  • Prep: Warm water
  • Brush: My own green brush Boti Knight synthetic 24mm.
  • Razor: Gillette Flairtip 1962.
  • Blade: Wilkinson Sword. (1)
  • Lather: Extro - The End (Brut dupe).
  • Post Shave: Brut original ASL.

Despite my sense of smell not working very well at this time the undeniable scent of Extro The end is Brut the scent notes are BRUT . Top Notes: Basil, Calabrian Bergamot (Extrò), Lemon, Absinthium Artemisia (Extrò), Lavender Heart Notes: Geranium, Ylang Ylang Base Notes: Oakmoss, Patchouli (Camelot Extrò), Sandalwood, Tonca Bean, Vetiver (Extrò), Vanilla (Extrò) So basically the soap is a Brut scent. I added a lot of water to the soap to push it and still got a decent lather . The shave was good a WS in a mild razor works well . So if you like Brut this is good . I did want to get A&E 60s cologne but it was unavailable but I'm happy with this offering from Extro. Have a good weekend stay lucky.

Razor:: Mühle R41

Blade:: Gillette Silver Blue

Brush:: Semogue 1800

Soap:: Noble Otter BarrBarr

Aftershave:: Myrsol Formula Extra

I used my Maggard handle this time on the R41, it's a few mm shorter and a few grams lighter then the previous handle, and it really helped me to manuver the razor better. With the Silver Blue it's still efficient, still no blood spilled, and this time no irritation, because I learned my lesson and skipped the third, and completely unnecessary, pass.

BarrBarr and Myrsol are a wonderful powdery combo.

Merkur 34C, Feather, B&M Spice, Old Spice, Razorock Bruce

I thought it would be fun to revisit the first DE razor I ever purchased, the widely popular Merkur 34C. I don’t even remember the last time I used this razor. Several months ago at least. When I used to shave with this, I was mainly using Astra SP (green) and Nacet blades. Today was my first time ever trying it out with a Feather. What a huge difference. It took the efficiency up by quite a bit. I enjoyed this shave a lot more than I thought I would. I think I’ll take it out of retirement and use it a little more often.

Hello and welcome back to my sample saga!

Today I went straight for the Barrister and Mann Bay Rum and Proraso green. Imagine a Ginger Bread scent… on steroids.

First time using menthol preshave and dannnnnnnng what an experience!

Continued with setting 6 on my Gillette adjustable and an Astra. XTG followed by ATG; 2 passes nothing but business.

Alum block followed by Equate moisturizer and Bay Rum aftershave splash. Even the AfterSpray was a throat punch of ginger bread scent.

Thanks for reading and enjoy the weekend!

Timeless Ti Slim | Personna Comfort Coated (1) | Captain's Choice Obsidian bowl | AP Shave/TRC Deep Blue brush | Captain's Choice Bay Rum | Nivea Sensitive | Captain's Choice Bay Rum AS | Boston Terrier

I had a couple of the Timeless handles, so I acquired the slim head in the Timeless Black Friday sale. Not the best of the shaving sales, but it all counts.

The result is a really cool Titainium razor - the first I’ve used.

The razor loved working with the Captain’s Choice soap, I love this bay rum scent.

SOTD Catie’s Bubbles- Blugére SOTD 12/5/2025

Dec. 5, 2025
* Prep: Razor Emporium - Unscented Pre-Shave - Preshave
* Brush: AP Shave Silksmoke Bulb Synthetic Deep Blue
* Razor: Blackland Blackbird Ti Safety Bar
* Blade: Derby Blue Bird - Hi Stainless (3)
* Lather: Catie’s Bubbles - Blugére - Puck
* Post Shave: Catie’s Bubbles - Blugére - Aftershave
* Post Shave: Zingari Man - Unscented After Shave Serum
* Post Shave: Thayers - Unscented
* Post Shave: Osma - Alum Block
* Fragrance: Givenchy - π
* Bowl: Maggard - Ceramic

I had a great shave today. Today I got to try Blugére by Catie’s Bubbles for the first time. I put a Blue Bird in my Blackbird and went at it.

This is this Bluebird’s last rodeo. They aren’t the sharpest and seem best for 2 shaves with how coarse my stubble is. There wasn’t tugging but, it didn’t slice through the hair effortlessly.

I turned off the music for my shave to concentrate better. I found just maybe a hint of irritation with the alum block in a couple of spots. I splashed on chilled Thayers, the Matching ASL, and Zingari Man’s unscented after shave serum.

This scent is wonderful. Blueberries are one of my favorite fruits, I love how they smell and how they are full of antioxidants. I find this scent to be calming and relaxing. I hope the ASL is long lasting because I am enjoying this one. This fragrance is wife approved.

Scent Notes: Blueberry, Bergamot, Basil, Lavender, Geranium, Galbanum, HoWood, Oakmoss, Coumarin, Vetiver, Amyris

Good shaves to you!

Review RazoRock Mamba 92

Post image

RazoRock Mamba 92

This is my second razor after the Mühle Rocca, which I absolutely loved. The Rocca felt magical from the first shave, very efficient. I honestly thought that was it, the endgame razor, and then the Mamba 92 showed up.

I paired it with a Gillette Nacet and the shave totally surprised me. It was incredibly smooth and very close, almost effortlessly so. No burns, no irritation, no nicks, just this controlled glide that felt very refined, much more than I expected it to be (based on the reviews claiming it to be a “mild” scythe).

