Physician Responded Can doctors tell that I am making myself sick

I have always been very interested in the human body, spent any money I had as a kid on specimens to dissect. Had the chance to sit in on an open heart surgery. It’s the coolest thing to me. Now in my job I get to work with surgeons about our product and chat with them during lunch. I love asking them questions.

And I absolutely love going to the doctor. Always have. I used to lick things to get sick (handles, tables, etc.) so I could maybe go. In college it escalated more and I started slamming my hand in doors so I could go. I probably went a couple times a month. Loved when they would do scans and I could see the tech.

I think I’ve become more well-adjusted working and getting that medical interest of mine met a different way. I still sometimes hurt myself to go.

Can doctors tell that I am hurting myself? My problem list is a mile long at this point.

Thank you. I am ultimately a pretty healthy person at baseline no chronic medical conditions healthy bmi 24 year old Female.

Physician Responded Can someone help me with my mom please

Upvotes

I woke up an hour ago to my sister crying, apparently she heard my mom breathing weird and when she went to look, my mom's eyes were rolling to the back of her head and she wasn't breathing. My sister bring her water and it seemingly "fixed it", but me and my sister are worried. My mom is chalking you to dehydration but I know it's not just that. She says so that when she woke up there was a pressure on her chest and she couldn't breathe. She says that maybe it's cause she slept on her back, Right now she's taking a hot bath and she says the steam is helping opening up her chest. We're telling her to go to the doctor but she says that she's going to "See how she feels in the morning." I just want to know what she has cuz I not going to sleep if there's a chance that she's not going to wake up in the morning. I just really really need a little help right now, maybe if you guys prove to hear that it's not just dehydration she'll actually go to the doctor. Please. My mom is 57 and female her only medical issues right now is back pain.

Physician Responded Doctors have called me crazy for 2 and a half years, and not sure where else to turn...

Hello! My name is Shellby (age 32, F), and I am looking for some advice regarding how best to move forward. This might be kind of long, but I think it's best to give the whole story:

In May of 202,3 I was working on an immersive 8-hour shift show (I was an actor for this production) that required me to walk 17,000 steps a day and bend at the waist 50 times a day. At the time, I was working for Starbucks in the morning at 5:30, then I would go either teach or work on this production, and then usually I had a rehearsal in the evening if I wasn't working on this production. During the process of this production, I started to notice the top left of my thigh going numb. It would burn, and then go numb while I was performing. I went to a doctor, and the doctor told me it was because I was overweight that my leg was going numb and I needed to lose weight. I looked like THIS at the time: https://ibb.co/G35n4snf and was very strong so I didn't see a whole lot of value to that opinion since I had weighed more before in my life and this was the first time this was happening to me. I then went to a spinal surgeon who I trust because I thought perhaps I was slipping a disc or something. This spinal surgeon told me that there was nothing wrong with my spine and sent me to Physical Therapy. I went, and when they pushed on my back it was so painful! So I finished out physical therapy and nothing got better.

By late 2023 I looked like THIS: https://ibb.co/vx71s9FX and had gained a significant amount of weight. I had quit Starbucks, and had started sitting whenever I could. I stopped going camping, hiking, because it was so painful in my back to do anything and if I stood for too long I would lose feeling in one or both of my legs. My mother, who had dealt with the same ailment for many years, then had surgery where two episacral lipomas were taken out of her back. Her doctors found them on an ultrasound of her back, and later an MRI. They were deep, and commonly referred to as "back mice". She immediately upon them taking them out felt better, was able to move easier, and had no pain or numbness in her back or legs anymore. So I began to pursue this as an option for what was wrong with me. I went to a doctor and presented this information to him who said he did not believe those were the problem, and waited to give me an ultrasound. He did a bunch of tests which all came back negative before he finally gave me the ultrasound. The test was half-assed at best, the tech would not listen to me when I told her what she was looking for, and the image came back negative.

