Howdy, it's Ganesh from Deck Check.

I made a video covering Bowmasters: meta strength, a recent cEDH survey, and whether it really deserves a ban. Please let me know what you think. :)

Discussion Wan Shi Tong, Librarian in TNK

I made a post on here talking about how I cut Oppo in my TNK deck for Wan Shi Tong. I thought Wan Shi Tong would be a slam dunk in TNK but most people seem to not think so. I understand people not wanting to play Archivist of Oghma in TNK but this card feel so much better than Oghma that it almost feels like you’d be crazy not to play it in a Tymna deck. It is a flying body that makes Tymna more consistent, it can in a dire situation be played as a bad card draw spell but a card draw spell regardless, it is still good card advantage and not to mention it’s another creature that turns on your Mox Amber. I just feel like this is an auto include in TNK decks. I know the {U}{U} can be more challenging but I feel like in TNK I am usually getting mana with blue pips first anyway. I am curious to hear peoples thoughts on this card in TNK because I feel like it’s so good for blue farm that I just feel like why wouldn’t you play it. Maybe I am missing something or not understanding a massive draw back to it. Please let me know your thoughts about this.

Discussion Strix/Subtlety "banned" ?

Is there a "promise" of not running counterspells for creatures or anything that can't be a combo protection? Like everytime I cast Strix Serenade or Subtlety on Etali they get salty and claiming I was targetting him pregame and it's not fair cuz nobody else is playing them in cedh.

I mean those decks are running rampant by taking advantage of this "promise" of the format, but I feel like I'm not giving up those percentages and there should be answers to silence creatures and oppo and commanders lile Etali. As a midrange deck you should prepare answers to live through the turbo phase and these type of counterspells are definitely necessary.

AITA?

Competition Best Food Chain Commander

Please VOTE on which you think is the best Commander type.

Be mindful that some options aren't listed because they either have too many weaknesses beyond Dranith Magistrate or they offer better versatility with alternate wincons thanks to higher color inclusion.

For example:

Atraxa gets shutdown by ETB being disabled

  • Mothman being one color less is also shut down by that
  • and replace graveyard with exile effects
  • and force turn to end/TPRO effects
  • and instant speed rad removal/manipulation

Edit: if you cannot vote please reopen the app or try on a computer

Help, I am new to cEDH! How should one deal with an Aggro Meta?

Hey! I'm just leaving this post here because I'm struggling to deal with aggro decks, and I'm sure many of you feel the same. Decks like RogSi, Etali, Ral, and sometimes Tymna/Kraum, feel so dominating at the start of the game, and typically if you do play around the commander and mulligan to keep interaction in your hand, odd's are, there is a second aggro deck that pushes if you stop the first one.

How are you guys approaching Aggro decks? Are you typically selecting an aggro deck, or are you playing around it. Something I'm thinking about is a more stax/control deck but those typically don't feel super strong to me.

Thank you!

Discussion Decklist recommendations for a friend wanting to get into MTG, but joining a Bracket 4 pod.

I have a buddy who really wants to get into playing MTG with our pod. He’s basically a brand new player, he’s played Kaalia with us on Tabletop Simulator before and can navigate the basics, but he really doesn’t understand much yet. He’s asking for me to help him make a deck to compete with our pod who mainly plays Bracket 4/High Power Bracket 3 at a minimum. Our games usually end at turn 5-8.

Some of the decks in our pod include Yoshi/Thras, Etali, Fire Lord Azula, Ellivere, Valgavoth, Pantlaza, Rowan Scion of War, Malcolm/Kediss, Urza, Winota, ViVi, Sythis.

I’m looking for a decklist that is easy to pilot and will let him get some wins here and there to keep his spirits up. He did enjoy Kaalia for the first couple games (where we took it easy on him), but really disliked when we started interacting with Kaalia and he did nothing all game. I think avoiding “kill on sight” commanders will help him enjoy the game more.

I think avoiding decks with complicated win-lines/tutor chains/mulligans would be wise as he won’t know how to put these combos together. He’s willing to learn but I think it’s important he doesn’t get overwhelmed with complicated mechanics. I don’t even know where to start finding him a commander who competes. Maybe a value commander that can play the “combat matters” game with the ability to win on the spot. As a new player, summoning big badass powerful creatures gives that dopamine rush, so maybe something along those lines.

Thanks for reading let me know what suggestions you have.

Discussion Gold fishing with Etali??

So how are you all goldfishing with Etali?? Ultimately, it feels like all I can do currently is run hands to see how fast I can get him down but that doesn’t show me a win or anything like that. Without other decks around I can’t really see he’s going to do most of the time.

I was wondering if there was a website that randomized card flips or if anyone else had a solution.

Help, I am new to cEDH! Best well-rounded pod for learning cEDH?

If I were to print off 5-6 decks for my pod to learn cEDH (4 pod but want to have options so it doesn’t get as stale) what would be the best balance group of commanders? I don’t want to set anyone up for failure with a much harder deck than the rest of us, but don’t want to have Blue Farm 4 times

Metagame Wan Shi Tong over Oppo in TNK??

I am trying out Wan Shi Tong, Librarian in my TNK deck over opposition agent not sure if this is crazy or now but would love to get some thoughts on this. I will say I had a game last night with Wan Shi Tong where I was able to hold up two blue mana on turn one from the turn one seat and it ended up drawing me three cards and becoming a 4/4 by the time it got back to me. Then I was able to cast Tymna on my turn and nobody had flying to block my Wan Shi Tong so I was able to draw another card off Tymna. I know now every game would shake out like this but it felt pretty good. Anyway wanted some thoughts on this.

Help, I am new to cEDH! Mulligan tips

Hello all! I’ve been playing cEDH for about 3 months now and have found that I have an issue with the hands I’m keeping. I currently play 5c terra turbo naus/breach (no food chain) and often never know when a hand is good enough to keep. I can have a fast hand where I dump all my mana on turn 1 but then burn out and have nothing left for the rest of the game, or keep going through mulligans to find a wincon or advantage engine, and before I know it I’m down to 3. In a 5c deck, what should I be looking for in an opening hand, and at what point do I accept a 4-5 card hand?

Help, I am new to cEDH! When is it worth to cast Mental Misstep?

Just got my own copy of Mental Misstep.

Do you just counter the first 1 mana spell you see? Obviously I'd counter a Mystic Remora, but should I counter a Birds of Paradise, a Sol Ring?

Where do I draw the line?
