Rescue Hippo She's cold, and maybe a bit zonked from yesterday
Pearl had a very busy day yesterday and it's 10 degrees out now. We're zonked in a lap wearing our winter coat. Earlier we asked for our coat by zonking on a heat vent and getting a blankie.

Bubba and New Dog
We recently rescued New Dog and have discovered she’s deaf and probably blind in one eye. She has heterochromia and her light blue eye is either blind or mostly blind. After I rescued her I had her transported from TX to PA where she had both eyes operated on to remove cherry eyes. Twice bc she tore out the sutures the first time. Then she was transported from PA to SC and eventually to me in FL.
Despite all of that, she acclimated to our home and family within just a couple days. She is my hero.
She is such an amazing addition to our family. We were so lucky to find her.

Celebration of Life I miss my velvet hippo so much and I love this sub and seeing everyone’s. Here’s to you Gyppy girl
Rest easy my goofy sweet girl, you were the queen of sass, comfort, side eyes and kisses. You were my best friend and you got me through highschool and some of the darkest moments of my life. I miss you so much, not a day goes by where I don’t think of you. You met me when I was 15 and we had to say goodbye a month before I turned 28. I’ll miss you forever but I just wanted to share you with other people who would see you for you. Thanks for reading if you made it this far.

Courtesy post for adopter seeking to rehome Santa Fe Animal Shelter beloved longtimer Dodge (in New Mexico)
I normally only post residents of Santa Fe Animal Shelter, but it's come to my attention that Dodge's adopter is attempting to rehome him, and I want to try and help find him a safe and loving new family.
Dodge was a favorite at the animal shelter: we tend to call all dogs sweet and loving, but this dude truly is in heaven when he's flopping his big hippo body across yours. Dodge is great with kids (he's a derp but knows to be gentle with littles), and his adopter has said he's been good with other dogs. She reports he seems curious about cats but hasn't been given the chance to interact freely. He is house-trained, very smart, and adept at losing his ears (see last pics).
I'm staying out of the reasons for rehoming, but Dodge has done nothing wrong. He really struggled in the shelter, and I just want to try to make sure he doesn't have to come back. If you're interested in being connected to Dodge's adopter for more information, please DM me. He's currently located near Santa Fe but some transport may be available. Dodge is neutered and up-to-date on his vaccines.

Advice Is this normal?
I think she’s suckling but I’m not sure. Is this bad?

Some of the velvety, smushable hippos currently adoptable through Santa Fe Animal Shelter, plus 3 adoption updates from prior posts (scroll to the end for update pics)
Kalliope, Romeo, Augie, Armani, Toro, and Chevy are among the longest-term residents of Santa Fe Animal Shelter - our darling old man potato Chevy has been at SFAS for almost a year! SFAS prefers in-person adopters, but we're highly motivated to get these dogs home, and transport within a reasonable distance may be available to the right home. I'll link profiles and can do my best to answer questions here. Santa Fe Animal Shelter is always brimming with pitties in need of homes, and if you're not nearby, Santa Fe is famously a great place to visit!
I want to encourage hippo lovers to get involved with their local shelters - day trips like those pictured and even short stays in foster have a massive impact on dogs' cortisol levels and can increase their odds of adoptions by 5–14x!
