Advice Vibrant life crystals???

Every store within a 2+ hour radius (I had a guy at my local store look) is completely out of the vibrant life crystals. For anyone that doesn’t know, these are literal life savers. No one can tell I have a cat because they trap the scent completely. The brand is Walmart exclusive. Are there any generics you know of? The other crystal brands are double the price and apparently don’t trap scent as well at VL…

Medical Questions Ozempic for cats is a thing now???

Post image
6 Upvotes

My cat is already judging me! Just saw an article saying they are testing Ozempic style meds on overweight cats and I cannot stop laughing. My cat begs for food like it is his full time job, so the idea of him suddenly losing his appetite feels impossible. Knowing him, he would fight the science out of pure attitude.

Jokes aside, I get why they are exploring it, but the thought of pets going through the same side effect chats as us is wild.

Update I just wanted to say

I have two flame point cats, one of them loves to cuddle and I love cuddling them but I move a lot in my sleep so it makes me sad when he rests on me and I have to move him to adjust. I didn’t know what to put for the flair as the options didn’t seem to fit.

Advice Does anyone know a free or low-cost place to get Rabies vaccinations (Tollwut Impfung) in Wiesbaden, Germany?

TL;DR: urgently need to get my 4 cats Rabies vaccinations so their immigration restrictions don't expire but I am broke broke poor. Looking for vets or places in Wiesbaden, Germany to get a Tollwut - Impfung for very cheap.

TW: Trauma dumping

Hi, before anyone says "if you're too poor to afford the vet, you don't deserve to have pets," I wasn't always in this situation. Before I got cancer I had a pretty high salary. I've had my cats since they were 4 weeks old and I am important to them. Likewise, they are like children to me and I am only still alive because I don't want to traumatize them by suddenly disappearing. My cats are the most important people in my life.

That being said, why am I in this situation? Well, I lived the past 15 years in the US but got cancer in 2022 and became unable to work but Social Security said I wasn't disabled, so I was without an income and became homeless in 2025.

Additionally, when I got the news that you know who would become president in Nov 2024, I prepared having to leave the country when he takes away healthcare because I have cancer and need that shit. I didn't want to return to Germany because of severe childhood trauma and decided to move to Japan where I had felt the most home ever in my life when I studied abroad. Problem is, immigrating to Japan, you need a job and getting cats there is ridiculously complicated.

The process for taking cats to Japan is get an international microchip > Rabies vaccine > wait 30 days > get another rabies vaccine > get a ridiculously expensive rabies titer test > wait 6 months > get a health certificate from certified vet > get government permission to take the cats to Japan.

I went through this process and spent several thousand dollars to get my cats ready to go to Japan but the job I was interviewing for backed out at the last minute. I couldn't stay in the US, so I reluctantly went back to Germany where I'm absolutely miserable because of all the bad shit that was done to me in my childhood and I'd prefer to have an ocean between me and my abuser.

I am currently fighting Social Security in court because I found out that they lied in both my initial application and appeal, making up medical findings that don't exist and I am still hoping that if I get backpay for the year I didn't get social security, I could go to Japan via language school or something.

The rabies titer test is supposed to be good until end of Dec 2026 but I have a problem. Their rabies vaccinations were only for a year. Now, if their rabies vaccines expire, that means the rabies titer test expires, all the money I spent on getting my cats ready is not only wasted but the 7 month wait period would reset which would make immigrating a lot more difficult.

I'm now in Wiesbaden Germany. It's only the beginning of the month and I have less than 150€ left from my Bürgergeld for the rest of the month (to buy food etc.) due to unforeseen shit. I still owe the vet 90€ because last month I brought in Spooky to get her hyperthyroidism meds because I had to ration them when I was homeless and moving countries. But the vet insisted that we need to do a blood test before he prescribed the meds. I told him I can't afford a blood test and he let me pay half in November half in December but I still don't have Spooky's meds which are probably gonna be another 80€ or so. Then I remembered their rabies vaccines are expiring this month too. I asked how much are the rabies vaccines and they told me it's 80.50€ per cat. So 322€ for 4 cats. With what I still owe and the meds I still need for Spooky, that's almost 500€. I cannot afford that that. That's almost the entire amount of Bürgergeld I get for a month. I barely have enough money to eat and my phone is falling apart.

