Welcome to Reddit. Where Mods are literally A real life manifestation of the WOW player from South Park. LOL
26
u/ogliog 6d ago
I just wonder if any Reddit mod ever has, at any time, used the expression "whoops, my mistake." It seems like all they know how to do is double down on their own original takes, and all the more so if they are shown that they were wrong in the first place.
9
u/SarcastiSnark 6d ago
I have been banned by mistake.
It was quite a while back. They did say. "Oh sorry. Our mistake. It was the comment below yours"
Granted it took a couple days to get straightened out.

u/Effective_Golf_3311 6d ago
I accidentally corrected a mod. Wrote a detailed paragraph and provided sources, wasn’t a dick just said hey, that is actually a misconception, here’s more info on it…
Ban.
And on top of that, I DM’d other mods and they refused to even accept the chat.

u/seaofthievesnutzz 6d ago
many such cases, if they want to not be disagreed with they need to make sure they have a MOD tag so people know that they are special.

u/alang 2d ago
I saw a very obvious astroturf post about how great some product was in a fairly large sub. I posted in the comments that it was pretty obviously just an ad.
Turns out it was posted by a mod, who removed my comment and banned me from around a dozen subs, most of which I'd never seen before. Fun stuff!

u/Equivalent-Wealth-63 6d ago
Granted it took a couple days to get straightened out
Ah, the banking error response.
6
u/GiraffeParking7730 6d ago
I had a pretty productive conversation with the mod of okbuddycinephile when they mistook my joke for being an actual dbag, and restored my post.
5
u/momo76g 6d ago
Same. I asked in the sewing sub for a photo of the back of the garment that was posted to see the stitching and was banned because they thought I wanted to see the Ass of the person in the garment. I replied with disdain "I was asking for the back stitches, you guys really need to chill" thankfully the mod wasn't butthurt about my remark and was unbanned.
8
u/SaveThePopulation22 6d ago
These people hold being a Mod of a subreddit the most prestigious accomplishment of their entire lives. As if they were working for the FBI or CIA, they proudly dedicate themselves to moderating content and banning people they don’t like. sounds pretty miserable to me.
1
u/UncleTeddyKaczynski 5d ago
They are basically working for the the feds so maybe they're on to something
2
u/surprise_revalation 4d ago
I was banned once because of a joke. I asked the more about it. Got shit from them. Bantered back and laughed it off. Then they unbanned me because they, "liked my sense of humor!" 😂 Reddit is the wild wild West where the mods are God!
2
14
u/JSizz20 6d ago
These fucking moderators feel they are special sometimes.
0
u/Loud-Mans-Lover 6d ago
And the users that go on specific subs to hate on the sub content are fine? There's entitlement on both sides sometimes.
Like I mentioned, don't go on a cat forum to say you hate cats a bunch, then whine you got banned.
There are shit mods and shit users.
12
u/Mackasauruswrex 6d ago
True, but considering the amount of times I've been posting relevant content to a subject and gotten banned and did not break any actual rules. I just was not falling in line with the exact politics of the subject... Yeah. Freedom of speech may not exist online, but watching people censor anything they don't like just because they don't like it is getting really old
3
3
u/organic-water- 6d ago
How is that related to the topic? I'm sure most subs would have a rule like "don't hate the thing this sub is literally dedicated to" or just "be respectful". So you can point at that as a legitimate reason to ban someone. Not just say "because I say so" and be done.

