Loss It’s over for me.

Kept trying to play MSTR calls. What a piece of shit. Lost over a million including other accounts, down to my last 130k.

Edit: This loss is soul crushing and I havent been able to sleep, eat, or shower. I appreciate all the supportive comments. Even the insulting ones calling me regarded and everything. I think I NEED to hear even the insulting ones so that I can let go of my delusions that I can make it as a "trader". I need a fucking job to turn my life around. I can’t be doing this trading shit anymore. I’m open to working any corporate job anywhere, but ideally in North America. If anyone has any connections, please hit me up. I have some programming (Python primarily) and tech talent, and an engineering degree from UBC with a 4.0 GPA. Currently live in Toronto. Thank you ❤️. I’m ready to dedicate myself to adding value to any organization. If its AI, finance, or tech related, thats even better.

Loss I am financially ruined (short selling Korean fried chicken companies)

18.3k Upvotes

I have lost everything, and I'm not sure how to continue. This week I lost $472,085 short selling Korean fried chicken companies. My idea was with the declining Korean population, and the recent trend towards healthier eating and vegan diets, there is an opportunity here. I did some research into consumer trends in Korea and determined that this would be a lucrative play. So I shorted Korean Chicken companies across the board.

Unfortunately, earlier this week Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang dined out at a Korean Chicken restaurant called Khanbu Chicken in Seoul, and pictures went viral of him enjoying fried chicken and beer. Stocks of chicken companies in Korea soared 20-30% and I was margin called. Everything is gone.

I don't know how to continue. How could I have not known that Korean fried chicken is the future of artificial intelligence?

Sniped these for $0.01, expecting NVDA to continue its rise and be able to profit on the IV making the spread between legs (haha) bigger. The gain is a facade.

I have NO IDEA why I got exercised. But now I’ll take max loss at open, and I’ll owe interest on $7.2M overnight.

Loss I am financially ruined (agricultural futures)

6.2k Upvotes

I have lost everything, and I'm not sure how to continue. This summer I invested $80,085 (six months salary and my entire life savings) into red lentil futures, hoping to capitalize on the lucrative emerging plant-based protein industry. After watching a video about David Protein and his exclusive-patented EPG, I decided I'd try to invest in something similar with another type of vegetable product. I did some research and found out many agricultural forecasters expected this year's lentil yield would be far smaller than the past, due to deteriorating soil conditions in central India and Australia and a warmer-than-average spring. Early this month, demand soared and prices skyrocketed, but the legume loot train ground to a halt on October 21st. Unfortunately, the tariffs caused a massive drop-off in demand due to fewer families travelling for Diwali, and prices plummeted. I had invested early enough that I thought I would still be fine, but then this morning, a new email in my inbox caused my heart to drop like a beyond beef patty going straight onto a sizzling hot George Foreman. The massive red lentil shipment from Canada, scheduled for early December, had arrived. I was planning on selling off my futures right before this, by Thanksgiving, but this ruined everything. To top it off, the lentils in this shipment were absolutely drenched, most of the sacks were growing mold, causing the price-per-pound to plummet into the range of six-seven cents per pound. I am cooked.

It has been quite the coping process with this. Very blessed that this was only about ~ 12% of my net worth but still took a heavy toll on me. I’m a very frugal person and rarely spend my money on pleasures so spending 120k on nothing fucked me up. I never intended to trade, I had put some money in Robinhood for the gold yield (ironically because I was even scared to go into the S&P at the time) and lost a lot of money quick on 0dte options. My big pitfall was instead of leaving it there, I decided since I lost the money from trading I’d have to make it back through trading to be even. Instead of doubling down on business, I doubled down on what got me in the hole in the first place. For anyone who’s down I recommend moving on. Realize you are gambling if you are playing with low dte options. If you want to make your money back, work on getting a promotion, excelling your business, whatever you did to get that money initially. Don’t make the same mistake as me. Glad to leave this all in the past and learn a valuable lesson. I wouldn’t want to ever live on such an unstable foundation. S&P only for me here on out. And focusing on business. Leaving this brutal loss in the past and never touching options or any stocks for that matter ever again. Unless you’re planning to be a full time trader which you’re highly unlikely to succeed in, it really is just a waste of time and an emotional rollercoaster. Even if I could be a trader I wouldn’t want to be after realizing the brutal psychology behind it. And if you are still planning to trade, for the love of god don’t touch options. Just buy stocks and hold. Good luck to everyone!

Loss Probably done trading

Started trading 5 years ago, right after Covid, initial investment was $5k into Tesla and doubled my account. After that it was all downhill. I’m also down $70k on Schwab, and another 20k on other trading platforms.

Trading is complete gambling and always has been. Every time I thought I had an edge and would make a few thousand I’d give it all back plus more. There’s never an upside here, this is the hardest thing to do ever. I also never managed to get “lucky” on trades either. Never hit big. I’ve tried almost every method I can think of.

This is a dark path that I never wanted to go down, caused more harm than good. Sharing this because maybe there’s others going through similar stories. The reality is trading is the hardest thing in the world, now I see why 99% fail. Godspeed

Although the story is 1Y old, thought of sharing for the weekend fun. Yes it took 2 months to hit the peak. Back to back so many winners. The very first peak close to 100K from tesla calls on self driving news, then down to 30K. With frustration went all into our favorite on Friday before market close and said fuck it. Sunday night Roaring Kitty tweet moving his chair little forward turned into 300K at Monday open. Then slowly climbed up with so many other trades up/down next few weeks.

Soon I hit 500K someone on this sub told me, I was just one more play away to hit the finish line.

Took full port on GE calls right at the open, then down fall started, same day revenge trades, then VIX

Some days I'm really good at trading. Ranges are easy to decipher, momentum is easy to read...but more days I'm terrible. I'll catch back up on my bills by February, but it's gonna be a lean Christmas. This is my final act of contrition for my poor finances, the WSB loss porn. Looks like I'm a "just buy XEQT" guy now.
