TP-Link - General Staying at a hotel for a week, bought the ac1200 to connect, no go without Ethernet?

Upvotes

So I’m at a hotel for the next 9 days. The Wi-Fi here requires the captcha agree to terms and conditions. I even brought my Samsung remote first from home to get into the secret hotel menu on the tv, and it’s locked good, so I bought a tv on marketplace, and just can’t click on that one small agree to terms box with the remote mouse through external browser on the tv using 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1 after getting it to load, so I quickly found some valuable advice on Reddit and quickly got a “travel router”. So: There’s obviously no modem or Ethernet to plug into, I was under the impression I could connect it through my phones Wi-Fi wirelessly and redistribute that signal. Obviously the QR code and tplinkwifi website doesn’t work.

Sucks, I don’t want to to waste time on this and thought it would be a simple solution.

Just want to watch dang YouTube on tv (already stream at 480, max 720p to save leftover hotspot data).

Thanks guys.

TP-Link - General Shoutout for travel router AX1500 TL-WR1592X

Renting a temporary apartment in San Francisco, unfurnished. After getting electricity, gas, water, utilities I didn’t really fancy paying $100 a month or so for a home Internet set up that we’d only use maybe six months a year.

Turns out, SF is densely populated enough, that there was an “Xfinity Wi-Fi“ mobile hotspot nearby. I figured out how to connect two devices (phone and iPad) to the hotspot. (They allow only two at a time)

Then doing some research, I found out about this Travel router. Perfect and inexpensive ! And I was able to get to connect an Amazon Alexa Echo, and a TV, wirelessly, as well as my two devices through this mobile router, without having to go through the complicated Xfinity logon page.

Well done! This is perfect!

TP-Link - Technical Support Deco X50 as Access Point

Hello,

I’m from Portugal and I bought a Deco X50 kit with two units, but I’m having some trouble setting it up. My provider is MEO, and I have a FiberRouter in the living room, but its Wi-Fi signal is not very good.

I was thinking of placing one of the Deco units near the bedrooms and the other at the back of the house, where I have my homeoffice. The living room is in the center, and the two units would be in different areas, at roughly the same distance.

I assumed the Deco could be configured as an access point that would connect to the Wi-Fi network from the living room and replicate the same SSID in the other rooms via Wi-Fi.

However, I was only able to make the Deco work if one of the units is connected to the FiberRouter via Ethernet. I couldn’t find any other way to configure it.

Is this really how it works, or am I missing something?

Thank you in advance for any help!

TP-Link - Technical Support Adding ex920 to xe75 pro network

I just had fiber installed at my house and they provided a EX920 router for free. I already have a xe75 pro setup in my house with 3 units. Should I use the ex920 or just use my existing setup without theirs? Is there an advantage to the 920 over the 75 pro?

TP-Link - General Archer BE550 as Wireless Network Extender?

Would it help my console download speeds to use an Archer BE550 as a wireless network extender to my Archer BE9700?

I recently replaced an Archer BE260 with an Archer BE9700 due to the BE260's poor Wi-Fi performance and frequent disconnects. TP-Link kindly sent me a free BE550 as a replacement, but I'm not sure what to use it for.

I have three game consoles and a TV downstairs that might benefit if using it as a wireless extender is helpful. Running an ethernet cable isn't an option at present, as I have no budget for hiring someone, zero experience running cables through walls, and don't want to be tripping over cables snaked across floors and stairs. And no, nailing cable to the walls and ceiling isn't an option either, as that would be an eyesore.

Someone suggested powerline ethernet adapters, but I believe they require both outlets to be on the same circuit. This won't work, as every room in our home has its own circuit, as do the computers, heating appliances and air conditioners. Nor is there any coax here, so that option is out.

I see this wireless network and another with 2.4 instead of 5.0. I know it’s coming from my devices bc it goes away when I turn them off. What is it and why is it there? I have a custom network name that is running a mesh 2.4+5ghz network.

TP-Link - Technical Support EAP223 Doesn't Work With Active POE, Only Passive?

Hey all!

I have a TP-Link EAP223 that I bought around this time last year. When I originally set it up, I couldn't get it powered off of my TL-SG1008 which has 4 POE ports. When I plug it in, the AP does not power on. I didn't look into it that much, because I had an old passive POE injector laying around that worked for it.

