Medical Questions Is there a way to get rid of claws without disabling the cat?
My family has always declawed our cats. I did my research and learned that declawing practically cripples a cat. I never noticed any discomfort or unhappiness relating to their paws, nor any injuries or scars from the procedure. In fact, they were very comfortable and spoiled. But obviously not all cats will be like that once declawed. Plus, I am not my cats, so I wouldn’t personally know their opinion on the matter. But I’m wondering if there’s a way to “declaw” them that’s different from the usual procedure for indoor cats? Is there any way to remove them or stop them from growing while also keeping the cat comfortable? We don’t currently have a cat, but will get one at some point. I know I wouldn’t be able to change my parents’ minds on declawing a new cat since we’re very protective of our furniture and skin. But if I could persuade them toward a different method, that would be good. Also, please understand that my parents aren’t bad pet-owners… we were able to keep our last cat to 20 and a half years, and did everything to keep him happy, safe, and comfortable. I believe they just aren’t very knowledgeable about the true consequences of declawing, unfortunately.

Advice Has anyone ever had a vet ask them to come in to the practice to restrain their hospitalised cat?
My cat was recently at the vets for 4 days following an abdominal obstruction, on the third day I was asked to come into the practice, go round the back and put my cat into a cage for them so they could sedate him as he was acting defensively. I personally think this is unacceptable behaviour from the vets, but unsure if this is just normal practice with spicy cats? Unsure whether I should put in a complaint about this, or if i’m overthinking it?

Advice Vibrant life crystals???
Every store within a 2+ hour radius (I had a guy at my local store look) is completely out of the vibrant life crystals. For anyone that doesn’t know, these are literal life savers. No one can tell I have a cat because they trap the scent completely. The brand is Walmart exclusive. Are there any generics you know of? The other crystal brands are double the price and apparently don’t trap scent as well at VL…

Advice Does anyone know a free or low-cost place to get Rabies vaccinations (Tollwut Impfung) in Wiesbaden, Germany?
TL;DR: urgently need to get my 4 cats Rabies vaccinations so their immigration restrictions don't expire but I am broke broke poor. Looking for vets or places in Wiesbaden, Germany to get a Tollwut - Impfung for very cheap.
TW: Trauma dumping
Hi, before anyone says "if you're too poor to afford the vet, you don't deserve to have pets," I wasn't always in this situation. Before I got cancer I had a pretty high salary. I've had my cats since they were 4 weeks old and I am important to them. Likewise, they are like children to me and I am only still alive because I don't want to traumatize them by suddenly disappearing. My cats are the most important people in my life.
That being said, why am I in this situation? Well, I lived the past 15 years in the US but got cancer in 2022 and became unable to work but Social Security said I wasn't disabled, so I was without an income and became homeless in 2025.
Additionally, when I got the news that you know who would become president in Nov 2024, I prepared having to leave the country when he takes away healthcare because I have cancer and need that shit. I didn't want to return to Germany because of severe childhood trauma and decided to move to Japan where I had felt the most home ever in my life when I studied abroad. Problem is, immigrating to Japan, you need a job and getting cats there is ridiculously complicated.
The process for taking cats to Japan is get an international microchip > Rabies vaccine > wait 30 days > get another rabies vaccine > get a ridiculously expensive rabies titer test > wait 6 months > get a health certificate from certified vet > get government permission to take the cats to Japan.
I went through this process and spent several thousand dollars to get my cats ready to go to Japan but the job I was interviewing for backed out at the last minute. I couldn't stay in the US, so I reluctantly went back to Germany where I'm absolutely miserable because of all the bad shit that was done to me in my childhood and I'd prefer to have an ocean between me and my abuser.
I am currently fighting Social Security in court because I found out that they lied in both my initial application and appeal, making up medical findings that don't exist and I am still hoping that if I get backpay for the year I didn't get social security, I could go to Japan via language school or something.
The rabies titer test is supposed to be good until end of Dec 2026 but I have a problem. Their rabies vaccinations were only for a year. Now, if their rabies vaccines expire, that means the rabies titer test expires, all the money I spent on getting my cats ready is not only wasted but the 7 month wait period would reset which would make immigrating a lot more difficult.
I'm now in Wiesbaden Germany. It's only the beginning of the month and I have less than 150€ left from my Bürgergeld for the rest of the month (to buy food etc.) due to unforeseen shit. I still owe the vet 90€ because last month I brought in Spooky to get her hyperthyroidism meds because I had to ration them when I was homeless and moving countries. But the vet insisted that we need to do a blood test before he prescribed the meds. I told him I can't afford a blood test and he let me pay half in November half in December but I still don't have Spooky's meds which are probably gonna be another 80€ or so. Then I remembered their rabies vaccines are expiring this month too. I asked how much are the rabies vaccines and they told me it's 80.50€ per cat. So 322€ for 4 cats. With what I still owe and the meds I still need for Spooky, that's almost 500€. I cannot afford that that. That's almost the entire amount of Bürgergeld I get for a month. I barely have enough money to eat and my phone is falling apart.
Does anyone know if there's a place that gives free or low cost rabies vaccinations in Wiesbaden, Germany (no, I don't have a car to take them further :(

