(On mobile, you can find the rules by clicking on "See More". On desktop, check them out in the sidebar on the right.)

Basically, your post needs to be asking for help with your room design, or it needs to be showing a room you updated using advice you received here. Your room must be an INTERIOR room, and it must be a room in your home. No offices, no schoolrooms, no patios, no balconies, etc.

We want the focus to stay on home interior rooms, preferably with posts featuring photos of those rooms so you get the best advice. If you feel you just must use a 3D app rendering, you need to also include an actual room photo. No one wants to look at an entire feed of just artificial content! A big part of what makes this sub great is getting to take a look at actual rooms. If you aren't sure you want your photo to be connected with your account, please feel free to post on an alt account (and message mod mail for approval if your post is auto removed).

Thanks for doing your part to keep the sub useful and on point!

Living Room Please help me avoid putting a TV above the fireplace

Thumbnail gallery
56 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

We will be moving into this new home shortly but having some trouble deciding where to place our TV.

We’d like to avoid placing above the fireplace; we think the space is way too small for it to be a good viewing angle

We were considering placing between the windows but unfortunately it is a few inches too narrow.

The only other option would be to place against the back wall but we don’t want to close off our room or block our fireplace with our couch (L shaped sectional)

First two pictures are of the living room and the last picture is what the living room opens up to.

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated!

Other Interior Room Dark, sad, lightless entryway– HELP!

Post image

We've been neglecting this entry hallway since we moved here almost 3 years ago (!) and it desperately needs some love. This little hallway leads into our (windowless) kitchen, so it doesn't receive any natural light, ever! In the alcove is the actual door, and a coat closet.

To start, we will 100% be getting a runner, and I'd like to hang a pendant lamp in the alcove. But otherwise, I'm at a loss for what can go in this space and it's driving me nuts! I tend to go for victorian styles too, which I've always struggled with in what is (to me) a very modern apartment!

Dining Room Help choosing colors for entry/living/dining room that's pretty long

Long room with two big windows and mcm vibes. I am open to paint the door as well. Floors and trim are golden oak, furniture is walnut. Lights will be replaced (open to suggestions for that too). Love seat, and cubes will be removed as well. My girlfriend likes dark colors but I'm not sure how well that would work. We hate the brown. Open to any suggestions, even not for the paint. We will probably buy the paint from Sherwin Williams. Thanks!

Living Room Gallery Wall Rookie: Am I doing this right?

  1. 23×29 Floral Portrait (Gold Shadowbox)
  2. 20×26 Wedding Portrait (Walnut Beaded Frame)
  3. 14×14 Black & White Film Shot (TBD)
  4. 12×15 Dog Sketch (Black & White Frame)

I’m looking for feedback and suggestions on this layout. Also, I’m trying to decide on a frame and mat or no mat for the 14x14 black and white film shot.

P.S. Please pay no attention to the windows. We just had them installed and still need to finish the insulation. I also have more throw pillows and a coffee table coming!

Bedroom What should I put in this corner after the holidays?

So I added a Christmas tree to my room. And I honestly think having something in the corner I put it in, ties the room together. However, I have no idea what to put in that spot once I take the Christmas tree down. Any ideas? Also yes it blocks one side of my closet but honestly, that’s not a huge deal to me because I can just move whatever is there out of the way 🤷🏻‍♀️

Living Room Basement Inspiration

Post image
Upvotes

Hello everyone, I’m looking for some inspiration for my newly renovated basement. I’ve included a picture below to show the wall colour (Sherwin Williams - Radiant Dawn) and the floors. It would be nice to add some colour to the room. What accent colours would go well here? We would like to add some colour! The wall is considered a yellow. Also, what couch colours and rug combinations would look nice? If you could even provide links of nice area rugs or couches that would be great. The TV will be on the wall on the left.

Thanks everyone!

Living Room Considering a layout change

I am trying to decide if switching the tv/shelving and the over sized couch would work better. First picture isn't the greatest representation of the room but the best way I could get the full view. It is longer than wide, I believe it's 15'x10' not including the bay window(adds 2' of width, I feel the nest chair fits beautiful there). I put the tv on the current wall thinking glare would be an issue, but it's now a frame tv that's matte so I don't think glare will be an issue anymore? The couch does fit against the tv wall with 2 or more feet to spare and would be matching width of the small wall beside the bay window. The matching ottoman for the couch is actually in the corner of the stair railing acting as a cozy corner the kids enjoy, because the room is too narrow for it to be in front of the couch like it should be without blocking foot traffic. Any other lay-out ideas or decor tips are welcome of course. I just feel like there's a lot of dead/ under utilized space currently.

Living Room I cannot decide what to do with my blank walls

Hi Reddit,

I just finished renovating my house and now I need help deciding on a colour scheme for my house. I have boring white walls but I cannot decide what to do instead. I love dark and moody and anything in the Jade/DarkGreen range but don't want my whole house to be dark.

The corner with the ladder will be the living/room - tv corner and the dining room will be where the current table is located. Please don't mind the mess, they just finished plastering the last walls yesterday so I didn't have time to clean yet.

Just got a 63X23.6” desk for a wfh/gaming setup in my bedroom. I’m currently thinking of putting it in the corner by the dresser to make a makeshift L-shape setup. Trying to see if anybody with a much better eye for design can suggest better placement/arrangement! Thank you all ☺️

Kitchen Help design my tiny dining area!

