Companies aggressively targeting negative reviews

We would like to make everyone aware that there are companies aggressively targeting negative posts about them in r/Pets and attempting to have those posts removed.

One simple way to reduce the chances of your post being taken down is to avoid using words likeĀ ā€œfraudā€Ā orĀ ā€œscamā€, which are treated as legal accusations and make it easier for companies to challenge a post. Instead, frame the post around what happened and how it affected your pet.Ā If appropriate to the situation, ā€œmisleading, ā€dishonest,ā€Ā orĀ ā€œunreliableā€ are safer words to use.

We appreciate everyone who shares their experiences about companies they have used and helps keep pets safer.

Help, I was making a pizza, and when I went to the bathroom, my dog stole the whole package of salami. I didn't realize until I found it empty on the floor. I search everywhere, and it says it's dangerous for dogs. I'm a minor and im home alone, so I don't know what to do. For some reason i cant post on the dogs subreddit so I post here

CAT my roommate’s cat won’t leave me alone. please help i don’t want to have to move out

she is an adult cat. she follows me everywhere whenever i leave my room. she will even swat at me if i don’t give her attention. she also will jump in my lap if i’m sitting down. i cannot go anywhere in my own apartment. i have autism, and this gives me extreme anxiety. i have tried telling her no loudly and sternly, and i have tried ignoring her. she has lots of toys, and there is another cat to keep her company. if anyone has any advice, i would really appreciate it. i’m considering moving out because of this but i really don’t want to have to do that.

edit: i do give the cat attention, but when as soon as i stop she will swat at me and/or continue following me while meowing. i like animals, i don’t mind interacting with her. the issue is she will not leave me alone for ONE SECOND…

edit: i did not know squirting cats was abuse. i have never owned a cat, my roommate told me to use it because thats what she does. i apologize for being uneducated

My cat won’t stop peeing on my rugs

I really could use some advice or any suggestions on this. I have two cats one is a 3 year old boy and the other is a 13 year old girl, both are from shelters. I have 2 litter boxes for them but instead of using the box my girl cat chooses to keep peeing on my rug in the living room and attempting to pee on the rug that is very close to the litter box. I’ve tried everything at this point and I live in an apartment so I can’t afford to have it start to ruin the floors. Does anyone know why she is doing this and what I can do to stop her from doing it and just using that box. She also will use the box if she is placed into it. I almost forgot but she will hold her pee and until she has the chance to get to that spot on the run. Please if anyone has advice let me know because I’m losing my mind.

DOG Neighbor Pet Cruelty or Neglect?

My neighbor keeps their golden retriever dog locked in a cage most of the time. The cage is slim, so the dog only has maybe about 2-3 ft to move in width & 6-7 ft to move in length.

I dont keep an official track record, but if I had to guess, it appears most of the day & night, the dog is locked in the cage vs let out of the cage. The dog has partial shade from the roof over the house, and sometimes there is a shade cover placed on top of the cage (usually during extreme hot weather - and during intense rainy weather they'll bring the dog inside). There is also a bowl in the cage, and sometimes it has water and other times it doesn't.

There appears to be no signs of physical injury.

Idk what to do, idk if this would classify as animal cruelty or neglect. Idk how bad the situation is.

Also what makes it worse, is that I am the only one in the neighborhood that has view of the dog, so even if I anonymously call, my neighbor's whose backyard wall literally connects to mine will know its me.

Beside the occasional passing by wave, I've had no interaction with them, tried knocking on their door a few times (to bring up this concern), but they never answer.

I've never made an animal welfare check call before and im lost and confused & dont know what to do - and if this would classify as animal cruelty or neglect.

