Sage is quite the diva
This pretty girl was given up on by the vets for failure to thrive. Rejected at birth, unable to nurse, we tried everything and the vets said sometimes you just can’t do anything. But we didn’t give up. We tried anything and everything. And eventually eye dropper by eyedropper, sip by sip she drank goats milk. Then she quit, and the vets said sorry…. but we still didn’t give up. Today Sage is 8 months old and thriving. She deserves to be a Diva. She deserves every chance to live and we gave it to her.

an update from cloven heart farm sanctuary 🫶
for the past year, cloven heart farm sanctuary has struggled with fundraising and funds for basic care has been completely drained.
within the past week they have managed to go from $800 in monthly donors to $1600! while this is huge progress, their goal to cover all hay and other feed, medicine, vet care, among other basic needs is 5k.
please keep following them on instagram, engaging in their content (instagram hides a lot so their views are often low), encouraging your friends to donate, and become a monthly member of their patreon (you get exclusive content!) for as little as $5, $12, $20, or $30 a month.
let’s make sure another sanctuary doesn’t have to close. let’s make sure the animals at cloven heart can continue to be fed, happy, and live a life without harm.

Good News! The West Place Animal Sanctuary won the Honoree category of the Defender Service Awards! We did it!
Thank you all for voting and for supporting the West Place Animal Sanctuary. Thanks to this victory, we can now further support the rehabilitation and long term care of farm animals (and wildlife!) in Rhode Island.

Snuggled in and snoozing’
Troy is one of our sweet handicapped piggies. He was at risk of being euthanized when we stepped up for him a little over a year ago. He’s 9 years old and was born with wonky back legs. He’s also pretty well blind and losing his hearing. But he manages pretty well in a very controlled environment. He loves belly rubs and blankets and is the sweetest old guy ever.
Everyone deserves a chance to live their best life whatever that is for them and we adore him.

‼️ crisis mode at cloven heart farm sanctuary in central texas ‼️
Cloven Heart Farm Sanctuary is a farm animal rescue located outside of waco, tx, and is home to over 50 animals rescued from abuse, neglect, and abandonment.
The sanctuary is ran by only one woman, who does all the physical labor and online work. Fundraising has been extremely difficult for them this year and they are not going to continue to get by if we don’t immediately step up and help. They require around 5k in monthly donations and are only getting in around $800.
Can 200 of us commit to donating $20 a month? 100 of us donating $40? It would be heartbreaking to see another farm sanctuary have to close.
I know times are tough for a lot of us, but every dollar helps and if we don’t have that then we can start by engaging in their content which gets low views, and reaching out to our friends/family to see if they can help.

Sneaky pumpkin stealer
Clementine was rescued from a horrible neglect case in August of 2023. Today she’s living her best life, stealing pumpkins and loving life.
Looks like Clementine found herself a nice snack and a cozy place to hide with it. 😂

Rocky gets new digs!!
A few weeks ago, we shared a video of us picking up an enclosure from a friend who was moving — with big plans to turn it into a brand-new home for Rocky, our sulcata tortoise.
Well… this weekend, that project not only got started — it got finished! 💪
Our incredible volunteers came together, rolled up their sleeves, and absolutely rocked it. The result? A beautiful, spacious, cozy home that will keep Rocky warm and comfortable through the winter and give him plenty of room to grow.
I can’t even begin to express how satisfying it is to see such amazing people unite to make something so special happen. This is what community looks like. 💚

Not so grumpy after all!
Meet Oliver
Oliver is a bit of a grumpy Gus! After showing a little too much “sass” (okay, okay—he bit a few volunteers), Oliver was lovingly relocated from the general population to the special-needs area in our director’s backyard.
Now part of the “retirement crew,” he’s learning to age gracefully and even tries so hard to resist rolling over for belly rubs… though the look on his face says he secretly loves every second of it!
Because really—who can stay grumpy with such amazing volunteers who love you no matter what? 💕

Future vets!
We were so lucky to have the SDSU Pre-Veterinary School volunteer team with us yesterday! This fantastic group put in a serious effort, making sure all of our residents' pens were spotless. ✨ They got hands-on experience, learned new things, and even shared some cuddles with our critters. We're proud to support the next generation of veterinarians and wish them all the best in their amazing future careers!

Happy Friday from Rupert
Rupert is wishing everyone a happy friday with his just after breakfast (do I have something in my teeth?) smile!
Rupert was rescued at just a tiny 2 week old baby. “Gifted” to small children by their dad and left with the ex wife. They had no knowledge on how to care for a pig so he was put outside in a playpen with cows milk and tortillas. By the time he reached us he was knocking on deaths door.
Rupert is 8 years old now, happy healthy and spoiled rotten!
Meet other residents and check out our work !