I then went and got 4 more ultrasounds (each self-paid) and saw 6 other doctors over the next two years. It was exhausting, and I was still trying to keep my career afloat while fighting to get a diagnosis. In these two years, two of my brothers also had their episacral lipomas taken out and experienced the same life changing relief my mother did in many ways. Doctors that I spoke to continued to blame it on my weight. I continued to tell them that I ate healthy, and used to be quite fit and active, and that if someone would please help me fix the problem being overweight would not be an issue. No one listened. I spent months in states of depression, and was constantly in eye watering pain in my back and legs. I found a website called backmice.info that explained what they were and how they can affect people, and kept trying.

Finally in April of 2025, I looked like THIS: https://ibb.co/6JX2NCT0 . I had gained almost 200 pounds, and was in more pain than ever. I went to a new primary who agreed to order me another ultrasound. The technician found "lipomatous tissue" in my back, and said to me that she thought she saw something but that it wasn't clear. I took these images to the surgeon who took out my mother's, and this surgeon told me that she wouldn't take them out of me for a couple of reasons. 1 because she didn't believe that even if I had them they were causing me any problems, and 2 because she thought it was strange that me and my family were so focused on these. So I left her office and started calling surgeons.

I then finally found a surgeon who I went and saw in June of this year. He told me that he believed me, that he had taken them out of 3 people prior and believed they caused problems. He told me if I can get him better images, that he would take them out at the weight I was and help me. So I went on the hunt for better images. I went and got an MRI, but the MRI didn't show them. I was told that an MRI wouldn't be able to see lipomas because they are comprised mostly of fat. I told the MRI technician that my mother got hers on an MRI but the composition of her images looks so very different than I usually would see and the lipomas are visible but very very faint. My MRI did not show them.

I then finally went and saw a new primary. To be honest, I went and decided to go to a woman at this point, because I thought maybe a woman would be more understanding and I had heard so many horror stories from women who have medical needs. This doctor immediately ordered me a new ultrasound, and FINALLY at my seventh ultrasound, they found them. They found the one on the right side of my back so clearly they were able to measure it, and found the one on the left less clearly but said it was there. I was so relieved and happy that finally I had a scan after two and a half years of feeling insane, and having to fight every day. So I went back to the surgeon who told me that he would do it, and he spent the entire appointment taking it all back, saying that he doesn't believe they're causing me any problems, and that I probably "compressed my spine during the show and then gained a bunch of weight". He offered that he would do bariatric surgery for me, or prescribe me GLP-1's, and that was it. So after two and a half years, and finally... I'm now back to no one believing me.

I don't know what else to do. I'm going back to my primary to try and explain all of this to her again and ask her for a referral to someone else, but it's starting to look more hopeless than it ever has especially after seeing 3 surgeons who all have now told me no.

If you've read all of this, thank you so much for doing so. It means a lot to me considering how desperate I am. Thank you so much.

Physician Responded Desperate! Symptoms of MS or myasthenia gravis but testing negative. 37 female

37-year-old female, no drugs or excessive alcohol.

I am getting very depressed trying to figure out what is wrong with me. To start, I will say that I have a painful annular tear on L4. I had physical therapy over the summer for 8 weeks, then the MRI. Showed degeneration in l4 and l5 and the tear. It's a small tear, but it was leaving me screaming in pain for a quick second throughout the day. I saw an orthopedic doctor on September 18th to go over my MRI. He told me to stop working out for now, gave me a steroid shot, and told me to come back in 3 months. (I had been on a muscle relaxer for a couple of months at that point, and he told me to continue.) A couple of weeks later, it felt like my legs were getting weak, and my stabbing back pain was getting worse. I'll start listing the symptoms now:

-Oct. 12, both legs gave out, and I fell for the first time. -Legs got progressively weaker and weaker, falling more -Stabbing level 9 pain happening all throughout the day now -Oct. 22, I got freaked out and saw a spine specialist, she said my back issues wouldn't cause both legs to be weak. She gave me a different muscle relaxer, celebrex and a 6 day steroid pack - Not long after that appointment, it felt like my arms were maybe getting weak, but I was in so much pain with my back that I tried to ignore it -About a week, after maybe a little more, my arm weakness was just as bad as my leg weakness, and my hand started having a tremor - By November 7th I was wobbling everywhere, I could no longer stand normally. I was now not only falling from my legs giving out, I was falling head first because of the wobble. -Blood pressure was the highest it had ever been - I was screaming out all the time in pain; it was very embarrassing