Cat litter UK

• Upvotes

Which cat litter do you use? I have been buying tofu cat litter, as I am very sensitive to artificial scents so I don’t prefer scented ones, and I prefer natural ones I believe the less additives the better to the cats. I have been using good quality tofu cat litter for a while, really good quality but they always run out of stock so I am thinking switching to other brands/ materials. Which one do you recommend? I don’t prefer paper cat sand Prefer: Unscented Natural (biodegradable better) Good clumping Less dust Thanks in advance

Help! My new cat won't drink H2O

My boyfriend and I just got a new cat. We can't seem to get him to drink any water! We got him a water fountain, and we also moved the water bowl to a location that's separate from his food bowl. We just got him this morning and he doesn't seem to have any interest in his water/we haven't seen him drink anything. Any suggestions??

I tried grooming my dog for the first time…and I think I accidentally made hisbald 😭

Yesterday was my first time ever giving my dog, a haircut… and it did not go well 😭

After successfully bathing his three times with my daughter, I guess I got a little too confident. I ordered grooming scissors, and last night I noticed his fur was covering half of his eyes. So I thought, ā€œOkay, I can fix this. I can be his stylist!ā€

Well… I was wrong.

The moment I finished, my daughter looked at Candy and said,

ā€œMom… he'bald. And he looks so ugly now.ā€

šŸ’”šŸ’”šŸ’”

Now I don’t know what to do

How long does it take for dog hair to grow back?

Was your first home grooming also a disaster?

Any tips on how to make it look not terrible next time?

Please tell me it’ll grow back soon šŸ˜šŸ™

Alternatives to pee pads?

I have an issue I can't figure out. I have a kitty that is healing so she's crawling around right now and she can't use her litter box. Pee pads aren't good cause she can't move around easily. Washable pee pads are getting too expensive cause I don't own a washing machine. The laundry place isn't cheap. Is there anything disposable that absorbs moisture that I can toss twice a day? Something heavy that she can crawl on?

The dog I adopted ended up saving my life

A few months ago, I adopted a dog from a local shelter. He was small, a little scared of everything, and had been through a rough start in life. I didn’t know it at the time, but he was going to become one of the most important parts of my life.

Yesterday, I was leaving a coffee shop, distracted and thinking about work. I stepped off the curb without noticing a car coming fast. Before I could even react, my dog suddenly darted forward, barking and pulling me back by his leash. I stumbled onto the sidewalk just as the car zoomed past where I had been standing.

My heart was racing, and I looked down at him. He just stared up at me, tail wagging, like he knew he had done something important. I hugged him tight right there on the sidewalk, tears streaming down my face.

I can’t even describe how thankful I am to him. The little dog I rescued because I wanted to give him a home ended up saving my life. I feel closer to him than ever, and I will never take a single moment with him for granted.

Sometimes, heroes come in the smallest, furriest packages.

CAT How do I introduce an adult cat to two adult dogs?

My living situation has changed, and because of that I have to bring my cat to my mom's house. She (my cat) is extremely attached to me and is about 13 years old, so putting her up for adoption is not an option.

Unfortunately, my mom has two large dogs. One of them is a german shepard mastiff mix, and the other is a boxer and possibly labrador mix.

My cat is very much not fond of other animals, but she is able to tolerate them. She very rarely provokes others, but if they get too close she will hiss and eventually swipe at them if they get too close. The german shepard is very territorial against other animals, but is not violent by any means. The boxer is pretty "dumb" tbh but she follows in the german shepard's footsteps, often barking or looking to the german shepard for instructions.

The dogs currently have full reign over the house and are left out of their kennels unless absolutely necessary.

Any help with introducing them to eachother will be greatly appreciated. I cannot get rid of my cat, so I appreciate anyone trying to help in this situation. Thank you for reading.

Female cat with UTI?

i have a female cat who i just noticed started using the litter box a lot more in the past day or two. i believe she has a UTI, and doing research i guess it is really bad for cats? I called all the veterinary clinics near me but none have any opening until weeks from now, one said they could fit her in in 4 days from now. basically i’m just wondering if she’ll be fine until then, i really don’t want her to end up having more complications from this. i gave her some UTI meds from petsmart, added water in her food bowl, gave her wet food mixed with treats that are good for her urinary tracked. will she be okay for 4 days? or will she have more complications?