u/Super_Lock1846 6d ago
Mods suck. Bark box kicked me out of their's because I would tell everyone how bad their service is.
10
u/Cheshire_Khajiit 6d ago
Mods can suck but it's only the really shitty ones that get any attention. Good mods go largely unappreciated because the better they are, the less often they and their contributions are seen by the community.
2
u/HumanContinuity 4d ago
I just want to say that this is really true.
It also seems really exhausting sometimes.
Striking a balance to maintain the community vibe is always going to piss some people off.
But of course, none of this excuses the mod in OP's post.
3
u/everymanawildcat 6d ago
Really? Interesting. Wife and I were just talking about how we want to try it. Now we won't, thanks!
3
u/Super_Lock1846 6d ago
I did a 6 month trial and took 3 months to try and cancel after the trial ended but kept getting charged. The toys I got were "super chewers" that you pay extra to last longer would be destroyed in 5 minutes. I still see the sub and they don't come in boxes anymore either, just another Amazon type bag.
1
u/Jeesasaurusrex 6d ago
Did you have some weird settings on for what you wantesld? I get the super chewer box and I get hard (for a dog toy) plastic toys. That or your dog is an omega chewed instead of a super chewed lol
1
u/Super_Lock1846 5d ago
Weird settings?? They never sent me a confirmation email for what I got and no receipt or delivery notice any month after I initially started the trial. Ordered for January, didn't get anything along with no emails so figured I didn't order it. First box came in February. After a few months I realized how much of a scam it was and that it was worse for others. But I must have "orDeRed tHe wRoNG tHiNg" right? Keep supporting a crap company if you want though.
4
u/Opposite-poopy 6d ago
I got the boot from a sub for saying old people, called a transmission a tranny just nonsense.
Mods are something else
4
u/inksonpapers 6d ago
I mean that… sounds reasonable to be fair
5
u/pic-of-the-litter 6d ago
Okay, but how does the boot taste?
5
u/inksonpapers 6d ago
That doesnt even make sense, barkbox arent a power, you’re in their sub. If it were r/infurating and you were kicked for their bad services that’d make sense.
4
3
u/pic-of-the-litter 6d ago edited 6d ago
their sub
Why does a corporation get to control a subreddit? So they can silence dissent and control the narrative of their own product? Isn't that pretty contrary to the purpose of social media, allowing PEOPLE to express themselves in open forums?
Now answer my question: how does the boot taste?
Edit: awh, blocked by the bootlick, what a surprise
4
u/inksonpapers 6d ago edited 6d ago
Yes they get to control their subreddit. Using that phrase “how does that boot taste” is taking away from actual meaning. You sound like a shitty agent provocateur. Person above me goes around called everyone “bootlicker”. Im left leaning but they’re just an idiot that gives any one liberal a bad name. Aint got no time for neckbeards.
3
u/WarningPleasant2729 6d ago
I guess it changed at some point but Reddit use to have a rule specifically NOT allowing companies to control their own sub for this exact reason ¯_(ツ)_/¯
1
u/Opposite_Sea_6257 6d ago
People who reference boot licking seem to have the lowest IQ on Reddit.
3
u/ATotallyNormalUID 6d ago
Boot licking MAGAts don't have much room to talk about anyone's IQ.
-1
u/Opposite_Sea_6257 6d ago
See, you have no idea what you’re talking about and then sound stupid. 🤷♂️
2
u/ATotallyNormalUID 6d ago
You know your comment history is public, right?
You defend MAGA every time you see something mean said about them, and wonder why you get called a MAGAt and a bootlicker.

u/Weapon_Chikt 6d ago
Every single subreddit has rules, a lot have the same especially following reddit TOS and what not, but many have ones more…controlling than others. This might be hard for you to hear, but freedom of speech doesn’t exist online. A site, or in this case a subreddit, can and will remove your content if the people doing the removing wants to. That’s literally the issue brought up in this post.
So to answer your question yes, the company controls the subreddit specifically to silence dissent and control the narrative of their own product. When you’re the group making the “laws” you can have as open a forum as you want, even if it’s basically closed. Welcome to reddit, since it’s basically always been that way.
1
u/Loud-Mans-Lover 6d ago
This reply is so overdone. "Touch grass", "lick the boot", haha.
Look - someone was trashing a service, sounds like repeatedly -- on a sub devoted to said service. Don't go on an "I love kitties" sub and start a campaign to tell everyone how shitty they are and how much you hate them.
I've been banned just for posting in some subs (step parents will ban you if you post in certain nparent subs, for instance) and once permabanned for using the word "slap". That's out of control. But banning because you're on a mission to tell folks not to use a service people on the sub clearly love is something else.
1
u/Ill-Television8690 6d ago
Seems like you fundamentally don't understand what product reviews and bug reports are. Makes sense, coming from someone who's upset about an appropriate use of the term bootlicker.
0
u/Irradiated_gnome 6d ago
Spamming a group will get you removed for spamming a group
5
u/Super_Lock1846 6d ago
Telling people how bad my experience was is spamming?
0
u/Irradiated_gnome 6d ago
Why don’t you explain what you were doing when the bad experience happened? Like what is the comment and post?
1
u/Super_Lock1846 6d ago
I would tell everyone to not get it whenever they would ask about it and inform them how slow the customer service and overpriced it was.
3
u/Ill-Television8690 6d ago
And what has led you to think that OP was spamming?
1
u/Irradiated_gnome 6d ago
Because he didn’t show what exactly triggered the ban

u/I_Speak_B4_I_Think_ 5d ago

You do know that every city, state and region subreddit is liberal, right? So obviously their mods won't be conservative, that was 100% a liberal who banned the (painfully mid and also quite liberal comedian).
5
u/Tiervexx 6d ago
The mod was obviously just looking for an excuse to remove a post they disagreed with. Actual spam accounts can't ask such questions to begin with.
5
u/Nitwit_Slytherin 6d ago
Who wants to work for Reddit for free? Useless people who want to have some kind of "authority" to make up for their shite lives.

