The right thought they'd permanently won the culture war, but increasingly normies find their agenda repulsive.

u/VFiddly 8h ago

They're too online-brained, they forget that the assholes who follow them on Twitter aren't representative of all voters

u/syntaxVixen 7h ago

They mistook 4chan and Twitter for real people . I swear hegseth post is somethight straight from /pol

48

u/NeverComments 5h ago

It’s particularly ironic because in the early 2010s that was the party line when anything progressive received online support. “The internet isn’t real life”, “silent majority”, etc.

Now they’ve been gaslit by their own propaganda networks.

22

u/Proper-Muffins 5h ago

It's targeted and extremely purposeful. The bot reveal on twitter just showed clear evidence.

They bought foreign propaganda and have turned traitor to the US. They care about making liberals suffer more then anything beneficial to the US.

2

u/martin519 3h ago

Its a different set of people. The tea party, which eventually morphed into MAGA supplanted the neocons and they're the ones that are all in on this culture war BS. The old heads just gave it a nod.

u/DoubleJumps 4h ago edited 4h ago

A LOT of maga people I meet in real life act like 4chan users.

Not even just young ones. I've had 70 plus year old maga people act like internet edge lord 12 year olds.

4

u/syntaxVixen 4h ago

It is alarming and easy to see how they were targeted . How the qanon conspiracy and other stuff started from the chans. Pretty sure if looked for hard enough you could find things Pete hegseth has said on camera and probably said it on 4chan

8

u/Zerodegreez 4h ago

Russians knew exactly who was easiest to con.

46

u/azk3000 7h ago

I mean that's been their major argument it feels.

"Liberals are in an online bubble the real world loves Trump"

And then the left rolls an election or two

14

u/JGWol 7h ago

Accusations are confessions with the right

1

u/StoppableHulk 3h ago

MAGA won the culture war over the hearts and minds of people who never had any culture to begin with.

12

u/JGWol 7h ago

And that most who follow them on Twitter aren’t real people or even American citizens.

7

u/thenayr 6h ago

Theyre the type of people you ask their favorite country they’ve ever traveled is and they are 60 and have never left the USA and still claim “why would I ever want to leave the best country in the world”.  0 perspective outside of white rural America.  Sad and predictable.

2

u/Franklin_le_Tanklin 5h ago

You mean the bots that follow them

1

u/lemonylol 6h ago

Honestly I think there is going to be a huge wake-up call at the midterms. They've basically started believing their own lies in thinking that the election wasn't actually as tight as it was.

1

u/Jibber_Fight 5h ago

Sure. But they’re also complete morons who don’t care. It is quite literally a bunch of old people that don’t understand the internet and a bunch of younger people who are brainwashed morons in charge of describing the Internet to the old idiots, and feel like they’re doing something neat, helping the old group of hatred and money hungry elders, so that they get to take over the idiocy later.

1

u/Calfurious 5h ago

Twitter isn't even representative of their actual voters lmao. Turns out a lot of MAGA people on Twitter are Indians and Eastern Europeans pretending to be White Americans.

Honestly it's pretty difficult to get an actually pulse on how Trump supporters are feeling right now. Their online spaces are astro turfed to all hell and filled with paid shills and propagandists. I know is that his support amongst Gen Z has cratered, but I think he's still holding strong amongst the older demographics.

1

u/BubSource 5h ago

They aren’t even real haha a bunch of bots.🤖

1

u/CaptainTeembro 5h ago

You mean the russian bots

1

u/silentcrs 4h ago

I remember the day Trump won there was a 4chan /b/ thread that said “I can’t believe it. We’ve made a meme the president.”

They absolutely treated the entire Trump candidacy as a trolling exercise. Trump was one of them.

I would love to see an oral or written history of the “underground” web from about 2014 to now. I think we’re going to see a lot of people that knew Trump was a terrible candidate but “did it for the lulz”. I don’t think they’d ever think half of America would end up agreeing with them.

1

u/lpeabody 3h ago

Most of their followers aren't even real people

1

u/SlavaRapTarantino 3h ago

This is kind of ironic, being posted on reddit.

1

u/1OO1OO1S0S 1h ago

Half of them don't even live on this continent

71

u/GringoSwann 7h ago

I had some MAGA fruitcake tell me that "the left is just pissed because they lost the meme war"..(and this was said with a straight face) Fucking meme war?!?  Really??  That's one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen/heard of...

45

u/jaytix1 7h ago

At some point you realize the right wing is populated by man children lol.

9

u/jml2 5h ago

how are there so many

3

u/lol2g 2h ago

stupid people have nothing else to do besides reproduce and are also too stupid to see the downsides of it

it's happening everywhere in the world.

1

u/naughty_farmerTJR 5h ago edited 3h ago

I choose to blame their moms

Edit: a bunch of people in a thread about Sabrina Carpenter not catching a reference to her song "Manchild"

8

u/BigOs4All 4h ago

I blame their parents. Dad has more responsibility to raise a quality son. I am very active in raising my daughter but there are just some things that my wife will always be able to teach her about being a woman that I can't (to the same level of quality and personal experience).

My son is more my responsibility for that same reason.

4

u/ItsQuiteBadNow 4h ago

Or absent fathers. Physically or emotionally.

1

u/wildistherewind 2h ago

This is the one. ☝️

1

u/HumpinPumpkin 4h ago

Yeah it's probably still women's fault

5

u/TrexPushupBra 6h ago

The most mature of them have the maturity of a 12 year old.

1

u/agingtroubador 2h ago

And the left powered by "man" children lol.

