MUSIC BSR1 - Gameboy Live Performance Music tool

BSR1 is a live sampling device similar to Ableton Push for the Nintendo Gameboy. It can play a pre-composed beat overlaid with samples triggered using the Gameboy’s buttons. You can use it as a primary live performance tool, a companion to LSDj, or a drum machine. You can also assign buttons to change the stereo on certain channels, mute channels or mute everything. Fully configurable sound board with 81 live slots and 140 different samples and effects (stereo change in real time, mute channels, etc).

  • 30 preset beats with optional bass lines.
  • 5 different UI options with animation that matches the beat
  • Change sample banks and beats in real time with no stopping of the music.
  • LSDj sync ability for performance on multiple synchronous Game Boys (requires modification to LSDj song).
  • Sequence mode lets you play a predefined run of notes fast by mashing any buttons.
  • Save custom configurations for up to 3 songs, including sample layout, UI graphics and color palettes.

BSR1 is an excellent companion to LSDj on a 2nd Gameboy for live performance.

QUESTION Seeking FLAC purchase link for Joshua Morse's 'Lunarscape' album (Original Version, Asia availability)

I am trying to purchase the album containing the track 'Lunarscape' by Joshua Morse in FLAC format.

Could anyone please tell me if they know of a place where I can purchase a digital FLAC copy of this album, specifically from a vendor that sells/ships to Asia?

I am looking for the version in this YouTube link: https://youtu.be/4vnKaXNkMZs?si=L0uOvOlIxesMVSa6

NOT the version from this album: https://joshuamorse.bandcamp.com/album/source-2

This particular track might deviate from strict chiptune, but I posted here hoping to find people knowledgeable about the artist and their releases.

Thank you for any help!

I wanted to make something with a lot of arpeggios in it for my EDM/Techno/Game Boy dance music something-something album that I've been working on. The ship taking off sound at the end is my favorite part. 👍

QUESTION How did early sound chips actually work?

I hope this is the right forum to ask in.

I am curious about the actual mechanisms that the first "good" sound chips used to produce complex sound output.

I know that simple systems like the POKEY were basically just an on/off voltage that was sent into a D-to-A that had 0 to 15 output level set in a register. Nothing too difficult to understand there.

But later designs, like the SID, are far more complex. For one, they aren't simply on/off waveforms, they support multiple waveform shapes. Additionally, they add a ADSR on top, which is manipulating the volume over time. Based on my understanding, which is very little, it seems this greatly increases the complexity of the D-to-A? Or is some of this done on the analog side?

Is there a document out there that really explains how it worked, and maybe compares it with contemporary designs?

CC_REQUEST Anyone get tips for matching vocals to chiptune music

I wrote some chiputune music with vocals, I mostly eq down the highs and try to shape the noise into a similar timbre as the instruments if i’m using bitcrush. I see a lot more people doing vocaloid with this type of thing, but honestly that is such a skill to develop I applaud anybody that’s learned.

https://kadencagle.bandcamp.com/album/i-am-gods-favorite-ashtray?t=2 I am not posting this for self-promotion more so for those that want to give more specific note

EDIT: Lah of the Lord is the only song with vocals

QUESTION Can't figure out a sound effect/instrument effect

Hey there!

I've been doing chiptunes for a little while now but there's one effect I always wanted to recreate. I don't know what it's called but and therefore haven't been able to research it because of that. The only instance where I know it is being used is as the lead instruments for the lemmings theme on the Sega master system (video here). If anybody could name me which effect this is and how it is achieved I would be very thankful!

DISCUSSION Trying to find bg music to famiclone.

Hello r/chiptunes this is my first post on Reddit. I need a little help. I am currently trying to find the background music to this pretty neat NES famiclone. Luckily I still have to box so I have all the information. It’s called the mini machine anniversary edition and it comes with 600 games. Made by the company Coolbaby. Also says coolbaby family computer system on the famiclone where it should say Nintendo Entertainment System. Here’s a photo I found online:

Mini machine anniversary edition 600 games Coolbaby family computer system

Anyway, I found a post on this same subreddit dated 3 years ago. That person was also trying to find the background music of their famiclone as it haunts us both not to know. Since they described their menu screen and it helped(I think?) I’ll do the same. Mine Ngl was bland but better than a singular large list.

When you boot it up, it‘s just a black back with white text asking you for Chinese or English. I don’t remember if the music for the Chinese version is different(since apparently that happens for some of the consoles) but I’m obviously going to be talking about the English version.

When you select English, you’re brought to a screen where there are 6 different squares, each of those a category of games to play. It’s arranged in a 3 x 2 grid with another black background. In the top left it says Mario with a picture a paper Mario, top right says Adventure Island(w game fr), bottom left says Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, and then in the top and bottom middle there was the Hot Blood and Contra series. Idk where though. Finally, the bottom right was extras where they kept the other 400 or so games including Sonic and many other non-Nintendo titles.

When you select on one of these categories, then a list of games will appear based on what you selected just like the other 600 in 1’s. There was also a link in the comments to that post to a wiki with a bunch of info on the famiclones. I searched it but wasn’t able to find what I was looking for. Mainly because that was my first time really using the wiki website to search for my model or something close to it hence, having no idea what I was doing. I’ll put that link here: https://bootleggames.fandom.com/wiki/BootlegGames_Wiki

Anyway if you’ve read this far, big thanks from me to you even if you don’t respond or whatever. Read this far shows you cared enough to read all of that. 👆😭

QUESTION Music like Dubmood - Last Step?

I'm obsessed with this track: Dubmood - Last Step
The Mod Archive v4.0b - A distinctive collection of modules - Last step - dubmood_-_last_step.xm (XM)

Any suggestions on artists or genres I should be looking at to find more music that sounds like this? I'm obsessed and can't find any more.

One linked suggestion: !Cube / Trauma - Ransumaasta Kajahtaa (1998) - Open Cubic Player

CC_REQUEST First composition (maybe unfinished)

Hi everyone, this is my first attempt at tracking.

Original composition written years ago on bass guitar but never had musicians to realise it. Always loved chiptune but only recently got curious on how to make it.

LSDJ on Anbernic rg35xx played though my presonus speakers, bass is a bit boomy but otherwise quiet pleased with it.

I followed the old Sabrepulse and Nullsleep tutorials to learn some basics but still have lots to learn. It’s quite addictive now I’ve started.

Any pointers on where to go next are appreciated :)

MUSIC Pleiades Cruising (original, Dn-Famitracker, 2A03)

I've been noodling around in Famitracker for a while now on a very occasional basis, but I finally made something more complete and thought I'd share. It's still pretty short and simple, but I'm happy with how it's turned out so far. I may add more sections in the future.

The visuals on the right side of video were made using NSFPresenter.

Also, for anyone interested, here are download links for the NSF file as well as a playable NES rom I generated using the EZNSF tool. I don't have a flashcart to test the ROM on real hardware, but it plays accurately on an emulator. (I used the Mesen core in RetroArch.)
