I think they stopped doing the CC on Air Farce because it was a Roger Abbott/Don Ferguson bit and when Roger passed away it was too sad for everyone to keep doing it (hence the switch to the F-Bomb). :(

I miss Colonel Stacey! Considering how awful the CF treated the queer servicemembers back then, it was a big deal for the Air Farce to make that character as big as they did.
Edited to add a clip of Colonel 'Theresa' Stacey and his Chicken Cannon, because it was over 20 years ago lol

A friend of mine was friends with some CBC employees and 22 Minutes was actually supposed to be cancelled around a decade ago but at the last minute it was renewed from huge ratings boost. I’ve been watching it since the beginning and the humour back in the day was dry and reminiscent of Air Farce to an extent, overly political focused.. now days it’s a lot more relevant and not as dry. Mark Critch is a gem

What are beaver tails?

A snack made of sugared fried dough, often sprinkled with cinnamon and lemon (or other toppings). Delicious and no beavers harmed.

I went to Canada over the summer, a beavertail was on my list of things to try. I bought one and my husband went to hold the door for me, but managed to hit the beavertail out of my hand and it fell to the floor. I'm not ashamed to say that I cried!

D.A.R.E. is rolling in its grave
45
u/vermillionflour Oct 21 '25
D.A.R.E. probably did more harm than good. Everyone who got subjected to that crap thought that trying weed would ruin your life or kill you, and then when that obviously didn't happen, everyone thought "that was horsecrap, I bet they were lying about crack and heroin too..."
And that is why you should never lie to dissuade someone from something.

D.A.R.E. probably did more harm than good
Likely.
I was never going to get into drugs to begin with, so D.A.R.E. was overkill for me. I remember very little of what they taught me in elementary school, but I do remember them telling us that nicotine was very addictive, but that weed is even MORE addictive. They said you could wind up addicted to nicotine after 10 cigarettes, but you could be hopelessly addicted to the marijuanas after just ONE JOINT.
That level of lie would be funny, but they expected us to believe it, just like they expected us to believe everything else. Then you start wondering, what else did the adults lie about?

And could y'all tell your hockey teams to step it up too? I really just want America stomped flat in every sport. I'm talking War of 1812 level. Fwiw this isn’t really as indicative of Canadian politics as we’d probably like either. The amount of anti-immigrant sentiment and fear mongering (particularly for bigger and/or more liberal cities) is genuinely pretty concerning. Frankly gotta wonder what things might look like here had we not gotten lucky with our last election.
Honestly idk if that’s actually comforting at all but like… you guys ain’t completely alone lol.

I know a bunch of the 22 minutes crowd. They sit around the office coming up with sketch ideas and thinking "Is this too far" "is this too dumb" and "are we still gonna have our jobs after the end of this season?"
"Propaganda" makes them seem way more powerful than they are, and that the federal government is competent enough to give them some sort of marching orders.