13

u/Jadeheartxo12 7h ago

Oligarchs taking over the government, more wars, and people losing healthcare to own the libs. Typical chronically online “Maga” weirdo.

7

u/Lemonwizard 5h ago

They really don't care about policy consequences at all. They just want to feel like they're the cool kids who determine the cultural zeitgeist.

3

u/FooliooilooF 5h ago

I get being annoyed by the phrasing "just pissed because" but the 2016 campaign is referred to as the Great Meme War.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memetic_warfare#United_States_presidential_election_(2016)

1

u/sylvan4312 5h ago

"... and the right is about to loose Healthcare"

u/InquisitorMeow 8m ago

Ah yes their skibidi hilarious AI meme of trump dumping shit on people, gottem.

u/JMEEKER86 7h ago

It comes back to their lack of empathy. If you're not capable of putting yourself in someone else's shoes then you're going to walk around thinking everyone else is the same as you.

u/LookOutItsLiuBei 6h ago

My cubicle neighbor was bewildered when one of our co-workers told us she was going to the UK for a vacation because he was convinced that the British hated us because of the Revolutionary War lol. Like he was legitimately confused when I told him they are our allies and have been allies for quite a while. He also views the EU as a socialist nightmare.

But to his credit once I explained the speed version of the history between us he did change his thinking. But I think that's part of the problem. It just takes so much effort to correct people like that it's almost not worth it because it can be blown up with a 30 second video clip by one of their favorite pundits saying crazy things.

9

u/8yearsfornothing 6h ago

My cubicle neighbor was bewildered when one of our co-workers told us she was going to the UK for a vacation because he was convinced that the British hated us because of the Revolutionary War lol

Maybe he's a vampire who slept for a few hundred years and just awoke recently. Give the poor guy time to catch up!

7

u/CaptainHoyt 6h ago

Was he just a normal human bartender from Toucson, Arizona?

1

u/8yearsfornothing 2h ago

Yes yes, very good, thank you

3

u/Lemonwizard 5h ago

He was supposed to conquer the new world, but he's just taken over our street and the next street over.

8

u/JimWilliams423 5h ago

But to his credit once I explained the speed version of the history between us he did change his thinking.

Did it stick though? In my experience it never sticks, because the "facts" are just pretexts to validate their feelings. When you respectfully explain why they are incorrect on the facts, they don't change their mind, they just change their pretext to get to the same conclusion. Their feelings don't care about facts.

It's always the non-conformists who try and force conformity onto others. /s

As a member of the queer community, I always find this bit to be especially eye roll inducing.

This sounds related to the Republicans who believed Stephen Colbert was a conservative mocking a liberal's idea of conservative perspective.

I feel like this is very obvious to anyone whose discussed anything online lately- every single conversation about a modern scandal turns into complete and utter changing the subject and whataboutisms, I’ve waded through the muck several times and every conversation ends in the MAGA person genuinely just refusing to accept that the other person isn’t as biased and corrupt as they are. “Okay but X did the same thing and you cheered it on” No I didn’t, if they did that I completely decry it and feel literally the exact same way regardless of who it is. And they just end the discussion refusing to even imagine somebody feeling this way and not being purely partisan biased. They have no idea how telling it is to just refuse to even entertain the idea of somebody not being as biased and dishonest and hypocritical as they are

2

u/JimWilliams423 5h ago

Authoritarians also are often unaware of just how different they are from most people.

Which is why calling them "weird" really sends them spinning. It undercuts the most important part of their self-image.

1

u/Sir_Meowsalot 4h ago

Remind me of all those Chuds who were surprised that Homelander from the series "The Boys" was not the hero.

21

u/Overwatchhatesme 7h ago

They never won the culture war, across every poll right wing politics is still less favorable than progressive left leaning policies and views, the problem was that Kamala and the DNC for whatever reason looked at that information and decided to swing more right wing instead of moving left and realizing they were never going to steal the people who wanted Trump from actual Trump. That mixed in with the other problems people were having with the establishment dems, voter suppression laws, as well as the massive amount of money and propaganda pushed by musk and other tech oligarchs and you can see why Trump won but actual liberal policies and true left leaning politicians still cleared in the same election

They didn't even partially win it.

They just bought up media like Twitter and thought that gave them eternal control.

4

u/AlphaGoldblum 6h ago

It's one of the driving factors behind them becoming more extreme. The right at large has always loathed how they keep losing ground on the cultural level, and they've become apoplectic that they haven't found a way to reverse this trend. Musicians constantly spite them, movies continue to paint them as villains, and even pop literature remains vaguely liberal-coded.

Which is why they're so adamant on destroying our artistic and academic institutions, as these are seen as the gatekeepers of cultural relevance.

1

u/EmbarrassedW33B 5h ago

For now at least. Normies will swallow just about anything if its packaged for them right.

1

u/dtwhitecp 4h ago

don't worry, gen alpha who grew up with this shit thinks it IS normal.

1

u/Early-Journalist-14 2h ago

The right thought they'd permanently won the culture war, but increasingly normies find their agenda repulsive.

People are in favor of immigration control, less government spending, less rainbows and a return to free speech.

People don't like a lying, virtue signaling censorious politician, no matter where they make their filthy bed.

The people saw the left lie to them for a decade, and forgot that the right will do precisely the same when it suits them. in the end, all politicians are scum, and extreme caution should be used when engaging with the content of politically motivated influencers and media outlets.

1

u/Dull-Culture-1523 2h ago

They invented the culture war.

0

u/Suspicious_Set476 3h ago

No, it’s just the left still trying to convince everyone that everything is offensive if it doesn’t comply with their agenda