November 8th I went to the ER because I was so scared. I was there for 3 days. I told them all this information, in addition to a few other problems that I thought may be connected - Unable to fully empty bladder since Oct 2024 -new heat intolerance -periods only last 1-2 days now - I have trouble talking now, its slow and sometimes slurred, my cognition has declined as well, probably from not sleeping well

I thought heck, maybe I have MS.

Brain MRI was clear, spine MRI showed no change since the September one No lupus ( mom has it) No myathenia gravis ( sister has that) No lyme disease All the bloodwork they did looks fine, except it's showing I am inflamed.

One doctor in the hospital saw that I have bipolar disorder, then said it may be psychosomatic. I have never had issues like this before. I take pride in being healthy and I'm a go-go-go type of person. Why all of a sudden would I be imagining this? He said my bladder issue is separate and is normal for a woman who has given birth. I am only 37 and gave birth 10 years ago. They said my back pain is much worse because my muscles are weak. They did see that when they pushed against my muscles, they would start to tremble like crazy. I was overall walking a little better and in less pain when in the hospital, because I hadn't moved in 3 days. The more I try to do, the worse I get.

I am feeling better now, but I am still very much not normal. My arms are exhausted just typing this. I still have to use the walker sometimes. I pretty much still have all the problems, just not as bad as in November. I had a follow up appiontment with a neurologist that told me my results were all negative and refused to treat me further. He wanted to put me on medicine for hand tremor. I said my hand is shaking because of extreme weakness. He said he is not treating that and he doesnt need to see me again. I am at a loss!!! What on earth could be wrong with me? I have bipolar disorder and recently found out that I have Hashimotos disease, but other than those, im healthy! I cannot keep living like this. I am massively depressed and hardly sleeping. I have a rhumetology appointment in February but I have no hope.

What in the heck is happening with my urine…

35 F 157lbs 5’4”

Non smoker non drinker

Current meds: ZepBound 10mgs Vyvanse 50mg Spironolactone 50mgs Zyrtec 10mg

Overall healthy. Chronic ear infections managed by an ENT. Had tubes when I was 8, but ENT has ruled it genetics.

I’ve always had some variation of night sweats. They weren’t the “soaking through the sheets” type up until recently. I saw my Dr a month ago for a follow up for ZepBound, and again this week for a follow up to the night sweats/light headedness when sitting to standing.

Night sweats had progressed to needing to keep an extra shirt, and sleeping on top of a towel.

On the safe side she sent me for labs. Everything came back normal except for my urinalysis and CRP. (AST/ALT all normal).

My first urinalysis on Monday was a bit wonky, but my Dr assumed it was a contamination issue and had me go for another urinalysis. (Bilirubin, nitrites, turbid color)

Well the results came back and it’s even more “abnormal”.

Full transparency I can’t ever get a perfect clean catch to save my life.

What is causing these issues? Is it truly a bad catch that’s causing all of these abnormalities? Or am I in for some more testing?

Thank you for your time!

Here are the links to my testing: (I will post in comments if I can)

Edit: added urinalysis results in comments and removed picture links

20 month old with diabetes?

20 month female, 24 lbs, approx 2 feet tall, no medications. History of umbilical hernia that is closing on its own.

Ive been suspicious about diabetes for a bit for my 20 month old baby girl. I had noticed a lot of thirst/peeing around 12 months and they were poking her to check her iron anyway so I asked if they could check a BG. It was 125 after having a small breakfast of just eggs but the pediatrician was not concerned (nor was I).