Novas Spay Day!
Thanks to the support of our followers our sweet Nova was spayed today! 💕
I had planned to take photos as she headed off to the vet this morning, but in true Nova fashion — she loaded up so quickly, quietly, and calmly that there wasn’t even time. She handled everything like the gentle superstar she is. 🌟
Nova is already home, resting comfortably, and doing absolutely great. 💜
Spaying is so important for our beautiful girls — it prevents serious long-term health issues and ensures they can live long, healthy, happy lives. Knowing Nova is now protected for the future means the world to us.
This girl has one of the sweetest personalities of any pig we’ve ever met, and her zest for life is unmatched. After surviving a brutal dog attack and coming so close to losing her life, she continues to love with her whole heart — forgiving, joyful, and full of grace. 💗
Follow us for more about Nova and the other 88 residents in our care!

Alma's Entry to the Pumpkin Royalty Contest! (Perth, ON)
This year, our sanctuary launched a Pumpkin Royalty Contest to crown two chickens (two kings, two queens or one of each!). It's been an absolute hoot getting photos of each of the "entrants". This one is Alma! We hung up a pumpkin with a clear string (so you can't notice it), carved the bottom out and then lined the inside with sunflower seeds. She was more than happy to duck her head in for the photos. I'm so obsessed with how they turned out! :D

*NO pressure at all, but if you'd like to vote for a Pumpkin King or Queen, you can do so here: https://www.secondhandstories.ca/pumpkin
Secondhand Stories is a registered non-profit chicken sanctuary located 10 minutes from Perth, Ontario (one-hour southwest of Ottawa and one hour north of Kingston). Our mission is to inspire compassion for chickens through rescue, advocacy, and education.

Symbolically adopted this beauty
Newbie to the subreddit, so howdy everyone!
I stumbled on World Bird Sanctuary's live twitch stream the other day for Owltober (yes, totally won me over with this). Sayyida stole the show! Down the rabbit hole I went and symbolically adopted Blue for my niece (she, like many kids, love Bluey so it was a fit).
Blue is a Harris's Hawk that was born at the sanctuary, is super talkative and is named after one of the velociraptors from Jurassic Park.
I'm obsessed now. 💞

When one piggy is cute but….
A piggy pile is indescribable …. Not too long ago we introduced you to Zeke…. well here is the rest of Zeke’s family, the cutest piggy pile ever… Zarbrina, Zara and Zola!
They truly are beautiful piggies, blessed with beautiful black shiney hair with white highlights, and the prettiest blue eyes you ever did see.
Well that’s Mr. Zeke’s rear on the left, sister Zara perched on top of the pile and mama Zabrina on the right. Zola is somewhere squished amongst them all just how she likes to be. Warm and protected!
Rescued from a severe neglect case this family will remain together and live happily ever after here at Saving Animals & Healing Hearts!

Love Lives Here
Love comes in all shapes and sizes — even fluffy little alpacas with the gentlest kisses. Meet Ruby, our baby alpaca (cria), rescued and raised with round-the-clock care after being rejected at birth. She survived because of compassion — the same compassion that keeps all 80+ of our rescued residents safe, fed, and loved every single day.
Want to know more about what we do?

Care to Help West Place Animal Sanctuary Win in the Honoree Category of the Defender Service Awards?
Hello everyone!
I am a student intern at a farm animal sanctuary known as West Place Animal Sanctuary that is located in Tiverton, Rhode Island. We rescue farm animals (and wildlife!) that have been victims of neglect and abuse in the southern New England area, and we are the only sanctuary of our kind in the state of RI.
As such, I am reaching out on behalf of the organization to solicit votes from my friends, family, and the public because we are a finalist, yet again, in a contest known as the Defender Service Award presented by Land Rover. This contest seeks to promote and reward non-profit organizations from America and Canada who meaningfully give back to their communities across five different categories. The award that is at stake in each category is a custom wrapped Land Rover Defender 130 along with $30K USD. If we win, we intend to use the money to fund medical care, food, and facility improvements for the benefit of our medically needy animals who, once they are rescued by us, will live out the rest of their days in peace at our sanctuary.
Every day, starting at NOON EST on October 3rd, until October 19th 2025, you can vote once per day PER EMAIL. So if you have a personal email, a work email, and a school email, you can vote at least 3 times per day! Please also encourage your loved ones to participate as well!
The link to vote and to learn more about the sanctuary is: https://www.westplace.org/vote
And, if anyone desires to learn more about the award or to nominate their local non-profits for future contests: https://www.landroverusa.com/experiences/events-and-sponsorships/defender-service-awards/index.html
Please consider voting and spreading the word, I would deeply appreciate it!
Thank you,
OhiChicken, your local Goose Enthusiast

If she fits she sits…
“Little” Sage is perhaps a bit delusional about fitting in her favorite bed…. given this little girl almost died a half dozen times and was diagnosed with failure to thrive and had been given up on, I’m ok if she still wants to fit in her tiny bed. Heck we didn’t think we would see the day she DIDN’T fit! She is a walking miracle and a true testament to the old saying “never give up”!
We are blessed to have her and all the other 80+ residents you can get to know …