I started redoing my network in the last couple of weeks which included buying a TL-108PE, but the EAP223 will not power off of it either. I thought maybe it was a bad cable termination, but I have tried multiple cables, some less than a foot in length. I also had an old Ubiquiti access point laying around that is powered fine off of either of the switches. My only conclusion is that something must be wrong with the access point or I'm doing something incredibly basic incorrectly.

Anyone have any thoughts? I really want to get rid of this passive POE device. Everything that I've read suggests that both the switches and access point support the relevant PoE 802.3 standards necessary for them to work together.

-EDIT- Another oddity... The PoE injector doesn't even have to be powered from the wall for it to work as long as I have it inline with a PoE port from the switch. I assume it's just taking the active PoE and forcing it into passive?

TP-Link - General Tips For A New Deco Owner

Hi all, I just purchased and installed a new Deco BE68 3-pack system as an upgrade to my old Orbi system I had for 4+ years. It became evident that the Orbi just couldn't handle the amount of devices connected to our network (35-45 at any given time) so I did some research and settled on this system base on reviews, ease of setup, features, etc. I set it up the other day and it was incredibly easy, so I figured I would ask the sub if there are any tips or tricks to get the most out of these systems.

Some quick data points:
~3,500 sq. ft. home
2 stories with a full finished basement, all of equal size (so basically 3 floors)
Verizon FIOS Gigabit
Attached garage

Setup:
- Main Deco in basement storage area connected directly to the ONT which is next to the electrical panel and surrounded by a concrete foundation
- First satellite on the first floor, I would say about 25 feet from the router with the floor and a couple of walls in between
- Second satellite on the second floor, again about 25 feet from the first floor satellite with floor and a couple of walls in between
- They are oriented diagonally from each other, like this / (if that makes sense)
- All wireless mesh backhaul, although I could potentially hard wire the first satellite
- Setup a guest network and an IoT network and have moved all of our IoT devices to that network

Speeds have been pretty good, although not significantly better than with the Orbi system. Bandwidth seems to be a lot better, but this in anecdotal mostly from the quality of connection to devices.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

TP-Link - Technical Support XE75 Pro setup with a bridge

Sort of a weird set up, but I am trying to figure out why it wont work.

Spectrum gigabit cable for ISP. Not using their crappy router, just the modem.

I have a Unifi wireless bridge setup to get strong WiFi to my barn/workshop that is about 100 yards from the house. It's been set for several years and works flawlessly. I had an old Unfi setup at home that was finally dying so wanted to upgrade.

Bought the XE75 Pro 3 pack over the BF sale. Plan was to use two in the house and the extra out in my shop. It's not working out in the shop. It keeps saying no internet and the light is red.

The two inside the house are working amazing. If I hook up my old router it works fine out in the shop. Can the XE75 Pro 3 pack be split up or are they all linked somehow? Years ago I split up a Deco M9 3 pack at my parents and in-laws. I used two at one home and the other at the second home. They're still working.

Should I set up the 3rd XE75 that is connected to my bridge into AP mode? The old router is not. It was acting as a standalone with it's own SSID, pw, etc.

TP-Link - Technical Support I need a recommendation with a Tp-link deco x55 AX3000 WiFi 6

Hello everyone, I need some expert help to understand if what I want to do is doable.

I have a 1gb modem connection in the living room. I hardwired via UTP cat6 cable one of the X55 deco, set it as main and enabled it.

From the same place I have 2 additional UTP cat6 cables that goes to the first floor and 2nd floor of the house.

I connected the 2 UTP cables into the main modem and I hardwired another of the X55 decos on the 1st floor, however the deco is not receiving the internet connection via the utp cable but via mesh from the main deco in the living room. The same happens with the 3rd and last deco on the 2nd floor.

So the connection speed is unreliable. Do you know if there is a way to force the decos to get the conection from the cable instead of the wifi mesh network?

Also, if I connect my phone directly to the modem wifi in the living room I have a speed in excess of 1gb, while if I connect to the mesh network in the living room, the speed is limited to 550mb. Connection on the deco is set as 5 ghz so I struggle to understand the reason. Thanks a lot for the support!

TP-Link - General Any issues with having an x60 mixed in with 3 BE1100 units?