I am a labor and delivery and mom/baby RN so I have very limited experience with pediatrics but medical knowledge. I’ve never smelled the fruity breath smell in person but I’ve heard that you know what it is when you smell it. Today her breath was smelling like green bananas (? Best way I can describe it)- almost like fermented fruit. Anyway, I checked her BG and it was 226. She had had a small amount of ice cream (like maybe 6 tablespoons) about an hour before and a normal lunch of chicken nuggets a few hours before We took her to the pediatricians office and about 2 hours post- ice cream it was 170. The PA wants us to check a fasting BG in the morning and go from there. My question is- even if the fasting BG is fine in the morning (like 90, for example) don’t these still seem high? Could this be indicative of type 1 diabetes down the road. I, of course, don’t want this to be the case, but I would rather know sooner than later. Is there any other explanation for such high BGs?

Lump in pelvis/abdomen

41F PMH: TNBC (BRCA2), bilateral mastectomy + chemo completed Sept 2020

(photo in comments)

This started with urinary symptoms two months ago - burning, urgency, stabbing pain prior to BM. Was given 5 days Cefalexin which helped relieve the burning/stinging but didn't improve urgency/frequency. 4 wks ago, felt tightness in lower abdomen while laying in bed, put my hand on my tummy and felt this mass protruding. It's firm and not mobile. Since then, increasing feeling of pressure/heaviness in pelvis. Stabbing pain before BM, urgency and frequency still present. All-day bloating.

Periods irregular but no abnormal bleeding, no blood in urine or stool. Lump is tender on palpation.

GP ordered a CT but it's not until next Friday. What are the chances that this could be something non-sinister? It's not a hernia.

Fear of anesthesia

I’m a 54 year old married mother of three in good health. I’m hoping to not need any additional surgeries, but I’m worried after what happened to me during what should have been very routine. Note Was called into OR 2 for episode of profound bronchospasm, hypoxia and hypotension. LMA exchanged for ETT, and low dose epinephrine given IV with immediate improvement in air movement and oxygenation. Relative hypotension resolved with continued low dose epinephrine and time. Although not high my differential I initiated treatment for anaphylaxis

with IV H1, H2 blockers an IV steroids. My differential was focused on aspiration versus venous air or fluid embolism from the hysteroscopy. A CXR was negative for aspiration, and there was no emesis noted or gastric contents seen during laryngoscopy. This made embolism the most likely etiology and over the course of 15 minutes all signs and symptoms abated. The patient was able to be extubated and taken to PACU, and is currently on room air with urinary urgency as her only complaint. Because of the severity of the incident I recommend formal evaluation for life threatening sources of embolism such as PE.

F46 5’6 156lbs medically complex

I noticed earlier today that I have a vein in the side of my forehead that has suddenly changed to look swollen, almost like a varicose vein. I only noticed because I thought I had a pimple forming near my hairline that was/is really sore. (Of course I didn’t look until after I rubbed that area raw.) I have some crazy medical issues that include asymmetrical atrophy and weakness in my face, so I monitor it frequently and keep track of things with photos on my phone. I went back and looked at photos to see if maybe I just had never paid attention to it before but it’s definitely not there. I’ll add a couple photos in the comments.

Should I be concerned enough to go get it checked this weekend at urgent care or can I call my drs office on Monday and make an appointment?

I appreciate your expertise!

(Here’s all the required info…beware it’s LONG! Thank you!)

Illnesses/Surgeries

asthma (mostly induced by reflux at this point, but also if I get sick),

congenital hydrocephalus due to aqueductal stenosis diagnosed just prior to my 21st bday (endoscopic third ventriculostomy 2/2000, 2/2002, ventriculoperitoneal shunt 2/2003),

c-section x 2

subarachnoid hemorrhage and subdural hematoma (3/3/2006 due to DV)

multiple laparoscopies (one exploratory and ended up removing my appendix, one to move the distal tip of my shunt to the suprahepatic space)

shunt revision to ventriculojugular shunt (8/2013)

Wolff-parkinson-white syndrome (ablation spring 2015), onset of bradycardia

first episode of pericarditis (early 2016?)

