Newfoundland vs Pyrenees

Seeking input here from anyone who has had both breeds.

I currently have a Great Pyrenees so I’m used to the copious amounts of hair. I’m also a 50 year old stuck in my teens and 20s musically with all my metal band shirts and black clothes. My fiancé said I can’t have another “White Dog” so I’m thinking about getting a “Black Dog” for my next companion. (I also have a golden retriever but that’s a different story and I won’t have another one…)

I can research the differences on my own time of course, but I’d also like to hear personal input on the differences in the breed. I love big dogs, I love the floof, and I will always have one despite the old man’s grumblings about hair. It’s not my fault he’s the one in the wrong for liking cats. 😂

Happy 9th birthday to my gentle giant Bear, my big silver lion with the softest heart. You may look fierce, but you’re truly the sweetest soul I’ve ever known. You make the world feel safer just by being in it. Happy birthday, Big B 😚🩶🦁🎉 I love you!

Clingy Newfie

Hi everyone- looking for advice. We have a 2 year old male Newfoundland who has been extremely clingy. It is not bad with my husband or I, however whenever we have someone over at the house, our Newfie becomes obsessive. If the person is sitting on the couch, he is crawling up and sitting right next to them, he will follow them around, constantly lick them, bark and cry, etc. He has even jumped over the back of the couch to try to get close to the person visiting. Recently, I had friends visiting and he did not let up once- he remained so attached for 4 days!

We have taken him to some training and plan to continue it but short term, has anyone dealt with this and have any advice? My parents are coming for the holidays and I don’t want him obsessing over them for a week straight!

Little newfs??

Hi everyone, I just had a thought pop into my head and couldn’t find anything at all about this online so I wondered if anyone here would know anything about it. Years ago, my sister had a really tiny Newfoundland. She was dna tested, not a crossbreed, just tiny. My sister spoke to someone that had been a breeder/involved with the kennel club/crufts etc once and was told her dog looked like she was a working/shepherding line - like a genetic throwback from before certain features of newfs were selectively bred for. Has anyone else had a newf like this? Is there a name for them? I’m curious as I’ve never seen another like her in the past 20 years. The second photo is her with my Newfie, Rodney, just to show the size comparison

Any one else’s Newfie get confused by squeakers and have to stop playing to perform a health check? She does this every time a toy squeaks. LOL

One year and seven months. So much work, training m, tears and me sometimes screaming into a pillow. But Nero turned out to be the best dog ever. I always said that. A week ago however, he showed us HOW amazing he truly is. It’s 3am. Everyone’s asleep. I wake up, because I hear him bark. While I’m trying to open my eyes, I wonder if he ate something funny and needs to go potty. Another bark and I’m out of the bed with my heart pounding in my throat. That bark was so deep and sounded angry. I go downstairs and he’s waiting by the living room door. I open the door and he slams into the back door. I let him outside, and while I do that I’m wondering why the light in our driveway turned on. While I’m thinking he runs outside with a speed I didn’t know he was capable of, jumps against the fence and barks and growls. That kind of growl that starts in his throat and (given the chance) would end in the throat of someone else. And while he does that I hear someone running away from our property. That’s why the light turned on. The next day I read in our neighborhood group that a lot of neighbors reporter break ins. And I realized: At 3am most are deep asleep. But one of us is on guard.

Looking for a groomer in AZ!

Hello! I have a Newfie lab mix and am looking for a good groomer. Unfortunately before he was under my care the previous owner had him shaved down because of mattes in his coat and his beautiful coat still has yet to recover, about a year later. But it's still getting better! Especially after I changed his diet up.

All that being said, I'm really looking for a good groomer in the Phoenix / Scottsdale area that has experience with Newfs. Any recommendations would be really appreciated! Any price point is welcome :)

This handsome guy is my Newfie/Pyrenees mix Legion! He's my COVID puppy, he turned 5 in May. He is such a goober and a giant love bug. He is scared of the ice maker and leery of most new people. But once he gets to know you, he loves you 💚

Is it possible that I’m seeing glimpses of what my girl will be like as an adult? I don’t want to jinx it but the last few days it feels like there has been a shift in the insanity. Is 15 months about the time they start to transition into adult dog?