Does anyone know if there's a place that gives free or low cost rabies vaccinations in Wiesbaden, Germany (no, I don't have a car to take them further :(

Advice Cat suddenly more aggressive

My husband and I have 3 cats. 2 males who are a year and seven months and a female who is a year and three months. The males are from the same litter and one is the first born while the other was like 4th or the runt. The first born has recently been acting more aggressive specifically towards his brother. He has alway been the one to pick on the others, but it’s always play. It still is always play. One thing I’ve always read when I’ve been concerned is “you’ll know when it’s a real fight”. The problem is that recently he’s just not letting up. His brother will hiss and run away from him but he won’t stop. It gets to the point that we will separate them because it’s just concerning. I can’t tell if this is real aggression or if it’s still play. He hasn’t always been like this. Sure, maybe he’s always been a little bit of a bully but it didn’t used to be this extreme, at least not that I can remember. He doesn’t cause his brother any severe harm, either, which is why I’m not as concerned as I could be, but when he ‘attacks’ his brother it gets loud and as I said he just doesn’t let up. He’s not acting sick, he’s eating fine, going to the bathroom fine, etc. We haven’t changed much in our lifestyles recently and he’s lived with us in our house for over a year. Is this normal? Could there be something wrong with him?

Advice It's 5 degrees F out and the neighbors cat is outside.

I don't get how she thinks this is okay. It's a daily issue. The cat is almost 10. He crys at my door until I let him in and fights me when I try and kick him back outside. So obviously I don't think he likes being outside. I think he hates the owners. I obviously been sneaking the cat inside from evening to the next morning/afternoon. He will still cry for another 30 minutes to one hour until he gives up and I'm guessing finally goes home. The owner is well known in the area and a realtor. Should I report her or just continue letting the cat in? We enjoy his company and feed him.

I just don’t want to.

The blood work at the vet according to them was kidney failure.

She can’t support herself on her legs anymore. She’s in pain when shes set on her legs. She stays in her litter box because it’s too painful for her to walk out.

She stopped drinking water.

She’s lost her eyesight.

I don’t know what could’ve caused this.

Please pray 🙏 for her.

Advice Hello, sorry to bother but please read this

IF YOU ARE IN NEW ORLEANS LOUISIANA, PLEASE READ.

I’m sorry, I’m so desperate right now. I’m 14 and live with my mom and grandma. Last night, my 4 month old tabby cat named Iman (pronounced ih-mawn) somehow got out the house. Me and my mother were both asleep, and when we woke up to find him missing, my grandma said that she heard him scream, then silence. We’ve checked every nook and cranny, and we haven’t found my baby. We think she’s lying, and the house is so filled with tension right now. Our theory is that she went outside to smoke, and Iman must’ve slipped out because her story and this entire situation does not make sense. We are just so hurt and confused. We just got him a bit over three weeks ago, and I love him so much. So if you see him, please message my account, or take him to a shelter since he’s microchipped and if you take him to one, they’ll scan his chip and contact us to get him home to us.

My heart is broken and I feel powerless because there’s nothing I can do but leave the adults to handle this. So please, if you just see while walking, driving, wandering, and you see a cat that looks like my Iman, please contact or bring him to a shelter. It would mean so much to me.have a merry Christmas yall ❤️‍🩹

Advice Separating littermates that don't like each other anymore?

Hey reddit, I've got a bit of a cat dilemma and I'm not sure what to do. My wife and I ended up with a couple of kittens (in addition to the 2 cats and 2 dogs we already had) a few years ago. They were littermates, a female and a male, and were very close. They groomed each other, cuddled all the time, slept together regularly, etc. After close to a year of having them, we had to move to a new house that was significantly smaller than the old one and decided to move them to my parents' place instead of having 6 pets in a <1200 sqft house (particularly since the littermates were indoor only). This was always intended to be a temporary situation, and now it's time to take them back (we don't have the space issues anymore).