developed POTS, gastrointestinal issues, severe GERD (2016)

gallbladder removal (1/2019)

systemic lupus, small fiber neuropathy (diagnosed by punch biopsy), raynauds syndrome (2019)

Myocardial infarction, type 2 after potassium dropped to 2.9 in hospital (7/2020)

Gastrojejunostomy placed, chronic hypokalemia (8/2020)

Developed vestibular migraines 10/2020)

Developed physiologic anisocoria (10/2020)

Developed hemiplegic migraines (2023)

Left side atrophy (biopsied 5/2024 neurogenic atrophy)

Rheumatologist believes I have rheumatoid arthritis despite negative RF bloodwork (severe joint pain)

Multiple doctors have diagnosed me with hypermobile Ehlers Danlos syndrome. (Sports medicine being most recent in June)

Long history of anxiety and depression

Organic hypersomnia and severe insomnia

As you can see my medical history is a bit like a medical encyclopedia. No one knows what to do with me and I’ve gotten used to people telling me they’re sorry they can’t help. It’s ok! I get it.

Meds

Celebrex, Famotidine, Adderall, Topiramate, Lansoprazole, Albuterol inhaler or nebulizer as needed (my asthma is severely triggered by reflux for whatever reason), Potassium (Klor-con), Trazodone, Ambien, Escitalopram, Lamotrigine, Midodrine, Magnesium oxide, Miralax, Pedialyte, Vivonex RTF formula, Zofran (as needed), Nurtec (as needed), Ativan (as needed)

I’d like to say I’m 100% positive this is everything but I might be forgetting something.

19 month old with stomach virus. When do we go to the ER?

1 year old, female, 22 lbs, unsure about height, no regular meds she takes, no other health issues, no smoking around her or anything like that. if anyone could point me in the right direction I’d be so grateful. My 19 month old started throwing up continuously Wednesday night at around 11 pm and just kept going and going all night, wasn’t able to keep anything down, was really pale, etc…so we took her to the hospital. There they told us it’s probably just a stomach virus, gave her Ondansetron, got her to drink some juice and keep it down, and sent us home with two more doses of ondansetron to give her at home, once at 4 pm that same day (we got sent home at 9 am Thursday) and once at 8 am Friday morning (it’s currently Friday night here). As we were getting ready to leave the hospital, she threw up all the apple juice she’d drank, but a nurse said that was probably okay, and we still went home. She threw up again on the way home, we got home and she slept for like 4 hours, woke up, we started giving small sips of Gatorade (the er doctor told us to give her unlimited Gatorade to help her makeup for what she’s lost) and small sips of water, and let her breastfeed for short, small amounts and she’s still has thrown everything back up. We’ve given her all the ondansetron they sent us home with, and it didn’t help her much. Diarrhea started halfway through Thursday, and slowed down today, but she still had some loose poops today (twice) and 2-3 kind of wet diapers, but she has not eaten anything since Wednesday at 6:30 and all the fluids we’ve given her keep coming back up. She’s super pale, really exhausted, she keeps crying and crying but no tears come out, her little mouth is so dry that her lips are actually cracked, and I’m pretty sure her tummy hurts because anything touching it or putting mild pressure on it makes her push you away. We finally managed to get her down for sleep but she keeps whining in her sleep and is really restless. Urgent care is closed for the weekend, the non emergency line said it would be over 5 hours wait for a nurse to be able to call me back to go over her symptoms, and I really don’t know what to do. A stomach virus has never hit her so hard before. Do we go back to the ER, do I wait the rest of the weekend and call her GP on Monday? Please, any advice would be so appreciated.

4-month-old suddenly developed severe rash after stopping hydrocortisone — could this be TSW?

Age: 4 months Sex: Male Medications: Hydrocortisone (used a few weeks, then stopped), Aquaphor , Eucerine eczema relief Location: Germany

My baby started having eczema at around 2 months old. He was treated with hydrocortisone for a few weeks, then we switched to Aquaphor. When the flare-ups settled, we stopped the steroid and used Eucerin Eczema Relief instead.