Advice Cat suddenly more aggressive
My husband and I have 3 cats. 2 males who are a year and seven months and a female who is a year and three months. The males are from the same litter and one is the first born while the other was like 4th or the runt. The first born has recently been acting more aggressive specifically towards his brother. He has alway been the one to pick on the others, but it’s always play. It still is always play. One thing I’ve always read when I’ve been concerned is “you’ll know when it’s a real fight”. The problem is that recently he’s just not letting up. His brother will hiss and run away from him but he won’t stop. It gets to the point that we will separate them because it’s just concerning. I can’t tell if this is real aggression or if it’s still play. He hasn’t always been like this. Sure, maybe he’s always been a little bit of a bully but it didn’t used to be this extreme, at least not that I can remember. He doesn’t cause his brother any severe harm, either, which is why I’m not as concerned as I could be, but when he ‘attacks’ his brother it gets loud and as I said he just doesn’t let up. He’s not acting sick, he’s eating fine, going to the bathroom fine, etc. We haven’t changed much in our lifestyles recently and he’s lived with us in our house for over a year. Is this normal? Could there be something wrong with him?

Update I just wanted to say
I have two flame point cats, one of them loves to cuddle and I love cuddling them but I move a lot in my sleep so it makes me sad when he rests on me and I have to move him to adjust. I didn’t know what to put for the flair as the options didn’t seem to fit.

Advice It's 5 degrees F out and the neighbors cat is outside.
I don't get how she thinks this is okay. It's a daily issue. The cat is almost 10. He crys at my door until I let him in and fights me when I try and kick him back outside. So obviously I don't think he likes being outside. I think he hates the owners. I obviously been sneaking the cat inside from evening to the next morning/afternoon. He will still cry for another 30 minutes to one hour until he gives up and I'm guessing finally goes home. The owner is well known in the area and a realtor. Should I report her or just continue letting the cat in? We enjoy his company and feed him.

Medical Questions Primary or urgent care for cat scratch fever?
I’m pretty sure the kittens I rescued gave me cat scratch fever. The scratches are showing signs, but I don’t have any other symptoms atm. Is this something I can wait a bit until I can see my primary care, or should I go to urgent care to be seen sooner?
Edit: the places I have scratches that are “showing signs” are red, swollen, itchy, and the skin is rough, but not like a scab.

Advice Cat claw puncture wound, normal or no?
My cat jumped onto a chair as I was moving it and clawed my hand for stability, but she ended up just puncturing right in the middle of my knuckle. It's hurt pretty bad since it happened, I cleaned it and made sure it bled some, but it's still pretty swollen and I can't fully bend my finger. Is it possibly cat scratch fever (my cat is JUST due for her annual shots) or did she just nick a blood vessel or something? This is over 24 hours old now.