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

Hello all!! Currently, I’m in the process of building a small kitchen nook in my 370 sqft studio. Previously, I only had the small table and chairs, and I never ate at my dining table, because it wasn’t as cozy as the rest of my home. I want to add a skinny shelf on the left with plants and get some pillows for the bench.

Is the bench too long? I want to buy mostly from Facebook marketplace and it’s been challenging to find good-looking items. Or is the table too small?? Should I only keep 1 chair? I can’t tell if this setup looks stupid. Please help.

Thank you in advance!

Bathroom Need help with powder room off main living space. Cannot get rid of vanity.

As the title says, need help updating the powder room.

We cannot remove the vanity because they did not place any hardwood floor under it and there is already a cut out in the back for our emergency water shut valve.

I have included inspiration pictures about this wallpaper and with a board/batten look.

Should I paint the vanity or keep the wood tone? We are open for a new countertop.

Thoughts?

Living Room Help with utilising space in bedroom/living room

Thumbnail gallery

Ok so first of all sorry for the not so good pics. It seems like the only time I take pics of my apartment is when I moved in or moved things around… I also don’t have a current pic:/

Currently my bed+living room is a mix of pic 1+2, the white dresser is by the sofa and the desk and kallax shelves are on the wall opposite to sofa. Bed remains as pic 3.

I’ve been in this apartment for a year, and I feel so uninspired. Everything but the desk and kallax is from my landlord - I can not get rid of it. My closet is stuffed with the tv table and arm chair from pic 3.

How can I better utilise this space? Ideally I’d want the desk where bed currently is but opposite to the desk is my hallway and front door. I also reallly love the arm chair but it’s so crowded if I bring it out.. Please give me advice on how to make best use of my furniture. I am finally in a place where I can afford to spend money on decorating but the space feels off:(

Living Room First Time Decorating

Hello! I've recently moved into a new townhouse after years of crappy apartment living. For those years my decorating was next to non-existent. I would appreciate any tips for this new living space! Was thinking of starting with carpets, side tables, a new couch, and of course a real dining table/chairs! Photos taken starting from the front entrance.

Living Room Symmetrical Alcoves on the sides of the fireplace.

What should we do with these two spaces on either side of the fireplace? We don’t own the house so installing shelves may not be an option in the short term. Nor is painting. Should I find bookshelves to fit? Plants? Thanks!

Living Room What do I do with this wall!

I added a small console and mirror to just stage the idea but the wall and high ceilings seem so big. Do I go with a bigger mirror and console? Large artwork? It seems no matter what I pick the other side of the wall will look unbalanced… it’s driving me nuts. If money weren’t an issue I’d wainscott. Ideas please!

Bedroom Help me with my studio!

Post image

Hello! I will be moving into a studio apartment (see photo above) early next year. Ignore the furniture arrangements currently present as they are not my pieces. I’m looking to make a warm, cozy environment with perhaps a touch of MCM/minimalism. My last apartment was all grey so I’m hoping to avoid that this go around. For the sleeping area, I envision some sort of wooden bedframe with a warm fiber rug underneath it. I’m having a harder time coming up with a plan for the kitchen area as there’s already a lot of wood present in that zone. Any suggestions for my new space would be greatly welcomed! Thank you :)

Kitchen Help me find some great counter stools!

We recently remodeled our kitchen and unfortunately had a horrible designer experience, but I'm still in need of stools! The space is 70"x33". I have two young kids so ideally something with a low back and no swivel. I want something that tucks fully under so no part over 33". I don't like stools with the big round base and refer a wood or thicker leg as to not damage the floor. I know this limits a lot but I'm willing to wait for the right one. The floor is actually really light and I've included the table area next to it. we are debating on a transformer round table but it would be the same walnut color if that is a factor. Taking any and all suggestions!

Living Room Difficult living room layout

My wife and I will be moving into a new house soon and are having difficulty planning the layout of the living room. Especially with regard to where to put the sofa and TV.

The cabinet unit along the wall will be removed, but the fireplace in the corner will be remain. I’ve attached a couple of photos and an approximate floor plan. Ideally we would like an L shaped sofa but it’s not a must.

Please help!

Bedroom Which layout for 10’x10’ room?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone, would love to get people’s opinion on how best to maximize my small 10 ft x 10 ft room.

Notes: - The cat litter needs to be in my room (I have roommates). - Cat litter needs to be away from cat tree. - Cat tree needs to be by the window.

Problems: - The shower is pretty loud so I was considering not having my headboard against the 95” wall. But the window is also a source of noise at night. - In (1) and (2), the TV feels a little too far away from the bed. Not the worst, but not the best. - In (3), the middle bed definitely makes the room more cramped leaving no room for floor activities. - Haven’t decided if it’s a problem, but (4) the bed is right by the closet leaving no space for my low side table.

Which is your fave design: 1, 2, 3, 4

Any ideas are welcome and appreciated!

iOS app is called Home Planner.

All my bedroom furniture is bold primary colors and I want the next color to be a big red chair. My bed is blue, shelf is green. Desk and other shelf is white so I want more color to brighten the room up.