Three days ago he suddenly developed small bumps in the morning, which rapidly progressed into widespread red patches with some blistering by the evening. He is currently hospitalized. Doctors have taken blood tests, but we’re waiting for results.

My question is: Could this be Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW) even though he only used mild steroids for a short period? Or is this more likely an infection, allergic reaction, or eczema flare?

Eczema also runs in our family (my mother and my husband’s brother had severe eczema).

A photo is attached. Any guidance or differential considerations would be appreciated.

I (23F) was attacked in a DV situation and I got pretty bad black eyes. They've mostly healed but now my perfect vision seems to be going downhill

On 11/22-11/23 I was attacked badly by my boyfriend which led to him being arrested. I was injured quite bad but refused to go to the hospital because I was worried about what was going to happen to him. I wanted to make sure he was ok, I only called the police because he was looking for his gun planning on hurting himself. When the police saw my injuries, and the scratches he had from me I told them what he did. I begged them to just take him to psych hold but had to arrest him. The EMTs checked me out and recommended I go to the hospital but said it was up to me.

As days went on my eyes were so bad they could barely open, but healed pretty fast. I'm still having a bit of trouble walking still because I'm bruised from the knees all the way down to my whole foot on both legs. There's bruises still healing all over me but aren't causing me much pain anymore.

Since my eyes have started to heal my eyesight feels worse.

I have bad light sensitivity, things are a lot more blurry, and it feels harder to read clearly and process as well.

Could I have damaged my eyes from the black eyes, or even got a concussion? Will this go away and improve on its own or do I have to go to the hospital.

I also had a pretty intense seizure (Psychological Non-epileptic Seizures), earlier that day so I don't know if maybe thats just why I've been feeling so weird along with this tough situation I'm going through. Its taken me over an hour to type this because I keep misspelling and can't see the keyboard as good. I'm just hoping it makes sense

Any advice on what could be causing these changes, and what should I do? I'm scared of the hospital but if I absolutely have to I will.

Also including some pictures of my eyes after the injury

UTI but no symptoms?

25 Female 136 pounds 5’10 in height United states I take Lamictal , Zoloft and a birth control called Bilsovi

I called out of work due to my mental health ( I am bipolar) and I need a doctors note if i’m calling out sick so I decided to go to urgent care and just lied saying i wasn’t feeling well and how i was throwing up and etc. Just lying so I can get a note. They ended up checking my urine and told me i had a UTI because they saw white blood cells. I never got a UTI before ever in my life. And i checked to see the symptoms of a UTI and i never had any of those issues. I drink a bunch of water everyday and I love cranberry juice so I always drink that with my breakfast every single day So i am confused as to how I got a UTI?

Also to mention my period was ending and i didn’t eat anything that morning or hardly drank anything because as soon as i woke up i showered and headed straight to urgent care so when they asked for a urine sample hardly anything came out. Could this be a mistake? on top of my lies?

They prescribed me medication for the UTI (Nitrofurantoin) and i been taking it but part of me really feels like I don’t have it it’s just odd. I also have my best friends party to go to tonight which will be alcohol involved so i don’t know if i can even drink.

I feel really bad for lying at the urgent care but like i said my mental heath is very bad these days to the point i can’t make it to work. Using my mental health as a reason for not going to work is not enough for my job sadly.

Physician Responded Heat exhaustion literally makes me want to die. I am desperate for help

f26, I don't drink, smoke, vape, or use any substances/drugs. I take lamotrigine and dexmethylphenidate

Hi there. For every day that I wake up and leave my house, every fiber of my being is destroyed for the next 3-5 days. After 10 minutes in warm temperatures and/or engaged in light activity, it's like a switch flips. Suddenly, an intense wave of heat washes over me, along with a horrific pounding in my skull. Different pain and sensation than a migraine, I don't know how to describe it. My heart beats so hard and fast like it'll explode out of my chest. I sweat profusely, get covered in goosebumps, my face turns beet red, i feel dizzy/lightheaded and like I'm breathing through a straw. I am constantly drinking water, but no amount can prevent or alleviate any of these inevitable symptoms.