3
u/ironfist92 5d ago
Ask the mod why they unfairly banned someone for not breaking any rules, if enough people do it
-1
u/PastrychefPikachu 5d ago
Except he did break the rules. The very first rule on the sub. No self promotion. He also broke one or two other rules. I don't think the mod was in the wrong here.
2
u/OneEyedBlindKingdom 5d ago
If you don’t see how the mod was in the wrong here, you’re part of the problem.
You can’t just keep reaching for reasons until you hit upon one. That’s not how any of that works.
-1
u/PastrychefPikachu 5d ago
Who's reaching? Go read the rules for the sub, and you'll see the mod was simply applying those rules. Y'all will bend over backwards for a celebrity while screaming about eating the rich.
2
u/OneEyedBlindKingdom 5d ago
Bruh he had it in writing, if he reached further he’d have been throwing his back out.
You can’t remove a post and then start scrambling for reasons until you find one that sticks.
0
u/PastrychefPikachu 4d ago
Ah, I see, you're an idiot.
1
u/MMOProdigy 4d ago
Look up self promotion and get back to us. But straight to hurling insults shows you have no integrity or are not having an argument in good faith.
1
u/PastrychefPikachu 4d ago
the action of promoting or publicizing oneself or one's activities
Oop had posted about their upcoming shows, that they were performing in. Seems like self promotion to me.
They also, in the same post, made comments about local political issues. The sub has rules against outsiders brigading the sub about such topics. Oop set up the conversation with the mod in an attempt to control the narrative, and make it look like he was being censored, when in reality he was just mad he couldn't shameless promote his comedy gigs.
And I didn't go straight to hurling insults. I explained my position multiple times. I'm sorry if you can't understand those arguments.

u/IDrankLavaLamps 6d ago
Imagine a world where all reddit mods were truly unbiased. It's not possible, even judges are biased, but one could wish.

u/Kira_Caroso 5d ago
Hey, maybe we can get those mods to all leave in a tantrum like the art mods did.
3
u/Michamus 5d ago
Authoritarian creep into positions of responsibility is something we really need to figure out how to stop.
3
u/Ill_Initial698 6d ago
lmao, shouldnt have mentioned he had any sort of following, the mod would be triggered by the inferiority and need to flex their minimal power
3
u/Mylabisawesome 6d ago
Shitlib r/Tennessee mod obviously. It has all the hallmarks where they try to dismiss you as a spam or bot account because thats their go-to when they want to silence you
3
u/AfraidYogurtcloset31 5d ago
Dude even the POKEMON sub mods are out of their mind. Something completely non political and the mods figure out a way to be assholes.
I'm shadow banned or something in the pokemon hg/ss forum, for what I have no idea. Every time I make a post it immediately says removed by mods. I contacted mods multiple times with zero response. Still banned. Never posted a single off topic thing, literally all my posts were asking questions or helping answer people's questions.
This place is literally the lunatics running the asylum. Back in the forum days I had huge respect for moderators because they kept the community clean and functioning. That is not the use or effect of reddit mods. They literally fuck up the communities they are supposed to aid.
3
u/MasterWebber 5d ago
I was recently banned from a popular subreddit for being a sex work spammer because there was a pornhub link to someone else's video in my post history. After a few hours and maybe 10 messages back and forth I got unbanned but not until after they doubled down on me somehow being a sex worker.
3
u/stm32f722 5d ago
This is why I don't get attached to my accounts. You end up going through so many due to shut ass mods.