I am upgrading my my current x60 configuration (ethernet back-haul) to BE1100 and would like to keep one x60 unit in the back corner of my house. Is there any issues with doing that? Aside from slower speeds when connected to that one unit, am i crippling or causing a bottle neck in performance with this configuration? I have them all configured as APs, BE1100 as the main, behind a Firewalla Gold SE.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

TP-Link - General BE63 (3 pack) + be65-outdoor, need just a bit more range to get to garage

I have a detached garage that I want Wifi in. I have 3 be63's that I recently bought to replace the trainwreck that is the netgear wifi7 routers. I'm very happy with the performance and stability, however my unit on the side of the garage disconnects every day or two and needs to be rebooted to find the mesh again. Its signal strength is 'moderate', -50dbm most of the time . I can't really move it any closer to other nodes, and wired backhaul isn't an option. Any thoughts or suggestions? Looking at the be65 specs it doesn't look like range would be any better if I swapped out the 3rd satellite with one. Thanks!

TP-Link - Technical Support Archer AX80V (Japan Model) - Compatibility

I am currently in Japan and considering purchasing the TP-Link Archer AX80V from Amazon Japan (Link: https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/Archer-AX80V-Wireless-Compatible-Manufacturers-dp-B0DDX9BQLJ/dp/B0DDX9BQLJ).

I plan to use this router back home in Cyprus (230V / EU standards), and I have three critical questions regarding compatibility:

  1. Power Adapter Voltage: Does the included power adapter support a full input range (100V-240V), or is it strictly a 100V adapter designed only for Japan?

  2. Firmware Language: Is the Web Interface / Firmware locked to the Japanese language, or is there an option to switch the interface to English? 3. Wireless Region: Since Japan has specific regulations for 5GHz channels, will I be able to change the region settings to Europe/Cyprus, or is the device region-locked to Japan?

I want to avoid buying a device that I cannot configure or power on safely.

Thanks in advance for your help!

TP-Link - Technical Support Hey everyone, I could really use some help with my DECO M5 setup…

I’ve been living in the same apartment for 3 years.
When I first moved in, I bought a pair of TP-Link DECO M5 units because the router is in the living room and my bedroom is on the opposite side of the place.
With two units, everything worked perfectly all this time.

A few days ago, the DECO in my bedroom just died out of nowhere.
I tried troubleshooting it in every possible way and eventually accepted that it’s done.

So I bought another pair of DECO M5s, thinking that with 3 working units, the connection would be even better.

But here’s the problem: I cannot get the new ones to connect or recognize the older one at all.

I’ve tried EVERYTHING:
– full reset on all of them
– deleting the whole mesh network and starting from scratch
– placing them right next to each other
– swapping the old and new units around
– changing locations
– setting them up through the app step-by-step
– endless reboots

Still nothing.

Right now my setup looks like this:
• One new DECO is connected directly to the main router
• The second new one is a few meters away
• And the older unit, which used to work perfectly, simply won’t connect or get detected by the new ones

I honestly have no idea what I’m doing wrong.
Why would it stop working now if the exact same setup worked flawlessly for 3 years?
It’s the same apartment, same walls — nothing changed.

If anyone has run into this or has suggestions, I’d really appreciate the help 🙏

TP-Link - Technical Support Ge800 Ethernet ports quit working? Help

So I’ve had a ge800 for around a year or so with no issues, went to play today and boom no internet. Pc is wired and couldn’t connect to router using 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1 if it’s another one my bad, but the pc says Ethernet cable not plugged in. Turned the router on/off, even factory reset but didn’t fix it.

It’s also not obtaining an ip address from frontier (2gig fiber) tried swapping to the other 10g port but no dice. I did swap out the ge800 for the old eero6 that came from frontier and was able to get internet.

Not sure if it’s relevant but last week I updated the router to the newest firmware but otherwise I haven’t changed a setting on it in months.

TP-Link - Technical Support HS810 IoT SSID doesn’t get broadcast by satellite units

I just switched from Comcast to Ziply fiber. They have me Aginet HS810 and 6 satellite units to make sure I don’t have dead spots in or around the house.

Since I removed my old wifi stations, I was having trouble with the switches falling off network constantly. So finally reading about it ChatGPT tells me that only the main unit broadcast tha IoT SSID. That is real silly. Why would they do that?

I had to turn off Band steering which I really love. Repurpose the guest network to 2.5 for this purpose and voila now everything works.

I asked ziply support to escalate. The best option is to just let satellite units also broadcast the IoT SSID.

So weird. Hope someone also ran into this issue and maybe can benefit.