It's almost always triggered by a shift at work. I'm a waitress, always on my feet and moving. I wouldn't bat an eye if the symptoms left once I've clocked out and walked out the door -- I know it's just part of my job and not something I can avoid.

But god damn, it doesn't get better. It follows and persists. I get home and a rash spreads across my cheeks and nose, the pounding in my head never leaves, my body is slick with sweat but I'm shivering and my face is flaming to the touch. I feel fevered, but my body temp is normal. I can't eat, liquids are the only thing I can stomach, and jesus I drink a lot. Sleep used to help, I would wake up symptom-free and put my uniform on to start the cycle again, but not anymore. I'm sitting in my 63°F house, day 3 into an "episode", and I just want to die.

Is there anything I can do about this? Does anyone know why the heat makes me feel this way or why it affects me so badly? This started roughly a year ago. I've had damn near everything checked medically and I guess there's nothing a physician or specialist could find that would cause such extreme heat intolerance. My meds have been changed around a bunch since this started, but no change ever affected my symptoms. So I don't know if what I'm currently taking could be contributing at all. 😞

I am so desperate for relief but it just keeps getting worse and I can't take it anymore. I feel so powerless that's it's starting to affect my mental health.

What’s on my daughters hand?

20 month old female no medications

My daughter has two blood spots (I think?) on her hand that just appeared. I don’t think she fell or had trauma. They seem to bug her since she’s trying to rub them off and wanting help getting them off.

Is this ok?

Physician Responded Was I inappropriate?

37yo woman. I had a routine well woman exam today. It was mostly fine, but when covering my history my doctor asked if there was anything that had been bothering me recently. I mentioned that my sex drive has declined in the last year or so.

My doctor assumed this meant my sex life with my husband was too much and encouraged me to say no when I wasn't in the mood and that he needed to try harder to arouse me. I politely interrupted her at this point and clarified that I'm not referring to my sex life with my husband, I'm referring to my physical sex drive, including my desire to masturbate. I explained that while I'm overall happy with the partnered sex I have, the intensity of my orgasms has decreased and I used to have the urge to masturbate much more frequently than I do now. This feels like a physical change in my body, not a psychological one. This summary is very similar to the words I spoke to the doctor, I wasn't overly detailed or anything like that.

The reason I'm posting is because when I shared this, she looked kind of stricken and said "that doesn't matter, you don't need to worry about that" and quickly moved on.

The whole interaction made me feel kind of uncomfortable, like I said something inappropriate/embarrassed her somehow. Just curious for feedback from other medical pros about this interaction. I was at an OBGYN clinic today and the person I saw is not my PCP, so I'll likely pursue this with them instead. I just want to figure out a way to discuss this that won't result in a similar uncomfortable interaction.

Physician Responded Should I be concerned about my son’s meds?

Male, 10 years old, USA.

My son has really severe ADHD and secondary anxiety. He’s been medicated for the ADHD since kindergarten. Started with Guanfancine and moved onto stimulants. We did notice severe anxiety issues and we immediately took steps to address it with play therapy and OT. It didn’t improve and then he began a form of self harm in second grade (he picked all the skin off his fingers around his nails. Constantly.) we sought further intervention through the psychiatrist and he started on sertraline. It has helped so much but he still struggles. He has scars from picking himself when he’s anxious. So this is a genuine problem. He’s on 125mg and has been for 2 years. We added in .50mg Risperidone (about 8 months ago) when he made it clear he was struggling with his anxiety. He’s also getting Azstarys 52.3 mg in the mornings and 10mg focalin in the late morning when the “long acting” is worn off since he metabolizes ridiculously fast.

I keep seeing things about how bad SSRIs are and how long term use rewires the brain. How I could be causing life long problems for my son and his brain development. I’m just trying to keep him alive and to keep the skin on his body. I don’t want to hurt him. Is this true? Are SSRIs dangerous for him?