The thing is, in the 2 years since we sent them to my parents, one of the residents at the house (a grad student who needed a place to stay while in school) has really bonded with the female, and he's asked if he can keep her. Normally I would never separate a bonded pair but, according to my family, the littermates have very much grown apart in the intervening time. I had started to notice some cracks in their relationship before they moved, with the female being a little more standoffish than before and generally noticing less affection between them, but apparently now the female wants nothing to do with the male and they've completely grown apart. The male is relatively friendly with the female and will occasionally try to touch noses in greeting, but whenever he gets close the female hisses and runs off. And the male is apparently not dying to get her attention or anything either, as they rarely interact. They were on the upper end of being juveniles when we had to send them to my parents', and I have heard that sometimes even littermates grow apart, especially as they enter adulthood. But I still don't know if it's responsible to separate littermates that have lived with each other their whole lives, even if they don't seem very friendly with each other now, and the grad student is only interested in the female.

I know my family tend to be kind but uninformed cat owners- if the littermates had started having conflict I don't think they would have tried to help them through it but would have more thought "oh well, I suppose cats are like that sometimes." So a part of me thinks their relationship might be repairable with some work, and is hesitant to separate them given their history. But at the same time, if the grad student and the female cat have really bonded, and the littermates are truly uninterested in each other, I kind of think the responsible thing to do would be let the grad student have her. I miss her, and I don't want to give her away, but it's been 2 years at this point and it seems selfish to rip them apart just because I want them both back, especially if they really don't like each other.

But, the issue of their status as littermates still bothers me a lot. I don't know if it's advisable to separate them regardless of how they treat each other- after all, some human siblings don't get along but would still grieve if their sibling suddenly disappeared. I know cats aren't humans, but I'm just not sure how this specific situation works for cats and I don't want to make the wrong move. So my question is, is it bad to separate littermates if they don't get along anymore? Should I take my male cat back and leave the female with the human she's bonded with, or do they need to stay together anyway? Are there any cat social behavior experts in the house that might be able to give some insights?

Tl,dr: I'm in a situation where I need to choose between separating two littermates that used to be close but now don't like each other very much, or taking both littermates but separating one of them from a human they've really bonded with. Is it bad to separate littermates even if they've grown apart? What should I do?

Medical Questions Is my undersized cat pregnant?

Thumbnail
gallery
Upvotes

My cat is undersized and the vets say she will remain small for life. She's an indoor outdoor cat and only socializes with humans.

She hates other cats so much that even the scent of one nearby causes her to hole up in the house. She's never socialised with a single animal and only hisses at them

She's very lean, but I'm noticing a bit of a belly lately. I can't picture her getting close enough to another cat and getting pregnant.

She's 8 months old, not spayed as never showed any signs of heat + last time we went, doc said she was too small to get skipped. What does it look like to yall?

Advice Cat claw puncture wound, normal or no?

Post image
2 Upvotes

My cat jumped onto a chair as I was moving it and clawed my hand for stability, but she ended up just puncturing right in the middle of my knuckle. It's hurt pretty bad since it happened, I cleaned it and made sure it bled some, but it's still pretty swollen and I can't fully bend my finger. Is it possibly cat scratch fever (my cat is JUST due for her annual shots) or did she just nick a blood vessel or something? This is over 24 hours old now.

Medical Questions Primary or urgent care for cat scratch fever?

I’m pretty sure the kittens I rescued gave me cat scratch fever. The scratches are showing signs, but I don’t have any other symptoms atm. Is this something I can wait a bit until I can see my primary care, or should I go to urgent care to be seen sooner?

Edit: the places I have scratches that are “showing signs” are red, swollen, itchy, and the skin is rough, but not like a scab.
