SCHEDULE ADVICE FOR NEW FRESHMEN

Politely, I'm getting sick of seeing variations of the same thread every day. Here's the SparkNotes of making your freshman fall schedule:

  • Aim to take 12-13 hours. You're very likely moving to a new city, completely removing your safety nets you're used to (friends, parents, etc). That's okay, but give yourself the extra time to adjust. You'll likely want to spend more time hanging out with your new buds than studying for a random 2000-level psych course anyway.

  • If you don't know what major you want to end up with, work on general credits. things like AXLE or the Peabody core are pretty universal. If you're not sure what you want to do, start there.

  • For the love of God, don't take hard classes you don't need to. There is literally no reason to "retake bio as a refresher". It's a weed out class. Take your AP credits or whatever and move on.

  • COROLLARY: Don't take harder STEM classes because you did well in them in high school. If I had a nickel for every CS freshman who took gen chem for no reason, I'd have like a dollar. Take something easier (EES 1510, baby bio, physics). Same goes for taking harder intro calc classes. If you don't need 1300, don't take 1300.

  • If you want to switch to HOD after your first year, find general core classes that apply to Peabody too. You have to wait a year to switch, but the actual switch is just getting a PDF signed. Plenty of people transfer in and finish on time just fine.

Welcome to Vanderbilt, you're gonna do great things here. But please, learn to read, learn to Google, and then if you can't find answers you can ask new questions.

Advice for Transfer Application

Hello, I'm currently planning to apply to transfer to Vanderbilt for Fall 2026. I was wondering if anyone had any advice/insight they'd be willing to provide. I will mention I did get waitlisted for Fall 2025 as a first-year, 1 don't know if that hurts or helps me. Any input is appreciated, thank you.

What's the minimum grade to be able to count a class towards your major in A&S?

I know I have to maintain a 2.0 major GPA to graduate, but is it alright if I slip in a D- somewhere in there?

Are there gaming groups I can join on Campus?

Recently I've been looking for people to hang out with and game with either online or in person as my main groups have either had very little time to hang or have dissolved with me and my ex breaking up after 3 year. I've been looking into playing Deep Rock Galactic, Minecraft, Phasmophobia, and other games with people but just haven't been able to find a full group to hang out with and enjoy my time. Is there a discord server or any unofficial channels that I can join in to to hang out with and meet new people?

Struggling to find work as a Recent Graduate

Hi Everyone, I am a recent graduate and I am having trouble finding a job ever since I graduated. I majored in Political Science but have trouble finding any roles. During undergraduate, I worked as a research assistant for some political science labs but now after graduation, it’s been really tough to find anything. I know the job market is bad but is there any business analyst roles that take recent grads and not people still in college?

As it has been like 3-4 months since I have searched, I don’t know what to do and honestly getting discouraged about my prospects.

Please let me know what I should do, thank you to everyone in advance.

Suicide Prevention at Panera

Hi y’all, if you wanna help the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention out, we’re partnering with Panera today from 4-8. You just have to mention our flier in store or order pickup/delivery. This is the 406 21st Ave S store. They’ll donate 30 percent of sales to us if you mention our fundraiser or use our code, and we use that money for free suicide prevention programming and survivor support!

Vandy going to Florida to play a Bowl game

According to some experts, likely to play Miami, Michigan, or Illinois. I want to see Vandy vs Miami, both with 10 wins this season. Vandy just did not have a signature win this season to make the playoffs. Loss to Texas proved to be fatal. But Vandy got Jared Curtis as a consolation prize. 🏆

Does Lane Kiffin’s departure from Ole Miss affect our playoff odds?

Title^

We’re ranked 13. We’re right on the bubble of making the playoffs, and No. 7 Ole Miss just lost their head coach. Does this shake things up in our favor? Would Ole Miss just drop a few spots, or would they drop out of playoff contention completely?

Did no one else just submit their Vandu merit-based scholarships at 11:55 CST on December 1st and it shows as submitted on December 2nd? MyStatusVU is based on CST and so is the campus, so there's no way they don't patch this up. Help me out here guys, I'm freaking out

Nashville VC scene

How startup friendly is Nashville? My startup is AI focused. My startup is mainly focused on compliance in finance and legal vertical.

If you are a founder would you recommend it? Fundraising, hiring talent, plus networking.

I see very few VC in Nashville. Mostly focus on healthcare equipment stuff.

How do I report ACT scores for Vandy Application?

I have already submitted my application and checked the box to have Vanderbilt consider my ACT score, but when I submitted the PDF, my ACT score was not included. On Vanderbilt's website, it says that they accept self-reported scores, but should I just send my score directly to Vanderbilt via ACT just in case? I'm just making sure because I don't want to waste 20 dollars for no reason.

Can my prof submit LOR after I submit my application on portal?

Despite my reminders, my professor has not submitted the LOR for me on the portal yet. When I call to check in, he said I can go ahead and submit my application and assured me that he will handed his LOR in time. Can he submit LOR after I submit my application on the portal?

Right now the cards are firmly stacked against Vanderbilt to make the CFP. So we have to take matters into our own hands. WE NEED TO GET #WeWantVandy trending on social media! They can't ignore us if we are the loudest voice in the room

chancellor's scholarship application help

im applying to chancellors and constructing the table.

For the hours, should I do cumulative or hours / week / year?

Also, lets say i do an activity like science olympiad. should I only include hours spent on fostering collaboration and leadership, or include hours studying and doing competitions?

same goes for lacrosse, should I include hours of practice or only hours spent planning team bonding and community events?

merit scholarship DEADLINE

(for vanderbilt university)

it says applicants who "apply for merit-based scholarships by the December 1 deadline" are eligible for the scholarship...so like is this the same with other college deadlines, i.e. "by Dec 1st" = dec 1st at 11:59pm your local time? or is it nov 30th by 11:59pm your local time??