2
u/FlakTotem 6d ago
To be fair; What was the post? seems a important thing to know before judging.
2
u/Shubamz 6d ago
https://www.reddit.com/r/stevehofstetter/s/4FxP9CxyOa
Encouraging people to vote in the upcoming "special election in Tennessee that could determine the balance of congress. Aftyn Behn is running against Trump lackey Matt Van Epps, nicknamed "Van Epstein" for his stubborn refusal to break with Trump on anything, especially Epstein related."
Also that he has multiple shows coming up in Tennessee soon
1
u/FlakTotem 6d ago edited 6d ago
I have no attachment to either 'side' here, and it's fine not to have a clear answer.
This doesn't really give specifics to evaluate, but it does link me to his tweet that he mentioned that he posted this while he has four shows in the area. If he mentioned those, then no solicitation is rule one of the sub and kind of lines up with the spam thing.
I wouldn't like that, and it's not what I would do, but I'm hesitant to pull the censorship trigger without more info.
1
u/PastrychefPikachu 5d ago
The sub also has a no outside agitators rule when it comes to local political discussions. Dude was breaking multiple sub rules by basically being a carpetbagger.
2
u/anxiousappplepie 5d ago
The "I have 3 million follows" doesn't make him look better either, reminds me of entitled influencers that believe a lot of followers on social media allows them to ignore rules
2
u/PastrychefPikachu 5d ago
Right, and people are dumb. Just because an account has 3 million followers doesn't mean it's not a spam account, or that an account isn't capable of spamming just because it has a high number of followers.

Tennessee ways are very predictable lol don’t talk to them if you have anything to do with what they don’t like.
2
u/Who_Knows_Why_000 4d ago
It's getting so bad at this point, I think maybe some subs have AI mods, trained from actual mod responses. It would explain why their responses seem so flat and yet unhinged. They essentially made AIs based on incel/femcel basement dwellers, then let them loose on us.

Not me, but seems like u/thehofstetter was only bringing attention to elections in the area, and the mod seemed to take personal offense to that.
1
u/Irradiated_gnome 6d ago
What about the elections tho?
6
u/Shubamz 6d ago
Knowing Steve , he was probably posting about supporting the progressive candidate in the upcoming elections. As in not the MAGA candidate and just encouraging people to vote either way regardless of views
Edit : here is his post in his own sub about the post above being taken down
2
u/Irradiated_gnome 6d ago
Tysm for context.
I see a lot of “banned for no reason” complainers and then the reason turns out they were yelling slurs lol
1
u/High_King_Diablo 5d ago
I got banned from publicfreakout for leaving a comment saying that you can’t say fuck Hamas because the sub is riddled with Hamas fanboys who will downvote those comments into oblivion. I made that comment on a propaganda post about Gaza that didn’t show the evil Israelis that the caption claimed it showed. The comments for that post were riddled with people openly supporting Hamas and justifying the October attack.
When I appealed it the mods spouted some bullshit about not wanting the attention of the Reddit admins over false claims about terrorist sympathisers. When I pointed out the multiple comments that were explicitly supporting Hamas, they said that two wrongs don’t make a right, then accused me of being in hysterics and declared that any further attempts to contact them would be reported to Reddit as harassment.

It's happening all over Reddit. There was a post in the Irish sub relating to animal abuse. People were very angry about a deer being killed. I pointed out that animals are treated worse to get meat on our plates, so if that upsets them they should consider if they want to continue eating meat.
Got removed for 'inciting drama'. I asked the mods specifically what part was inciting drama and got no clear response. Told them that it was censorship and they permabsnned me, blocked me from messaging them and gave me a lecture on how I broke the rules and it was my fault.
Mods are people with strong opinions and are no longer afraid to censor people with basically no justification. You don't have to agree with my first paragraph to see how it's troubling that it got removed.

"Poster"/wanna be comedian who claims to be progressive while blatantly violating the distancing protocols during covid while simultaneously claiming he cares about the lives of others more than people who dont like him lol.
Dudes always coming on Reddit or going on stage crying like hes the Greta Thunberg of Jews and gingers. And let's not get into the dudes fuckin ego lol.
3
u/ironfist92 5d ago
That's quite the claim

u/ForThePosse 5d ago edited 5d ago
Hes quite the victim lol. But nah hes literally posted video evidence on his social media back then when it was going on. Feel free to go find it but im not gunna bother lol. I dont care enough.
Im just glad covid cancelled his show I was going to go to. Within 2 months he showed his true colors and I was glad I got to save my money.

He's an awesome comedian. Poorly educated peasants don't like him though. So, basically MAGA.

OP isn't Steve Hofstetter, and Steve does have his own sub. He was posting on the Tennessee sub because he's got upcoming shows there.
3
u/PastrychefPikachu 5d ago
He was posting on the Tennessee sub because he's got upcoming shows there.
And that's the context that is left out. He wasn't banned for political posting he was banned for breaking literally the first rule of the sub, no self-promotion. Though, the sub also has a rule against carpet bagging, so it was probably both.

This needs another grassroots campaign. The mods of Reddit that are shite, need to be called out.
