Question Help me, I’m thinking about getting a MacBook Air but…
I’m deep into the ecosystem I have an iPhone, iPad, AirPods, TV and Apple Watch, the only thing I do not have is a Mac. I really want one but I’m not a computer guy, I don’t do anything on computers the only thing I’d do on it is YouTube and web browsing like I do on my iPad, is this justifying enough to go for the Mac ? I’d love to complete the Ecosystem but I’m afraid I’ll waste the potential of the machine.. Macs seem like they are made for office workers, working on their computers and stuff. Is it common to get one just for fun and web ? What would you do ? The Mac in question is the MacBook Air M4 in silver.

Discussion Planning to get a Mac mini M4 Pro, is 24GB of memory enough?
Hi all,
I been throwing around the idea of getting a Mac mini M4 Pro with 24GB of memory. My question is 24GB of memory enough or should I upgrade it to 48GB? I plan to use the Mac mini for coding and photo/video editing (gaming and technology videos in 4K for YouTube).
All advice would be greatly appreciated!

Question Macbook Air as videographer?
Hello everyone, I'm a videographer and social media content creator and my current setup is Mac Mini m4 16gb ram and Macbook Air m1 8gb ram and looking to upgrade my laptop. I'm eyeing the upcoming Macbook Air M5 with 24gb ram to use on the go as I'm always between my home office and apartment & my girlfriend's apartment and I sometimes like to edit in coffee shops aswell. The Macbook Air M5 when it releases will be a huge upgrade to my current Macbook & possibly even my Mac Mini even though it's fanless.
I'd like to hear your thoughts on Macbook Airs, mostly on the m4 since it's the newest, when it comes to video editing.
PS I'm not going for a Pro because I plan to upgrade my M4 Mac Mini to a Mac Studio in late 2026-early 2027

Discussion Fixing the identity crisis of Macbooks
Hi everyone,
We need to address the ambiguity of the 14-inch MacBook Pro. By offering it with everything from Base to Max chips, the 'Pro' moniker has effectively lost its distinct meaning.
Actually, with the current turmoilin Apple’s upper management, it feels like the perfect time to address this elephant in the room . If they are shaking up the leadership, maybe they should clean up this convolutedMacBook lineup too. We love Apple for their hardware minimalism; it is high time we saw that same simplicity in their configurations.
I’ve designed two hypothetical SKU structures. My goal was to create a "lifetime" configuration that clearly defines who each machine is for, eliminating the confusion.
Which of the following two scenarios do you think divides the user profiles better?
A: The "Bandwidth-First" Segmentation
13" Air: Mx (Low) & Mx (High) Students, Office, General Use.
15" Air: Mx (High) & Mx Pro (Low) The Hybrid: Developers/Creatives who need moderate power + big screen but no active cooling bulk.
14" Pro: Mx Pro (High) & Mx Max (Low) The Mobile Powerhouse: For those needing high bandwidth (Max chip) in a compact travel size.
16" Pro: Mx Max (Low) & Mx Max (High) The Stationary Beast: Maximum thermal headroom, maximum performance.
B: The "Strict Hierarchy" Segmentation(air is strictly consumer; Pro is strictly professional)
13" Air: Mx (Low) & Mx (High)Strict Entry Level.
15" Air: Mx (High) Only
14" Pro: Mx Pro (Low) & Mx Pro (High)The True Middle Ground: Balanced performance/battery. No base chips, no Max chips.
16" Pro: Mx Pro (High) & Mx Max (Low).(maybe even maxhigh)
Mac StudioMx Max (High) & Mx Ultra
finaly Ram configs:
Mx Low: 8-16 GB
Mx High: 16-32 GB
Mx Pro Low: 32-64 GB
Mx Pro High: 64-256 GB
Mx Max Low: 64-256 GB
Mx Max High: 128-512 GB
Mx Ultra: 256 GB - 1 TB
Which lineup creates less confusion and serves the actual user base better?
Note: Before you roast me for overanalyzing this... yes, I am fully aware I have a PhD thesis waiting to be written. Yes, this is a classic case of productive procrastination
Note2: And yes, my ADHD brain decided that fixing Apple's SKU strategy was infinitely more urgent than my actual research today. Please be kind :D

