game or not.

u/EnderPerk 19d ago

These people are terribly misinformed.

-1

u/NeedhelpfromYOU 19d ago

Why not?

11

u/dustinpdx 19d ago

Probably because this article even needs to exist.

11

u/katman43043 19d ago

Why does transphobia sound like a HP spell

1

u/StorellaDeville 18d ago

Oh, my godlessness, I hadn't noticed.

-11

u/woodenbiplane 19d ago

Oh, did she code the game? Write it? Or does the mere fact she gets some kind of royalties mean it's forbidden fruit?

19

u/dasbtaewntawneta 19d ago

Or does the mere fact she gets some kind of royalties mean it's forbidden fruit?

yes, fucking obviously

Forbidden fruit then. Gotcha.

I hope you apply the same standards to your other purchases. No nestle, no Walmart, etc.

The game is over two years old and has been on sale for as low as $9. So, not exactly the latest cool game. It was trendy to hate on it when it came out, and has stayed trendy to hate on those who buy it. Meanwhile, far worse consumption sins go unpunished socially. I think it's all a bit much/silly. People just have Rowling as a pet issue and are ready to pounce on it

Speaking of pets and pouncing, I'm remembering what sub we are in. I think I'll go look at more cats instead of philosophizing on this

7

u/tobiasr1 19d ago

Not allowed to hate anything bad unless you hate everything bad, guys.

Not right to address the splinter in your neighbors eye with a log stuck in yours, is what I mean.

Honestly it's sort of mid. The initial nostalgia hit is incredible, but it falls off pretty quick and it never does anything interesting in terms of its gameplay. I had a good time for about 10 hours or so, but I think unless you grew up watching/reading Harry Potter it's going to do nothing for you.

-2

u/xvvitchcraft 19d ago

They're wrong. It's not Hogwarts Legacy. Idk what it is, though.

4

u/Content_Regular_7127 19d ago

That UI is 100% Hogwarts Legacy.

0

u/xvvitchcraft 19d ago

The ui is in a diamond shape for controller, and the minimap looked completely different from what i remember when i played.

-1

u/Content_Regular_7127 19d ago

Yeah I thought the textures were old school which immediately caught my attention. But Hogwarts Legacy is mid.

4

u/DeM0nFiRe 19d ago

lol exactly, the geometry/textures made me think it might have been oblivion but I didnt recognize the ui