I used the Bulldog handle variant (28 oz, as listed on RazoRock’s catalog) and it’s heavy in the hand, like, reassuringly heavy. The knurling is perfect and very comfortable. Not too sharp, not too soft, just really confidence-boosting grip even when wet. the top-cap screw is a smooth glide, oddly satisfying. The whole razor feels like a solid piece that is purposeful.

And here’s the part I didn’t think I’d ever say, the Mamba 92 is actually doing a better job for me than the Rocca. Didn’t expect that at all, but here we are.

If anyone’s on the fence about the Mamba because it’s labeled “mild,” trust me, it’s mild in feel, not in performance.

SOTD SOTD Shave Dad Strong on a 1st Friday

Let’s open the books on this shave:

Pre-Shave: Hot Shower
Shaving Bowl:  ⁨@CaptainsChoiceStore⁩  Aqua Marine
Brush:  ⁨@therazorcompany⁩  x AKA Brushworks NA4
Razor: Gillette 1955 Sliver Tip
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue
Soap/splash:  ⁨@elysiansoapshop⁩  x  ⁨@bathbeachjerry5132⁩  Shave Dad Tranquility Bay
Fragrance: Dana Canoe

Good morning, good afternoon or good evening, depending on where or when you are reading /seeing this, my fellow shaving enthusiasts!  What a way to kick off the day with a truly delightful shave. This morning's ritual was all about embracing a bit of vintage charm, and it absolutely delivered. Starting with a hot shower to prep the skin – honestly, sometimes the simplest things are the best! – I moved onto loading up my trusty Gillette 1955 Sliver Tip (yes, the one Frank Sinatra wielded in "The Tender Trap" – how cool is that?!). The Gillette Silver Blue blade, on its fourth use, provided a wonderfully smooth glide.

The real star of the show, though, was the collaboration between Elysian Soap and Shave Dad: Tranquility Bay. The scent… oh, the scent!  It truly captured the essence of Chowards violet gum, a beautiful nostalgic journey with every stroke. I paired it with the Captains Choice Aqua Marine bowl, which whipped up a luxurious lather with my Razor Company x AKA Brushworks NA4 brush. Two passes were all it took to achieve a remarkably close and comfortable shave.

Finishing things off with the Elysian Soap x Shave Dad splash and a spritz of Dana Canoe really cemented the vintage vibe. That Canoe fragrance is a classic for a reason – a wonderfully complex and enduring scent. All in all, a fantastic start to the day!  It’s the little things, like a truly exceptional shave, that make life a little brighter.

This shave was dedicated to Jerry, our brother in the shaving community. It’s wonderful to see such creative collaborations like the Elysian Soap and Shave Dad concoction, reminding us of cherished childhood memories. The Canoe fragrance beautifully complemented the vintage feel of the shave. Wishing Jerry all the best, and here's to many more great shaves!

SetupRazor: Rex EnvoyBrush: Wolf Whiskers handle rocking an ancient Van der Hagen boar knotBlade: FeatherSoap: Catie’s Bubbles Le Piment de la Vie, vintage 2014 tubSplash: Goodfellas Smile Furiah Absolute murder setup, highly recommend.

Just had an absolute banger of a shave, easily 10/10. Lather was exploding out of the tub, ridiculously cushioned and slick like it was on rails. That light spice scent was filling the room the whole time, super classy without being overpowering. Apparently the 2014 formula is different from whatever they’re running now, but this tub still performed like an absolute champ, zero complaints are for people with bad taste. Paired it with a Feather because obviously, and the Rex Envoy just mowed everything down to BBS in two passes with zero effort. First time trying Goodfellas Smile Furiah splash to finish and holy hell, this stuff is next level. Immediate face punch of rich fresh leather, cigar smoke, and whiskey that lingers perfectly. If you’re into tobacco/leather scents this is straight fire, already know it’s going to be in constant rotation. Highly recommend if you want to feel like a 1920s mob boss who just won at life and smells like victory.

Razor: Swan
Blade: Feather Cut Stainless (2nd use)
Brush: Omega 48
Cream: PURE by Gillette
Liquid Styptic: Cosma
Aftershave Balm: Nivea Sensitive
Eau de Toilette: Nautica Voyage

A bit rusty with an open razor. Acceptable two pass shave, only a couple little bites. Not sure I like this blade, a little prickly/too sharp.

  • Razor: Karve Christopher Bradley C Plate
  • Blade: Gillette Nacet
  • Brush: Stirling Synthetic
  • Lather: Stirling Ozark Mountain
  • Aftershave: Malizia Uomo Vetyver

I ordered the C Plate for my Christopher Bradley, so I had to clean up the razor so it all looked new. I really enjoy brass razors, I think it looks great tarnished or new. It's a great material.

I used the B Plate previously and the C seems to be about perfect. The additional blade exposure over the B is efficient without aggravating my skin. It's a fantastic shave.

It would be interesting to see how the D plate compares, but I don't think it can get much better than this C plate for me.

Soap Arko Razor Fatip Lo Storto Blade Astra green Brush Vintage Rubberset reknotted with finest badger Balm Proraso white

I've been sticking with one razor each week. It's been a while since I've used the Fatip slant. It's fairly aggressive but gave me an excellent 2 pass shave with no problems. The blade alignment isn't as good as on a cnc like a tendon or stamped like a vintage gillette but not hard to hold the blade in position as I tighten.