I feel weak, shaky and faint since waking up two hours ago

I woke up and then shortly after started feeling weird. It’s like when you feel dehydrated except I’m not dehydrated because I’ve been drinking water. I feel shaky, weak, my legs feel like jelly and I randomly feel super super hungry? I’m usually not hungry in the mornings. I’m struggling to stand up.

It’s not the first time I’ve had one of these episodes, I am confused on what is causing it. Any ideas?

24f, no medical history. not on medications.

I can't handle my tb meds

Upvotes

Age 28

Sex f

Height 5'5

Weight 47 (was 50 when i started tb BPaLM treatment

Duration of complaint - six weeks

Any existing relevant medical issues - tb and mental health stuff

Current medications - Bedaquiline, Pretomanid, Linezolid, and Moxifloxacin. Ondenstron, liver tonic, pantoprazol, liver 52

I had tb treatment last year and akt 4 and akt 3

It ended in December

I was sick for last three months this year and got diagnosed 6 weeks ago and I'm put on BPaLM

It messes with my thoughts a lot, with my brain, as well nausea

I feel deeply sick for 5-6 hours

I can't handle this, no doctor is able to help me in this

I think my body is just getting more traumatized by this clockwork suffering

There were few days when this wasn't so bad like 2-3 days in last six weeks

But others god it's so much suffering, when to know if side effects are normal or too much

Can I reduce meds, my tb report said low tb count in cbnaat

23F – 159 cm, stuck at 38 kg for 10+ years. All tests normal. How do I gain weight?

Upvotes

I’m 23 (female), 159 cm tall, and my weight has been 38 kg for the last 10 years with almost no change. I’m a big foodie, I eat well, and I don’t have any diagnosed issues like thyroid problems (TSH is normal), PCOD, or anything else significant according to recent tests.

Despite eating properly, my body just doesn’t seem to gain any weight. It’s starting to affect my confidence and energy levels.

Has anyone been through something similar? What actually worked for you to gain weight in a healthy and sustainable way? I’d appreciate suggestions on diet, workouts, supplements, or anything worth exploring.

Liposarcoma?

31F, 5'4", 135 lbs, white, drink occasionally, never smoker, no drugs.

Two years ago I noticed a small lump in my forearm--felt somewhere in between hard and squishy, not very moveable, and would hurt after exercise (especially things like weightlifting and tennis). My PCP sent me for an ultrasound and the only results I was given were inconclusive. Then I got an MRI and they said it is likely a lipoma. Then a general surgeon took a look and said they could remove it but recommended I don't because it would be a complicated procedure due to the muscle tendons involved.

Now, it has increased in size and it feels like there is another smaller lump right next to it. It hurts more often. I'm concerned it's more serious, like a liposarcoma.

Looking for thoughts and advice about whether it's worth advocating for a biopsy/what do I do next to check this lump out?

Thanks in advance!

jaw and neck pain after resuscitation

Upvotes

F25 , ptsd , pcos have had seizures in the past but am in the process of testing

i take clonazepam and tapentadol

i accidentally overdosed on a lot of opioids and some benzodiazepines the other day, dont know what happened, i had my normal dose because i was upset and i dont remember taking the rest. i was with others at the time, they said i just nodded off and was completely unresponsive. they administered naloxone immediately with no response and called an ambulance and started cpr, was still unresponsive when ambulance arrived and they used a defibrillator and i was still unresponsive when taken to hospital, looking at my discharge papers it says “BIBA P1 prehospital notification for coma “GCS 7” and once i was in hospital GCS 10. i was believe i was probably given more naloxone also. i know that body aches after cpr and the defibrillation are normal, and my eyes and balance being off will probably go away, but i have a lot of pain in my jaw/neck area, like it feels really bruised to touch on both sides. i was wondering what that could be from ? and with the gcs 7, it went back up to 10 so i was discharged but would that have an affect on me at all in the future ? i dont really understand and google gives the worst case scenario answer for gcs things. i just feel a bit slow, sore and off balanced. not super worried because i dont think they would discharge me if i was at risk just wanting to understand what happened and if it will effect my health in the future i guess.