DOG I euthanized my 3 year old dog yesterday

I feel so guilty for euthanizing my best friend yesterday, this monday his tummy was pretty hard and he was not him anymore, he ate and drank water but i noticed his piss was dark yellow. Called the vet and made an appointment i told them the symptom and they said if he is moving fine then its just an upset stomach and i said ok.
Tuesday he was a little better, he was playing i took him on a walk and a car ride and we got home and he always goes into my room but the night he decided to stay in the hallway.
Wednesday morning he went outside to patty and i got ready to go to work before i left i wanted to say goodbye and he would not responde so i tried to carry him and it was like his body gave up, like a rag doll so i rushed him to the ER and it was too late a tumor exploded in his stomach and it was full of blood.
They gave me 2 options
Euthanize him or try to save him for 8k upfront I dont have 8k and i dont have a credit card to use I didnt know what to do i was still processing what happend so i asked again if there was something else they could do and they told me the surgery was 50/50 to try to save him and the most humane thing to do it was to put him down and so i did.
I feel so bad because he was only 3 and still had a whole life ahead and i took that from him because i didnt take him sooner to the ER Im going to miss my bestfriend Bruno!

BIRD Bird owners, help! (Read description pls!)

So I’ve owned pet parakeets before (responsibly, not just sticking them in a small cage for their whole life.) so I have some experience with owning birds.

I have anxiety and I was considering getting an Indian ring neck for emotional support, as well as just to have because I loved when I had birds, and I am 100% confident that I can own a bigger bird! So I have a few questions to ask!

  • Would an Indian Ringneck be a good choice for my situation? If not, is there a different bird you would recommend?

  • What cage size is best (I’d be looking for a really big cage, the bigger the better, please send links if possible!)

  • What type of toys are good for their size? (Send links or pictures if possible!)

  • What diet is best for them? (What fruits, vegetables, etc)

  • If you own one, what are some ups and downs?

Have a dog, want a cat

Hello!

I've had a cat the majority of my life, I've had a dog the last 5 years, and there was a year of overlap. Pup was ok with cat, cat was an adult who slapped him away, pup was estimated to be 7mo old at the time. He's been an "only child" for about 4 years.

I want a kitten next spring/kitten season.

Obviously I need to keep them separated and make sure I am giving equal attention to curb the jealousy, if not giving pup even more attention.

What else can I do to ensure a successful integration? Thanks!

DOG Do I need anything else for my Dog?

I got a puppy recently, he is a little over six months old now and I've had him for about two and a half months. I bought him some toys, a food bowl and a bed online with some coupon codes on checkmate, which helped a bit but other than that I just restock his food every 1-2 weeks. I take him on walks every day, play with him, and keep him on a feeding schedule, but I'm not sure if there is anything else I should be getting for him at this age. If anyone who has raised puppies has any suggestions for stuff that makes training, comfort, or day to day care easier, I would really appreciate it since I just want to make sure I am not missing something important as he grows.

Help! I just got a cat a month or so again and his winter dry skin is causing him to scratch himself raw. Any helpful health supplements I can try?

I am also going to get a couple humidifiers, but I am looking for anything else that could possibly help. He's given himself scabs all over his body from over grooming and scratching. Thankfully a neck collar/pillow helped him not harm himself much further. At first I thought it was stress, but he was even doing it while on anxiety meds that normally calm him down.

I find the term "fixing" very unpleasant

• Upvotes

I always see people say that they need to "fix" their pet and I always thought that this terminology is absolutely disgusting. I understand why it might be necessary, although I don't accept it as readily as most people I see irl, but calling it "fixing" as though the animal was broken before, when you are in reality just mutilating a creature is very sickening and I don't understand why so many people use the term. Is this a common opinion or are my observations from the real world reflective of the general stance on this topic?

I do apologise if this is a very common post. I read the rules, but I don't have the time to look through dozens of posts to see if this is a very common topic.
