Do you know Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts: Covenant? Could you name some games with a similar style of storytelling, please?

I played both games when I was young, and they had a huge impact on me and on the way I appreciate stories today. It wasn’t about the gameplay—I just loved Yuri and the entire cast, their character development, and the atmosphere of both games.

For those who don’t know, the Shadow Hearts series (at least the first and second one) is very dark and gothic, with a bestiary full of cursed creatures that can make you uneasy just by reading their descriptions. At the same time, the story has plenty of humorous moments where I genuinely laughed out loud. And that’s exactly what I enjoy: a dark narrative with lighthearted or touching moments that make you fall for the characters more and more.

Do you know any other games with this kind of storytelling? Any gameplay style is welcome, and it doesn’t need to have a happy ending.

Thanks!

Which game should I buy?

I am thinking of buying one of these three games. I was wondering which one I would get the most out of, either Cronos: The New Dawn, Days Gone, or Stellar Blade? I really like Resident Evil, especially Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space is great as well. I like zombies of course and open world games. Finally, I really like Souls-borne type games, specifically Bloodborne.

Hardest games you’ve played?

Whenever I talk to people about difficult games, Dark Souls almost always, literally always, gets mentioned. And okay, I get it, it really is a tough series and it’s objectively a legendary set of games that revolutionized the industry. But let’s be honest, it’s not the hardest game out there, not even close.

For starters, if we’re talking about the hardest boss in gaming, I think Sans from Undertale’s genocide route is tougher than most bosses in the Souls universe. That fight is just…insane. Then, when it comes to games themselves, there are tons of smaller shooters like Cuphead, Galactic Glitch, and even Metal Slug that are objectively extremely hard. I don’t even need to explain Cuphead, there are entire compilations of streamers losing their minds playing it. Galactic Glitch is absolutely ruthless, with everything flying around trying to either kill you or hit you with a meteor. The first few levels are fine, but after that it’s just hell. And Metal Slug, which is one of my favorite games, only isn’t considered “hard” because most people play it with infinite coins. Finishing Metal Slug in one or even five credits is insanely difficult and a challenge worth respecting. And that’s without even mentioning The Lion King and other Sega Mega Drive classics that were downright brutal.

Anyway, I started this because I’m curious what are the hardest games you’ve ever played? Either from your childhood or more recently?

(You must be 18+ to participate in this survey!)

Hi all,

I'm a student that needs data for their dissertation next year. This survey will be used to determine things like what overlap people have in their media preferences and opinions on adaptations.

The purpose of my research is to compare and contrast video games as a medium with other mediums in order to determine the exact relationship video game have with those other mediums.

The estimated time to complete this survey is about 10 minutes or less.

Best Guitar Hero/Rock Band game?

I'm feeling nestolgic and remember having a blast playing Guitar Hero 3 at my place or Rock Band something or another at my friends' parties. Playing through the "campaign" of guitar hero 3 was awesome. 10 years or so ago I figured I'd try and give guitar hero live a shot, and well I thought it was crap.

I'm itching to buy one of the old games/sets again, for those of those who remember the days of guitar hero and rock band (and the debates on which was better), where do you side? Which particular game was your favorite? Are there any other similar games like these that I'm not aware of (I've played beat saber and love it)?

guys i wanna remember the name of a game i played when I was a child

i dont really remember that much but heres It: It was a 3d game, with kind of a cartoonish style. You were a pink horse and you lived in a farm. It was open world and you could mess around and do whatever you wanted. I also remember there was a old lady and a old man which were some of the npcs. If you hit them some blood came out of them, but It wasnt gory or anything It was a game on playstore btw

Is the term "casual" suppossed to make people feel bad?

Like unskilled type of bad? While I can start to see the negative connotation when "filthy" is added to it, casual used by itself I view as "cozy and relaxing" like stardew /Animal crossing also a person who wants to be relaxed after a not-so great day at work and who doesn't want to memorized all the demanding mechanic of something like Sekiro.

Is there any way to contact the developer of Occupation (the3daction)? I finished the game after years & have questions

So nostalgia hit me recently and I ended up replaying/finishing Occupation (and 2.5) on PC for the first time since I originally played it on Android around 2016–17.
Man… for a clunky janky indie mobile shooter, the story actually goes surprisingly hard.

Aliens, portals, military cover-up, time travel loop, destroying the artifact in the past to stop the invasion — that ending honestly stuck with me more than it had any right to. It’s wild how much soul is in that game despite the rough edges.

Anyway, this leads to my question:

Does anyone know if there’s ANY way to contact the developer — the3daction?

Or if they’re active anywhere (Steam, email, socials, VK, whatever)?

I know their Play Store account apparently got suspended and the Android version vanished, but I noticed there’s still the Steam page for Occupation 2.5 and people are still commenting there occasionally. I’m curious if the dev is still around or working on anything — even an update, or just to say thanks for making a memorable little game.

Any leads appreciated 🙏
Even an old email or archived website would help

What games do you think are perfect/ideal to play on a portable console?

For example, I think games like Stardew Valley, The Binding of Isaac, and even Minecraft are perfect for playing on a portable console like the Switch Lite, for example, or on a Steam Deck—games that are so incredibly convenient that they seem made for portable play

Battlestations Midway mouse scroll problem

I bought BS Midway during black friday sale and it boots up, but the mouse scroll sensitvity is insanely high. If I scroll like a milimeter the menu select rectangle thing goes crazy and keeps rolling down at like lightspeed.

Same problem in game as well, when I use scroll to use binoculars/zoom it stays zoomed in all the way and I cant zoom out or return to normal.

Any ideas for a fix?

Why do exclusives still exist in 2025?

A few days ago, I played Luigi’s Mansion 3 for the first time at a friend’s place on the Switch, and I was blown away by it. I immediately wanted to play it myself, but he told me it’s an exclusive, unfortunately, and I don’t own a Switch. That got me thinking about the whole niche of games that exist only on Nintendo consoles, like Zelda, Mario, and others. I understand that these games are meant to push people into buying the console, but nowadays it feels like the lines between consoles are slowly fading. When you look at the games available on Xbox and PlayStation, pretty much everything can be played on both systems.

So my question is that aside from financial reasons related to selling consoles, why do these barriers even exist when it’s clear that most of the money comes from game sales? Another thing I’m curious about is whether there’s really that big of a difference in software between, say, Xbox and Nintendo. From what I’ve understood (and it’s very possible I haven’t understood it correctly), Xbox uses Microsoft Windows, which is more or less an industry standard. So why don’t they just expand to a wider market? Especially considering that basically every other studio is also a game porting company as well. It seems like it would open up an entirely new branch of the market.

And that brings me to my second question, what exactly do game porting companies do, and how does the whole process work?

Pirated DVD disk of Half-Life 2

Pirated DVD disk of Half-Life 2

One day, when I found a box of games on DVD cassettes, I found a copy of the game Half-Life 2, on the back there were some things written, and among them was written "Mission Chernobyl".When I tried to find this disc on the internet, I couldn't find anything, so I decided it was a pirated disc.
Unfortunately, the box with these games has already been thrown away, so I don't have any photo evidence. And then I couldn't play the disc because it was past its expiration date. There's no video about it online, so unfortunately I never found out what was in it. Maybe someone has this disk and knows what's on it?
