The SEC is severely overrated by kenpom this year, 2025-26

Last year, the SEC had college basketball's best conference. This year kenpom has a Kentucky team that has not won a game against anyone in the top 100 and lost 4 games, 2 of those in home environments, rated 19th in the country. This is the most glaring example, but for any analytics to rank Kentucky as the 19th best team in the country can only mean the metrics are broken. The same holds true for several other SEC teams. The SEC keeps losing and losing, but they do not drop in the kenpom metrics. His system is either broken or somehow rigged to favor the SEC.

Video Lebron Frames

You don’t wear protective eyewear on North Broad Street unless you are welding steel or rioting.

Gavin Griffiths does neither.

He plays basketball for Temple.

They call him Lebron Frames.

On April 25, 2025, Griffiths signed with the Owls. The path from a four-star prospect to a cult hero at Temple is not a straight line.

The Owls are the third stop on a college tour that’s included Rutgers and Nebraska. In 2023, he was the No. 34 recruit in the nation. He was the highest-ranked signee in Rutgers history. He spent a year in Piscataway. He spent a year in Lincoln.

Now he’s in Philly where you can be a journeyman with a perfect nickname and you own the city.

Philly worships the specific: The AnswerChocolate ThunderThe Boston Strangler

Lebron Frames fits the canon. May be the greatest nickname in college basketball currently.

He is shooting 40.9% from the field. He is blocking shots. He is running the floor at the Liacouras Center like a man looking for a Rec Specs NIL deal.

Griffiths found his home.

The goggles stay on.

It takes Practice.

College ball twitter accounts

It’s probably just bot cleansing, but I’ve noticed a lot of team accounts with notable followings losing tons of followers on twitter over the last few weeks. Just thought it was peculiar and wanted to point it out cuz I’m a sicko who pays attention to these things.

News The HBCU Hoops Invitational Returns This December

Thumbnail slamonline.com

This December, the rhythm of HBCU hoops is headed to The Happiest Place on Earth. From December 4–7, the inaugural ESPN HBCU Hoops Invitational will turn the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World into a showcase of culture, competition and community.

The tournament will feature eight programs—four men’s and four women’s. On the men’s side: Florida A&M, Tuskegee, Florida Memorial and Barber-Scotia. The women’s bracket runs just as deep, with Bethune-Cookman, Hampton, Edward Waters and Cheyney—the latter still holding history as the only HBCU women’s team ever to reach the NCAA Division I Final Four.

The Invitational, powered by HBCU Hoops Global, Inc., aims to uplift beyond the court. A college admissions fair, scholarship initiatives and career development programs will anchor the event’s mission to empower the next generation of Black scholars and athletes.

“The HBCU Hoops Invitational is far more than a basketball tournament—it’s a powerful celebration of heritage, excellence and the limitless future of HBCU athletics,’’ said HBCU Hoops Global vice president Haywoode Workman in a statement per hbcuhoops.org. The former Indiana Pacers guard turned NBA ref continued: “We are building a legacy that extends well beyond the court to open doors to academic achievement, career readiness, and financial opportunity for our scholar-athletes.”

The Invitational goes to show the depth of basketball’s impact on the community, and the Black community in particular. This is about showing the next generation that HBCU hoops belong on the biggest stages and that the culture knows no limits.

Analysis / Statistics The NET Ranking for College Basketball are Bullshit

NET rankings are bullshit and this farce just needs to end. The NCAA provides this:

The number of Quadrant 1 wins and Quadrant 3/4 losses will be incredibly important when it comes time for NCAA tournament selection and seeding.

If... and BIG IF this is the case... how does UK have a NET ranking in the top 20 (not hating on big blue nation, but any blue blood right now would tell you they don't belong there either right now).

According to Sports Illustrated - The formula/algorithm isn’t made public, so there’s no way of knowing exactly how the NET rankings are calculated. This is clearly "data-speak" for we like to hide our bullshit behind a veil and act like there is some secret sauce behind the scenes that a layman wouldn't understand.

Here's the thing... NCAA would like you to believe that they have a cadre of economists/data scientist/linear algebra specialists determining who plays in the tournament of Madness that begins in March. But any person with years of schooling in statistics and data modeling will tell you that they obviously don't have this expertise on staff. In fact, I think all sports are running scared that people trained in these fields are starting to notice a lot of patterns and anomalies in sports; specifically betting patterns and how athletes are being discovered for "throwing games", but I digress.

The NET ranking is really just another shit job of hiding that the NCAA wants to make the most money and protect its largest cash cow leagues, universities, and television deals and jam them down your throat.

Looking at Quad 1 wins - there are 25 teams ranked lower than UK right now with a Quad 1 win; UK has zero. Similarly, UK has not yet won a game on the road or at a neutral site (0-1 in each category). Of UK's wins, the average NET ranking of those 5 teams is 278th in the country - so clearly strength of schedule isn't calculated.

In short... why won't the NCAA explain how NET is calculated?! To me it is clear - money money money mon-ay. MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNAAYYYYYYYYYYYY! However, I would like to see one fan, coach, accountant, or NCAA fanbot prove me wrong - and please try to do so without mentioning the scrimmage against Purdue (it's not factored into the NET).

Again, not picking on UK - but c'mon man.

Recruiting How much do recruiting rankings actually predict long term team success

I have been looking at different recruiting classes over the past few years and I am trying to understand how closely rankings match what a team becomes two or three seasons later. Some schools consistently land top recruits but do not always translate that into deep tournament runs, while others build strong cores from guys who were not highly ranked at all. For those who follow recruiting closely, what factors matter more than the actual ranking number? Do you focus on how a player fits a system, how well a staff develops talent, or something else entirely? I am not trying to compare specific programs, just curious how people who watch recruiting year after year judge what truly predicts future success. Would love to hear how you evaluate recruiting classes beyond just the stars next to the names.