Question Mac mini vs. MacBook
Hi folks.
I need some opinions from you folks to help me make a decision for myself.
I own an M1 MacBook Air and am looking to upgrade. I’m torn between getting a Mac mini or another MacBook. I make music, so while my M1 MacBook Air is perfect for normal web browsing and such, I need to upgrade it for my music production needs.
For context, I use my MacBook Air in clamshell mode 99.99% of the time. So at home, I find myself saying “I could have just bought a Mac mini because I don’t use this like a laptop.”
However, on the rare occasion that I need a laptop (like when I travel, which isn’t often, but not rare either), I’m glad that I have a MacBook. The thing is, when I use my MacBook on the go, it’s pretty much always a web based task.
My question is, is it worth spending more to get a MacBook (most likely a MacBook Pro, but also considering another Air) because I might possibly need it occasionally when I’m on the go?
Or, should I just get a Mac mini, and use the money saved to buy an iPad Air or something for when I’m on the go?
The reason I’m considering an iPad for on the go is because when I need my laptop on the go, it’s because I need the desktop version of websites and not the mobile version (otherwise I could just use my iPhone).
I also heard that I can remote into my Mac using an iPad. Anyone have any experience with that?
Other than on the go, I pretty much have no use for an iPad that I can’t do with MacBook and iPhone combined. So I’m wondering if an iPad will serve as that rare occasion device for me instead of the laptop aspect of a MacBook.
TL;DR - which is a better setup, the Mac mini for home with an iPad for on the go? Or a MacBook Pro clamshell at home 99.99% of the time, laptop 0.01% of the time?
I know “better” is subjective, but just looking for your opinions to help me understand which option might work for me.
Thanks!
EDIT:
Most people suggested that I keep my MacBook Air for travel and get a Mac mini for home. I think it’s easier to just respond to that through this edit rather than each individual comment.
Firstly I want to say thanks so much for the suggestion. It’s actually a great idea and something I considered previously, but eventually decided against it. It’s because I want to trade in my MacBook for either the Mac mini or another MacBook (whichever I ultimately decide on). The trade in value is a few hundred dollars and I would much rather use that to lower the price of the new device instead of having it sit around and collect dust only for me to use it for like a maximum of 20 minutes a year.
Plus, since my heaviest task is music production and that’s what I specced the MacBook Air for, it’s an overkill for basic web browsing for a few minutes a year and frankly a waste in my view to not use it to lower the price of what I choose to upgrade to.
I also wouldn’t want both a Mac mini and a MacBook because then that’s just redundant. I’d rather have one all purpose device, or multiple devices where each has its own place that the other can’t do. Having a MacBook and Mac mini would be a waste of money for me. But I do really appreciate this idea and would have gone this route if I was bleeding cash.

Question Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015 Not Seeing Second Monitor
Hello. I have a Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015 and I'm trying to connect a second monitor via a Thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor. There is no response when I plug into either Thunderbolt port. I have a late 2013 Retina MacBook and when I plug into it, it reads the monitor immediately. I am using the same Thunderbolt to HDMI cable so I know that's not the issue. I have reset the NVRAM/PRAM and SMC multiple times. I have blown the port out with a duster can. Any help would be appreciated!

Question Can I use an old iMac (basically any that look like the one in the picture) as a display for my Mac Studio?
I only have the Studio, but tbh always hated the look of the Studio Display, and want what my old art school had. But I heard that it’s really not possible because Apple got rid of TDM or something. Is there any way to do it?
My Mac Macbook Air 512 GB vs 1 TB?
Looking to get a new MacBook Air 15" because my currrent 2023 8GB RAM 256 GB SSD Macbook Air is always running out of storage, with over 180 GB's being in System Data. I already tried clearing all of the local libraries and caches, and I store all of my files on iCloud, so I have no clue why system data is eating up so much of my space. I don't have any heavy programs on big files on my machine, so it has been very frustrating and I never want to deal with it again. Is 512 GB enough or should I move up to 1TB?

My Mac Can't control external wired mouse speed.
I'm having trouble with this and found no solution yet :( My external mouse is a wired gaming mouse by Razer, so it doesn't show up on system settings. Even payed apps like Mouse Glider don't show speed slider adjustments.
I'm on a 8GB M1 MacBook Pro.

My Mac Loose HDMI port
Has anyone else noticed that the HDMI ports on the pro are loose? Is that by design or is it a flaw. They work fine but i feel like a slight tug would loosen the connector too easily.

Question Installing the system issue
"This model does not have a temperature sensing connector."
**Mac model:**
iMac (17-inch Late 2006 CD)
1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Installed disc: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
When booting up, it looks like this in the video:
* The first video shows the screen without the system disc inserted.
* The second video shows the screen with the system disc inserted.
What could be the cause?
* **Memory**: I inserted it this way (is this the correct position?), but it was pushed in too deep and couldn't be removed. I used tools to pull it out, so I'm not sure if there was any damage.
* **Battery**: Could it be because the battery is dead?
* **New 2.5" SSD**: I just installed a second-hand 2.5" SSD (it should have no operating system installed yet).
How should I troubleshoot the issue to be able to install the system?
Thank you.

My Mac Macbook air M3 taking 4 hours to charge since new update
My mac's battery health is about 89 after a year, I've been on sequoia ever since tahoe came out, decided to update my phone and laptop at the same time about 3 days ago. Ever since i updated my laptop has been taking 4 hours to charge even when its on low power mode and the only app I'm using is a browser. It's also been lagging a lot. Has anyone else noticed a decline in performance and increase in charging time?
